Ch 1 From on the streets

“Ok Ok OK. One more game c’mon.” Reg urged her over tired chum.

“Come on Reg, its like 2 in the morning, don’t you think we should get some sleep?” Alex wined and wiped her baggy eyes. “Stop being such a wimp, c’mon, one more game.” ‘Your just being winy because I have beaten you out at poker the last 5 games in a row’ Reg snickered to her self. “No means no chicka, I’m tired.”Alix sighed. ‘She’s so winy’ “FINE, fine, be boring, go to sleep, I see how it is” she sighed heavily. After that, Alex turned out the flash light and they both snuggled down for the night.

‘Alex and I live in this abandoned warehouse off of main street. It has a few rats, and its really draftee, but hey, better then living in a box out in the rain some where right?’ Reg thought to her self as she lie waiting to fall asleep.

A few hours passed ‘I don’t sleep much, I rarely sleep much. A few winks here and there is really all I need to function’ She sighed as she lie awake. She glanced at the open window beside where she lie. ‘…The dawns braking…it looks pretty damn good from here’.

“Alex, hey Alex, waake uuup.” ‘I love bothering her so early in the morning, she’s one of those people who needs like, 13 hours of sleep or they are completely useless’.Reg laughed to her self as she shook her woozy friend. “Rhmmm…its to early, the suns not even all the way up yet.” She said, turning over and grumbling a bit. “I know, but I’m hungry, c’mon, lets go get somtin’ to eat ” ‘God she’s so lazy.’ “Just a few more minuets…ive only had a few hours sleep, thanks to some one who will remain name less.” She mumbled and buried her head in her arm.

‘Ok, so I guess I should tell you a little about my self, there isn’t really much to tell. I’m a 15 year old, female, of course, and ive lived on the street my whole life. Hey, don’t go feeling sorry for me, its great, really. No rules, no one to tell you what to do, total and complete freedom. Ah, freedom, something I couldn’t live with out. I’m 5’4”, Caucasian, violet eyes, and ive got short black hair. Alex? Not really sure about her past, she doesn’t really like to talk about it, and I’m not one to push it. What’s her business is her business, that’s my rule. She’s taller then me, about 6f, which is so unfair because it makes her look so much more intimidating then me, but she’s such a wimp! Any way she’s a tall, blue eyed, Caucasian biznech’ with hazel hair.’

After a lot of effort, Reg managed to get Alex out of bed, and they wandered out in to the still empty streets of their busy metropolis. The early morning sun light still dim over the horizon, well, if you could see the horizon over the skyscrapers, that is. It casted small shadows along their path.

They decided to pool what little money they have, and spring for a few bagels . Reg handed Alex the money. “You get em’, I don’t want to. Your better with people then I am.” “Why do I have to do it? I always do it.” She asked, irritated so. “Because when ever I do it, they always watch me closely, thinking I’m gonna’ steel something, and I don’t feel like being glared at right now.” “Fine fine, I’ll do it, as usual.” She sighed, she often did that.

The two girls got their bagels and then searched for some where to sit. They found a bench and Reg gobbled hers down quickly, while Alex ate hers slowly, savouring it like a last meal.

“Ah, that was a good breakfast…” ‘God I love bagels.’ Reg yawned, rubbing her belly. “Yes it was, but it looks like we’re both out of money, we’re going to have to make some soon or we’ll be in trouble.” Alex sighed again. ‘She’s such a worry wart some times’. “Don’t worry, we’ll get some money, no need to worry.” Reg smiled in a supportive way. ‘Don’t know what she would do with out me’.

Alex finished the last few bites of her bagel, leaving no crumbs to be found, and they where off once again. Reg walked beside her best friend, staring off at the bright clear sky. There wasn’t much for them to do this early in the morning, so they just, wandered around the city, saying hello to various friends they came across.

“We better get on that money now before all the jobs are gone.” Alex suggestion She was right. ‘She’s always right’ “Alright, what do you want to do? Free lance bus girling? Bag girl at the grocery store? Or should we check out the lost pets fliers.” ‘This city we are proud to call our home takes pity on its street kids. Most of the businesses around here will let us work at their establishments for a bit of cash here and there, it’s a pretty good deal’. “I’m in favour of the lost pet fliers” Alex said with a grin. ‘She is such a humanitarian, always in favour of saving some poor mutt’.

They made there way down to the grocery store. There was a local bulletin board there where people placed adds, and lost posters.

“Ah, here’s one, a miniature pincer, look, he’s so cute.”Alex squeeled. ‘Every thing is cute to this girl, even those dogs with no fir, I think their quite ugly, honestly’. “Alright, grab the pick, and lets get to searchin’” Reg said turning to the door. ‘These pet searches really are only something like a 1/4 chance of success, but hey, we’ve got great motivation, don’t find the mutt, don’t get the mullah’.

They headed out in to the town. “Ok, I’ll check down this ally, you take that one up there ok?” The alleys where always so dark, they had to go right down to the end to know if the little rascals where there or not. “Ok Reg, catch up with you in a few.” Alex waved and headed up the street.

“Trash can, trash can, bum, rat, no mutt…Maybe Alex had better luck” Reg said as she walked down the Ally with a sigh and headed back out to the light of the street.

“Hey Al, any luck.” ‘Please oh please have had better luck then me’. “Nope, no dog.” Alex sighed. “Damn it. Well…lets keep looking.” Reg also sighed deeply.

