He was up much too early. Much much too early. The sun was just barely beginning to inch it's way over the horizon, just barely peeking over the black line that stretched on forever. He had tossed and turned, and yet no matter what he did, he couldn't fall back asleep. Finally giving in, the brown buck rolled onto his stomach, folded his legs under and then stood up. He took the time to stretch out each of his limbs, and then tilted his head back and looked up at the sky that was still dark, but slowly turning lighter and brighter.

His legs began to take him somewhere - where? He didn't quite know, but he'd figure it out eventually - and he let them lead him. The first place they took him was his usual scratching post. Giving a little sigh, he started the day off with a good horn-sharpening, by approaching the tree and tilting his head down. He rubbed his horns systematically along the bark, toning his horns down to a more pointy end, making them shiny in the process. Having finished doing so, he straightened up again and glanced around, a strange feeling having come over him, something similar to a beetle crawling up his back. His eyes narrowed and he wondered why there was a shiver running down his spine. Was someone watching him?

What was that noise? Some noise...

Zircon Breeze had been sleeping, curled behind a bunch of trees that had grown particularly close to each other, when a rather alarming noise assaulted her ears. Her nose twitched delicately as she lifted her head to examine her surroundings, her eyes glowing faintly in the shadows cast by her trees.

She could hear a continuous scratching but the noise was coming from a direction she couldn't see. Finally, after a good ten seconds of silent contemplation, Zircon Breeze slowly rose to all fours and pushed her head through the trees, just enough to see across to the other side. She kept her eyes squinted so as not to announce her presence to any possibly hostile Kimeti- though it didn't fully hide her glowing eyes it certainly lessened the effect.

She glanced about, again, and thought she saw a faint, blue glowing... She stood silently, staring at the blue glowing, waiting to see what it was.

The tall buck squinted his own blue eyes when he spotted a slight glimmer of blue off a little ways to his right. After staring at this strange soft glow he dared to look down where he found two brighter bands of blue next to each other. There was definitely someone there. But he figured that should it have been something dangerous it probably would have already jumped him when he wasn't looking. He shrugged, straightened up and opened his eyes wider, figuring that even if it did jump out and attack him, he could handle it, he was feeling up for a good fight.

And so, chest puffed up slightly, head held high, the brown buck strode slowly closer, trying to piece together an entire image for this being that was watching him. When he got within a few strides, he was almost positive it had to be a kimeti, and a pretty one at that... though he would have to say she definitely didn't look like any kimeti he had ever seen before....

In his harsh grumble of a voice, he says, "Well then? Are ya gonna attack or just keep starin' little lady?" He grinned, as at this point he could see that the blue glows had been bands along her legs, and that her eyes were the other source of duller blue, and if he wasn't mistaken, they might even be glaring at him by this point...

Unsure of what to do as the buck approached her, Zircon Breeze began to slink lower to the ground. She tried to remain perfectly still but was, by this time, aware that he could see her and when he spoke to her, calling her "little lady" she rose up, her eyes narrowed in minor irritation.

Carefully, very carefully, Zircon Breeze pushed her way through the shrubbery, ducking her head down to guard her hair from the branches as best she could; She had already been tangled in a bush once in her life and it was not a fun experience.

"I," she began as she lifted her head again once cleared of the wildlife, "am not little." Her tone should have conveyed her irritation but managed to only sound like childish pouting, her voice too feminine and gentle to be harsh.

She paused, examining the Kimeti before her in more detail. "Perhaps you're just big." she- mostly playfully- teased.

He stood still, carefully watching the doe manoeuvre through the bushes that reached out for her hair. He would imagine that getting caught in something like that, with fluffy hair such as hers would be rather annoying, and probably cause some amounts of pain, too! He didn't envy having to take care of a mane like that. It was pretty, there was no doubt of that, but he didn't envy her for it, though he could think of a few does that would.

Her... pout... was adorable, and he couldn't help but grin at her for it. Her voice was so light, so nice to listen too, gentle, he would say. But to her last comment, he only grinned wider and replied in his own gruff tone, "Perhaps that is the case... Yes, I suppose that could be it." And as he said so, he paced back and forth before her, contemplating his next words carefully. He wasn't usually one for lots of chatter, but he could see a delicate situation when he came across one, and he definitely didn't want to cause this one to end anytime soon.

Keeping his head high and an eye on her as he paced, he finally managed to say, "So why were ya hidin' in the bushes? Something scary chasin' after ya?" He winked at her, "I could take care of a simple problem like that." Sure, it wasn't the best of conversation starters, but he wanted her to know that she was safe around him... and this was -as teasing and childish as it was- his way of telling her that.

A single eyebrow arched in response to the teasing banter. "I wasn't hiding," she began, her eyes narrowing in thought before she swung her head to the right, staring off into space as she thought about it. "Actually, your noise interrupted my sleep." she mused.

