The day was bright, sun high, air still, no breeze. She willfully crept from the den she shared with her family and snuck away, freedom being her primary goal most days. She hated being cooped up if she was awake, lectures became hard to sit for and she often became a nuisance among the group. It wasn't like her to be away from her sister, but today was special and fun, today was a 'Me' day. Ruse took advantage of the fact that her sister slept so soundly and that Ruse naturally slept nearest the entrance, why she had been allowed she'll neevr understand.

So here she was, free to do whatever she wanted, though who knew for how long, her parents weren't the most strict, but they had their rules, reasonable Ruse figured, but not something she enjoyed. "What to do..." The young leopon pondered out loud, her paws thumping on the ground extra hard as she sunk into her traditional thought pattern of zoning out, stomping, huming and buzzing all at once. It was an unusual sight to witness, her pelt being strange enough and her personality earning an even stranger award. "Maybe a swim?" She offered herself, but shook her head and hung it so she wasn't looking ahead of herself, a bad habit.

Melda had just been passing through when she heard what seemed to be a rather one-sided conversation. She could hear a voice, but that was the odd thing: it was only the one voice that she could make out. Perhaps whoever she was talking to was a little out of ear show. Or... maybe there was a whole bunch of crazy not too far from her. Either way, Melda was curious enough to want to find out for herself. Call her crazy as well, but she ventured towards the source of the sound.

Soon enough, she discovered the small animal talking to herself, relieved to see it was only a cub. Cubs were more easy to forgive in that department. Invisible friends and what not. "Oh, hello there little one," she offered softly, not sure just what she was looking at, "what are you doing all on your own?"

Ruse, not used to being alone jumped nearly a couple feet off the ground at the sudden speech from a lioness now planted in front of her. Her eye's, a bright sun yellow, were wide making the marings beneath seem to shrink. "Uhm, erm, hi! I'm not so little." She said firmly, her tail, which had puffed up at the sudden fright began to unswell and she sat now, her paws hidden by it's wrap around effect. "I'm playing."

She said this as if it was the most obvious thing on the planet. "Can't I play?" She asked, her eye's glued to the lioness, she was simple, but pretty. Pinks and reds with white, a nice mix Ruse had to admit, but the colors were not top thought. "Would you play with me? My sister is still sleeping with my family. My name is Ruse." She nodded at her family sleeping statement, exlpaining basically why she was alone, without really. "What's your name? Then we won't be strangers and i don't ahev to feel liek i'm breaking rules." Her voice was blunt, as she spoke about the most common parent to child rule, never talk to strangers.,

"I didn't say you couldn't play," remarked the lioness thoughtfully, arching an eyebrow the best a lion could, "I was just a little curious, that's all. I don't see a lot of cubs, as not little as you are, around this area." She smiled, sitting down away from the cub just so she didn't scare her anymore than she already had. Watching the cub leap up like that might have been funny to some other lion, but not to her.

She felt terribly guilty.

"Oh?" she hummed at the question, "I don't mind playing with you if your parents won't mind. My name is Melda, it's nice to meet you Ruse!" Children were so innocent- so much easier to deal with than grumpy adults. Particularly male adults. "What kind of game would you like to play? I don't really know that many..." It'd been a long time since she had played any games. The last game she could remember playing was 'get the hell away from the male trying to kidnap you' and that, naturally, had not been the most entertaining game out there.

Her eye's had returned to a normal size, markings becoming more evidnt and with her fur relaxed the feather markings became visible. "Well, have you ever played hide and seek Melly?" The name was teh exact length of teh lioness' name, but Ruse found it more entertaining to produce nicknames and thus sitting there became more interesting. "Or I coudl think of something else, my other favorite is tag." She smiled, tail swaying slowly, teal-blue tip distracting her eye's momentarily at times.

"You can choose, I play all the time and you did say your were out of practice."

She said this with pride, of course it wasn't what Melly had said, but it's what Ruse decided to take into context.

Melda was amused: this cub certainly had no trouble laying things right out in front of her. A very blunt, confident little cub. That would probably help her out a lot later in life. Smiling, she considered her options. Hide and seek would probably be the easiest thing to the both of them. Less trouble if she got caught going easy on her. Running around playing tag would mean not moving as fast to purposefully get caught.

Hiding badly she could blame on her 'out of practice' status.

"Alright, let's play hide and seek then. Why don't I count to ten and you find some place to hide? I won't peek!" She made no comment on her nickname, deciding it wasn't meant to be taken as some kind of insult.

"Alrighty Melly!" Ruse became a devil like cub right then, her voice becoming loudly excited. She wasted no time in leaping at the liones. "you gotta cover you eye's with your paws and lean your face against a tree!" She explained quickly, in case Melly had truly forgotten. "Now I will go and hide, no peeking!" She called as she ran off.

