Perhaps the best place to go at night when you had supernatural powers was the roof of the observation deck on Destiny Tower. There, you could see the entire spread of the city below your feet, the endless lights and each one signaled someone who belonged to someone else. So where, exactly, did a lonely and lovely young woman fit into the web of social entanglement? Simply, she did not truly belong, and it was more glaringly obvious than a simple language barrier.

It wasn't hard to understand what Ray wanted when he'd patted her on the head and given her some lame task involving the capture of star seeds. Because it looked incredibly urgent that he was wearing his nice tie and that small bottle of cologne she knew he kept in his sock drawer? She'd bristled knowing he was going to be with that girl Stephanie, but there was nothing to say. Ray Gordon didn't see her as anything other than a child, and never would.

So it was with a brooding mind and foul mood that Wiseman's Lady eyed the city below, dreamily contemplating snuffing out each and every light one by one. It was always so comforting, to think of death and oblivion. "One by one, all the lights go out."

It was the power drew her out.

Nealite had been on her way home when she'd first felt it. An aura of power that tainted the air, a dark shadow that whispered to her, beckoned her. It was faint, dampened, but a power unlike she'd ever felt before, a power that no senshi, no Guardian, not even Charonite had come close to exuding. A threatening power.

The other soul surfaced without a second thought, a snake shedding its skin. It didn't take long for her to find the source of the power, the aura on the Tower acting as a weak beacon. A beacon... but for who?

For one brief moment, she stood at the bottom of the Tower, staring up at the small figure that leaned against the railing. In the next, she was on the deck, staring at the backside of the very same woman.

She was of slender build, her gown long enough to brush against the concrete. Her hair was equally as long and atrociously, unforgivably pink. But it wasn't the outfit that immediately caught the Queen's attention, nor was it the hair color. The girl before her bore the same hairstyle, that same treacherous hairstyle that only one other girl had ever worn in her presence. But how was it possible? Could it be possible? Charonite's words had intrigued her, but she knew he must have been mistaken. But here the girl stood, the power signature unmistakable, which only proved to stoke an ancient fire from within, a hatred that burned so deep, so endless.

Long fingernails dug into the palm of her hand as she stared at the back of the young woman's head, tearing into her own skin as she glided forward, her anger rising to a dangerous level by the mere sight of her. She shouldn't be here. She shouldn't be alive.

"How many times do I have to kill you before you finally die for good, Serenity?"

A normal person might have been surprised at the glamorous and dark queen who was suddenly there and spitting like a nasty cat. Black Lady had, however, felt her presence at the base of the tower and now it was almost overwhelming. The dark power radiating off the Queen of the Negaverse was greater than any she had felt in this place so far, save her Wiseman and against the Lady's own crystal power it was like two suns in each other's gravity - drawn in then trapped. Wiseman had warned her to be careful, that there were some things even he could not entirely protect her from. Apparently, Beryl was one of them. Evident was the sudden hardening of the young woman's jaw and her eyes went harder than diamonds before she turned, black gown swirling around her like an ocean of elegance. The words when they came, however, were in Japanese.

"Incredible. You got the name right, but not much else. I can't understand why you were worth a warning, if that is the best you can do, Beryl." Dismissal was curt in the turn of the Lady's head, her face as cold and hard as the metal they stood upon. In her mind, this queen was not even worth the title, as they were all pretenders. Nehelenia, Beryl, all of them queens grasping for empty, phantom thrones. There had only been one queen in this world, and that was the Queen of the Moon. Why pander to the ego of a pretender? Black Lady saw no need, for all that she had been cautioned. Foolish children never did listen to their elders, and for all her power and cool dismissal, she was quite a child still, evident in how her hands were also fisted tightly at the mention of a Serenity's death.

If the Queen of the Dark Kingdom was surprised by this, she failed to show it in her expression, the line of her mouth unwavering as her focus never drifted from the Moon Heiress. The change of language meant nothing to her, words spoken in a tongue she'd been forced to learn decades before. Eyes settled on the dark moon on her forehead. "You're different."

