Txuratan had no memories of a time before he and his siblings came to live with his father. He had been assured that such a time had happened, and he knew for a fact that cubs needed their mothers to survive at least their first few weeks, but he couldn't remember his mother, and could only guess at what she must have been like by filling in the blanks between how his father and siblings looked and assuming that anything which didn't obviously come from their father must be from their mother.

He didn't ask his father much about the time before they came to the pride, but that didn't mean he wasn't curious. He was perishingly curious. He loved his home and didn't mind that he knew no other and had no real basis of comparison, but he still wondered about his mother. Mothers were so important to the people of the pride, and he didn't have one. It was a quandary for the young lion. Particularly since there were so few people for him to ask about the matter.

He was lounging by the riverside, considering the matter and generally trying to stay out of everyone's way. He didn't have a craft or an apprenticeship, and so that seemed the best occupation for him. He couldn't wait until he was given something to study, however. Then he could really become a real part of the pride. Then he'd be able to prove that the fact he wasn't born into the pride didn't matter, and that he was every bit as devoted a member as those who had been part of the pride since birth.

"But what shall I do?" he mused. There were so many options.

User ImageAtan was currently enjoying a nice nap up in a tree, flecks of sun shining through the treetops to beat down on her cool colored coat. Like her brother, she didn't remember more then a blurry image of her mother. She was young enough last she saw her that the memory of her face was being replaced with her dad's. Her tail flickered a bit as a bird landed on it, then the bird landed on her ear as it twitched. Then it had to go and land on her face as the cub quickly sat up, shaking it off her. "Aaah! Can't a girl get some beauty sleep!?" she complained as she began to stretch out on the branch. Hmm...the sun seemed to have moved. She had a good long nap. Guess it was time to go see who she could get to give her food.

Jumping down from the tree, tail up in the air she happily pranced off to find some food to eat. She saw a familiar face not too far off as she grinned, walktzing up to her brother. "Hey there Txu! Got some food I can eat? I'm staaaarving!" she said, giving her brother a pelading look that said 'pleaeease get me food! It was no secret the cub was lazy, hopefully she would grow out of it however. She just wasn't one to exert effort unless she had to. It was such a hassle, when it was so much more fun to just nap!

The older lioness was getting used to the idea of not only being in charge of the pride but also taking over what was one her father's pride. She was still a little young but her and her mate were both leading the pride pretty well so far, it was a hard time getting everything brought together but they were getting there slowly but surely. But there was no way that the power was getting to the lioness's head that was for sure! She was living like all of the other lions even when it came down to getting lunch. But something caught her ear, the sound of a cub, she loved cubs! Talking with them was something that she always enjoyed some times playing with them was fun too!

She looked at the cubs thinking a bit, the only ones that she could really think of that were around were the ones from that one male... she was still getting used to names! She knew one thing for sure they were cute and she wanted to get to know them a little more, she was worried a little bit about all of the new rogues in the pride but she knew one thing for sure that new blood was always good!

She looked down at her paws at the rabbit that was laying limp at her feet, she chuckled slightly before picking it up in her jaw and wandering over to the pair, a smile growing on her face. "Well Hello there little ones!" Her voice was slightly muffled by the rabbit hanging loosly from her mouth. She dropped it then smiled slightly. "You can have it little ones I'm not that hungry." she looked at the two a few times before smiling softly. "What are are you two up to? Where are your parents?" she asked cheerfully as she looked around she was still getting used to the rogues in the pride she couldn't wait to see some more babies start to pop up.

Txur looked over at his sister hastily, wondering what had prompted her to come in search of him. In his fairly limited experience, Atan did not do a lot of searching and hunting for people on her own. Not if there was someone else around that she could convince to do it for her. He was too young to find fault with her for this trait, but he did think it odd that their names could be so similar and they could have the same parents and yet be such very different people.

"I'm afraid not," Txur answered his sister. "But I would share if I had any."

