 Sedation trotted through the woods, looking for Mother. Mother...who she resembled, slightly. Slightly, in the purple-and-blue aspect of things. But the ribbing on her sides and the bright orange pelt was her Daddy's. And she wasn't happy with Daddy. He'd left them alone... Her ears flattened back as she paused, thinking about him, then shoving him from her mind. Screw Daddy. Screw him! She stamped a foot and kept moving, tail wagging high over her back, a dominant little flag. She was growing up and therefore, decided that she deserved to flaunt her stuff.

Kai had started to grow quite comfortable with his new temporary home. He was far from settling in the area, to be sure -- he doubted he would ever settle anywhere, truly -- but the river was nice, and he was growing more and more comfortable with the wilderness than the beach he was accustomed to.
He still, however, had not gotten the hang of hunting land animals, and he was thoroughly disappointed with himself. Sure, he could sustain himself just fine on fish for the rest of his life, he supposed...but what if he ever decided to leave the riverbank? And besides, it seemed prudent to forestall any future humiliation if another discovered that he was just an ignorant once-prince....
And so, the wolf had decided to use this lovely afternoon as an opportunity to hone his skill.
He must have looked fairly ridiculous, his brilliant blue and gold fur shining in the sun, his body crouched low to the earth and eyes focused on the rabbit hole. He had waited there for what seemed like an eternity, poised and ready for the occupant should it ever come to ground.....but he had, perhaps, neglected to realize that with the wind at his back, the rabbit was entirely unlikely to pop out into the waiting jaws of death.
Kai would probably be here awhile, at this rate.

Where could Mother have gotten off to? Sometimes it felt to Dae that Xanax was the puppy and Sedation the mother the way Xannie acted. Dae's ear flicked nonchalantly as she padded along, not afraid even if the day was drawing to a close and she had no idea where she was. She sighed, a little put off, and padded right past a still-bodied blue wolf. Seeing him her eyes brightened, tail wagging. Who was this guy? "Why're ya playin' statue?" She was nosy, of course. As if it was her business.

Kai jerked, practically jumping out of his skin; he hadn't heard the pup approach at all, and her sudden words nearly caused a heart attack.
This, he thought, was probably why he was not much of a hunter. And also why he would likely be murdered in his sleep one of these nights if he did not learn properly how to be a real loner.
Ah well...he had lucked out, it seemed, that he was approached merely by a child, and he swept his eyes over to her, steadying himself and attempting to lower his pulse to a more reasonable rate. "Oh, hello," he said, and his voice was as easy-going as always. Something flickered in his eyes when he looked at her, a glimmer of recognition; she had such a unique, vibrant pelt, it reminded him of someone..."I'm waiting for the rabbit."

Dae blinked at him, head tilted to one side as she plopped her rear on the ground and wagged her tail. Waiting...for a rabbit? Had she been human, she would've been standing splay-legged with her hands on her hips, looking contemptuous. "Waiting for a rabbit. That's stupid. I mean, I'm just a kid but Mom's shown me how to hunt. Are you stupid?" Her words were thick, quiet and rather blunt. One eyebrow raised at him, waiting for an answer. "Sorry."

Yes...two things occurred to him at precisely that moment. One, that he needed to n** this hunting thing in the bud before it got any further out of hand. And two, that she did remind him forcibly of another purple femme he had met not so far from here, and he wasn't entirely sure that was a pleasant comparison.
But, it didn't matter. Kai had long been accustomed to pups and, for the most part, generally preferred their company to many adults -- pups tended to be honest, if not a little blunt, and that was always a breath of fresh air for someone who was used to being worshipped for nothing more than being born. "Oh yeah?" he asked, and there was gentleness in his eyes and playfulness in his voice. "But do you know how to fish?"

Sedation was a little surprised at his easy-going behavior. She'd just snapped at him -- she -knew- she was a know it all, she knew she had a superiority complex -- yet he didn't seem to mind her... She frowned and watched him, tail stilling its wag. "Fish?" Her nose wrinkled. "Fish stink. Why would I wanna know howta fish? Why...is that how you feed yourself, Mr. I-Can't-Hunt-Rabbits?" This time she popped up onto her paws, circling him. Her eyes glittered with an ornery sparkle and she smiled, showing him she was teasing. "I'm Sedation. I'm looking for my mother...but I suppose it can wait. She won't get into too much trouble without me, right?" A small smirk.

His brow furrowed; he hoped he wouldn't get himself into trouble when the mother found the two of him here -- knowing his luck. "Where I come from, everybody eats fish," he said, exaggerating only slightly. "But I'm sure you are the rabbit-catching expert, Miss Sedation, so you should show me how it's done." He nodded, eyes still glimmering -- and the sad part is, he was only partly joking. "My name is Kai, by the way. And if you'd like, after you show me the right way to catch this rabbit, I'll help you look for your mom."

Xanax wouldn't care, probably, that she was hanging out with an adult male. This guy didn't -seem- like a stalker-type anyways... Dae was lucky that her mom was pretty carefree. It let her get away with plenty that she wouldn't normally get away with if she had a mother that was more stern. She grinned at him, tail curled high over her back. "Okay. Why not?" She'd never actually caught a rabbit -- only helped trail it. But how hard could it be? She was the great Sedation! Putting her nose in the air, she sniffed, then nodded to him, taking off into the woods. For a puppy, her pawsteps were unusually quiet.

He followed after her on the very tips of his toes, moving as quietly as he could manage. He was lucky they seemed to be isolated, because the scene was ridiculous -- this pair of vibrantly-colored wolves creeping through the forest in search of a hare. But, well, if she could teach him something....so be it.

Sedation slowed, dropping her nose to the earth and breathing. Close... They were close. Her head jerked up as she saw the plump hare, complete with spring coat, only yards away. She nodded again, paw lifting to point in that direction, her tail still high but nolonger wagging. Slowly she got into a crouch and crept forwards. The rabbit was looking in the other direction and the wind blew their scent away from it. With a smirk on her lips, Sedation pounced. Of course, she pounced expecting her body to go farther than it did and she landed inches short as the rabbit jolted forwards. "GET IT!" She gave a war cry and galloped after with wild abandon.

Kai bolted after the rabbit, nearly tripping over the shorter-legged pup in his attempt to catch up with the rabbit. He neared it and pounced, paws outstretched, more like a cat than a wolf, and hoped very dearly that he would manage to catch hold of it rather than make an utter fool of himself.
