Penthesilea was quite pleased. Each day it seemed there was another member to add to the packs ranks. Some of these were old members returning to their home or found wandering, others were new faces eager to live and die the Antianeira way. There was a good mix of wolves now, some warriors, some slaves, she also had an adviser and a personal guard. Though Penthsilea opted to travel without her guard most days, she had been without one for long enough that she felt that while out just beyond the packs border there would be no use to having one. Should something happen she would be able to handle it herself, or call for assistance if it got out of hand.
Today she was merely doing a border check. Sure one of the warriors could have done thing but Penthesilea couldn't just sit in her den all day when there were things that could be done. Besides all duties, no matter how small, were preformed by the Queen as well, not just left for the warriors to do. So Penthesilea took heart in her patrol duties though she traveled out past the border looking for any wanderers that may come their way or perhaps an animal to hunt.

Taiyou, a lone female wolf, was padding quietly through this new expanse of territory. She could scent a Pack's boundaries were close by, but she figured she could snag a rabbit or something small to eat before she was found. Her snowy white fur with yellow stripes stuck out starkly against the forest undergrowth. She'd always cursed her strange fur coloring, which had worked just fine in the colder climates of the North compared to this green and dark background here. In Winter she was fine, blending in with the snow for the most part. Her nose was constantly twitching as she tried to sense if anyone was coming near her.
A sudden movement caught her eye and she froze, pressing her belly against the ground. Lo and Behold! A rabbit! The creature's fluffy brown colored coat blended well against the dirt patch it was scuffling in, but her trained hunter's eye picked it out easily. She crouched and started to slink towards it, forgetting she was so close to a foreign pack's territory. Right now all she was focused on was this possible food source which would help to feed her empty belly. When she was close, the rabbit suddenly sat up, causing her to spring. With a sudden snarl she wrestled with it, expertly snapping it's neck. She looked pleased with herself as she licked her chops, cleaning some of the blood off her fur before staring back down at her catch.

A snarl not far off caught her attention and Penthesilea paused for a moment. Her highly trained ears didn't pick up any other signs of an imminent attack but even so she crouched down a bit in a stalking pose and moved towards the sounds. Even with her head lowered like this Penthesilea continued to carry herself high as per her position in the pack.
Eyes fell upon a white female with a splash of yellow on her fur. She seemed to be somewhat preoccupied by the rabbit sitting at her feet. Hunting so close to a packs lands wasn't always the wisest of decisions but Penthesilea had to give this wolf credit for doing just that. Had it been a male he would be run off without a second thought, but a female who didn't fear a pack may be of some use to her. Raising herself straight and tall Penthesilea took a few steps forward before stopping, revealing herself to the other wolf. "You have good hunting skills." She commented with a smile.

Taiyou jumped noticeably when she heard a voice suddenly speak from behind her. She whirled around, her fangs bared and her fur fluffed up around her. The way this wolf was carrying herself, from the height and the position of her tail, she could tell she must be of high rank. Oh deer pellets... She thinks to herself, scolding herself internally for not noticing this wolf's approach earlier. She made no move to hide the rabbit she'd killed, since it was obvious she'd killed it by the scent of blood in the air and the remaining drops of blood on her white coat. While it may not have been as noticeably on a darker wolf, it shown out like a beacon on her own. She raised her tail about midway, showing she recognized the other wolf's rank but wasn't going to back down. She knew in a situation like this it was best to be cautious. "Why...Thank you." She says slowly, her eyes trailing over this other she-wolf and trying to asses her battle prowess with her gaze.

Penthsilea could see the other was taking a good measure of herself in as she spoke. It didn't bother her that this lightly colored wolf seemed to be sizing her up, it was something a well trained warrior like herself was quite used to. Well the other seemed like a good build, could certainly hold her own in a battle if her skills matched that physique. "Are you from around here? I don't think I have ever seen you before." There was no point to introduce herself yet or tell the other wolf about the pack and the fact that she was practically along the border of it's land. If she proved herself then Penthesilea would make the other an offer.

Taiyou continues to warily watch this other wolf, a little interested in her accessories. In her previous Pack only the highest of the high could wear any accessories such as bone necklaces or piercings. She didn't relax even though the other female made no threatening moves towards her, but stayed her position and didn't move a muscle. "No. I am from far to the north of here." She says, unconsciously gathering herself up at this. She was proud of her lineage, even though she wasn't related to an Alpha in anyway, her bloodline had been well respected until it had been decimated. She still had a faint prickle of that pride left in her, but not much besides that.