Perhaps he shouldn't indulge her by allowing her to do that sort of thing, but they were both young, and he didn't mind. She was his sister, and he liked being able to help her. He hoped it would make them closer if he helped her, and no one had told him he shouldn't do things for her if she asked him to. He would have said more, and possibly asked how she could be hungry so soon after their last meal, but then another, older lioness arrived and generously offered to share her prey.

"I see you, mother. Thank you," Txur said respectfully to the newcomer. He thought he recognized her, but he wasn't one hundred percent sure. It was easiest just to call her 'mother' until he knew how he ought to address her. He got the feeling she was someone important in the pride.

"I'm not hungry, but my sister, as you may have heard, is starving." He grinned. "And I was just enjoying the water. I don't think father will mind."

Atan frowned when her brother said he didn't have any food. Darn! She was hungry! Though, at their age they didn't do much hunting anyways. THey wouldn't learn to be good hunters until they were int heir teens after all. "But...i'm hungry..." she said as she lowered her ears and frowned. That meant she would actually have to work to get food. Greeat...

When the older female appeared however, the normally lazy Atan stood up and knelt her head before raising it again. "I see you Mother." she said with a smile as she wagged her tail, greeting the older lioness. Txur was easy enough for Atan to get to do things for her, but this female was offering food, and she was not about to turn it down. "I thank you for this kind gesture mother." she said as she lay down and began to eat the rabbit. Txur turned it down, so there was no need to offer to him. He could take some if he wanted.

Though she stopped when she heard the question fromt he older female. "I do not know where father is." responded Atan. "And our mother isn't here." she said. SHe didn't hold a grudge against her mother for leaving them, she she wasn't her favorite person.

The mother thing was something that Zelt'zin was still getting used to, sure she knew it was part of the culture but she also knew that it was something that sure was supposed to get used to but it was something that was a little odd to her, she wasn't a mother yet, but then again everyone was calling her that. She was still young and this name was something to be getting used to. She looked down at the little cubs and smiled slightly. "I see you." she returned in greeting before looking at the male cub. "Well! Feel free to join in anyway if you change your mind little one." She looked at the little female and shook her head. "You can't be staving little one, mother Ewya would never let one of her children starve. You are hungry." she corrected the cub she wanted the cubs in the pride to be thankful for what the goddess had given them.

"Ah the water is very cool around with time of day." She flopped back on her haunches and then smiled a small purr escaped her throat before turning back toward the little cub. "I'm sorry to hear about your mother young one." She shook her head, she hated to see the others with out their parents but then again she didn't have her parents, yet she knew that she was older, it was different when your mother wasn't around and you were young.

"So little ones." She said as she settled more on her haunches looking at the two cubs then smiling slightly. "Is there anything you two want to do by chance?" She asked curiously as she looked at them, she enjoyed spending time with cubs and seeing what their interests were, she was hoping that she oculd amuse them in some way or for that matter make them have a little fun.

"That is generous of you, mother," Txur said, but as he watched his sister eating with gusto he knew that even if he had been hungry, he wouldn't have chosen to partake. It wasn't that he was thinking of self-sacrifice or anything. He just wasn't hungry enough to deprive Atan of her pleasure.

Txur frowned, just a very little, producing a slight furrow between his eyes after Atan mentioned their mother and the grown-up said she was sorry to hear about her. He felt like she was getting the wrong idea. He was sorry, of course, that his mother wasn't a part of his life, but he didn't feel that he'd been robbed of her presence. He didn't want her tied down to a family or setting which wouldn't suit her, even though he didn't know her. He figured that she had loved him and his siblings enough to know they'd be better off with their father, and tried to be content with that.

"Our mother. She's not dead," he said. "It's not like that. She's just not here. Our father does well by us, and so do the pride's caretakers when he can't be with us."

