I'm one of those lucky people to have a dad that gets it. He's totally into the con stuff, reads some anime, dreams of cosplaying one day, and takes the weird s**t as it comes, totally loving it. He talked me into going to Anime Boston this year. He lets me go off in the con and just texts me to meet up, and, uh...I've agreed not to ask about any panels he goes to after 12 AM. xD It's nice because we got to go just the two of us, and I don't have to deal with the anti-con parents.

anyone else have parents who love it? Parent horror stories also welcomed.

My mom is the one who actually got me into anime. She got super into pokeon when it first came out. And I followed suit. Although she doesn't really know much about anime and manga, me and my sisters are trying to teach her though. When she went to a con with us, she starting talking to a light cosplayer in front of us in line.

Besides pokemon, the only other anime she remotely knows anything about is Naruto. So whenever she saw one she was like oh look there's a naruto.

I'm not sure my mom would be totally interested in actually going to a con but she was supportive enough about me going. She helped me find (and buy) half of the stuff for my Lucy costume (material, patterns, etc.) and some for my Yuki Cross costume.

She's somewhat into anime. She LOVES Ranma 1/2 --- she bought the first 6 seasons. Plus, when Inuyasha was on TV 5 or 6 years ago, she used to tape it for me (since I was in school) and she would tell me if it was a good episode or not in the morning. She loves Death Note (live-action) probably most of all. xD You should have seen her running into the store to buy the 3rd movie the day it came out. (she didn't get to see it in theaters because she was staying home with a dying relative that day). She didn't actually like it as much as she hoped she would, which sucked. xD My sisters had been gushing about it since the theater release.

She went to the limited theater release of the second movie and loved it and was very disappointed that she couldn't go to the 3rd one.

Maybe she'd be okay at a con but I think it would have to be one where she's not constantly blinded by naked flesh (people--- namely girls--- in skimpy outfits). xD She can take a lot but I don't know about that. It might have to be a con on a college campus or one with stricter rules for her to be okay. (Funny that she doesn't mind Ranma though... xD Guess it's not the same when the person is animated?)

My parents try to take an interest. it's so fun watching them struggle with the basics.

They know nothing when it comes to:
Cosplay/Convention norms (i.e. glomping and skimpy outfits)
Pronunciations
Which ones are popular.

They have limited knowledge in terms of:
Characters (if I've let them see the series)
When/where 4 conventions are.
Manga.

My mom struggles to learn from watching me. My dad works with alot of japanese people, so he gets it faster than she does. However, when he see's cosplayers (besides me, because i'd kick him below the belt) he calls them freaks.

My mom isn't into Anime, but she enjoys going to a convention. She talked to a girl from Bleach and a Jack Sparrow (He really looked like Jack Sparrow, plus my Mom LOVES him). Oh wait greatest memory of all, last con I went to a Kyouya started talking to her and my friend and I were watching from the line for Vic's Concert. Small con anyways he was very ethusiastic and my mom is texting me saying "He keeps going on and on." So my friend and I are laughing our butts off and then they said Kyouya was going to be my Daddy or Mommy which ever xd Anyways so when he finally left my Mom told me Kyouya told her to tell us "Believe it!" So yet again we burst out laughing. It turned out that Kyouya lives close to where I live xd That was a great Con experience! xd

My dad used to watch anime with me but it's my mum that is epic when it comes to cosplay.

During the con we went to last month she kept phoning us to check if the winner of the cosplay competition had been announced yet. I phoned her on the Sunday evening to let her know I'd won, then I got home the next day to find everyone already knew because she'd told them all! Everyone including our elderly next door neighbours knew and wanted to see my trophy. XD
Last year when I phoned her to tell her I'd won she started crying over the phone because she was so happy. :3

She let me take over her living room for a month (ours was too small) to make my big costume for this year. I killed the kitchen for a week too while dyeing fabric.
Last time my friend came round he ended up burning her carpet with the iron (left it face down) she was a bit annoyed but it was covered up easily so now she just takes the piss out of him!
She always offers to help if I'm making something and always picks things up for me in town if I need anything and helps me clean up afterwards too! She's the best cosplay helper you could ask for!

