Now that he was an adult, Teykali was spending more time alone than ever. He still visited Zeda, his dearest friend and mentor, but was often driven to seek out solitude, driven mad by his own conflicting emotions.

As a stallion, his feelings for his mentor had grown from hero-worship and the innocent love of a child, into something far more complex. He knew that Zeda had a mate that she was dearly devoted to, and he respected Heha. Which made it even more distressing when he found himself a little too interested in the dark mare's sleek body and affectionate crimson eyes.

Distraught, angry at himself, the young stallion isolated himself. He slept more often during the day, and spent the nights wandering the forest, sometimes galloping long distances where the trees grew thin, and sleeping wherever he found himself at daybreak.

As far as he could tell, nobody knew of his inner turmoil. That was the way he wanted it. He was ashamed of himself, frustrated and desperately seeking some sort of sign. Anything that would let him cope with the harsh reality before him. How could he stop loving Zeda?

It was deep into dusk. The sun had set, but the light lingered, a subdued canvas against which a pale moon was beginning to rise. Teykali woke, and wearily stood. He was in strange lands, and he couldn't quite remember the last time he had been anywhere else. He walked to the small brook that cut through the clearing, and began drinking the cool water resignedly.

The day's hold had begun to break into nightfall, the time for hunting was approaching and thus the wilderness called to the sleeping mare to awake. Cursed with nightmares of her aging past Emma J' opened her golden eyes and peered around. She had found a nice collection of shrubs to lay down under the previous morning which hid her from sight, and more importantly the bright sunlight. A yawn that almost sounded like a low growl released from within a deep part of her throat as the brown pelted mare took to her hooves. Ears flicked gently as she listened to the sounds around her. This land was unclaimed as far as she knew and since it held a good supply of food for her liking she half contemplated the thought of taking it as her own. It had been some time since Emma had such a thought but these lands suited her well, enough water and small meat sources to last a while.

As the mare moved leisurely towards a nearby stream she noticed the silhouette of a stallion drinking from it. Eyes narrowing into crisp slits a devilish grin cloaked her face as her ears flattened to her head, the coyote pelt sitting perfectly still on her back.

"What do we have here..."

Emma hissed as she appeared from behind the brush. This stallion reeked of weakness and as arrogant as the mare had become she felt no threat here. Showing herself with the hope of installing fear into the stallion her body simply walked out, swaying delicately as if it were a dance.

Teykali started violently at the sound of the mare's voice, and whirled around. He hadn't seen another soquili in weeks, and had become used to the absolute solitude.

His eyes widened as he saw the pelt that covered her face and back. A Skinwalker?! He had never dreamed that he would meet one face to face, and a thrill of fear bristled against his spine. His mind immediately flew to the lessons Zeda had taught him about defending against such creatures, but... this one was very obviously female. She walked with such a graceful step, and her voice, though full of menace, was noticeably alluring.

He stared at her for a full minute before responding.

"I thought I was alone," he stated somewhat bleakly. It figured that the first soquili he'd see after so long would be a Skinwalker, and a female at that. While his senses rebelled and his flight or fight instincts went into overdrive, he merely stood there. Attacking a female just wasn't right, and running from a fight....well, Teykali was no coward. He recognized the danger of her, but a small part of him welcomed the idea. A little bit of danger might be exactly what he needed.

He stood his ground as she approached, eying her warily.

"Is this territory yours?"

His voice was toneless, as he fought to keep his anxiety and distrust at bay. He didn't want to start a fight if he didn't have to, and if this place was Skinwalker territory, there was no reason for him to linger anyway.

Lowering her golden eyes the mare stood, cold as the night she loved and bared her teeth ever so tastefully. This stallion either was rather bold or knew absolutely nothing...to confront a skinwalker in territory that she most likely knew just a little better than himself, dangerous to say the least. She smirked and replied in a manner that was cool and sly,

"I wouldn't suspect you would have noticed I was here....and yes, I guess you could consider this my territory..I see no others of my kind around."

Emma flicked her ears and briefly took a look around, if there was another skinwalker around she certainly hadn't noticed. The smooth pelted mare took a few steps, rounding the stallion at a closer distance than before to get a better look at him. Nothing to speak of but his multi-toned mane and swirls of different blues took her back a bit. Emma had only seen naturals and the blue was easy on her eyes, for some reason the color change made her think back briefly to a time when she was less of...her true nature. Before she turned, a time where the small village children would paint all sorts of colors and patterns on everything and she would playfully chase them, a time when she was cared for and not feared. A time when she was weak...the mare shook the thoughts out violently as she dug her hoof into the ground in annoyance.

"So then...who are you and why do you cross this land?

Teykali swallowed, and avoided dropping his gaze from the Skinwalker's eyes. The last thing he wanted to do in her territory was appear weak. He shifted his weight slightly as she moved closer and examined him, but resisted the urge to back away as she drew nearer.

Closer, the mare appeared even more graceful and catlike. The pelt she wore was a smooth, rich brown. Teykali shuddered as he realized it had once belonged to a living creature. But beneath it, her body was lithe and flawless. He could almost imagine her without the pelt; an intense beauty with otherworldly grace. When he glanced up to her face again, her amber eyes were cold and calculating. He jolted back to reality.

"My name is Teykali." He hesitated, wondering how to explain his chaotic journey across the land. "I am simply passing through here. To tell the truth, I haven't been paying much attention to where my legs carry me." Despite his best efforts, Teykali's blithe honesty came through. He instantly regretted his explanation, and hoped the mare wouldn't read too much into it. Subterfuge and deceit had never been strong talents of his.
