Not cool. Really. It was unprovoked and I didn't think MIA was one to lash out with those sort of opinions. Oh well, lost my respect for her, even if I barely had any to start with.
Really hope Lady Gaga sees this and .. IGNORES it. Fighting it would just give MIA the light she wants.
"What I’ve discovered is that in art, as in music, there’s a lot of truth—and then there’s a lie. The artist is essentially creating his work to make this lie a truth, but he slides it in amongst all the others. The tiny little lie is the moment I live for, my moment. It’s the moment that the audience falls in love." - Lady Gaga
MIA probably didn't do much research on Gaga, judging by all of her comments about her. All she's seen so far is the music and sort of made fun of the Haus of Gaga. Oh well, the ratio of celebs that like/hate Gaga is probably .. 100:1 now.
What do you guys think? I'm not posting this to get Gaga fans pissed, but to keep everyone informed. Give us your two cents! heart

I'm not a big fan of MIA(music wise) but she seems to know her stuff, but she does seem full of herself a bit.
But in her defense,it doesn't feel right to call GaGa a visionary or genius with only two albums (aside from her early work) to date.
Most critics of GaGa are not saying she has no talent, they are saying she has the potential to be the next Madonna or whatever as long as she is progressive. Most people will admit that Lady GaGa has the right stuff to be the next big thing in music. She is just getting too much hype which is partly to blame on her fans.
Thanks to all the fanfailing, people like MIA have to come out and slap some sense into people.
This third album is going to be the final step to either her doom or success. Lady GaGa is working on a very thin line here, her next few moves better be wise ones.
Look at this comment:
I don’t have a problem with Gaga being successful at all, but what really irks me is that people overrate her so much. “She’s a visionary, a genius”. Really? Her songs are catchy, but no “genius” went behind it. I heard that “Telephone” was originally supposed to be a Britney Spears song— if Britney sang that song, would anyone consider it genius? No, they sure as hell wouldn’t. When you point out the banality of Gaga’s lyrics to her fans, they’ll retort with “It’s pop music, what did you expect?”. Yet, when you point out that her music is nothing to marvel at, they’ll say that you don’t “get” her alleged “brilliance”. No, there is no such thing as purely original music today, but the whole point of borrowing from past artists is to turn it into something new & fresh, in a way that people have never heard of before. Without the image, Gaga’s music can’t stand on its own. And Whitney Pastorek, go look up an article on Gaga in New York Magazine. She’s not self-made, she really is a pawn.
You have to admit, he does have a point. Telephone in part, is as bland as any other pop song out there(I could actually picture Ke$ha singing it.) No doubt it is catchy as hell but you can't be truly successful or groundbreaking if that is all you got up your sleeves. That's not saying that GaGa has not produced great songs that truly show her skills: "Bad Romance" "Paparazzi" "Dance In The Dark" "Alejandro" "Speechless" are all amazing hits that truly go beyond the average pop song. Many critics will say it themselves: GaGa is a breathe of fresh air in pop music. But can she keep up that momentum is where people start to doubt her. She may not be progressive as much as we want her to be but she is trying.
To conclude this post, isn't being a derivative of everything before you called...*gasp* Inspiration?

Good points, Sam. To be honest, I agree with the fact that her fans have given her too much hype and unnecessarily high praise, but I also believe that Gaga herself should find different ways to deliver what's upcoming for her.
Before the Telephone video came out, she claimed it as her "masterpiece". I mean .. it's great to try and dig out something deep from a shallow song, but I don't think Telephone was the right song for it at all. All in all, the Telephone vid was entertaining, but I personally believe that it was far from a masterpiece.
On top of that, she's mentioned that her next album is nearly finished and that it would be "the greatest of her career". I think she could sorta just .. tell people that her next album is coming soon, rather than give direct quotes of hype. With a quote like that, how is she going to continue outdoing herself on the next albums? You're right about the third album being a step closer to her doom or success, but I don't believe it's the final step. If it fails, there will be many more people who won't be afraid to speak out like MIA did, but if it's successful .. who knows.
The third album's gotta be diverse. I have a feeling it'll have more songs like Telephone ( just to get up and dance ), but I hope she'll create some songs that people can't picture Ke$ha singing.
*sigh* I guess that's the curse of all this shock factor. Fans come good and bad. But I'm a fan too, so I'll always have an eensy weensy tad bit of bias to me for defending Gaga. Haha.
After all, let's not forget what a fan is: an enthusiastic devotee, follower, or admirer of a sport, pastime, celebrity, etc.
Just wish some fans would associate enthusiasm with reason.

True, if she can incorporate more of her style from Red & Blue, this might be her best album yet.
Every artists has those defining moments in their career that could make them or break them and as GaGa's fans we have to go through the motions as well. So I say we raise a glass of juice in hope for the success or our dear GaGaloo's third album.

Lol M.I.A Talking s**t again "Lady Gaga is someone who lives completely within [the industry]. That’s what you can get if you say ‘yes.’ I would have those outfits on and my hair would look like that and those are the songs I would sing. Everybody else on my label’s budget would get cut in order for my Grammy performance with Elton John to be banging.”

Miss Fiendette Forgive me if I sound like I live under a rock for asking this, but who the ******** is MIA? neutral Ever heard of the Paper Planes song? You can look it up if you want .. It's by M.I.A and it was the song that basically made her famous. I actually liked it and thought it was different and catchy. Then she started saying all this stupid $hit about Gaga and I always get a disgusting taste in my mouth when I hear Paper Planes now.

After looking up that, I'm very skeptical about MIA and how she's claiming Lady Gaga is a mimic after how she takes a song from another artist and makes it her claim to fame.

Well, i want to remind everyone that it's not just her music that you have to look at when you call her a 'Genius'. Look at what she stands for. She's the only artist that has stood up for all the 'freaks' out there. Sure, a bunch of artists say "be yourself" but do they really show it? Maybe they are being themselves. but when some people are being themselves their ideas and passions are way diffrent than everyone else's and they get shot down for being the real them. making them insecure, feeling alone and not loved. Lady Gaga was the one that showed them that they can be themselves and be sucessful and happy; that they don't have to worry about being the 'freak' that no one likes because they're so diffrent.
Now music-wise, sure telephone wasn't her best song ever. but does anyone know what the real pop music is? it's basicly mindless nonsense repeated over and over with a catchy beat. Which is what everyone else was saying. 'Telephone' IS pop music. Now, she brings in alot of art into her music videos. like the telephone music video, alejandro music video and bad romance music video. Which she's trying to put the art back into music.
Before Lady Gaga everyone's music videos were just plain and simple. after gaga, everyone changed. Just look at 'Can't be tamed' or 'California Gurls' music videos. the artists have changed their music videos so much since gaga came around.
So i believe that she's changing the music industry for the better and that she is a genius and she does deserve every singlel word people say about her.

Agree with this whole post, especially the bolded font. When Lady Gaga was in her beginning days of being a mainstream artist, she got s**t from Christina Aguilera who accused Gaga of being an imitation of her. Today in Borders I see Christina Aguilera on the cover of a magazine in full-blown avant-garde theatricality, which pretty much along with her new album shows that copying Lady Gaga is what she's doing to stay afloat in the pop charts.

What really bothers me is that she pretty much says Lady Gaga is ugly. She said something like "Plus Madonna was pretty, Pop stars are supposed to be pretty." And frankly I don't really think M.I.A or Madonna are very pretty, while Mz Gaga is beutifullll ]

Gaga said she wasn't interested in looking like a perfect model anyway, she has more important things to worry about. So let them call her ugly all they want, doesn't bother her, she feels good in her own skin.
