It wasn't the first time Tiarnan found himself alone.

Time had seemed to stall for the ivory and gold stallion, hanging frozen in a moment of indecision an frustration, both of which had been foreign concepts to him prior to the tumultuous meeting with his elder sister.

Let's talk to him together; she had said.

We can make him believe us, but not alone; she had said.

Who did Seresai think she was dealing with? Galahad? Like his brother and sister, Tiarnan had certainly gone through the wringer in terms of physical training, but he had always lacked their resolve. Gala was off saving the world for the Spirit's sake, and Seres was one of the Heirs. Who was he?

"I just watch the world watch me. Like a cloud in the sky." He mumbled, readjusting his position beneath his favorite stand of ginkgo trees. It was nearing Summer, but the trees still held a certain magical atmosphere. Perhaps it was the way they moved, their leaves sliding together with a soft hiss as a rogue coastal breeze rolled through. Or perhaps it was just the way the great trunks were aligned, either way, it was a spot Tiarnan visited often. Here he could let his mind wander freely, leaving behind worries about inheritance, and expectations. Here, the crushing personality that was his father could fade away, far far away to the back of beyond. Sometimes, or rather, when he had been younger, he had liked to imagine that the tree would protect him should his father come looking for him. Would they do so now? For all intents and purposes, it seemed that the strict regime inflicted on all of his offspring had yielded two overwhelming success stories. Gala was, despite being primarily a healer, everything Crous could wish for. And Seresai, she was both a born leader and an adept fighter... despite being female.

Hah, despite.

Many a time Crous had lectured him about 'despite.' That despite his temper, he had the makings of a fine soldier. Despite his manners, he would be forgiven. Despite his dreams, he would do his duty.

Despite.

Well, despite the training meant to form both body, mind, and spirit... Tiarnan was still a dreamer. He hadn't known frustration or indecisiveness before adulthood, as he'd always inherently gone with the flow. Now, however, he was expected to do things. Whether it be to fly a patrol pattern (which, admittedly, he liked doing) or to carry out a mission to chase out an unwelcome guest. The constant pressure was more then he could take, it wasn't in his nature to follow the leader...or to stick his neck out when he knew his efforts were just tokens. Yet, he didn't have that inner drive to be somebody either.

He was just content to be...

It was the intuition of being a mother twice over that led Amarinne out beyond the inner sanctum of the Elderwillow camp. She had weaned herself off of the habit of worrying over her children after Seres had so vehemently protested, but that was mostly the worrying that tended to smother the young. She would always worry, after all, she was their mother!

Today, however, she doubted that she would be berated for being a worry-wart. Firstly, her destination was not Seresai; that filly had grown up to be almost the spitting image of her sire! And woe betide the stallion that tried to woo her with the kind of words that Crousader had used on her! Secondly, she had it on excellent authority that her son Tiarnan wouldn't raise his voice to a fly... let alone his own mother.