Penthesilea quirked her brow at the female but made no move against her as she raised herself up a bit. "You are a long way from your home." She commented. Perhaps she had taken to wandering as so many pack wolves tended to do at one point in their lives. She had wandered for a time herself, but no because she felt the need to travel and get away, no it was necessary to restore her pack and as such that was what she had done and continued to do.
"This is the border of the Antianeira pack." She finally said after a long pause, though for the moment she refrained from saying her rank within the pack. She was still judging this wolf before her and in time she would reveal who she truly was.

"I am. But I no longer have a home there." Taiyou responds, bringing her head back a little. She still thought she had a pretty good guess as to what this female's rank was within her pack. She looked blank at the name Antianeira, having only very recently come to this area and hadn't had any time to gather information on them. "I see. I've never heard of them...But I'm still new here so..." She says, cocking her head slightly to one side. She looked curious about this pack, but didn't question directly about its affairs or happenings.

Penthesilea relaxed herself a bit, but not too much. A well trained warrior like herself would never completely let down their guard, even in the presence of a female. The look upon the others face made her decide then and there to explain about her pack and make this female an offer. “Antianeira is a pack very different from the rest. It is a sisterhood of sorts. We live out lives as a strong, well bonded pack who does not need a male to provide our meals or protection.” Explaining the ways of her pack was always one of those iffy subjects that Penthesilea both loved and hated. So many wolves were often offended by the ways she lived, while others respected them greatly for it.
“However, while we believe that we can live fulfilling lives without males at our sides we do know that there are times when they are needed.” She didn’t think she needed to explain what those times were to this female. “I am the Penthesilea, current Queen of Antianeira, and we are always looking for strong females to join our ranks.” She introduced herself to the other. “Tell me, what is your name?”

Taiyou listened very carefully as Penthesilea explained about her Pack and what it was about. She looked down at her paws for a moment, not answering right away as she mulled this over. It certainly sounded much different from her previous Pack, and sounded like it might be a refreshing change. Besides, she didn't want to spend her whole life as a loner now did she? Where was the fun in that? After a few silent moments of mulling it over she looked back up, her cyan colored eyes brighter looking. "My name is Taiyou. I'm pleased to meet you." She says, standing up more fully and letting her tail drop down some.

This female certainly seemed to be one of few words, that could mean she was either just a natural quiet wolf or could potentially be hiding something. "Tell me, why did you leave your old pack?" She asked curiously, though she was hoping that the answer would be a bit more than because the other wishes to roam for a bit. Had she been driven out, or did she no longer wish to live under the one who ruled her old pack. There were many questions Penthesilea wished to ask, but this single question would do for now.

Taiyou couldn't help but bristle at this, the mention of her old pack bringing up sore memories for the female wolf. She paused for a moment to consider before speaking. "My Pack...was disbanded. After my Alpha and a majority of the Pack was killed by a sea lion attack, the remaining squabbled over who should be leader. I decided that I didn't want to be a part of the feud and left." She said with a shrug, wondering briefly if this answer would be strange. "I was tired of the cold and wanted a change of pace." She says, flicking her tail slightly from side to side and wondering what Penthesilea thought of this.

Penthesilea nodded as the other explained the story behind leaving her pack. It was tragic for sure, but things like that happened on occasion. Look at her own pack, reduced to in fighting and then dispersed into the wind - only now was it being brought back on its feet. "If you are a hard worker then there may be a place for you in Antianeira." She offered to Taiyou. The other wolf wasn't exactly the picture of a warrior but that was something training could change and the pack did need more members. "That is if you wish to join another pack so soon after the loss of your previous one."

(Ack! Sorry for my late reply! RL got really hectic!)
Taiyou's ears p***k forward at this and she looks with interest at the other wolf. She considers for a moment, her eyes drifting off to glance at the scenery around her. She honestly wasn't doing much except wander around purposelessly, with no goal in mind except to eat occasionally and sleep. She flattens her ears and looks back at Penthesilea, nodding quietly. "Yes...A new pack I think would be just the thing for me. Being a loner is...not to my tastes." She says, averting her eyes to the ground respectively.

A smile crossed Penthesilea's maw. She had another warrior to add to her ranks, though it would take some training to get Taiyou up the pack standards, but surely the wolf would succeed at that. "Welcome to Antianeira sister." She told the other proudly. "Come then, let us head to your new home. It make take some time to adjust to our ways but I am sure you can do so." Turning Penthesilea began to pad off, carrying herself in her normal high stance. Today had been a good day.
