Alone. This was a word Lucius had become quite accustomed to, much to his regret. But there he was, in an empty Noodle shop, with rain pouring outside, reading Romeo and Juliet. The copy was shiny and quite obviosuly new, in perfect condition. Yet he held it with disgust, not wanting to fully hold onto such a worthless print. His original copy of the book was his favorite, but he'd lent it to someone and never got it back. Without that book he'd lose his mind, so he resorted to buying a brand new copy. So much for his weekend.

It was a still night, save for the rain, and a cold one as well. Kae had wandered over to the noodle shop just before it started to rain, and now sat just outside, enjoying the downpour. The tarp that decorated the door now served to ward off the rain, and the young fox looked out into the watery streets, feeling overwhelmed by the power and music he felt. As the cold sunk deeper into his bones, Kae abandoned his sentinel and made his way into the shop. A tinge of sadness as the feeling of peace and awe left him. Upon entering, the feeling still tugging at the edges of his conscious, Kae was surprised to spot Lucius in the confines of the shop, apparently reading. In an effort not to disturb the patched demon, Kae stepped lightly and attempted to sneak past the fox on his way to the counter.

Romeo and Juliet was beginning to lose his interest by now. Lucius trudged through it in the silence, however. Then there was a soft sound, the light and gentle tinkling of the shop door's bells melting into the patter of rain against the window. Lucius didn't take much note of the fact that someone was entering, as he, frankly, didn't care. Yet there seemed to be a following absence of footsteps. His ear swiveled, trying pick out some sort of sound. Eventually he lifted his eyes from his book and caught a glimpse of the culprit. Kae. Lucius frowned a bit, an expression he's gotten used to. "Kae?"
His eyes swept over the red-headed male with curiousity and a bit of outward contempt, without trying to show any emotion at all. Still, Lucius closed his book and stepped towards Kae.

The plush carpet was a blessing for Kae as he attempted to phantom past Lucius. It absorbed his steps. The fox didn't move like a criminal trying to get past a guard, but more of a soft-footed leisurely stroll. Somewhat absorbed in his movements, it was all he could not to start when Lucius addressed him. Calmly enough to mask his reaction, Kae turned to the patched noodle. "Oh," He glanced to the said again, then back. "I was trying not to bother you." He admitted rather abashedly, having always felt the handsome fox was the sort who didn't like to be disturbed. This idea, however, may have just sprouted from Kae's general tendency to want to keep from bothering anyone who looked busy. He had a habit of misjudging, however, and could often be found annoying the thinker who looked bored rather then the person who was actually involved in something and was bored anyway. He did like talking, once he got over feeling uncomfortable, and could be quite companionable when he was feeling up to it. (And when his family wasn't around.) At the moment, Kae was feeling only a little fidgety because Lucius was frowning at him.

Lucius raised an eyebrow displeasingly, eyeing Kae and then at his closed book. "Obviously you're not. Or, if you were, I would return to my book." He gestured to the closed cover, lifting it and dropping it in emphasis. "Which I'm not." He shrugged and moved towards a counter to place the book on it. Leaning against it, he stared at Kae with that same, angry expression he never meant to wear, yet seemd to quite often. Being alone had its toll on him, as well as losing his first "love." Who, for all her knew, was homophobic. He sighed and ran a paw through his hair in exhaustion. Sleep. Just another thing he lacked nowadays.
Lucius watched Kae in his quiet way, examining each feature distinctly. He was about detail, though he thought his own looks were bland and pointless. He flicked his tail around his paws and waited for a reaction from the other male, his expression relaxing a bit more.

Casting a quick glance to the side, a habit he was trying to break, Kae could feel his courage wilting under the other's gaze. He kicked himself mentally and relented, forcing away his jitters and letting his ears perk up again. "Oh good," He voiced, rather glad he hadn't really disturbed the demonic. Kae observed his gestures for a moment. "You look a bit put out, Lucius. Whats on your mind?" The red-haired noodle ventured, side stepping Lucius' gaze and making his way to the counter, sitting down parallel to him. If Lucius was bland, Kae couldn't tell. The red tailed fox adored the other's patchwork pelt and was rather disappointed that his own pelt was so plain a tan.

Lucius rolled his head, stretching his neck out. He shrugged and watched Kae's ears contently, not sure why they interested him so much. They just did. When Kae sat next to him, he wrapped his tail tighter, staring at it harshly. "Nothing," he snapped reflexively. His ears flattened against his skull in defeat and anger. "...Everything. Stupid people, stupid life, stupid love," he spat, not particularly caring what negative things the red-head thought about this statement, as it was the truth. It was exactly what was on his mind.
Lucius flicked one of Kae's ears gently and blankly gazed ahead, with no focus. "Kae, what if you had 30 minutes to live? Like, the world was going explode, or a bomb was going to go off, or something else was going to kill you in 30 minutes. ...What would you do?" This was another little question he'd thought about recently. Lucius trying to figure out what he cares about and what's most important in his head.

Instinctively, Kae laid his ears back, sympathizing and absorbed in his own pains for a moment. He turned away and stared across the room at the half curtained window. Rain was still pouring outside, and the gentle pattern seemed so steady. So steady and so sure and so unlike him. "Half an hour to live..." Kae mused quietly, letting ideas flit through his brain, many of which he'd probably never say aloud. "I don't know." He partially lied. "There are still so many things to do, so many things to see, and so many things I could hardly dare to try." The crimson fox looked up at Lucius. "And all of them are things I'd need time to do." Kae closed his eyes and shook his head, pawing the carpet a bit and looking back up at Lucius. "I don't know." He shrugged a bit. This question meant a lot to him because it made him think. Kae was never spontaneous, and all the things he'd ever want to do would take a lifetime for him to feel complete.