Reg and Alex continued their search until late in the afternoon, and then even in to the evening. It was starting to get dark, it was almost time to give up the search. They had slowly worked their way in to the more…unfriendly part of the city. “Ok, I give up.” Reg said as she finished checking yet another ally. From the ally she could hear screams, and lots of them.

“What the heck is going on out there??...Alex” ‘Alex ,Alex, please be ok.’ Reg yelled in her own head, hoping it would make it so.

Reg ran out in to the street from the dark ally. Cop cars, and armoured vans had moved in to the area, they where every where, they had come without warning. About a dozen of them had come in, no sirens had gone off..

“There are some more kids over here!” A man shouted as he jumped out of the back of the van. “Ive got one!” It was alex. They where loading the people they had ‘captured’ in to the vans, the man was dragging Alex there to.

“Alex! You let go of her you a** whole!” Reg ran after the man. “Let go of me!” Alex was struggling wildly in the mans arms, but he was much strong then her. “Let go of her!” Reg yelled at the man as she began pulling on his arms feirsly, and beating on his arms. “Cut it out kid!” The man said, taking one hand off of Alex, and swinging at Reg. Reg ducked under the swing, and brought her fist up to meet his chin. “Gah! Why you little” He completely let go of Alex. “Fine, you want to go kid? Bring it on.” He swung at her again, this time making contact with her shoulder. Reg stumbled backwards, and then he moved in behind her, and wrapped his arms around her neck.

“We’ve only got room for one more.” One of the men loading the van yelled. “I got your last one right here, and she’s feirsly too”. He laughed, almost mocking her. He picked her up by her neck with his arms still wrapped around it. “Alex, get out of here!” Reg screamed to her startled friend. “But Reg!” Reg kicked in her direction. “Get the f@#k out of here!” She commanded.

The man turned around, and then tossed her in to the van. “Don’t worry kid, you’ll have a lot of fun where you’re going.” He laughed again and then the doors closed.
‘Some how, I highly doubt that’ Reg thought as she rubbed her shoulder with one hand, and her neck with the other. She got up and leaned against the doors. The doors had to be about, 3 inches of thick steel. They had small windows in them, with three bars running vertically in them. She looked out the window, and what she saw was Alex, still standing there, with a shocked look on her face.
heart
The van started to move, it hit a bump, and Reg fell to the floor again. ‘What the hell is going on here…’ She thought as she looked up at other people who where in the van. There where mettle benches lining the inside of the van. People of various ages and ethnicities lined the benches. The only thing they seemed to have in common, was that they all lived on the streets.

Reg decided to stay on the floor. She could tell what part of the city they where in , depending on how much she was bouncing around. ‘ Inner city road…..some what smooth, but not with out its bumps…’ Half an hour or so passed, and she found her self bouncing more then ever. ‘We’re on the outskirts of the city now…the roads here haven’t been re-paved in years…We’re stopping?’ She said to her self as she got up again. Sure enough, the vans and cop cars had come to a stop.

The vans where all turning around and lining them selves up so their ends where facing a building. Reg looked out the window. On the out side, it appeared to be just an ordinary warehouse. ‘Why where we brought..’ Before she could finish her thought, the doors where thrown open, and she fell out of the van, on to the ground. She was picked up by the arms by two men. “Careful there kid.” One of the men said as they helped her up…and then didn’t let go of her arms. Though she resisted, she had no luck. ‘God it sucks to be small.’

The men where unloading all the people they had rounded up in to the warehouse. “Hey, meat head.” Reg yelled, looking up at the man holding on to her right arm. “What the hecks goin’ on here?”. The man looked down at her. “Sorry kido, that’s classified.” ‘Classified? Is this some government dealy then?..’ She thought to her self as they came to the large doors of the warehouse. “Follow the line.” The man holding on to her left arm said, as she was pushed forward. There was a line of people heading farther in to the warehouse. There where men with stun guns lined up on ether side of the pedestrians.

Reg was stunned when she made her way into the warehouse. On the out side it appeared to be an ordinary building, but on the inside, it was high tech. The walls where all white chrome. ‘This….is not an ordinary warehouse…..’ She thought as the followed the people in front of her. “Wow, hey watch it.” She had been looking all around, but not paying attention to the line in front of her, and she bumped into some one. The line had stopped moving.

“Reg?” Reg heard some one call her name from behind her. She glanced back, the voice sounded familiar. “Maxy?” Reg said as she saw the blond headed girl. ‘Maxy, good old Maxy, always shows up in unexpected places.’ “What are you doing here? ” Maxy asked and smiled as she forced her way through the line of people and up to where Reg was standing. “Oh I don’t know, I felt like having a little adventure you know? Nothing like getting picked up by the police to spice up a boring evening.” Reg said sarcastically as she greeted her friend. “Good answer, as always.” She said looking around. “What is this place? Its got a weird vibe to it…” ‘She’s one of those people who believe in karma, auras, and all that strange stuff.’ “I don’t know, wish I did…” Reg sighed.

The line started moving again, from what Reg could see, they where entering a room through these swinging doors. There where about 30 people in front of her, and 10 behind. “This place almost feels like a high security hospital to me…” Reg whispered to Maxy. “Ya, I agree with you, and I don’t like Hospitals.” Maxy shuddered. ‘Gotta agree with her on that, I hate needles…and doctors ’. Reg thought and shuddered as well.

