...But the Snow Princess Kaguya manga has made me want to break out the propane. Here's why: Himeko and Kakeru are obnoxious Mary Sues, Kakeru moreso because he's an ill girl. (Only male. razz ) A comet that was melted by the heat of the sun would NOT cause a rain of shooting stars. They aren't even the same thing. You don't feed sugar candies to cats, EVER. I don't care if Luna's a special kind of cat; Kakeru should've known better. The earth is 4.5 BILLION years old, not MILLION. Himeko says "Apollo 12 launched during a snowstorm!" No, it RAINED during the launch. Seriously, SNOW ON THE FLORIDA COAST? Epic fail, Takeuchi. The story confirms that NASA is sending people to the moon in the SM-verse, but it never says why they never found (or said they found) the moon palace. EXPLAIN, MANGA, EXPLAIN!!! That said, I think the whole story should go the way of the Kaguya herself and go out in a blaze.

Nope. Twilight was bad enough, but not as bad as The Lover of Princess Kaguya.
The only way it could have possibly been worse is if Usagi whipped out a bigass gun and Sailor Mars punched someone out while screaming, "I AM A MAN!"

BlueRockman Wait, you didn't want to burn Twilight? That'd be a bad idea. Who knows what evil horrors might be released?
Later Anita Blake novels make me want to burn half the characters, though. I think it's the only series I've ever seen where the main character would cheerfully commit suicide or murder if they knew what was going to happen to them by the end of it (or even the middle, for that matter).

I respect your opinion. that's fine if you don't like it. but don't threaten to burn it please :/

kawaiibunny3 I actually love Princess Snow Kaguya's Lover :/ so what if its not that scientifically correct, not like it's real or anything. Stories may depict impossible situations, but they need to be plausible. Sailor Moon is set on Earth. Therefore, it is reasonable to expect that Sailor Moon's world should, for the most part, behave like the Earth we know. It should not snow in Florida, and a brilliant astrophysicist ought to know the difference between a comet and a meteor. Quote: I respect your opinion. that's fine if you don't like it. but don't threaten to burn it please :/ Why do you feel threatened by my expressing that this is the first book that's actually made me want to burn it?

I guess I'm just more willing to forgive a pressed for time manga artist who's lived in Japan all her life and wrote it before google existed to make little mistakes like that, because they're just done to make the story go along smoother. (although, it also goes along with my "Naoko just didn't give a sh**" theory) I'm not really threatened? I just feel like...it's disrespectful to say that on a sailor moon forum where you know people are going to disagree with you. that and I haven't read it in awhile, think the last time was when I was 14? and I also don't pick up on little scientific details like that because I'm not as smart as you I suppose. so I guess I just don't really care about them? I dunno :/ it was initial posting rage though and i'm sorry. .........ya know, I don't even care anymore. burn it if you want. (although if it were me i'd sell it on amazon twisted ) I will say that I questioned why Luna was able to hang on to an airplane wing traveling to Florida for 18 hours XD that was the big "physics? what?" moment for me.

I can handle having people disagreeing with me, and I think people around here know that I like most of Sailor Moon for the most part. As far as I'm aware, enjoying something doesn't mean that you have to adore each and every page/episode of it. Quote: I will say that I questioned why Luna was able to hang on to an airplane wing traveling to Florida for 18 hours XD that was the big "physics? what?" moment for me. I was actually able to shrug that one off with an "eh, she's a magic space cat. If the girls can use their magic sailor powers to travel through space, I guess the cat can stay on a wing."

What bugged me about that story is that they didn't see the Moon Palace when they went to the Moon. It was restored in the first story arc.
I guess Luna can have sugar candies because well, she is a magical alien cat that can take human form, so that didn't bother me too much. And well, Kakeru was kind of a ditz anyway.
I also thought, Kaguya wasn't a normal comet. Shooting stars? Maybe that was caused by the destruction of Kaguya herself, the power she had inside of her or something, I don't know.
My bottom line: Sailor Moon doesn't follow the normal rules of science. It's not a scientific world. Anything can happen there.
The million/billion thing could have been a typo. I'll have to see what it says in the original Japanese version.
Himeko actually did get on my nerves, so I'll agree with you there. She probably made up the whole snowstorm thing because she was desperate for the launch. Either that or she didn't bother to check her facts. Or that was another serious mistranslation.
Now, if you are reading the original Japanese version, okay, then the mistranslation thing doesn't apply. But I would like to see if there are mistranslations and typos that mess with the facts.

Yeah, from what I heard. Tokyo Pop made a lot translation errors when they were translating the manga, so it possible they could have mis translate the whole thing. The only way to find out is to read the original version (Japanese) to see if the information is indeed correct. In any case, since when manga is applied to real life facts or information? Sure you can apply both elements, but its all purely based on fiction plots, characters, and other elements.

HououMinamino What bugged me about that story is that they didn't see the Moon Palace when they went to the Moon. It was restored in the first story arc. Yup. Something like that wouldn't escape attention. Quote: I guess Luna can have sugar candies because well, she is a magical alien cat that can take human form, so that didn't bother me too much. And well, Kakeru was kind of a ditz anyway. Exactly - he's supposed to be such a genius, but he's an absolute ditz. Quote: I also thought, Kaguya wasn't a normal comet. Shooting stars? Maybe that was caused by the destruction of Kaguya herself, the power she had inside of her or something, I don't know. The problem is that Kakeru expected to see shooting stars when the comet supposedly evaporated under the sun's heat. Quote: The million/billion thing could have been a typo. I'm reading the English translation. If you did go and check the original and see if the errors are in there as well, that'd be awesome. smile Pale Melodies In any case, since when manga is applied to real life facts or information? Sure you can apply both elements, but its all purely based on fiction plots, characters, and other elements. As I said earlier, even if one is writing fantasy, one must write it in a plausible manner. If you're writing an urban fantasy, this means that you have to keep the world in your story consistent with the real world for the most part, and in areas where it diverges, give some explanation for it. Most of the divergences in Sailor Moon are covered by the existence of magic and aliens. The problem lies in where divergences from history and how things are run in the real world are given no explanation or justification.

I think the alot of those things that you pointed out could have actually been mistranslated. Instead of 'shooting stars' Kakeru could have been expecting particles from the comet to fall or something like that. Rainstorm or just storm could have mistansalated to snowstorm. There could have been lots of mistransalations like that but I don't think those are such big issues. xP
Considering I haven't read the story I really can't voice my opinion. But considering it's a love story, it would make sense that you would have an 'ill' character.
And Kakeru probably never had a pet before to realize they couldn't eat sweets.
But yeah, the fact that they couldn't find the runes of the Moon Palace does seem like an issue. But it could have been on the otherside of the moon and they might not have noticed it or check that far. But it would have been nice if she explained.

GS Sailor Pretty But yeah, the fact that they couldn't find the runes of the Moon Palace does seem like an issue. But it could have been on the otherside of the moon and they might not have noticed it or check that far. Nope. The manga specifically says the Moon Palace is located in Mare Serenitatis.

well...according to Keroro Gunso/Sgt. Frog, every alien species that makes contact with Earth has the Anti-Barrier technology to hide from whatever pekoponians humans they want.
...Maybe the Moon Kingdom has this technology too now?
