This might not be the most creative of writing, but I like to cook so this thread is here, k? k. This is where we share recipes and s**t. They don't have to be our own, as long as they work, but I'll probably share some of my own once I actually start keeping track of the ingredient quantities. lol
Today I baked some really awesome nut cookies by screwing around with this recipe, which I had tried following last week with sub-par results.
My improvements are as follows:
2 1/3 cups flour (I added a bit more because the cookies seemed to 'melt' the first time I made them) 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 1 cup margarine (easier to work with than butter and better for you) 1/2 cup white sugar 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 eggs 1/2 package peanut butter chips (Chocolate chips work, but I don't like them as much) 1 cup coarsely chopped almonds
I didn't change any of the preparation instructions, but I did lower the oven's temperature to 350 instead of 375 and baked them for 10-12 min because I found the first batch was dark around the edges and soft around the middle. Something that should be noted is that this dough has to be worked a little more than average to get a good viscosity; it should retain the bowl's shape when you stir it with a spoon if you don't want it to expand too much in the oven and end up super-thin.
The recipe also says not to grease the cookie sheet; grease it. If you don't, the chips will stick to the pan and that'll be not only a dent in the bottom of your beautiful cookie, but a pain in the a** to clean.
This recipe makes a LOT of cookies. It took me three batches to use all the dough with two trays, and I had to put them in a casserole dish because they don't fit on a plate. Halve it if you're just baking for 2-3 people.

Butterscotch Brownies
1/4 cup shortening 1 cup packed brown sugar 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1 egg 3/4 cup all-purpose flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt
- Heat oven to 350 degrees - Heat shortening in saucepan over low heat until melted; remove from heat - Mix in brown sugar, vanilla extract, and egg - Stir in remaining ingredients - Spread in greased square pan - Bake about 25 minutes
It makes about 20 brownies, depending on how you cut them Honestly, I don't like to measure when I bake. I eyeball things. If you like Butterscotch, you will LOVE these. I made them for a few things, while I lived in New York.
I love to bake, unfortunately, we don't ever have ingredients, or money. >_<

Heh, I usually eyeball too, it sucks cause they never turn out the same. =( I don't have money for it too often either, but I spent my gaming budget on baking supplies this month because I still have a long way to go on SS. lol
I have all the stuff to make that except shortening. Maybe I will pick some up to try them out. Homemade butterscotch is love.

I WAS supposed to be going to NAIT to do Baking there, but I missed the application deadline.
Awesome face for the topic.
That was the ONLINE application though, I think I have until August to do it. Couldn't either, I didn't have eighty dollars on a credit card and my mom didn't understand that you don't bring it in when you do it online. Handing in the application would pretty much defeat the purpose of applying online.
Anyways, if I can still apply, I'll most likely be doing baking. I'm over qualified. xD
Kinda doesn't use my potential as a writer, well, it doesn't. I love baking though. :/ tl;dr I might be a baker. Which means I'll most likely lurk here, and post some s**t I do.
Also, you gaiz will see pics of things I create if I ever manage to.