“You know” Maxy started to say as the line started moving again, and then stopped abruptly. “I heard about something like this happening on the north side of town to.’ Reg turned to look at her. “Really?” “Ya, I thought it was just some crazy rumour though.” She continued. Reg rubbed her head and said “Huh….I don’t blame you, this does seem a little crazy, if not a lot…”

“This is starting to look hopeless..” A woman said to her self as she looked at her computer screen. The line of people came in to her hospital like office room through a swinging door on the right, one person at a time, and they left through a swinging door on the left. “We’ve already scanned over ¾ of this city…this place might not have what we are looking for after all…” She sighed then said “NEXT!”

Half an hour passed, and Reg and Maxy just talked, and exchanged theories about what was going on. “I think they are looking for aliens hiding them selves amongst human populous.” Maxy laughed slightly. “Na, I bet its some sort of human experimentation lab!” Reg laughed.

‘NEXT!” a woman’s voice called from inside the swinging doors. The girls hadn’t been paying attention, they had moved up to the front of the line. Maxy gulped. “Looks like I will find out soon enough eh?” She laughed nervously. “NEXT!!” The woman called again. “Move it kid.” One of the guards by the door said as he pushed her towards the door. “Catch on the flip side Reg.” Maxy waved with an uneasy look on her face as she walked through the door.

Time past slowly as Reg waited, wondering what would await her in the next room. “NEXT!” The voice called, and she was pushed through the door. “Please step on to that platform there.” A woman with short brown hair said as she looked at a computer screen. Reg looked around the room, just like the rest of the place, it kind of resembled a hospital/ laboratory.

She also noticed a table beside the metal platform she was suppose to stand on. It had several needles in various sizes on it. She gulped. “On to the plat form please.” The woman said again as she looked up from the screen. A guard was standing by the swinging door on the opposite side of the room. “Get movin’ kid.” The guard said sternly.

“I don’t like the looks of this…” Reg thought as she stepped on to the platform. The woman stood up and walked quickly over to the table beside the plat form. She selected a medium syringe and looked at reg. “Kind of small aren’t you..hmm..Well, we just need a little blood sample.” She said holding up the needle.

“He…he..IIII don’t think so. I don’t do needles.” Reg said stepping off the plat form. “I think I’ll just be..” the guard at the door grabbed her arm. “Sorry, not an option” He said with a tight grip. “This will only take a second.” The woman said walking closer to Reg. “Noooo thank you.” She said struggling to get her arm free.

“Ah, so you intend on resisting then? Alright. CAN WE GET ANOTHER GUARD IN HERE?” The woman called to the door. A few seconds later, a tall, buff man in a lab uniform walked through the door. “Need some help miss?”

“Yes, this girl refuses to let me take the blood sample, so I will need you to hold her still while I do it, K?” She smiled at him. “How can some one say something so evil with such a smile?” Reg though as she glared at the woman.

“I’m not going to stick around for this.” Reg said to her self as she raised her gripped arm slightly, and then brought it back hard into the stomach of the guard already holding her. “Take that you big lomax!” Reg laughed as he gripped his battered belly and let go of her arm. While paying attention to the guard she had elbowed, she had missed the other larger fellow moving close up behind her. “Take it easy there little miss.” He said as he grabbed on to both of her arms and pulled them behind her back, rendering her helpless.

“Now just stay still, this wont take long, and you will barely feel it.” The man seemed almost nice, talking in a soft voice, but Reg wouldn’t let him tell her what to do. “Let…let go of me!” She struggled and tried to pull away. The man suddenly let her go, and she tumbled to the ground. “OOUF!” Reg said as he man sat on top of her back, and grabbed on to her arms..

“Your trapped now kiddo. Go ahead Doctor Aran. She can’t move now.” He said with a slight smile. “Thank you Richard, you’ve been a great help with these uncooperative guests.” The woman smiled as she knelt down beside Reg and tied a little elastic around her arm to make the vain pop out. “That is my job miss.” He said as he gripped Reg’s arm a little harder to keep it still.

“Now then, that wasn’t so bad was it.” The woman was done taking Reg’s blood. “It was highly unpleasant.” Reg said, glaring at her from the floor. “Now all I have to do is put this in the system and see what there is to see…” She said as she walked over to the computer. A large cube type scanner was attached to the computer. It had a cylindrical opening on the top of it. The brown haired woman slid the needle into the opening and then sat at the computer.

“Ya..can I get up now?” Reg said irritated as she looked up at the man holding her down. “I suppose so.” He laughed slightly and then stood up and helped her to her feet.

The woman, now known as Doctor Aran watched the screen of her computer as Reg’s blood was scanned. “I…I don’t believe it!” She said, suddenly sounding very happy. “Did you find what you where looking for Doctor Aran?” The man known as Richard asked looking at her.

“YES! This is perfect!” She smiled. “Dismiss all the others, we won’t be needing to scan them.” She stood. “As you wish Miss.” Richard said turning to leave the room.

‘Found what she was looking for?’ Reg thought , slowly and sneakily making her way to the door out. ‘I don’t like the sound of that…better book.’

“Where do you think your going?” Doctor Aran looked up. “GUARDS!” She yelled. A few men came in to the room. “Yes Doctor Aran?” One of them asked. “Escort this girl to her new quarters.” She said pointing at Reg.

“Ne…new quarters? I’m not sticking around here, heck no!” She said bolting for the swinging door on the left. The door swung inwards, though Reg had not touched it. “Sorry, your not going anywhere.” Another man in the black uniform blocked the door way. “Great…no way out” Reg said backing up. The men behind her grabbed her arms. “Come with us little girl, nice and easy.” The man on her left arm said as they began to lead her out of the room. ‘This…is bad…’ She thought as she tried to pull away.