All of our friends absolutely love her too because she always asks what they're working on too and is genuinely interested. At the last con we went to I had loads of people asking why she didn't come and that she should come to cons with us all. This May she's coming with us to cheer me on at the big competition this year, she's actually cutting her holiday short to come with us. My husbands family is coming too so I'll have lots of middle ages cheerleaders it seems! XD

I've gotten my entire household into cons and stuff. Going to conventions is like a family vacation. The only difference is that we never stay in the same hotel room because of the amount of friends that come with me/the huge mess that erupts inside the room.

I think my mother is the one that's most involved though. She's usually the one that takes us on photo shoots, buys food, helps with cosplay (though my grandmother is better at it because she has more sewing experience) , and generally acts like a regular con goer. My father has only been to one and he seemed to like it. Which didn't surprise me because he used to go Scifi conventions when he was younger. My grandmother on the other hand. I had no idea she would be into this kind of stuff. She doesn't watch anime or anything, but she loves her video games. xDD One day she even told me, "I just PWNED you!!". XD

Over all we're kind of an odd bunch, but I love my family. : 3

My dad is into anime and he likes going to cons, but he doesn't like socialising with cosplayers and stuff...he's a bit shy xd My mum isn't into the anime stuff, but she takes in alot of what I say suprisingly and she's great at helping me make costumes which is always a bonus biggrin

My parents don't really care much. My dad will help me get supplies 4 cosplays or help me make props if I ask him. My mom just says I am just wasting money. (b4 it was the other way around mom was good and dad was bad). now they just accepted that I want 2 cosplay and that I will always go 2 cons.

My dad hares spending money in general so he dreads my brother and I going to cons. My mom isn't really thrilled about it but loves seeing the costumes people can make. She went into mega concerned mode when she saw the fake bruises my friend did for me at Anime Boston. I was cool and kept them on all the way home (this is a lie, I'm not cool). My friends' moms are a lot cooler with it. My secondary mom (i.e. best friend's mom) is our Animom. She got her own little Pikachu collection, including a Pikachu tattoo. Make up friend's mom just like seeing what her daughter can do and housing friend's mom tries to keep up with all the new stuff that keeps coming out.

I think I'm done. xD

Wow! That's harsh! XP
My parents aren't all that into it and I like to talk about things I love and anime is one of them. So my parents go into overload when I start talking about it! XP But my dad likes to go to comic cons with me. He is cool with those. He even bought me a sword at one! (But it was wooden which pissed me off! XP) I hope to go to Pheonix Comic Con with him but I might not because Kaigi Con is right after it and my favorite voice actor is going to be there! T^T I am so indecisive! XP

User Image Well im a parent of 2 little boys and actually got my oldest into anime/manga..does that count? lol. He reads Kingdom Hearts and he also likes Full Metal Alchemist now. They both also watch Reborn with me. 3nodding I wouldn't take them to a con at their age but when they are older I will be sure too.

My parents are like awesome.
1. My mum bought me a Shikamaru cosplay costume for Christmas
2. As an early birthday present my dad is paying for the tickets to the Mini Animania in March (which he allready has) and the Main Animania in September
Thanks to both of my parents I was able to cosplay at animania and didn't have to pay a cent (other than to buy stuff from the dealers room)

My mom likes anime, since she is Japanese she practically grew up with it 3nodding She bought me my Soul Reaper Cosplay biggrin
Her faviorite anime Doraemon.

My dad likes Voltron and stuff. Those old anime that came out in like the 80s. My dad also has otaku co-workers, he impressed me on his otaku vocabulary!

My parents don't mind me cosplaying or going to cons... But they don't really get into it at all. Last year at comicon all my dad did was sit at the hotel and sleep while me and my brother and all our friends were raiding comicon. It made me feel a little bad since he couldn't really get into it, but he said it was ok because he loved to walk around new york.

I didn't want to tell him but I still felt bad crying
