User Image "Hnnn-hunn-hun-hnn-hnn-nehnnnnnnnnnnnn~"

Dark paws picked silently through the underbrush, but for what they lacked in noise, she made up for with the odd sounds that slipped from her maw. She was humming snatches of a song she vaguely remembered from her youth. It was something from the campfires of man, where she guarded them and begged for scraps. How long ago that seemed, only about a year or so ago, when her life had been the easy one of a massive dog.

The easy times were long over, yet sometimes she felt as though at any moment she would be back there, warming her dark pelt by the fire.

Truth be told, the thick, large bodied female had not been in comfortable captivity for some time. Her final year had been spent fighting for her life and scraps of food, though much of that had been blocked from her mind. Perhaps it was a defense mechanism. Either way, she functioned better if she didn't recall the starving and the tearing and the fighting and the blood. Nope, she was quite content wandering in blissful ignorance to her own past. She would remain doing so as long as she possibly could and when she felt those unpleasant thoughts and memories sneaking into her mind, she seemed to blank for a time, only a span of a few moments, and seemed rather cheerful afterwards.

That time was over. Nothing could hurt her, so long as she kept her wits about her and kept her belly full of meat.

Speaking of which, game certainly was hard to come by when one was alone. Fortunately, she managed to survive off of small game through the winter. It was enough to keep her going and she was content...

"Hnnn-hnhnhn-nehnnnnnnnnnn~"

Albeit a little lonely.

Regardless if others found her queer or not, she felt the distinct urge to find others like herself. Other wolves who would look past her strange origins.

Hell, at this point she'd settle for a few words with some mangy mutts, if it meant some sort of companionship. Little did she know she was about to embark on one of the greatest adventures of her life... Finding a home and a pack to run with.

Penthesilea was busy checking the border of her packs territory once more. She enjoyed these small jobs even though they could easily be preformed by any of her warriors. It was good for an Alpha to know their pack territory and patrol it just as often as the other pack members did - even better in fact. Padding through the dense forest her eyes and ears open to any sights and sounds.

She paused in midstep as she heard an odd sound. Listening carefully to the sound Penthesliea continued forward once more heading in the direction of the odd humming. Her feathers bobbed lighted as she padded at a semi-fast pace, only slowing down once she caught sight of the other wolf.

Oh dear, she was trespassing, wasn't she?

She hadn't noticed, not at first. Usually she caught these things and skirted around the borders. For a moment she wondered where that dastardly magpie had gotten to, the one that usually followed her, despite her attempts to ward it off.

Usually he disappeared when she came to another pack territory. Perhaps she should have realized he was absent. At least he was useful for something, when she remembered to think of him.

But instead of fleeing or even submitting in a submissive posture, which would possibly spare her some grief, she grinned broadly and her tail began to wag. This could either go well, or she would be sent packing. Either way, she was sure of her own ability to take care of herself if things went sour.

Whatever snatches of song she had been humming were silenced by her cheerful greeting.

"Hello there, sister~" Female, from the scent that drifted towards her, on the wind. She had feathers... She liked feathers. In fact, that was what she now called the crow that she seemed to have befriended. Feathers were nice. Hopefully the one wearing them would be nice enough.

Penthesilea was taken aback by the other wolf calling her sister. While she was used to such a thing within her pack it was clear to her that this wolf was not from Antianeira. In fact she had never seen her before, and at a closer look she had an odd appearance to her. Stepping out to clearly show herself to the other Penthesilea took a moment to more closely inspect the dark wolf with her odd yellow and red markings. Those gold things in her ears were certainly unusual as well.

"Greetings." Penthesilea said after a long pause. "You are entering Antianeira lands, sister." It was a mix of a warning and informing the other of where she was. Perhaps she was just another wolf wandering through, but for now Penthesilea decided to be cautious, though she knew if it came to a fight she would be the victorious one.

Ohohoh~

She was unhappy.

Or at least she sounded unhappy to the darker furred female, who had expected such a reception, anyways. It was what she almost always received and her piercing and collar spoke loudly of man's hands having touched her in the past.

Her brightly marked tail slowed, but still flicked from side to side as she gazed upon the other, eyes only slightly leaving her face and resting on her shoulder.

"Lands-lands-lands, a pity. I don't mean to trespass, yet I always seem to be trespassing. Forgive me, if you so will, please? Antianeira, interesting name. Very interesting name."

This one spoke oddly, but at least she seemed apologetic over coming towards the packs borders. And after all most first offenses could be forgive with a sincere apology, especially when it was from a female. "You are forgiven." She said with a small simple nod of the head." Then a smile crossed her maw. "A very interesting name for a very interesting pack. Antianeira is quite unique."

Eyes moved over the other ones more taking in that mane of flame colored fur, the collar and the piercings. "Where did you get those from?" Penthesilea asked motioned with her muzzle towards the collar and piercings. It was not uncommon for a high ranking wolf from her pack to be decorated in a variety of things - some of those things being stolen from human camps, but she had not run into any wolves with piercings before. "You are not from around here are you?"

"Antianeira... What is it's meaning? What type of pack?" Her voice carried immense curiosity and her emerald eyes flashed as she tilted her head to one side.

"And~ And~ I come not from here. Far away, yes. Far, long these paws have walked and are quite tired. Man gave me these and they hurt, yes they did. Not as bad as other things, but they did."

She leaned back, settling on her haunches as she studied the pale wolfess. The bright, shiny bits and the feathers interested her and she was certain her little magpie friend would have a keen eye for her, even if he never approached outright. In fact, she thought she heard a rustle high amongst the trees. Perhaps it was him.

But it was easy to see that the dark furred creature seemed lost and out of place.