He didn't want to get into an argument, but he felt that he had to speak up about that before anyone got the wrong idea and started thinking that his family's story was a tragic one. It was for that reason that he tried to keep his tone neutral and non-confrontational. He was just reporting the facts, ma'am. No need for anyone to get upset. And besides, the pride did have people to look after youths whose parents couldn't be with them every minute of every day, and he had no problem being in their care. They could teach him more about the pride's ways than his father could, anyway.

Txur would have liked to ask the older lion if she could swim, and if she'd be interested in teaching him to swim, since it seemed like a useful skill to have, but he doubted Atan would be interested in that kind of strenuous activity. He wanted to think of something they could all do together, and that all of them would enjoy. He couldn't really think of anything that would please his sister off the top of his head, though. He tended to think of her as being a sedentary creature, uninterested in any sort of motion or activity.

"I like to listen to stories," he said, thinking that might be something which would appeal to Atan. "Particularly ones about the pride. Do you know any?"
PostPosted: Sun Apr 04, 2010 8:12 pm

Atan's tail flickered back and fourth as she happily ate up the rabbit. Though when the older female mentioned she wasn't starving she frowned and looked up. "What's the difference? I feel a pain in my tummy. Is that not called starving?" she asked her. The cub was young enough that she was still learning what things meant, and how to decipher the difference between words with similar meanings.

Atan had turned to look at the water for a minute as she mentioned it, before licking her chops and getting back to devouring what was once a lively rabbit. she hadn't paid much attention at first when their mother was mentioned as an 'im sorry', and it wasn't until Txur mentioned it that Atan joined in. "She's in another pride. Papa brought us here when he joined." but they were young enough at the time that life outside the pride was starting to blur into a distant memory. After all, when you are little memories aren't as solidified as when you are older.

What to do hmm? Atan was very happy just eating the rabbit. But what else was there to do? She hadn't yet chosen what job she might take part it when she got older, maybe she should learn to be less lazy...but napping was so fun! But she did have to admit that Txur's suggestion was a nice one. "Oh yes! It would be nice to hear more about the pride!" she said with a smile. Plus, she wouldn't have to move and leave this delicious rabbit! Atan thought as she chewed on the rabbit some more. While she probably wouldn't have minded swimming as she did have the energy of a cub, Stories were fun and Atan loved to hear them.

"Be careful of your words little one." She told the little lioness rubbing the little lioness's head carefully. "Some might count that question as disrespectful." She then leaned over to whisper to the little cub."and there are some old grumpies around here you should watch out for." She sat back and winked at the cub and then flicked her hair out of her eyes. "You're not starting little one until you are as skinny as that branch." She pointed at a tree then laughed a little bit. "Well maybe not the branch." She laughed slightly before grinning at the cub again. "If you can see your rips you are starving. Right now you are just hungry." She laughed slightly before she turned her attention back toward the little. "It is not problem little one!" She nudged him with a smile on her face.

"Ah I did not know that." She admitted to the idea that the cub's mother still alive, she wasn't used to the idea that the cubs were being raised with out a mother, she hoped that the cubs got some extra attention from the females from the pride. She flicked her hair out of the eyes before sighing slightly.

"Stories of the pride?" She asked curiously as she glanced down at the cubs before looking up at the sky, she had a lot of stories from when she was little. She was also told many stories growing up, she knew a lot about the pride she knew many things, but she had to figure out a story that she could tell the cubs that was interesting and they also might be able to use in one way or another Maybe she could ask them? She looked at the cubs and grinned sitting back a little more. "Well little ones, what kind of story would you want to hear?
PostPosted: Sun Apr 11, 2010 5:27 pm

Txur listened to the older lioness correct his sister and debated whether he should chime in and come to his sister's defense. After all, she was his sister, and he knew she didn't mean to be disrespectful. However, it seemed that the lioness knew perfectly well that Atan wasn't trying to be rude. By leaning in a little he could even hear her whispered warning that there were some old grumpies around to watch out for. Txur had yet to meet them, but he believed they could exist. He hoped when he met them that they'd like him.