“Hm, not going to go peacefully eh? That’s fine with us. Since your so short..” the man on her right arm started to say. “SHORT? I am not short! I just… haven’t hit my growth sprit yet!” She yelled angrily, she was the only one aloud to make comments on her height.. The man chuckled “None the less, we can just do this.” The men both lifted her up, so her feat couldn’t touch the ground and started to carry her away. “Hey! That’s not fair!” Reg glared, and flailed her now free hanging feat.

The men took her out of the room through the one that she had entered. The many people that where in the line behind her where now being shoed out of the warehouse, like unwanted vermin.

“So whats goin’ on here any way?” Reg said, still glaring. “The dock will explain all that, its not our place to say.” “Ok then…lot of help you guys are.” She sighed and dropped her head. She brought her head back up. “Can you at least tell me what this place is?” “It’s a government run facility, currently known as lab X” One of them said as he carried her down a hall.

“Lab X?...that is so incredibly lame.” Reg raised an eye brow. “Tell us about it.” The man to her right chuckled. “I’m Ale by the way, most people call me big Ale, and the guy to your left is Ben. “YO” he smiled at her. “Nice to meet you guys…now…can you put me down?”

“That depends.” Ale said. “Are you going to try and take off?” he chuckled. “I make no promises ether way.” “Then I am afraid we cant do that.” Ben laughed. “Well, here we are any way. This is where you will be living from now on.” Ben said, as he opened a steel door. The room was white, just like the rest of the Lab. There was a single bed in the upper left corner.

The room was 2 story’s high, with nothing to separate the 2 floors.. There was only one window in the bottom half of the room, it was a one way mirror. The upper half was windows all around.

“This…is a creepy place..” Reg said as they walked into the room with her. “Ya…it kind of freaks me out to…well…see you later!!” Big Ale said as they put her down and left the room quickly, closing the thick steel door behind them.

Ch 2 The Subject of Lab X?

“This…is just a strange dream brought on by bad cream cheese from the bagel I ate this morning…” Reg said aloud as she paced the white walled room the Large men known as Big Ale and Ben had placed her in. “I gotta’ get out of here…Alex…she’ll be lost with out me..” She walked over to the door and began banging her head hard on the thick steel.

The door swung open, and Doctor Aran walked in. “Hello, I am Doctor Aran. I have come to collect some personal information from you.” As the door opened, Reg stumbled back wards a little bit.

“Personal…information?” She rubbed her head. “Yes, please, sit on the bed there.” She pointed towards the bed in the left corner. She had some guards roll in a chair, and she held in her arms a clip board and pen.

“Hm…now why should I?” Reg glared. “Because” Doctor Aran started “I have large guards at my disposal who could easily render you immobilized if you refuse to cooperate?” She sneered.

“…Good point…” Reg backed up and jumped on to the bed. She leaned up against the wall, and grossed her legs.

“Thank you, now, on to the questions, Name?” The Doctor walked to her chair and sat in it adjacent to Reg sitting on the bed. “Reg.” She said looking up at the ceiling. “Reg? That is a peculiar name…is it short for something?” The doctor said, writing on her clip board. “No, its just Reg.” “Hm..I see…Age? Birth Date?”

“Look, I’m not answering any of your questions until you answer some of mine.” She said crossing her arms. “Alright, I suppose I can give you that liberty.” The doctor said, crossing her own legs and waiting for Reg to talk. “Ask away.”

“Ok, first of all…” She got up and jumped off the bed and started pacing again. “What is this place, or rather what is it for…already know the lame name. Why am I here? What do you want with me? When am I getting the puck out of here?” she said as she continued to pace the floor.

“That is a lot of questions to answer at once, but I will do my best.” The doc said, and then cleared her throat. “This place is a human experimentation lab, you are here because you contain in your DNA, a special gene that is very uncommon to come across, you are here for a series of experiments, and the time you will be leaving? Can’t say.”

Reg just stopped pacing. “Say what now?”

“There is a rare gene that exists in only 1 out of 4000 humans. To do the experiments we wish to do here, we need some one with such a gene to be our subject. Congratulations, you’re that one.” The doctor said, jotting something down on her clip board.

“Woh woh woh, let me get this strait then…your going to use me like a lab rat?!”
Reg asked, sounding very displeased. “Something like that.” The doc chuckled.

“And if I refuse to take part in these little experiments of yours? You know, human rights, so on and so forth?!” Reg said in an angry tone. “I am afraid you don’t have the liberty of refusing to participate. Since the gene is so rare, the government has decided to use what ever subject we can find, despite whether they agree to it or not. So you might as well get comfortable, because you are not going any where any time soon.” She said standing up.

“Its getting late, we will begin the experiment tomorrow, so you should get a good night sleep.” She said and went to the steel door. It opened, she left, and it closed and locked behind her.

“Ya, like any one could sleep knowing they are going to have some kind of experiments performed on them in the morning…” Reg growled and sat on the edge of the bed. She lowered her head in to her hands. ‘What am I going to do…Alex... please be ok with out me…for now...’

She let her self fall back on to the bed. She stared at the ceiling. It was just as white as the rest of the building. “So white…so boring…so stuffy…Where’s the cool night breeze? This place, majorly sucks balls…And who knows what tomorrow will bring? Needles?...gaaah…” She groaned to her self. “Like I said…just…a strange dream… when I wake up, I will be back with Alex in the streets, in my nice warehouse…ya...that’s right…” She closed her eyes.