Lucius nodded. "Half an hour." He shrugged and followed the male's gaze. He wasn't sure himself what he'd do in such a situation, since the possibilities were endless. He glanced down, catching Kae's eye and creased his eyebrows intently, focusing on that one look of outward thought. "Hmm." He turned away, his tail tip twitching. "Too bad there wouldn't be time. It's always time gone by or time wasted. I can't find the balance." Lucius stood up and wandered into the kitchen of the shop, grabbing a knife and setting on the counter. He grabbed an apple and hopped onto the counter where he'd set the knife. "Now look." He nodded at Kae in emphasis.
"Take this apple. It's red, plump, and probably very juicy. Say it only has 30 seconds to remain the way it is now. Relatively long for an apple, I'd say. 30, 29, 28..." he continued until he reached 3. "3, 2..." he picked up the knife and chopped the apple in half on '1' with a straight face. "Not much it could do now was there?" In vague reference and exquisite detail, Lucius was playing out his feelings, thoughts, and inner most worries for Kae to see.

Balance. Such a understated and misunderstood word, and quite the curious one. Kae's attention was fully captured now, and he waited as the patched demon spoke. Watching intently, the seraphim was rather perplexed as Lucius brought out the apple. This was turning into a psychological debate, and Kae began to wonder what Lucius was feeling as he completed his demonstration. "Its more like..." The crimson fox paused, for both thought and emphasis. "The question is if the apple should be doing something about it, or enjoying what time it has left before crisis strikes. Hypothetically, of course." Kae's ears perked forward and he lept up onto the stool next to the counter. "You wonder if the apple could our ought to have done something to avoid such a cruel fate. Now if we're saying that it'll happen no matter what," The crimson fox grabbed two more apples and appropriated a knife. "Then the apple that enjoyed its time would die peacefully, but unfulfilled." Kae explained, stabbing the knife in the hypothetical heart and proceeding to halve it. "But the apple that tried, not only could he stand to gain more in success, but even in failure he dies having fought for what he cared for. Or... something." Kae stopped, losing his confidence at the last minute, but staring thoughtfully at the apple before placing it on the counter unharmed.

Lucius watched and listened as Kae rambled on about using time versus not doing anything about your fate. Lucius leaned close to Kae's face with scrutiny at last. He smirked after a few minutes of silence. "Wrong," he whispered, letting his breath flow over the male's face. He leaned away, twirling the knife dangerously. "If it's fate, then it stand to reason that there is no way to avoid it in the first place. Should that apple enjoy its fate, then it died pleasantly. Yet that's not fulfilling? Perhaps that's what it wished to do with its last moments. How are we to judge what cannot be pinpointed without insight,hm?" Once more he pushed his body closer to Kae's face, close enough to kiss him if he leaned enough. He sighed with a grin. "I miss actually wanting to use my head." He reached up and tugged at Kae's hair with his mouth, then released it, returning to his knife and his "dead" apple. "Thanks for that enthralling bit of debate."

"Wrong?" Kae blinked. He wracked his brain for a moment and didn't get the chance to reply before Lucius' face was alarmingly close to his. The seraphim jolted at the gesture and blushed furiously, positively startled. He gasped a breath and refused not to finish his point. "Thats how I see it. If you get your final wish before you die, then theres nothing left for you anyway but to die. If you go down fighting, that means you still have something to fight for. Something lasting, not something so fleeting that you can fulfill it in only a half hour." Kae flicked his ears back, his voice cracking a bit and he bit his lip to control himself. "Thats what I believe, at least." He finished and looked away to the rain in the window.

Lucius blinked as he heard Kae's voice crack. What the-? He observed the red head for a bit and then bent down to his level as a flood of guilt washed over him. "Sorry, I shouldn't have said that. It was wrong and stupid, and it hurt your feelings. You'd think I know to just shut the hell up by now. Yet I don't. I never will. And that's 'cause I have a goddamned opinion that I will go down fighting for!" He snarled and stabbed the knife into the counter. Lucius pulled himself away from Kae, feeling worse than he had when the guilt bore down on his shoulders. "...Why am I so pitiful? I'm just a petty, usless piece of s**t. Who does nothing but screw up everything."

Startled, Kae couldn't help but stare for a moment at Lucius' fit of frustration. He listened and it started to click what was up with this mysterious demonic. "Hey," The seraph interjected quietly, then louder. "HEY." He walked quickly over to the other fox and went up beside him, turning to look at the patchwork demon. "Its not your fault- I didn't mean to- I mean, I was getting worked up over nothing. Its not your fault. Nothing is your fault." Kae shook his head, wiping his face on his sleeve. "Crap, Lucius, whats got you so worked up? You always seem upset about something and I'm always worried about you. I mean, look at you- you're not petty or useless, and you're hardly the type who goes around ******** things up on purpose. What happened to you?" Kae pleaded, concern plastered all over his face.

Lucius growled lowly as Kae spoke. He was on edge but trying not to lash out physically. "Everything's my fault..." He shook his head. "Always." He turned his face away from Kae. If he were to tell him why he was so angry and upset all the time... he'd laugh. It was a good reason to Lucius, but he thought everyone would ridicule him for being a wuss over it. Or worse, they'd do it because he was gay. He remembered Kae admitting that he was gay, too. But, unfortunately, it didn't make Luci want to spill his guts any more than before. "You'll make fun of me, just like everyone else would." He backstepped away from the red-headed male in a slightly submissive fashion.