When Atan added clarification to his explanation and the lioness acknowledged it, Txur nodded. Some days he wondered which pride their mother belonged to, and if he would someday meet her, but dismissed it as an impossibility. He didn't want to leave his home, ever. He loved it here. His family was here, all except his mother, and he would rather be with them, he thought. Though maybe that would change when he was older. If he ever fell in love and found someone to marry, he would like his mother to meet her. His tail twitched. That was far in the future.

He grinned and did a little dance with his forepaws when Atan said she wanted to hear a story, too. He'd chosen well! That made him very happy and his serious thoughts about his mother and his future vanished from his mind completely. He was excited about the prospect of hearing more stories about his people. How delightful! He stilled his prancing paws with an effort, but his tail continued to twitch with uncontainable pleasure. He was a relatively active cub, but very few things made him happier than hearing stories about his family and the larger family he considered his pride to be.

"I don't know." There were so many options, but his growing fascination with mothers made his preference obvious. "Would you tell us about the last time Eywa came to us?"

Atan frowned as her ears folded back and her head lowered. "I am sorry Mother. I wont ask again..." said the little cub, looking very sad that she was just scolded when she didn't know she had some something bad. She still didn't understand why it was so bad that she asked that question..what was wrong with it? She just wasn't sure why it was bad. She raised her head though when the older lioness mentioned being skinny as a branch. Can you be that thin? Oh...I did not know that. said Atan in response. Seeing ribs hm? That must be really uncomfortable to be so skinny.

"It doesn't matter if our birth mother is here or not. We have the pride, and that means more to me then a mother I wont ever know." said Atan with a shrug of her shoulders. She had no feelings towards her birth mother. Negative, or positive. After all, how could she have feelings for someone she barely remembers? And the pride looked after them. Atan had many mothers who gave her lots of attention! And she had her daddy! So she was happy and content.

Atan listened as her mother asked for stories about Eywa. Eywa, the great mother. "Yes, I to would like to know more about her. Do you think we will meet her one day?" asked Atan as she smiled, laying down on her belly as she licked her lips from the meal she just had.

Zelt hated when it came down to her having to correct cubs, she remember what it was like being a cub and she was constantly corrected as a cub, but then against she was corrected a little more then the others around her, she was going to be the next queen of the pride and her father and mother wanted to make sure that she was near perfect and on top of that one of the perfect symbols for the pride. She smiled gently at the cubs before chuckling slightly. She flicked her tail around a few times before chuckling. "AH! No little one questions are allowed." She nudged her, she was feeling a little bad. "I hate to look like a big meanie but I just want to make sure you don't get in trouble with anyone else in the pride."

She chuckled slightly before a smirk grew on her lips. "Well if you think about it you'll always have a mother. Mother Eywa always is with us even if it is just in our hearts." She grinned widely and nodded at the idea. The days that her mother and father was around she still was comforted by the idea.

And speaking of mother Eywa it was the perfect topic for a story, she remembered the last time the Goddess was around. "I remember the last time she was around like it was yesterday." She chuckled slightly thinking back. "The last time she was around was when I was a little younger, I was a teenager and my mother brought me with her for her normal meeting with Ewya. It was right before the fights started..." Her voice trailed for a moment before she shrugged it off and went back to what she was talking about before. "I remember her being a friendly and beautiful Goddess." A large smile grew on her face before she started speaking again. "She treated me like a normal lion and she treated everyone like one of her own children." She chuckled slightly before smiling at the small cubs and nodding. "I'm more then sure that you guys will meet her."

She flicked her hair out of her eyes once more as she sat back a little more on her haunches before nodding. "When you first meet her you'll probably be a little nervous but she will make you feel better." She chuckled sligthly before looking at the sky for a moment. "She'll be coming back, I can feel it. She can hear our prayers and as long as we keep talking to her I know she'll be back."