“Hey, kid…Kiiiidoo…wake up…” Came a Mans voice. “Not now Alex, I’m actually sleeping for once…” Reg said, swinging her hand in the air, and then flopping over on her side. “Come on, the docks waiting for us.” The mans voice came again.

‘Hold up a sec…last time I checked, Alex did not sound like a man in his 30s…’ Reg thought as she opened one eye. Her vision was blurry for a moment, and her eye stung a bit from the brightness of the white walls.

“Mrrss…what the…” She sat up and rubbed her eyes, looked around, and saw Big Ale and Ben. “Oh right…the lame lab…So it wasn’t a dream then…Damn.” She scratched her head, disappointedly.

“Thaaats right!” Big Ale grinned, sounding like a sports announcer. “But think of it this way…if this was a dream, your mind would be pretty messed up, don’t you think?” He laughed. “Now come on, the doc is waiting.”

“Oh ya, miss ‘I have large guards at my disposal.’ She seems nice.” Reg said sarcastically. “Let her wait.” Reg crossed her arms and remained on the edge of the bed.

“Come on little miss, you know how this ended last time. You can ether come peacefully, or we could just pick you up and carry you there.” Ben chuckled a bit.

“Fine fine… Lets get what ever this is the hell over with…” she sighed and stood up. ‘I’m kind of curious any way…’

They left the room, and turned right, down the hall. ‘We came from the left last night...so then, the way out is that way also… good to know...’ She thought, looking back down the hall towards the door she had entered through the night before. There was a swinging door at the end of the hall they were walking down. Big Ale pushed it open.

“Good morning.” Doctor Aran greeted them as they entered the room. “Please put the subject over on that plat form.”

“Uh, the so called subject, has a name you know.” Reg glared. The doctor seemed to completely ignore her, which only lead to greater irritation.

Big Ale and Ben nudged Reg towards the plat form. It seemed to be a scale. She stepped up on it. There was a digital display off to the right of the platform, and as she stepped up, it went from 0 to 115.

“Weight…slightly below normal.” The doc wrote down on her ever present clip board.
“Thanks for noticing” Reg said sarcastically, crossing her arms.

Once again, the doc ignored her. “We are ready to begin the first experiment. Hold the subject please.” Doctor Aran said as she went over to a table off to the left. On the table there was a lap top, and a rack with various test tubes held delicately with in it. Much to Reg’s dismay, she could also see that there where several syringes beside the vials of liquids.

Doctor Aran selected a vial from the rack, and picked up one of the needles. “We will start with feline domesticos.” She said, speaking to her self.

“Feline.. domesticos?” Reg thought, once again, not liking where things where going.

Before she could speak out in protest, whether or not it would even do any good, Big Ale was at her side, and firmly grasped her right arm. Ben was quickly at her other side.

“Hold her tight please, we wouldn’t want the subject moving while the needle is going in. It could compromise the experiment.” She said, a vial of light purple liquid in her hand. She inserted the needle in to the liquid, and pulled the plunger out, extracting it from the vial.

“Ok, what ever that stuff is, I am pretty sure I do not want it in my body.” Reg said, straggly in the burly men’s grasps.

“Don’t worry kiddo, its perfectly safe for use on humans, now keep still, it will be over before you know it.” Ben tried to encourage, and calm her as she continued to struggle.

“Experiment 0.1 commencing.” Dr. Aran said, stepping closer to Reg. She reached out, and lifted Reg’s shirt enough for her stomach to be exposed. She placed her palm flat on Reg’s stomach.

“Holy F your hands are cold!” Reg jumped, but didn’t get too far with the two men still holding her.

She spread her middle and index fingers, choosing the right place to insert the needle. “What are you doing?” Reg said, feeling more then a little uncomfortable with the situation and having her hand on her belly.

“Right here should be good…” Dr. Aran said as she brought the needle up, and pushed it in.

“YOW, you b***h!” Reg yelped. Dr. Aran pushed the plunger in, depositing the purple liquid in to Reg.

“Alright, starting stop watch, we will see how long it takes for a reaction to take place, you can let her go now boys.” She said, picking up a stop watch and clicking the start button. The men let go of her arms.

With the doctors back turned, and guys unprepared, Reg saw it as a prefect opportunity to get the hell out of there. She took off out the door, and headed down the hall.

“Hey! Get back here!” Ben said, starting to chase after her. “Leave her, she wont get to far, trust me.” Dr. Aran said, watching the stop watch as the seconds ticked by.

“They aren’t chasing after me.” Reg quickly noticed as she ran down the hall. It seemed to be getting longer, and larger. “Is this a hallucination?!” She yelled, as she stopped, feeling woozy. The ceiling continued to move farther away, as did the walls.

“Take it easy now, stay calm.” Big Ale said, coming up behind her. He also seemed much more gigantic then he had been a few moments ago. ‘Why does every one keep saying that? ‘take it easy, stay calm’. Would you be calm if you where in my place?’ She thought. He reached down one massive hand, and scooped her up off the ground. She had been to terrified by the site, and this strange feeling that had come over her, to move.

“00.00.50” Dr. Aran said, quite satisfied, and rather exited with the result. “Boy, you where cute before kid, but look at you now!” Ben couldn’t help but laugh a bit as Big Ale carried her back in to the room.

“Set her down right there please.” Dr. Aran pointed to the table. “I have a few questions I need to ask.”