"Antianeria has no meaning behind the word. But we are a sisterhood of strong warriors who believe that we can live full lives without males providing for us. Males do exist in our pack but are our slaves and nothing more." Each time she met a new wolf it was becoming easier and easier to explain her pack. At first she had always been hesitant because so many females had been male dominated for so long that they may find the idea of a pack like this frightening. But now she never held anything back - after all the Antianeira pack was based on truth, so even if it hurt to say something it must be said.

Her eyes roamed over the piercings and collar that the other wore again. "Were you with man long?" Some of the things that adorned her sisters and herself had been stolen from human camps, so perhaps having one who had lived among them would be beneficial - but she was getting ahead of herself. For now she would focus on answering whatever questions this female had and then place an offer to join the pack should she show an interest.

"Sisterhood~ Sisterhood~ Sounds very interesting, no?"

She tilted her head slightly as she listened, green eyes flashing with confused curiosity. She knew little of packs as it was, but male chauvinistic ways were not completely unknown to her. Often, breedings had been forced. Her only litter had not been a healthy one, either, and though she did not speak of it, her mind wore the scars.

She grinned broadly, in a wolfish kind of way, and her tail wagged slightly.

"Many-many-many moons, my dear sister~ I wear the mark, yes? The mark on the neck." She flopped back on her haunches and scratched idly at her collar with her hind paw.

Penthesilea allowed herself to take another look at the collar around the others neck. It was quite simple compared to her own, but then again her collar was a mark of her rank as were her other decorations. It was during her inspection of the collar again that she realized she had not yet introduced herself. Sitting up tall Penthesilea was about to correct that. "Allow me to introduce myself. I am Penthesilea, Queen of Antianeira. And what is your name sister?"

Well now that that was out of the way she could return to what she had mean to say. "As you can see I wear similar marks, most often these have been stolen from the humans whenever our sisters had to opportunity to do so. They indicate ones rank in the pack, and sometimes ones property." The property she referred to was often males claimed by females as their favored, so they would be marked to tell all others in the pack of who they belonged to.

"This one, this one, she is Beelu." She seemed unconcerned as Pehthesilea studied her, absorbing what her own trinkets offered in the ways of explaining her origins. Her collar, too, was a mark of her position in the society from hence she came, but her status was no where near as glorious amongst men. To them she had been nothing more than a common mongrel. Larger than most, vicious when need be, but still only a "dog."

"A queen, then? A queen? It sounds like a man-word, that. A very high word. Very, what is the word, prestigious~ Good to meet you, highness." Her tail thumped behind her as she took in what information was absorbed, making an attempt to remember the names the other gave her. They were long and strange to her tongue, but Queen she could remember.

"Property, the Queen says?" She tilted her head slightly, sure she understood, yet asking all the same because it felt like she ought to, merely to keep talking.
PostPosted: Mon Jun 21, 2010 6:51 pm

Beelu was an interesting name, but then again Penthesilea had an interesting name as well. Either way she was quite interested in getting this female to join her pack, it would be handy to have a wolf or two that were familiar with human camps to help acquire items to decorate the sisters with.

She allowed a smile to cross her maw at the other. "It is indeed a very high word. My pack adopted that title many years ago as a unique way of stating who was Alpha. And it had been a tradition ever since." A small laugh escaped her at Beelu's next question. "Our males are often marked by the females who choose them for breeding. And while that does make him a mate of a sister, should another sister find his desirable then she can place a challenge to his current owner for rights to mate with him. Should a male be won by the challenging female he becomes her property so to speak and will often be given new marks."

The Queen fell silent for a few moments, pondering something before speaking again. "Our pack could use a wolf like yourself, one who is familiarized with the humans and their ways. For you see most of the marks we wear are often stolen from human camps or in the surrounding areas as they sometimes leave things lying about. A place is the pack could be given to you easily if you would be willing to help us acquire such things. And even if you do not wish to do that, I do think Antianeira would be a good place for you to at least spend some time."

Curiosity practically shined off of Beelu's features as she listened, unfamiliar with customs of any pack, particularly this odd one. They take a human word. A high human word. And the females fight over the males?

It felt backwards, in a way, yet it also felt thrilling and right.

"She can do it~ Steal from the men, she means." She bobbed her head, locks of her main flouncing against her forehead as she did so. She would do it and she could do it, she would happily steal from her former captors. She was excited, now, seen in her wagging tail, and she had a purpose for the first time since her escape. There was something to look forward to.

"Beelu wants to join~ Join the interesting pack, the pack with the man-name-leader. She can steal amongst other things! If you will have her, she will join you."

The curiosity and excitement of the other was not missed by Penthesilea. It would take some time to get used to the way in which Beelu talked, but the Queen was certain that she had made the right choice in offering a place in her pack to this wolf. Besides having a good number of different and yet like minded individuals was what made the pack what it was. Smiling the Queen nodded slightly. "I am glad to hear that. There will be more to discuss regarding your training and other pack related activities but we can do so later." Standing Penthesilea stretched her muscles and gave her fur a shake, causing her feathers to dance lightly before settling back into their place again. "It is a ways to the dens, come let us begin the journey. And welcome sister to Antianeira." Turning she began to lead Beelu towards her new home.

Beelu's tail wagged as the Queen stood and spoke, shaking out her fur. For a moment, she admired the feathers and headdress that clad the tan wolf's frame. She was lovely and if there was ever a wolf, even one to claim the man-title of Queen, she decided on the spot that Penthesilea was one who deserved it. The once captive, yet now free, dark pelted wolfess nodded eagerly as she listened.

"This one thanks you, yess'um! For letting her come, she does~ She will not disappoint and will work hard. Eager to see her new home and to meet her new family." She followed quickly, doing her best to act as any new wolf would, or at least how she thought one would behave. She kept her head slightly down, and her tail as well, as she trotted in the direction of the pack's dens.
