William had just left the graveyard shift's guard duty, and he was...well, tired. The red haired man was on his way back to his own quarters to get some sleep.
Lifting his visor a little to rub at his forehead, the man signed and lowered them once more.
Walking the halls, he seemed to be practically dragging his feet the entire way. He was quite ready to crash for the next several hours.

Early morning was always a good time for Damon. There weren't very many people up at this hour, and the ones that were up were always too caught up in their own business to take any notice of him. It was an ideal situation for him, even if he was here for some in-field training scheduled in four hours. (He'd been told to use the free time to rest and prepare for the training.)
Of course, it was a bit difficult to do either of those when you were unfamiliar with the outpost and your guide had left to do his own thing half an hour ago. While Damon was sure the fairly nondescript Rocket had given him directions to where he was supposed to go, he hadn't really understood them between the unfamiliar points of reference and the Grunt's accent. Which had led to him wandering down a hallway with no clue where he'd come from or where he'd already been, just hoping he'd run into someone who was familiar with this outpost.

Practically a human zombie, William continued down the corridor. Not really paying much attention to who he was passing and thus going right past Damon.

For a second, Damon didn't notice the Rocket who passed him. He was sufficiently lost, and the other man was very nearly comatose on his feet. If it weren't for that shock of bright red (nearly pink) hair, the Grunt would have missed him completely. But the other man had been spotted, and judging by that purposeful stride, he knew his way around. So Damon turned abruptly on his heel and walked after the other, doing his best to catch up.
"Excuse me!"
Wait. That sounded too polite. He was supposed to be a Rocket... Did Rockets even use manners with those the same rank as them?

"Hm?"
That seemed to get William's attention as he stopped and turned halfway around to look behind him at Damon.
That had surprised him as well, although you couldn't really due to the visor. Usually he was addressed as 'Hey you!' rather than with politeness.

Damn. He'd heard. And it was probably too late to salvage his bad a** Rocket image, at least not without looking like a complete moron...
"Do you know where the R&R area is? I got sent here for some in-field training later today, and my guide's directions weren't really... Easily understandable."

"Uh... yeah." William replied, seemingly trying to conjure up directions in his muddled thoughts.
He pointed down the hallway in the direction he was going. "Just keep going this direction and take the second left. That will lead you to the elevators. You'll want the second floor and take a right when you get off. Then a left three hallway down and then an immediate left... or is it a right?"
William paused as he thought about it. "I think that it is left."

Damon had to resist the urge to throw his arms up in utter joy. Finally, someone competent at giving directions! Although that last turn made him wince slightly. At least it was far enough that he might bump into someone else on the way he could double check with...
"So it looks like we're headed the same way," he remarked absently, nodding his head towards William's direction in thanks. "I don't suppose you'd mind too horribly if I joined you, would you?"

William paused for a moment at that question, but he soon responded.
"Not at all."
With that, he continued walking, again a bit surprised. After all, it was true that they were going the same direction. Even if they would part ways at some point.

Damon fell into step slightly behind William. There was silence for a long moment before he finally broke it.
"I'm Damon, by the way."
Not the best conversation starter ever, but it got the job done. And it was polite to introduce himself... Wait. Damn. There he went being polite again.

"Will" the grunt responded to Damon's introduction.
He looked over his shoulder at the other grunt to give him a look over once before looking back in front of him.
"Are you new?"

"Sort of. I've been around headquarters for a couple months, but this is my first time doing anything in field... Even if it's just a training session," Damon replied lightly, glancing towards William curiously. "Is it that obvious?"

William smirked and couldn't help a brief chuckle.
"Just a little. But that's all right. We're all new at some point or another. How are you liking it so far?"

Damon almost wanted to say he hated it. The urge to be blunt and honest about how this was against everything he stood for. But that urge passed quickly when he reminded himself that this man was a Rocket, and as a general rule Rockets were not pleasant people who would take well to an answer like that. So, he lied.
"It's not bad. The living conditions are cramped and the cafeteria food bites, but the money is decent."

William was quiet for a moment, before nodding his head in agreement.
"The pay is decent," he agreed.
"Honestly. You don't look much like the Rocket type. Why did you decide to join?"