“Set me on the…table?...” Reg said, her head feeling heavy. “Alright, please answer these questions as accurately as possible.” Dr. Aran said, sitting beside the table with her clip board.

“How do you feel right now?” She asked, taking a pen in hand, and eagerly awaiting Reg’s answer.

“I feel really….weird…my head is heavy…” She answered.

“Alright then.” Dr. Aran said, quickly writing what she said down. “Ok, time to test the response of the senses. See if the transformation enhances them.”

“Tra…transformation? Say what now?” Reg asked, raising an eye brow. “Oh yes, boys, get the mirror.” Dr. Aran looked up to the men.

Ben got a hand held mirror from corner of the room, and brought it back. He slowly lowered down in front of Reg.

Instead of her usual short black hair, and Caucasian face, there was a fuzzy little face of a cat with black fir. “That’s…that’s…that’s……ME?!??!?! WHAT IN GODS NAME HAVE YOU DONE TO ME?!?!” She exclaimed in pure panic, her heart beating viciously in her chest. She started to back up from the mirror, and she fell off the table. It wasn’t just her face that was that of a cat, it was her entire body, claws, ears, fir, a tail, every thing.

She started to have a panic attack, finding it incredibly hard to breath, and then every thing went black.

“Is she going to be ok?” Reg could hear Ben talking. “Yes, she will be fine, she just fainted.” Came Dr. Aran’s voice. “Hard to believe a tough little thing like her would faint so easily.” Big Ale chuckled, poking fun at her, even in her disoriented state.

“I…fainted?.....Why?...The mirror…my reflection, it couldn’t be….could it?!” Reg thought, as she opened her eyes. She tried to calm her self, but she could still feel her heart jumping in her chest. She sat up, and brought what she hoped would be a hand up to eye level. Much to her dismay, it was a fuzzy little paw.

“What in the world did you put in to me?” Reg said, looking up at Dr. Aran. “Jump up on to the table here and I will tell you.” She said, patting the desk top. “Are you kidding me? Do you know how far up that is from here?” Reg said. “Just try it.” Dr. Aran encouraged. “What, is she stupid? Fine, I will humour her.”

Reg crotched down on her now 4 legs, and took a leap up. Much to her own surprise, she got up on to the desk top. “Woooh, this is really weird…I’m like…agile ..like...a…” Reg said slowly, just then clicking in to what she was about to say.

“A cat?” Big all chuckled, finishing her sentence. “Ya…exactly…” She said, still feeling heavy headed.

“Alright, since the experiment was a success, its time for a full explanation.” Dr. Aran concluded. “The rare gene you have has been dubbed ‘Gene X’, hence the name of this laboratory.” She began.

“Of coarse! How creative is that.” Reg snarled sarcastically. As always, the doc ignored her sarcasm. “The gene is so rare to find, because its basically a deformity in the persons DNA. It’s a ‘blank’ cell. These blank cells are literally what they are named. They contain no DNA. This experiment was to see if you could perhaps, inject a DNA sample in to that blank gene, and change a person in to a completely different creature. And what a success it was! All my research and theory’s on the subject where correct!” She said excitedly.

“Ok…so this is like Christmas for you then….your a geek.” Reg said, flicking her tail. “Since this experiment is over, how about you change me back, and I go on my merry way then?” Reg said, hopefully.

The doc suddenly took a different tune. “Oh no, this is just the beginning! There are so many more experiments that stream for this one, and all of them will required you.” She said, picking up her clip board.

“WHAT?!” Reg was afraid she would say that. “I’m not sticking around, furry body or no firry body!” Reg screeched as she lept down form the table. The feeling of nausea, and heavy headedness had subsided, and, once again, she took off out in to the hall.

“Seal all the exits, she must not get out.” The doc commanded to Ben. “Mr. Ale, go catch her, I will walky. (walky-talky) Richard to help you.” She motioned for them to get going quickly after. She took a walky-talky out of her belt, and called Richards frequency.

“Got to get out of here fast.” Reg thought, scampering along the ground. “God this body is hard to run in!” She yelled to her self as she tried to keep from tripping over her own feat. The hall felt much longer then it had before, surly her new stature and body size was to blame. She didn’t know what her life would be like, stuck as a cat, but she figured. ‘Its better then being trapped in this place.’

An alarm sounded through out the building. “Is that alarm over little old me?” She said aloud, kind of feeling special that she had an alarm going off in her honour. While some what basking in the glory of the alarm, she reached the end of the hall, only to meet a man that was even larger then Big Ale, and Ben. It was the man named Richard, the one that had sat on her for the blood sample. Reg tried to stop running, but she just skidded along the cold, sterile, tile floor..

Richard quickly grabbed Reg by the back of the neck, and hoisted her in the air. She really expected that the sudden grasping and hoisting of her neck would hurt like hell, but she barely felt a thing.

“Now, where is a sweet little thing like you heading off to in such a hurry? Your business here isn’t finished quite yet.” Just like the others, he seemed to be in his late 30’s, early 40’s.

“Hey! Put me down!” Reg squirmed. “Sorry little miss, would love to, but cant. Say, you seem a lot different from when I sat on you. Did you do something different with your hair?” He laughed a little. It seemed all the guards in this place couldn’t help but poke fun at Reg.

