Antianeira was growing quickly and this pleased Penthesilea, the new queen of the pack. Not all that long ago the pack had been torn apart by infighting over the new leader as Marpe the old queen had not produced a blood heir. At the end of the fighting the pack had dispersed and Marpe had passed on her rite of caste to Penthesilea. Ever since then it had been Penthesilea's honor and duty to search the lands for her lost sisters and any others who she felt was worthy to join the new pack.
Padding through the forest Penthesilea was once again busying herself with that very task. She had already found several old members as well as a few new ones, but there was always room for more. So with her senses open to everything around her Penthesilea continued on, she would travel far today, as far as was needed to find more members to add to their ranks.

Fierceleaf was pleased with the new weather. She didn't like the cold n** of dead season at her paws, and finding food was even more difficult with the bugs nested safely away in their lairs. But eating bugs was more a form of catharsis than reliable food source. She had tussled over a worn deer carcass with a wild lynx, and won, so now her belly was full of good meat. All in all, the day was going extremely well.
Stretching, the limber female bolted suddenly through the reawakening forest, scattering dead leaves and bits of dirt in her wake. The bugs were still sleepy and more or less inactive, so her mind was free and clear, for now.
When the wind shifted directions, Fierceleaf halted so abruptly that she nearly went head over heels. It was one of them! A blood-shadow, smells like her, but strange. She had not yet decided whether the blood-shadows were a friendly race or not. She recognized her connection to them, thus the "blood" part of the name for them, but still they left her uneasy. She had no memory of herself or of others like her, and she did not understand why some part of her called out to these mysterious creatures.
Hesitantly, she stood, approaching the new smell at a relaxed lope. Today was a good Fierceleaf day, and she felt the wind strong against her face. She would have the advantage in battle today.
As she approached, she gathered what information she could about the stranger. It was a mothering creature, same as her. That put her slightly at ease, as the fathering ones smelled too different for comfort.
When the strange female came into view, Fierceleaf's gait faltered only slightly. She stopped a respectable distance from the she-wolf, and greeted her in a raspy, rarely used voice.
"Hail stranger. I am Fierceleaf. You are far from your blood-shadow lands. Why alone in a strange place? It isn't safe."
At that last bit, she grinned just a little. This stranger was a warrior! Excitement coursed through her veins. If it was a fight this blood-shadow was seeking, Fierceleaf would gladly answer the call! She hadn't met such an impressive opponent since well before the dead season had set in. Eying the beautiful feathers and scraps of leather the strange female wore, Fierceleaf felt a momentary pang of envy. If she defeated this blood-shadow female, perhaps she could take away a trophy or two....

Penthesilea came to a stop when the other came in to view. Good, a female, meant she didn’t need to argue the cons of the other gender with a stupid male once more. Though no sooner had the thought crossed her mind did the pale colored female speak and those words confused Penthesilea. Blood-shadow lands? Brow cocked slightly as she took in the female standing before her. “I think you have me condused with another.” She finally said after her inspection was done. “I am not from these blood-shadow lands you speak of.”
Her muscles were ready to fight though she gave no indication of this to the female and merely stood where she was. It had been not that long ago since Penthesilea last had a fight with another and that opponent had been defeated quite easily. Of course that one had not been as well muscled as the female who stood before her now, yet Penthesilea did not worry about the outcome of a fight that may not happen. This was a female and as such her equal until she was given a reason not to be. “This is no strange place, it is my home.” She told the female quite calmly. “I see no reason to that it would not be safe.

Fierceleaf was confused when the blood-shadow claimed to be...not from blood-shadow lands. Where else would one come from? Then again, perhaps this was not a blood-shadow, perhaps it was something different. It spoke intelligently, and seemed confident. It seemed...very real to Fierceleaf. Not so much a shadow as a living thing.
"You are not a blood-shadow."
She spoke uncertainly, tilting her head to one side. The female also said that this was its home. Was Fierceleaf trespassing? Hesitantly, she sat down, eying the female speculatively. She felt strangely calm under the creature's steady gaze.
"Who are you?" the pale gamma finally inquired. She was impressed with the bearing of this creature. It was very sure of itself, and almost noble in bearing. Not generally one to converse with strangers, Fierceleaf became more and more intrigued, despite herself. And she felt an odd sense of familiarity, like she had been in this situation before. Remembering nothing of her past, she had assumed she didn't have one. That she had always been this way. But something about the decorated female seemed to say otherwise.

Penthesilea let a small smile cross her maw, this female certainly wasn't your typical female - she seemed to have a couple of quirks about her. "I assure you I am not one of these blood-shadows that you speak of." Penthesilea was quite curious as to what a blood-shadow was but figured she could ask later one she gained this females trust.
"My name is Penthesilea. I am Queen of the Antianeira pack." Her eyes glanced about the area which was the edge of her packs lands. The dense forest that sat within and at the base of a small mountain. "This is the border of our land. Tell me, what is your name?"

"Fierceleaf is Fierceleaf," she replied at once, eyes guarded. This creature was from a pack of same creatures. And the female said it was a Queen. Fierceleaf knew enough to realize that this meant she was speaking to a leader that had control of many others like her. It was certainly not wise to fight a leader of many.
"Fierceleaf will leave if you wish her to," the gamma offered, slipping back into her third-person speech as she prepared to withdraw. At the best of times, she spoke like an almost normal wolf, but stressful situations tended to revert her back into the uneducated savage that had little use for fancy words.

Fierceleaf, that was certainly an odd name but Penthesilea wouldn't hold that against her. Though she really hadn't expected the other to turn and leave. There were some questions she wanted to ask first, important questions. "Wait." She called out to the other ensuring that she wasn't about to leave. "I wish to know about these blood-shadows you mentioned earlier. Could they be a threat to my pack?"
Penthesilea figured at the very least she could find out more about these mysterious things and perhaps ensure her pack was ready should they ever show up. There was also a chance that having someone like Fiercelaf in the pack could prove beneficial should those creatures attack, having one who knew their strengths and weaknesses could come in handy. But first she herself needed to know a bit more about them.
