Vatsa was finally almost back at his home, the place where he'd grown up. It seemed as if he'd been travelling almost non-stop since he was an age to do so, and it would be good to be home and stop moving for at least a few days. Maybe he would see his parents, or even his siblings? He had no idea where they were, or what they up to, they could have had children of their own for all he knew!
His surroundings grew more and more familiar, tugging him down memory lane as he walked, the scents and sights making him feel like a little colt again. He supposed it would have been a grander homecoming if he was showing a mare his home, but it was good to be back at any rate. He looked around, and called out everyone's name in turn, hoping to get an answer.

Vohamanah had taken a small flight around the little valley area he lived his whole life in. He was landing as he spied the shape of someone riding into the area. Oh, but maybe not riding? Walking? He flew faster down to the ground to go see.
He wasn't just a little excited to see his son, nor was he slow to show it. He was just as open and expressive as he always was. He stood a way back. He hadn't remembered his son being so tall. He felt his own self stand just a tad taller as his heart warmed with pride.
"Well, if my eyes are true as my heart is, I spy my son arriving." He called out. He hoped Vatsa could hear him. He then began to think about the rest of his family. He hadn't seen or heard from Quiandiah lately either. He then thought wouldn't it be great to have a little get together. Maybe with Vatsa returning, this could happen.

Vatsa was sure he'd had something as he strolled along, but hadn't quite thought to look skyward, until he heard what sounded like someone speaking from above him. He stopped, tilted his upwards and grinned as he saw his fluttering father.
'Hello father.' he called, craning his head to see him, hoping that Vohamanah would land so that they could talk properly. It felt like a very long time since he'd seen his father, and indeed he was sure a great deal of time had passed.

And, of course, Vohamanah would do just that. He circled down a bit and stepped onto the finally covered in spring grass earth. He nodded at his son. "Well, it certainly has been a little while. You have your mother's wandering spirit, but there's nothing wrong with that. Anything exciting? Good stories to tell of your journeys?"
He beamed overlooking his son and seeing so much of himself in Vatsa. The more he looked, he realized he also saw so much of his sister and his father in him. He felt such a great deal of thankfulness for his children. What greater honor were there in life than to bestow one's eyes on the fruit of their loins. To see them look back at their father with adoration.

Did that mean his mother wasn't here? He frowned slightly at that, but his father wasn't a second prize and he was just as happy to speak with him, it would be easier after all!
'Well, I'll always wander home eventually, can't get rid of me that easily Father.' he joked, grinning at Vohamanah.
'Exciting? I'm not sure about that. Interesting. There was a mare..and well, it didn't work out.' Vatsa tried to sound offhand about it, but he still was a little hurt by the loss of what might have been a lovely relationship.
'Still, plenty more lovely maidens out there.' he added, trying to sound like his heart hadn't been touched, affecting a roguish air.

Vohamanah nodded his head. He smiled at his son. He had immediate appreciation that his son was being so positive. He really admired the optimistic attempts he was making. Vohamanah tried to understand about dating; though Vohamanah himself didn't have vast amounts of experience. He had met lots of fillies as a child. As an adult, he had no interest in ladies till he met his mate. He was immediately taken with her.
Still, Vohamanah didn't wanna see his son hurt. "Well, are you sure the one you were interested in really won't work out?"
Then he chewed on a piece of grass for a moment. He stretched his wings as he contemplated the wisdom of the situation. Well, he thought to himself that wisdom didn't seem quite so important in a matter of the heart.
"I think you're in the right frame of mind. I sometimes hear two legger tell her friends. 'if you love something, let it go. if it comes back to you, it was meant to be. If not, it wasn't ever meant to be yours to begin with.' Well.. or something like that. You definitely wanna spend the rest of your life with a mare who is without a doubt wants to spend hers with you. Would be a shame to find a girl with a wandering eye."
Did that sound like good fatherly advice? He hadn't tried giving advice before. Did it at least sound encouraging? He sure hoped it would.

'I'm sure..' Vatsa replied, in a tone that suggested any further prying would be rebuffed. He loved his father and didn't want to quarrel or be cross with him so he hoped that Vohamanah would take the hint.
'Wandering eye or wandering hooves?' he said with a trace of irony in his voice. He knew exactly what his mother was like, and only hoped that she would return soon..or had returned and just wasn't around at that moment.

Vohamanah in all his optimism had not meant his small comment in regards to his mate, at least consciously. The realization of the 'wandering hooves' remark made him wince. His eyes looked somewhat pained as due to the absense of not having seen his mate for a while.
Then, the fluttercorn held his face sternly and looked up at his son. "A wandering eye just means a female who might not be faithful. Your mother may disappear and go off to do her own thing from time to time, but I have no doubt in her fidelity. Sohalia is not the type to just go haphazardly have a fling with some random stallion."
Then, he knew in his heart that he could hardly fault his children for perhaps not having the faith he did. He then deeply wondered if his mother's absence had a lingering and farther reaching effect on Vatsa than he knew.