“Haha, your so funny.” She glared. “I know.” He grinned. “I don’t believe we have been properly introduced. You can call me Richard, or Rich, what ever tickles your fancy.” He reached out his other hand to her. “Ya, I got that last night while you where holding me down.” She snipped, and clawed at his outstretched hand. He quickly retracted it before she could draw any blood. “Now now, how I that for a young lady to act?” “If you haven’t noticed, I’m not exactly a young lady any more.” She sighed angrily, and hung her head, fully realizing there was no escape from Richards grasp. He was much bigger then her, even more so then before, and this was rather depressing.

“Ok, lets not have any more escape attempts, alright?” Dr. Aran said, and Richard brought her back. “Some one close that door, and lock it please.” She motioned for some one to get the door. Reg had been to distracted to notice before, but there was another door, off to the left of the room. It was not a swinging door, like the rest of them, it was more of a steel door, like the one that lead to her so called “New quarters.”

“Let us venture in to the larger test facility shall we?” Dr. Aran ‘suggested’ as she opened the steel door. You would half expect a door such as this to squeak, or have some sort of noise come from its hinges, but it seemed it was much too new for this.

“Lets not and say we did.” Reg said, wriggling in Richards fist once again. “Determined little thing isn’t she?” He chuckled slightly. They ventured in to the room behind the steel door.

The room was huge, probably the whole rest of the warehouse. Same white chrome ceilings, walls, and boring tile floors. “This place is huge….” Reg said quietly, while taking it all in. There where so many different things in the room, it was hard to focuses on any thing. Every thing was beneath them, they where on a platform with stairs that lead down to the large area. There where cast iron bars all around the platform, and all the way down the stares, acting as railings.

There where a few different “animal habitat” looking things, a big water tank, and a few other oddities. “Ok, this place, though I hadn’t though it possible, just got even weirder.” She said, raising what would have been an eye brow in her normal form.

The group made their way down the stares. Though they appeared to be just as new as the rest of the building, they squeaked, and clunked a bit while the larger men walked down them.

‘No surprise there.’ Reg chuckled to her self, she suddenly became very worried that she was making jokes in a situation such as the one she was in.

‘Gotta’ stay focused on the task at hand, focuses, focuses, focuuuuse!’ She squinted, and tried to clear her head.

“Alright, time for you to change back” Dr. Aran said as they reached the bottom of the stair case. “Set her down on the desk here please, Richard.” She said, motioning to a desk that was just to the right of the bottom of the staircase.

“Yes Miss.” He said, walking over to the big steel desk that resembled a doctors bed used in clinics for check ups. He set the little ‘cat’ down.

“This is gonna’ involve another needle…isn’t it.” She glared, and shuttered, partially because she hated the thought of needles, and partly because the desk was cold.

“No, actually.” Dr. Aran answered, turning away from her for a moment. “Lets see…how do I explain this…” She said, tapping her pen on her chin.

“In theory…you should be able to change forms just by….visualizing it..” Dr. Aran said, turning back to Reg.

“Visualizing it?...What…does that even mean?” She said, tilting her head in an adorable cat like way.

“Visualizing….means…Um..” Dr. Aran was pondering when Richard spoke up.

“It means, to picture it in your mind. Try closing your eyes and picturing your self as a human.” He said with a nod.

“OOH, I get it. Ok, let me see here.” She said, and closed her eyes. A few moments later, Reg felt that same strange sensation engulf her body, and when she opened her eyes, she was at eye level with Dr. Aran who was closely observing her.

“Did it work??” She asked, but no sooner had she asked, she had brought her hand up so she could look at it. It had worked, she was human again.

Then…she herd snickering. Ben, Big Ale, and Richard had all turned there backs to her, but Dr. Aran was still watching.

“What are they snickering at??” She said, feeling out of the loop…not that it should matter because she wanted out of the loop and out of this building ether way.

“Here, put these on.” Dr. Aran said, handing her a set of white cotton pants and a white cotton shirt.

“Why would I where those ugly things when I have my own…” She suddenly found it very cold in the room, like a heavy draft had suddenly fallen… even more so then when she was a cat. She looked down…and…she was completely naked.

“…WHERE DID MY CLOTHES GO?” She said, quickly grabbing the set that Dr. Aran had offered her, and holding them over her self, self consciously.

“When you transformed in to a cat, your body’s new miniature form was too small for your rags. As you tried to run away, they came off. You must have been feeling so strange that you didn’t notice.” The doc concluded and jotted something down on the clip board.

“Now, please put those on.” The doc said.

Reg quickly got in to the clothes. Even if they where just white, plain, and boring…and a bit itchy, it was better then every one and there mother seeing her birthday suit.

“Just because my clothes fell off, dosen’t mean you get to keep them, I want those back, you know.” Reg sneered. She would need them again when she actually managed to brake out.

As per usual, she was ignored. “We will start with the agility test, then the heart monitoring test…We need to get her normal stats before doing any animal testing…” Dr. Aran said, seeming to be taking to her self, as she looked over her ever present clip board.

To be continued.

I edited your post. there is a heart at the point where i stopped reading. So I can pick up where I left off. See if you can't fix some of the more technical errors in your post. I listed them as chronologically as I could.

My opinion: They idea behind it, while nothing mind blowing, is decent. I like it. almost all of it needs little more than some tweaking. grammar and commas are your weakest point. the rest makes for a good story, simple, fast paced read that does a decent job at holding your attention. A few things I noticed could help though.