It was apparent that Charonite had spoken the truth - the power that had arrived in Destiny City with Serenity in tow had tainted the Princess, bent her to its own will. "And yet you still remain as stupid and weak as you were before. Shame, I expected more from a Chaos Seed."

One hand lifted and a single finger flicked itself in the girl's direction, a dark beam racing out from the tip and striking the woman on the arm. It cut through her sleeve, grazing against the skin yet slicing deep enough that it only took seconds for dark red to appear, the blood quickly staining her torn garment.

Smirking, her hand returned to her side as she moved to step forward. "Though you bleed just as you did when I killed you the last time; I suppose some things never change. Perhaps next time you could come back as someone who's actually worth fighting?"

She would not flinch. To flinch now would be the worst mistake, the biggest shame she could ever bring to the name given at birth by her beloved mother. Instead a grim smile etched itself into Black Lady's face and bored eyes were turned to her attacker. The only movement she allowed herself to alleviate the pain and anger raging inside her head and threatening to spill out every pore was fingers tangling in the glimmering pink of her wrap, nails stretching the fabric near its tearing point. To Beryl, it would look only as if she were preparing to strike out physically, which was beneath the princess entirely.

"It must be nice, to discard whole chunks of history that displease you. I wish I had the skill myself, to eliminate such distasteful things. As it is, I remember that it was Serenity who killed you last you met. And oh yes, I've changed." The smile twisted and turned onto the sorceress from Earth. "Your power is flawed, Beryl. Flawed and broken, if you do not recognize what stands in front of you." A pale finger reached up to the wound that had been inflicted at the hands of the dark queen and rubbed it on her fingers before holding them up to be seen. "You claimed to love Endymion so much, yet when his own blood spills in front of you, you don't recognize it. And I'm the stupid one? Ironic." It was a confusing speech, changing tenses and making cryptic remarks to a long-dead prince that meant so very much to both women standing warily opposite each other.

The unbloodied hand came down slowly and grasped the hand of her weapon, though the face was as yet turned inwards towards its wielder. Smiling to it almost childishly, blood smeared itself into the black crescent adorning its face in the center scrolling causing an eerie light to shine briefly before dying. "So you simply came to kill me? I told him you Negatrash weren't worth spit when it came to any truce. How sad that I was right." It was truly distressing, to know that for once the Wiseman had been wrong and she had been right. Well, she had warned him! Almost as an afterthought, a hand came up to linger on the brooch at her throat before dropping. No. If she was going to survive in this world, she would do it on her own power!

Her face grew dark at that, the Princess's words slowly sinking in. The pieces were falling together, the clues lining up with one other. It had been twenty years since D-Day, twenty years since she'd last seen any trace of Serenity or any trace of him. The girl standing before her didn't look a day over twenty. Could she be...? Was it even possible?

"No."

Her face remained unchanged but her voice gave away her feelings. "Endymion has no child. The Earth no longer has a Prince - it has a Queen and she rules it alone. I will purge the Moon Kingdom from my world, from my Earth."

She didn't know who the 'him' was that Serenity referred to. It didn't matter. Her hands had already raised themselves and a dark energy beam shot forward - unlike the other Chaos Seed in Destiny City, Beryl was not one for pre-fight chat or banter, heading straight into business.

Prepared for the attack, Black Lady blinked out, teleporting to the other side of the observation deck. The dark energy ripped through the metal railing where the Moon Princess once stood and Beryl turned, following the energy aura as it moved. The younger woman had already lifted her own mirror, sending her own dark beam back towards the Queen and hitting her directly on the shoulder. The beam would have taken down a newly awakened senshi but Beryl remained where she stood, responding with another attack of her own as she ignored the lingering sting of burning skin.

Back and forth, the women exchanged attacks, teleporting around and across the deck to avoid each others' blows. The deadly game of tag moved on to the streets of Destiny City as Black Lady teleported to the sidewalk, Beryl quickly following after. Missed strikes hit cars, store windows, the pavement. Alarms were going off as quickly as the beams were being tossed, the once silent night erupting into chaos.

