When her fiancee called her up in the middle of a work day, Cameron Eaton was expecting a question about a clogged drain, not a letter.
She also wasn't expecting the address to be real.
Silver slitted eyes gazed down at the letter, then back up to the building as she pulled her motorcycle to a park. Since the address belonged to a legit building, that meant they were going to be giving her a child which confused the hell out of her. What kind of adoption agency was this? And when had she applied?
Cammi pulled off her helmet and shook out her hair before running a brush through the tresses to arrange them in her customary pigtails. Her piercings itched. She should have turned back, but curiosity held her still.
"Five minutes, then I'll leave."

Right inside the building was a friendly young woman with large brown hair and even larger black glasses. She wore a labcoat and was presently doing something very seriously on her desk - even if that something was playing with her gameboy.

Cammi entered feeling apprehensive at best, but definately curious. She looked up at the ceilings, then do the floors and at all the walls as she made little circles. Slowly she made her way to the desk.
"Urm, excuse me?" She waved her letter. "Is this some kind of a joke or are you guys for real?" Honestly, looking down at the gameboy, she believed the first.

By now, Apoxi was more than used to this sort of thing, so she didn't even bother to look up from her game. "Yes, yes we are. Who're you?"

The woman's toes curled inside her boots as her insides warmed. It was an odd reaction, to be sure, but not for her. "Cameron Eaton. So, wait - let me get this straight. " She leaned up against the counter, one hand crossed under her bust and the other still waving the letter. "Did I apply for this? I mean, cuz if I did, I can't say I remember doing it."

"Ah, you're right on schedule then." Apoxi said, marking the name off a list.
"No you didn't. You were selected." the woman explained, standing up. "Do you want to pick out the child or shall I?"

Cammi opened and closed her mouth, her eyebrows scrunching up. Ever so slowly she lowered the letter to the counter. "Oh jeez..." She murmured. They seriously were going to give her a child, weren't they? For all she knew, even if it wasn't a specific kid, they all knew she was coming to give someone a home. It wasn't like she could just say No, sorry. I don't do orphans.
She pinched the bridge of her nose and counted back from ten. "You pick. If I do it, I'll end up with a van load."

"All right. Do you have a gender preference?" the woman inquired pleasantly.

Thinking back on the two little rugrats who had her fiance wrapped around their fingers, Cammi answered quickly. "A boy, please. My step-daughters are all the estrogene I can handle at the moment."

"A boy it is." Apoxi agreed, standing and nodding, "Just wait here please."
The woman headed down a short hallway and returned after a while, a boy limping along behind her on a pair of crutches.
"I'm afraid he's the only one available right now - all the others are in checkups at the moment. Unless you'd like to wait a while for another. But this boy's a good one, despite his looks." her last comment was teasing and affectionate as she reached out to ruffle his purple hair.
He sure was a mismatched thing, but cute and looked friendly at least.

Groaning, Cammi peeped between her fingers....and stared. Was that a real kid? It looked like a science experiment gone wrong or at least two kids slapped together.
She crouched down and held out a friendly hand. "Hey there, little guy. My name's Cameron. What's yours?"
He smiled and looked up at the woman before turning to Cammi. She could have sworn his antenna glowed brighter. Carefully he approached her. "Hsin. .....Momma?"
Ooooooooh, she was sinking fast. If her wings had been visible they would be drooping. "Well, ya. If thats okay?"

Apoxi smiled, yep, she'd picked the right one. Apart from being one of the few not being readied for checkups (she had to do those herself) Hsin was also one of the most heart wrenchingly loveable. He was disabled in some ways, which made him sad and in need of love, and he was just so sweet and upbeat about it, which made him cuddly and admirable.
"You like him then?" she laughed, getting out the paperwork.

"I think so." Cameron giggled and poked his nose.
Hsin laughed and squirmed away, his tail swaying behind him for added balance. He didn't stay gone long, though. His body rotated in a circle and when he came forward, his crutches fell to the wayside.
Luckily Cameron was there to catch him. She hugged her new 'son' to her chest and kissed the top of his head. "Be careful, okay, sport? Your already gimpy enough."
He laughed, snuggling close. "Kay."
"So, is there anything I need to prepare for? Um....appointments, check ups, home visits?"

"You need to bring him to see us once per stage of growth, and there'll be a mandatory health drive in a few weeks. It's totally free so don't feel bad about bringing him, it's just for a few more checkups after he's out of the labs. If you guys need extra help with funding, feel free to contact us." Apoxi said, showing her the paperwork, "And sign here."

Cameron hoisted Hsin up on her hip and handed the crutches off to him. The whole deal didn't sound so bad, albeit being a mother. One look at his cute little face nipped that feeling.
"I think we'll be fine, but I'll definately call if we do." She signed where shown and resituated the toddler. "So....I guess we're going home?" Slowly, she turned to Hsin.
He nodded eagerly, his antenna slapping her cheek with each go. "Yes, yes!"