You go really heavy on the dialogue, even so far as to describe your environment through thoughts instead of writing it out in normal format. When you do, they are short, simple sentences. Part of it might be because my style holds for few words and many pictures in my writing but I feel this can take a lot from the feel, and mood of a piece. And you never really see published books that are almost all "talk". Ever hear tht saying "Actions speak louder..."? It has many applications. plus the all the thought speach, i cant tell who is thinking what.

Reg seems to be your main character, with a good portion of description coming from her. Is she writing a documentary? The style seems like it.

Make sure you place space around quotations, " crowd the inside speech, but not the outside. Its like a protective wall.

Watch your CAPITALIZATION. This is one of my worst skills.

Who is Reg? Is that a short name? Reggie? If the character's name is 'Reggie', introduce as 'Reggie' then lapse into the nickname. It's only polite.

Clarify on gender. it takes several paragraphs 'til i figure outz Reggie is actually female.

Name of the second person unclear from beginning. I know there are two characters, but "Reg urged her" does not tell me who. I only learn her name is Alix (or Alex, you switched after the first mentioning) later. You can't go halfway. You only should bring your characts up right away or keep them anonymous (it's like distanced, mysterious. Fun to do). If you do it to one and not the other, it can be confusing.

Careful with like words. To, two, too. They're, there, their. your, you're.

You missed a few contractions. Careful, some are easy to understand, but others can screw up words, and whole sentences get sticky. I've, I'll, We're, Can't, Ain't.

You miss your compound words an awful lot. Keep an eye out. Myself, someone, nameless

Run this through word, or at the very least, Spell check to catch those pesky typos. Missing letters, switched letters...they get stomped out rather fast with a click.

Reg and Alex continued their search= here it implies the two are togther only to later have reg begging alex to be alright in her mind...revealing that they are not. also, i want more details for reg's paranoia reasoning than just the fact it was an unfriendly part of town. in scenes like this, readers love the juicy, morbid type details. *salivates*
#1 Commas go before names, as they are additives to sentences. This includes nicknames, which are usually capitalized.

"Come on, Reg,..."
“No means no, Chika, I’m tired.” (chicka - chika; recognizing the often used Spanish word "girl")
‘God, she’s so lazy."
“Hey Al, any luck.” Hey, Al, ...
‘Please, oh please...'
“But, Reg!”
“Don’t worry, Kid, ..."

#2 Grammar
"I have beaten you out at poker the last 5 games in a row." Beaten to beat, already past participle. Remove "out" Beat you at poker flows much more fluid than beaten you out at poker.
Reg urged her over tired chum. over-tired. dash helps with confusion caused by the leading phrase "Reg urged her over" over where? over to tired? wha!?
its like 2 in the morning. two. Spell it out if under ten.
“Stop being such a wimp, c’mon, one more game." period after wimp. End of thought.
Reg snickered to her self=Herself.
she lie waiting to fall asleep- not lie, thats untruthful! Lay as in "As I lay myself to sleep..."
She sighed as she lie awake- lie=lay
She glanced at the open window beside where she lie- lie=lay
Ok, so I guess I should tell you a little about my self, there isn’t really much to tell. myself. Alex suggestion She was right. Alex suggested. Free lance bus girling? <- what is this? I have no idea if this is an actual job or some weird grammar.
There wasn’t much for them to do this early in the morning, so they just, wandered around the city, saying hello to various friends they came across. so they just comma? remove it. It's not an interjection.
...but he was much strong then her. Replace with Stronger

#3 Spell check!
wined=whined
Draftee=drafty
braking=breaking
Chicka=chika
mullah=moola
a** whole= a*****e
feirsly=fiercely
feirsly2= feisty, fierce? adjective from adverb replacement.

#4 Awesome sauce
I love the description in the sentence "Savoring it like a last meal" Similes always give me the smileys.

Don't worry so much on your spelling. You aren't too bad. It's definitely not your best trait, but it's not so bad its frustrating to read through.

It seems your two girls are mostly developed, knowing who they are. What the like and their personalities is pretty set in. nothing of this is bad, but I'm a personal fan of growth. Everything is against a clear wrong. Why not mix it up with a moral dilemma? A hard decision? Something no win?

I love that attachment that they have to each other. When Reg is thrown into that van she thinks first only to stare out at Alex and see that Alex could get away safely. Broke my heart to imagine Alex standing there so forlorn.

Thank your for all your critisism. I was re-reading it my self last night, and picked up on a lot of things I need to fix, before you even posted xD.

Reg is a nick name, but your not to know what her real name is yet. She hates her full name.

I'm very bad at spelling, grammar was never my thing, and those god dang compound words have always given me trouble..as well as those Too, to, and two. Two= 2 Too= Too much, and to= also?

I need to go back and fix a lot, including separating the talking. Some one has told me to do that before, but I am just lazy, and haven't done it yet xD.

The moral dilemma is coming, its mostly the freedom thing, and being separated from Alex.

Reg and the Doctor Aran (haven't met her yet in your reading) are pretty much the only two characters that get to have open thoughts xD.

So far I've given the whole thing a quick read, almost akin to a skim, so I know the basics. Cat right?

and no, Too is for too much and is also for also. "I wanna go, too!"

and good to know its only reg and doc because sometimes the thoughts come after something Alex says and then I get confused. And anyway, just try and fix what you can, and being conscious of your weak and strong points helps a lot. I once more have a load of homework, and will continue reading once the load is off my shoulders. mrgreen But maybe not... Ive been lacking on my posting schedule far too much to be forgiven. burning_eyes

Ya, Reg and the doc are the conflicting party's in the story xD.

I will fix it up, and try to write some more xD.