Neither had any interest in what was going on around them. Beryl had taken hits to her side and face, a beam brushing her cheek as it kissed her skin with its burning touch. Her opposition had been hit several times more, but continued to fight back with a determination that would have made her mother proud. Yet, as hard as she fought, Black Lady's power was not on par with the Negaverse Queen's and as the police arrived on the scene, Black Lady made the fatal error of glancing to the side. Darkness smashed into her chest, sending her flying backwards and, ready for the reaction, Beryl teleported behind her.

Catching the girl's wrists with her strong grip, she leaned in. "I think we could do without an audience for this fight."

In an instant, they were in the subspace, Black Lady finding herself tossed forward, the cat obviously interested in playing a little while longer with its mouse before killing it. As she drew closer, heels clicking against the stone ground beneath them, the sound of Beryl's laughter echoed throughout the chamber.

Stopping a few feet in front of the girl, her laughter subsided and turned into a smug smile. "I was wrong. You must be the daughter of Serenity because you're as pathetic as she was. It's unfortunate that you don't have Endymion to save you this time, as she had for her."

Pain burned through her chest and with every ragged breath it only fanned higher and higher. It wasn't hard to breathe though, simply strained from the shot of dark power straight through her lungs and harbored there to hamper and torture. There was no wet gurgle that indicated internal bleeding, and for that she was grateful. Modern hospitals would have a hard time indeed healing this child in a woman's body, granted by magic, born far in the future. Drawing in a burning breath, the young woman straightened her back and vanished her weapon with immense pride. There was no business fighting in the queen's own territory, not if she couldn't truly even hold her own on the neutral streets of the city. If only she had her crystal power! But that was not an option, and not worth any consideration.

"Daughter of Serenity, but also daughter of Endymion and that is far more important. I don't need a prince to save me, I'm quite capable of handling myself, and I'm certainly not here to take over 'your' Earth." Well, she wasn't. Black Lady had never been entirely sure of Wiseman's goals or motives and thusly could not speak for her protector and mentor. It seemed fairly important to Beryl that she think herself a queen, and it was so laughably typical that she would have laughed, if only the pink-haired woman could find the breath for it. Coughing to try and alleviate some of the pressure, the hairstyle bobbed as she shook her head. "I hate the senshi, they don't belong here, they're all pretenders. They have to go."

This impassioned speech was unusual, but it was all she could do. The pain in her lungs was nothing compared to the one she felt with any thought or memory of her previous existence and the rage burned through her blood and turned onto a more convenient target than the Queen of the Negaverse. It was foolish to pick large targets, after all.

"You toss around his name as though it has any worth to me." The tone was bitter, the humor in her face fading quickly, "Your connection to that fool won't save you. He dug his own grave by betraying his people, by betraying his Queen and now he lies in that grave instead of ruling the Kingdom he abandoned."

She took another step forward, the other woman continuing to stand her ground. The Death Phantom's Lady knew when she'd been bested and had raised the figurative white flag by removing her weapon, but it seemed to have no effect on the dark Queen.

"It's rather a shame to hear you speak like that, Serenity. Had it been anyone else, I might have considered you for my army."

Her hand outstretched itself and took hold of the shorter girl's throat. Black Lady's hands reached up and immediately clasped around it, digging her nails into the pale skin in attempts to pry off the iron grasp. Beryl grimaced as ten small holes began to tear into her flesh but her focus remained on the girl struggling before her. Using her free hand, she shoved it within the teenager's chest, past the risque top, past the scorched skin and deep into her chest cavity. The girl let out a sharp gasp as the Queen gripped around the star seed, awaiting that inevitable moment when her life would be ripped out from within her.

But that moment never came. The expression on Beryl changed almost instantly as she held tightly to the essence of the daughter of the Moon. She was puzzled. She was intrigued.

"What does he want you for?"