Txur's eyes half closed with pleasure, listening to Zelt'zin talk about her experiences meeting Mother Eywa. He liked to hear stories. He didn't miss the way she stumbled a little over the mention of fights. He didn't know what that was about, but he wasn't going to ask about it even though his curiosity had now been piqued. He would find out from someone else, he decided. It was clearly not a subject that Zelt'zin wanted to discuss.

"When will she come back, mother? I really do want to meet her," he said. "I'm not afraid to meet her at all. I know she'll be good and loving, because that's what mothers do."

He was positive that even his own mother had been good and loving, though she displayed it in different ways. As far as Txur was concerned, all mothers were good and loving. He felt fortunate that he really had two, counting the goddess and his real mother. And, like the older lioness said, the goddess was always with them, even if it was only in their hearts. But that didn't mean he didn't want to meet her someday.

"Should we pray for her to come back, or just wait?" he asked, voicing his thoughts aloud. He never really knew what to pray for except the continued good health and happiness of his family and the pride. It might be nice to have something to add to his prayers besides just that. He always finished praying so quickly, it felt a little awkward.

((so sorry about the wait!))

Atan would get over it, she just felt very….awkward when she was corrected. She didn’t like thinking that she was doing something that upset someone to the point where they were upset enough to correct her. She felt a little better though when she was told she could ask questions…but she still felt a little unsure. “Ah…um okay..” she said as she sat back down. “Yes, its nice to know that the great mother will always be there for us.” she said with a smile. Atan did respect and love the great mother very much. Of course, she was so young when she came to the pride its pretty much all she knows.

Atan sat with interest as she began to tell a story about Eywa. Listening intently to the story, Atan smiled, her tail wagging a bit as the elder female spoke. “I sure hope we get to meet her one day….” Atan asked suddenly after she finished. She wanted so badly to meet her but…wondered if being just a member of the pride meant she wouldn’t be able to. After all, she wasn’t really anyone of any importance in the pride. Atan looked up when the elder lioness did so, listening to what she said. “I…hope so. I want to meet her.” she said as she smiled. Was she erally coming back? That would be so neat!

Atan heard her brother’s questions…hmm…did they have something they should do to help encourage her to return? The purple and blue cub swayed her tail a bit as she wondered. She did want to meet her.. “Does…does Eywa meet with lowly nothing lions like us? I mean…we aren’t anyone important like you are. We are just typical members of the pride. Nothing special. Will she meet with ones like us?” she asked as she frowned. She wanted to know if it was even possible for them to ever meet, and speak with her.

Zelt'zin was glad to know that the two cubs were curious, she was always glad to know that the cubs were happy and understand and on top of that curious the pride and their mother. She flicked her hair out of her eyes and nodded as she looked up at the sky a smile growing larger on her face. "She will come back I can fell it in my bones. The trees have told me too." She nodded then she flicked wiggled her toes in the ground thinking at what the rest of the male cub said. All mothers were supposed to be loving, she really hoped so. She dind't know what it was like to be a mother herself. Not yet anyway, she didn't know what it was like and she was curious to know what it was like to be a mother... She really hoped she could be just as loving as they suggested.

She looked a little surprised about the female cub she flicked her tail around looking really confused. She chuckled and shook her head. "there is no such thing as lowly lions to her or any of us. She loves all of you." She then smiled. "In fact onceshe comes back the tradition of meeting her before adulthood is going to happen again. I'm more then sure you guys are going to mee her. She wants to meet all of us." She was sure of all of that sshe knew that mother Eywa loved all of them, thats what she was taught and even shown as a cub.

She then smiled at the next question. "Now then litlte one that all depends, you are free to pray for what you want, from the sky being beautifly blue the next day to your family. If you want to pray for mother Eywa she will hear those prayers, who knows she might come back to visit you because of that but she will come back either way."
