I'm positive everyone has read something or another at one point in their lives (sarcasm definitely does not transfer very well in text). What is the favorite thing you have read? Why? O:

Any other interesting novels/comics/dramas/poetry/etc. you've read?

As for myself, I really have far too many novels I claim as my 'favorite.' Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town was an engaging novel with very interesting plot points. (The main character's parents were a washing machine and mountain, for goodness sake!) Then of course, To Kill a Mockingbird is always a good read for myself. I also highly enjoy Hanna is Not a Boy's Name (the artist lady is such a nice person <3).

I haven't read many great books, but than again I never really looked.

I read by interest, or something I may want to learn rather than sit down and read.

I enjoy reading about World War II, conspiracies, drugs/drug abuse, and fascinating people.
I don't just sit down and read great American novels. Wish I could, but it's too hard.

I did read Dan Browns 'Di Vinci code', though. It was good, raised some good points, but apparently all false information.
It did, however, make me want to read more on religion. That is how I got into reading conspiracy theories. Silly, I know, but got me interested in many other topics.

I know what you mean by American novels...while I do enjoy them (I tend to devour any type of book I can get my hands on), I much prefer European novels. I do not know why but I feel that European fantasy novels (my favorite genre) are much better.

...don't get me started on American history as a subject or within a novel. Anything to do with that puts me to sleep yet I absolutely adore Chinese/Japanese/Russian/English/Irish/Etc. history. XD

I believe all American history is lies. "We found electricity with a string, some cloth, a key, and some lightning".

In my beliefs, American politicians are always trying to prove they can defeat anyone, or anything. I love American people though, I hate all politicians. I've always said "good people don't become politicians".

I've never read any European fantasy. Which books do you recommend?

So much to read 0.o

I can pretty much vouch that a majority of " American People" hate politicians along with you. As for history, I like the really old stuff, the more recent the more boring and political it is, and that goes for all the countries.

Oh wow. So many great books over the years it is really hard to pick one or even 10.

I have fond memories of reading all the Oz books (at first mostly being read to me) at nap time. I used to think creatures like the wheelies were scary. LOL!

The past couple of years I have been more into audio books on CD but I do try to find the unabridged ones when I can. I like being able to listen and drive or work around the house. I've had a lot of good laughs over the Terry Pratchett Discworld series as well as drama / mystery type books like Davinci Code, Brother Odd etc.

I like science fiction, fantasy, scifi/fantasy mix, adventure etc. I like horror books like Stephen King and Koontz. I also enjoy technical manuals if it is a topic I want to learn about. (Yeah, I know, I like stuff all over the board but my Grandmother was a librarian so what ya gonna do? smile

Someone mentioned old books. I find them interesting. I have some really old books from the 1800s and early 1900s. It is interesting to read the differences in vocabulary, social 'norms' and cultural stuff, etc. My grandparents were stationed in occupied Japan shortly after the war so I also have some rather non-traditional (for Americans) kids books like Ping the Duck and Solomon in Kimono. I also enjoy books about how things work, why we say the things we do (word/phrase origin) and other books that make you think about things you usually take for granted.

Are they in English? Are they in a compilation or where do you get them?

I adore myths. X3 I prefer Egyptian and Norse myths but Greek/Roman ones are fun to read as well.

Dean Koontz actually graduated from the university I'm currently attending...first published here too, I believe. One of his former teachers told my mum that he was a terrible English student. Go figure. XD