Her legs didn't carry her far before she found the perfect place, it was a large tree that held her brilliantly within the foliage except her tail taht peeked out, she didn't notice that thougha nd was up there in ease without a hassle. her claws left obviosu markers, and her tail, she wans't hidden well, but it was teh thought that counted.

"Oh of course, you're right!" she explained, as though she had needed the lesson. Without skipping a beat, she moved to a tree, moving her paws over her eyes as she faced away from the cub, just as she had been instructed to do. It was nice to see such energy again. Also gave her a good chance to be young again as well.

"One... Two!..." She counted loudly from her position, so the cub would know how much time she had left. This was almost enough to make her feel very excited. Just what she had wanted. "... five... six!" She peeked out from behind her paw, finding the cub had gone off to hide already. Her counting picked up the pace. "... eight nine ten! Here I come!" Pushing up to her feet again, she started to look around, almost instantly noting the tail hanging in a tree. Giggling, she turned her head away. "now where are you hiding? I wonder if you're near these trees somewhere.." she offered loudly.

Ruse giggled profusely, her hiding spot was brilliant! She could never be found, so high up where no one would really look. She listened steadily, honing in with her super hearing, ears flicking about and tail twitching causing smalls rustling noises in the leaves she had decided to stupidly tune out.

"She'll never find me." She spoke in a loud and obvious whisper, though she didn't realize it.

Melda just watched the tree from the corner of her eye, smiling as she moved herself away, looking around as though completely stumped by the other's choice in hiding spot. No need to find her right away. After a little while of searching, though, she decided it was time to "find" her little friend, getting over to the tree and peeking up into the branches.

"I see you up there!" she told the little cub with a toothy smile, "I almost completely missed you! I never would have thought to hide in the trees!" Never would be able to, either, as she would probably be a little too heavy for the trees in this area.

"Eep!" Startled again after having watch Melda wander about for a while, she nearly fell free from her perch, but cauight herself in the knick of time. "I thought you'd never find me! It's time fora drink." Ruse stated as she climbed her way down, eye's carefully on the ground where her bottom faced. She was a steady climber, loved the trees and admired heights, she often wishe dto meet a bird and have it tell her all about the high skies.

"Well you'll be coming right?" Ruse asked, politely offering the new person some water. "You ARRRE my friend now Melly!" The cub smiled brightly and with a swish of her tail began leading the way to the family watering hole.

Melda watched the cub climb down, pretty impressed with how well she seemed to handle herself in trees. It seemed like she was used to them already, where Melda would probably be a complete mess. Not that a tree of the same height would be as much trouble to get down from for her as it would be for a cub like her, however. If she was Ruse's size, she probably would be calling for her mother, unable to get down at that point in time.

Eyeing the tree a moment longer, she turned her gaze only when Ruse asked her to come for a drink. "Thank you," she replied lightly, moving to follow the younger animal, "and I'm glad we're friends!"

It didn't take long for Ruse to lead Melly to the watering hole. "Here she is!" She bellows suddenly, reporting their entracne boldly, her family was full of sound sleepers, if they weren't awake by now they'd be asleep for hours from now. She said not anotehr word as she slipped forward and dipped her head to swallow a good mouthful of the glass like liquid.

Impatient of Melly's pausing to gaze at things she raised her head, water dripping from her maw. "Cmooon Melly, we still have more to plaay!" Ruse smiled wickedly, she was enjoying this, she was still thinknig deeply about what they could play. Perhaps a water game next?

Moving up to the water, Melda cast a long look at her reflection before taking a drink herself, deciding it was clean enough. Even if the water had been murky she would have had a drink from it- what was wrong with a little dirt? So long as it wasn't on her lovely fur, of course. Once she had a couple laps from the water, she raised her head again, looking over at the smaller of the two.

Still so much energy.

"I think we should call it a day," she told the animal she still wasn't sure of actually, "I don't want to make your parents worry if they wake up and find you playing with someone they don't know. And your sister, too. Maybe we can play again some time!"

Ruse sighed softly, another playmate gone, but the promise of playing again stuck in her head before a little sadness could glue itself down. "Alrighty Melly!" She smiled happily, tail waving back and forth and ears pricking forward, teh lioness had been right on que for she swears up and down she codul hear eth beckon of Rana. "It's time for me to go home anyway! I'll see you again?" She asks, eye's pleading happily. She had her sister, her best friend, but other friedns were fun too.

Hearing eth beckon again she didn't wait for reply, instead assumed they'd play again. "Bye Melly!"
