I enjoy listening to people's religious views, whether you believe in a higher power or not. So let me hear it =)

I usually enjoy listening to everyones thoughts on religion.
But I'm rather burnt out on the whole christianity thing.

I was raised on the christian religion.. went to church every sunday until I was .. oh.. I don't know.. maybe 13?

Started going again when I would visit my grandmother.

Now I don't go at all.. I just.. don't agree with some of the things that were being preached.

I didn't appreciate it either. I'm tired of having people try and convert me. If I wanted to go back then I would go on my own.

My little sister went and choose to be jewish. No one really believes her... but if she enjoys it then thats good enough for me and my mom.

I suppose that I should also contribute to this one for the OP's research.
I believe that seeking out, locating, and unearthing deep and profound truths in life are a key part of the human experience. For those who choose to forgo this part of their existence, there is religion. This is, more or less, a process of being willingly spoon-fed things that you are meant to accept as unquestionable truths, despite no offer of any proof, whatsoever. I think Chairman Mao said it best: "Religion is poison."
There is much, much (oh so very much) more that I have to say on the topic, but it goes beyond the scope of this thread. I'll answer any questions, but that's enough for my monologue.

Religion is a powerful snake. Using the Bible's own dogma. The serpent is the devil; therefore, Religion itself is related to their force of evil. Spirituality is individualistic. I believe no human needs to have a group to be able to believe in what they find is right. The three biggest religions in the world (Christianity, Muslim, and Jewish faith) All follow THE SAME EXACT DEITY!!! Why they waste time picking fights over their individual pieces of literature is beyond me.

As Batou from Anime Pulse said: "Religious views are like a bunch of very young kids on a playground bickering about who's imaginary friend is better. They just stand there and keep trying to one-up another" (that might not be totally accurate, but you get the gist)

Hm...my views on religion. I really don't have much to say about it. I don't believe in a god of any sort...I mean, I accept that there's a possibility, but don't really believe in the idea. I don't really know why not, I just...don't. I guess I just believe in...life? Stuff that happens to me every day, or just that I really know about...yeah. Anyway. Religion. I...don't really like it, organized religion is kind of...annoying. I don't believe in any of it, but I feel like everyone's entitled to their own beliefs, to an extent. If you want to believe that there's some higher being out there, go for it. Just...don't try to convince me, tell me that I'm wrong for not believing, or treat it as fact. That's just not on. Those people...really annoy me. x.x

I, personally, agree with Shaymer. However, my understanding of his statement only counts towards the three monotheistic religions.

To further add to it, however, I find that any religion can be a serious hindrance to anyone's spiritual growth (if that's something they want). Religion is, more often than not, a way to shepherd a lot of people (billions in the case of Christianity/Catholicism, Islam and Judaism) down the same path to "salvation" or whatever they refer to as "spiritual enlightenment."

Some encourage people to pave their own path, which, as far as I know, is virtually every paganistic religion. While they are organized, they are primarily small, communal organizations- unlike, say, the First Assembly of God or the Catholic Church.

Personally, though, while I have tried my hand at a few of them, none of them really seem to "fit the bill," so to speak, and the more I get to know people in different ones, the more I realize how alike these individuals are in their stubbornness to prove that they are right and all other religions are wrong (and yes, I realize that they are typically the ones that cause all religions to get knocked on and are usually not in the majority of practitioners). One such person is a Heathen I met while living in Rockford. He's a truly interesting character, but the better I got to know him, the more I realized that he's just as bad as all of the bible-thumpers. He's stubborn in his beliefs (which is not necessarily a bad thing), but he's also adamant that all forms of monotheism are bullshit excuses for religion and the followers are retarded for believing in such oppressive cultures- only to fall under the same category as judgmental as close-minded Christians. He's even gone so far as to insulting Christianity and Mormonism in front of my sister, who he knows is Mormon, not even caring that he might be offending her.

It's because of people like him that I have decided that it is time for me to not associate myself with any religion, instead speaking out of my personal, experienced-formed beliefs and use them to help people as much as I can. My own philosophy is, I feel, not followed the same way by anyone else, just as I feel it should be. I would rather encourage people to follow their own path rather than to tell them that "my way is right," even if their path is Atheism rather than Agnostic, Monotheistic, Paganistic, or what-have-you.

I've made my path. You make your own.

Has anyone looked into esketology? Me da is one and it seems to be about enlightenment through understanding and they get to follow their own path. It's all about believing things. What you believe is what is true to you but may not be true to others and things such as that. I haven't really gotten very far with the study so I really can't say for sure though their system of belief fits my ideas.

They are all very interesting views, thank you for sharing them with me.
I do think Christians tend to push it to much. Personally, makes me angry the way most of them try shoving it in your face and acting all holy, but aren't. I am more of a quiet person so I dare not think to do that to anyone O.O And yes, I am a Christian and proud, but alot of the Christian people are making everything go downhill. I understand how they want everyone to believe what they believe because they are afraid of anyone ever stepping foot in hell.
I don't think I would be near God if it wasn't for the experience speaking in tongues that he gave me. It is so confusing and awesome, but I know it was God leading me to it. I was just praising him, then suddenly I started speaking another language. That isn't possible in my book without a higher power.
And thank you again for sharing those to me. it meant alot and now I understand other peoples views a little better. ^_^

You are most welcome. I find that these kinds of discussions help us all grow slightly by viewing something from anothers perspective.

I'd say I'm a mix of Lutheran, Wicca and Shinto. Wierd mix, I know. But all three or bits of all three speak to me on a deep level. The Lutheran was sort of drilled into me by 9 straight years of religious education at school, and the others more discovered through reading up on other "pagan" faiths.

I think the term is agnostic. Take your time in finding what fits you. Don't worry about what some of the sheep say.

Maybe being agnostic (if that is, in fact, what he is) suits him just fine. The idea that an agnostic is just a temporary, transitory phase, when one just happens to be between two religions is a horrible and odious view. When you are an agnostic, however long it is, you are never being more honest with yourself about universal truths. You are admitting that you don't know the truth about whether or not there is a deity of any sort governing the world... Well of course not. No one does. Unfortunately, most people just aren't strong enough to admit it... Not for long, anyway.

I am an agnostic. I don't really know that there is a deity out there but I also believe that every religion has the potential of being correct and their deity does in fact exist. I have yet to see any evidence of DI or of their existence but meh. One can not have everything.