The grip was released on both her star seed and throat, Serenity's hands letting go of Beryl's arm as the Queen moved to step away. She picked away at the skin now buried underneath her fingernails as Beryl paced back and forth, finally moving towards her throne. She was silent as she seated herself, her mind obviously deep in thought.

It was clear that this girl was no threat to her but instead merely a pawn in another man's game. But who had any reason to corrupt the Moon Princess? What use would this pitiful being have to anyone, much less a Chaos Seed? The crystal was equally as useless as its bearer. That beautiful, powerful crystal that she'd sought after for so long, even died trying to obtain for her own use. It was mutated, weak, and little more than a simple, pretty stone. Its power was nothing compared to that which Sailor Moon had used against her, this was barely a sliver in comparison. So why would this new possible rival want anything to do with Serenity?

"What is he using you for?" Her voice was flat, her eyes focused. "You're worthless. Your power isn't even your own - it's borrowed. So why did he bother corrupting you?"

Met with silence, she continued, studying the girl's face. "You say you're not here to take Earth, you say you hate the senshi. So why are you here to begin with? Why aren't you on the Moon, where you belong?"

There had been a moment, a very long moment, when she'd almost done the unthinkable and tried to actually reach the sealed power of her crystal, sleeping deep inside the corrupted body. But doing that was not only futile, it would destroy all the carefully-laid plans Black Lady had for her future. Certainly none of them involved her ever using that moon power ever again. She didn't know what would happen if she did, and Wiseman would be furious. So let this savage queen think her weak if need be, all that mattered was that one person knew her true power. One person appreciated her. Wiseman loved her, though he wouldn't ever tell her. It was clinging to this thought that she laughed hoarsely, bitterly.

"Who wouldn't want a Moon Princess? We're valuable, even weakened. You say one of my names to the senshi, and they spend weeks chasing their tail, asking me over and over if I'm their damn princess." The malice was evident and hate radiated out of her every pore. "They can't even recognize the true Moon Princess from a false one, not a one of them senses that I am virtually powerless!" Her voice was frenzied now, almost crazy in its maniacal rant. "Have you been to the moon, Beryl? There's nothing there. Nothing but ruins and the remnants of a long-dead queen who certainly would never welcome me! My name now is Black Lady, and I belong to the Wiseman for whatever use he has of me. If you want to know, ask him." Lightly her fingers touched the pendant at her neck, her mind all but ready to jump and call the name that would undoubtedly summon him to her side in an instant. But not yet.

"All I know is what I want, and what I want, is to find out what happened. I don't want to rule anything, I just want to know who has been reborn. And when I find them, I will eliminate them." Murder glinted in the eyes of the once-gentle Princess of Crystal Tokyo and she laughed almost desperately. "Would you object to this, O Queen? I have a hard time believing even you would turn down even a weak help. Unless you'd like for them to be reborn? I can perhaps oblige for a time." Only a time. Time was all she ever had, it seemed. Past, future, present, all tangled together in a web that was unraveling faster and faster and sending her spiraling into screaming insanity.

She said nothing at first, choosing to simply stare at her from atop her dark throne as the young woman was forced to stand and watch.

Eventually, the monarch found her words. "I have no need for outside help. Killing you, however, would be nothing more than a waste of my energy. You are no threat to my Kingdom."

Silence fell upon them again, neither woman moving from her place. Black Lady said nothing, the Queen of the Negaverse obviously still contemplating her fate as she sat before her on the throne.

Finally, a decision was made.

"We'll see how many senshi you are able to kill, Serenity, before you are destroyed by your own kind." A pause, then a smirk. "That is, if your precious Wiseman doesn't kill you first."

She didn't allow time for the other to respond. Beryl was finished with this pitiful excuse for an enemy, a girl so weak there was nothing left to be intrigued over. Wiseman, yes, but Serenity was no more than a pathetic vessel for another man's game. She could investigate this new Chaos Seed without the interference of this pink-haired twit.

"Get out of my sight."

With a wave of her hand, the teenager was dismissed, the insane princess of the future moon once again released into the world to wreak whatever havoc Wiseman had in store for her.
