I've read a really good book called "the white ladder diaries" written by Ros Jay whose one of the 2 people who founded White Ladder Press.
It's a really honest but humourous account of the ups and downs of starting a new business (with particular emphasis on it being a publishing agency).
It deals with business plans, marketing, printing, PR and so many other things (including how much of a pain in the arse BT can be). They write about what they did wrong, as well as what they did right.
Does anyone know any other good books about the industry?

I've actually not done much reading about the industry; at least not books. I go to a lot of networking events and speakers' nights. Sorry, not helpful.
This seems to be a low-traffic subforum, though.

T.T
I'm open to suggestions on what to cover . ..
Oh, and it's kind of exciting; the book I helped publish has proof copies out now.

what book did you help publish?
hmm... maybe I'll start a few topics biggrin

It's called The Devil's Ruse. It's still a few months from being properly launched, but it exists on paper now, which is awesome.

Yep! Her site is bare and awful because she doesn't want to pay me for the time to make it better. She is a sweet old lady who teaches piano lessons.

Thank you. ^.^
I kind of just want to be able to get the purchasing aspects up there, since that'll be the most fun coding, but no, I have to wait . . .

Until she's decided to launch it. And pay me. I'm excited about the project, but not enough to do work on it until we've settled billing issues.

I'm not sure. It's a big step for her, and I think she's hesitating because it's really exciting.
Also because it's an expense and she has no idea how to market it and doesn't want to pay me to do it for her.