Her voice held more curiosity than annoyance... And then- "But I could take care of myself." she insisted, sounding somewhat unsure of herself. But when she turned her head back to him her eyes held such conviction, "Besides," a little giggle escaped her throat despite her best efforts to hide it, her serious voice betrayed by only that, "you're so big, anything chasing me could hear you stomping around a league away."

One of his own eyebrows lifted in response to her claiming she was not hiding, but he did not interrupt. Instead, he allowed himself to look her over more thoroughly as she gazed off into the distance, much like he had seen older bucks do when they are thinking about something that was just out of reach, sweetly asking it to come closer so that they could just remember.

She was a very pretty tone of grey, and her hair was so light and fluffy that he swore if he could touch it, it would feel like clouds brushing up against his muzzle.... He shook his head just once to dispel it from such thoughts, and managed to laugh, as warmly and politely as he could manage, when the doe insisted she could take care of herself, but it was very rudely cut off when she prodded at his ability to be quiet.

His head jerked and his ears flicked back against his skull and his face fell, leaving him with a scowl on his face as he muttered, "I can be quiet when I want to be!" Though when his eyes travel back up he remembers who's company he was in, and quickly tries to regain some sort of posture and whatever bit of pride he can manage by adding gruffly, "And who needs to be quiet when the sheer noise and size will scare any beast back to it's cave?" There! That should reassert his place! .... he hoped.

Another giggle trickled from her delicate throat; He sounded so terribly indignant, she simply couldn't help it. She watched the small change occur on his face, her own expression one of being pleasantly amused.

Was he... Trying to show off? The unbidden thought caused Zircon Breeze to reexamine the buck before her, her tail slowly swaying just above the ground as her eyes boldly trailed across his features. He certainly was bigger than her- it was no wonder he made so much noise as to wake her. His striping made her look down at her own forelegs and a small smile crept its way onto her muzzle.

She looked up his forelegs to the glowing scale, staring at the pattern before her eyes skipped his face and went directly to his horns, a curious tilt of the head accompanying her gazing. Eventually her eyes fell back to his face, drawn by the glowing blue that so closely matched her own glow.

Though it had only taken a moment or so of her time, the entire viewing was very obvious. She thought silently, once again gazing off to the side before more gentle words spilled from her muzzle. "I suppose. Perhaps I, too, should return to my cave; you are quite frightening."

Another giggle betrayed her- this one much louder than the previous- and she could no longer keep a ( mostly ) straight face, her smile reaching her eyes as she stared quite intently at the other.

He held his head high, though not so high as to seem haughty, just high enough to seem confident and possessing some pride. When he glanced back down at the doe, he caught her looking him over, and quickly averted his gaze, not wanting to deter her from scanning him. He would let her make her own decisions about what or who he was, and the first step in that was to know one's image. So he stood calmly, and smiled to accompany her giggles, them being rather infectious in such a pleasant tone as they were.

When she suggested that she make her way back to her cave, he figured it would be safe to look at her once more, and he did so, as politely as he could manage. He took a few paces closer, bravely coming to stand by her side, and dipped his head just the slightest so it was closer to her own level and stated. "Well then I should come with you, to keep any lurking demons away from such a pretty face. I don't want to catch any frown-wrinkles on that soft muzzle. That wouldn't be right."

His eyes twinkled and another bout of images crossed his mind, which he quickly fought to shove away, and he nodded forwards, indicating that she should lead the way. "Wouldn't want you to get hurt on your way home. One scary event is definitely enough for one day. Wouldn't be surprised if a delicate doe would need consoling after such a thing." His expression turned into one of mischief, but his eyes told the real story, and that one was soft and caring, wanting nothing more than the company of this damsel in distress.

As if a switch had been hit, the flow of giggles pouring from Zircon Breeze stopped.

She fought to regain her composure and straight face, despite the words coming from the other Kimeti. She appraised him curiously, mild confusion flashing across her eyes as she compared expression on his face to the one in his eyes.

She decided teasing would be fine. It had been fine.

"Then who would protect me from you?" she took a step towards him, moving in the direction he had come from, "I suppose as long as you don't step on me." her voice continued to remain light and nonthreatening despite her previous attempts.

As she passed him, she brushed her fluffy, cloud-like tail across the length of his body.

Once on the other side of the clearing she spoke; "Zircon Breeze." she introduced herself, finally.

Her own conflict of expressions and emotions were completely ignored by the buck, as if he had never even noticed them, in fact, he probably didn't.

He had no initial response to her teasing, and so stays silent to keep his composure. But as she passes him and brushes her tail across his side, he practically melts. His eyes fall shut and he almost sighs audibly, but manages to keep his vocal cords tight, not letting the sound out, merely allowing his jaw to drop. The rest of his body relaxes, his tail dropping and slowing to a stop. And it took him a moment to realise that the cloudy doe had began walking away.

He tuned back into reality just in time to hear her say two words, and it took another moment before he scrambled to catch up to her. Once back in pace, he leaned in to whisper gruffly, "Earthshake. And I promise to be gentle."
