It was hatching.

Okay, that was actually a more of a past tense statement to keep repeating in her head, Tie's hands now full with bloody meat and an almost equally bloody and screaming flitter. She'd been on her way back to her barracks from the kitchen with the egg in tow, her body heat being used to keep it warm much in the same way she warmed Skybox's, when against her hip she felt heavy vibrations. The green that had been with her on her shoulder gave off a faint hum of hatching, her eyes whirling green with happiness over the new arrival.

Of course, the moment the hatching flitt had actually emerged from its shell all emotions of joy were gone and quickly replaced with frantic feeding. The meal that Tie had gotten for Skybox went down the little black's throat as fast as she could shove it (without choking) and soon she was reduced to running back and trying to beg for more. She was given what she needed, a relative happening to be on slaughter duty that day, and now the young herder sat herself out on the beach with no one around save for herself and her green (and a screaming black).

". . . . . "

Tiepet honestly didn't know what to do. Atypical flitts were rare, creatures she had only seen one or two of in a very long time, yet now she held one freshly Impressed. It would look only to her, she could already feel its devotion, but now what? She had no idea how to raise this, since she figured the process would be much more different then it had been with her Green. Skybox had practically taken care of herself after all, seeing as Tie spent a good part of their first turn together shirking away from anything and everything.

"Now what?"

It was almost a plaintive cry out into the empty sea, though she kept her tone steady! She would have to be strong!

With Amon on one shoulder and Amarth on the other, Therion was carting water to fill the beast-troughs; it wasn't the chore he'd been given by the Candidate-master (damn his black soul for assigning him the kitchen!) - but one he was much better suited for. Being large of frame and long of limb made physical labors like filling troughs, mucking stalls and various other heavy work fairly easy.

On the way up with a yoke and two heavy buckets, the two chittering flits on his shoulders stopped yapping for a few moments and instead turned their heads to face another direction; they seemed to listen a moment before screeching like banshees. Amon flung himself from Therion's shoulder, nearly causing him to fall over, and Amarth stretched his wings like he wanted to do the same (he couldn't, not just yet).

"Get back here, you useless reptile!" Dark blue eyes narrowed as the silver flit darted off toward the ear-splitting sounds. He could do nothing but follow, since Amarth was beating his head with those leathery wings...imagine his surprise when his silver dragon led him to a pretty girl with a screaming black flit and a worried looking green. He recognized the girl only vaguely - she'd been there when he'd gotten his egg, hadn't she? Yes...one of the three...so that baby black screaming it's fool head off was related to Amarth.

"Ho there, sounds like you got one with some lung-power." Therion glared over at Amon; the silver flit mostly ignoring him and making lazy circles over the bloody trio. "Get your scaly butt back over here or so help me--" Amon did a lazy flip and then landed near Tie and the other flits, head cocked curiously; he totally ignored when his 'master' set the buckets down. "He giving you some trouble?" Understatement of the year.

If Tie wasn't sitting down on the sand she more then likely would be halfway across the beach by now, her legs carrying her quickly from the shock of a firelizard appearing before her and the voice of a man ringing in her ears. Only moments before she had been left alone and quite enjoying the quiet that had come with her flitter's shrieking dying down. It had started up again though with the appearance of a beautiful silver, and Tie had to bite her tongue in order not to cry out herself.

Skybox hissed on her shoulder at the sudden interruption but did not dart between, her eyes having moved from the worried yellow to a more orange-red. She was willing to defend Tie if needed, but a Green wasn't much against a Silver - even that the small flitter knew.

Taking a deep breath, the small herder turned and looked up, wiping her face with the back of her hand as to hide the proof she may or may not have been crying. Instead of tear streaks she now had a wide swath of blood on her face, but it didn't seem to faze her in the least.

"I...I ....I know I im-imprpressed him soso he won't ru-run off, but I...I can't get his cries to st-stop."

A slight hiccup.

"E-e-even Skybox can't get him to s-s-stop."

Because he was being hissed at by the green flit - and because he couldn't remember the girl's name - Therion kept a little bit od distance between them. Amon, however...would not. He was creeping ever closer, curious about these other flits. New friends...or new foes - he, the amazing silver of amazingness, would find out! (Only Amon could have such a puffed-up ego for a lizard).

"Sorry, he's a scatterbrain, but he means well." Oh crap, she was crying. When Tiepet turned, her face was streaked with blood and some tears and her eyes reddened and puffy. Crying females...one major weakspot in his 'armor'. Therion just could not abide by a female in tears. Ever. It made him go a big rubbery one. On his shoulder, Amarth craned it's pert little head at a sibling that was howling still. "Hey now, no need for that...here, you've got some blood on your face from the feeding." He reached into a pocket sewn into his tunic and pulled out a handkerchief, offering it to the obviously distraught girl.

"The Atypes are a little tricky...you fed him, did you give him water?" Or sing to him or rub his whole body with oil -- just like with their larger cousins, the flits really liked to have their scales oiled, it was pleasant and relaxing. It was one of the ways he'd gotten Amarth to behave. "I had to rub oil into this one's worthless hide...it felt like forever..." Really, he was searching at straws; though he had raised one and was about to raise another atypical flit...her tears confounded him and made him feel desperate and stupid.

Happened every time. Dammit.

Tiepet smiled gently when she was offered the handkerchief, taking care not to get it too dirty. She merely dabbed her eyes a few times before pulling it away to look, almost horrified that there was blood all over it. She'd somehow forgotten that her hands were bloody as well, probably distracted because of being startled, and even though she hadn't wanted to ruin the cloth she'd done it anyway. Oh well, it was probably in her best interest to wash and return it, right? She figured it was the least she could do now.

And oh! Oiling? She hadn't had to oil Skybox, the green hadn't needed anything. But then again these flitts were different, right? They needed more love and devotion to survive, so perhaps. . .

"No..I...I hadn't oiled him. I. . . with Skybox I didn't do much, so I...I'm not used to caring for anything that isn't cattle. I...I'm sorry."

Tie sounded like she had just caused someone's death rather than just not oiling a flitt because she didn't know. She wasn't going to cry again, she'd calmed down past that point and was now filled with mild loathing. She would have to hurry and oil him...but with what? She didn't have oil or anything like that!

"I...I guess I need to fi-find oil then. I.. . .I don't have anything."

The girl seemed kind of upset with herself that the square of cloth was now streaked with drying blood as well as tears; Ther waved his hand a little bit and shrugged. "It's supposed to get messy, 's what it's for." He was being as gentle as he could, verbally - obviously she felt as lost as he had when he'd first gotten Amon (and that had not been fun. At all. He remembered).

"Yeah, it's not like they need it done as much as dragonettes do, but it seems to relax 'em and help." He shrugged a little bit and reached up to scratch at Amarth's chin. "You're doing fine, I'm amazed Amon survived me raising him. But if he made it with me, yours will be fine with you." Therion gave a little shrug, causing Amarth to hiss at him irritably. "Hey, now that I can help you with. I got really friendly with the guys in the storeroom when I was running errands for the Candidate-master...and when this guy was howling at me like yours is now. He gave me plenty for this little jerk." The blond chuckled and straightened fully before offering Tie a hand. "C'mon, I've still got some in my bunk. Oh, by the way, the name's Therion. What's yours?"

"Tie....my name is Tie."

Tiepet politely moved to her own feet, showing off her rather muddy (and bloody) hands as a reason for not taking the one extended to her. She also was using both to keep the black flitter held close to her chest, and once she was probably on her feet the green flitter called Skybox came and landed on her shoulder, chirping down to the little creature that was mewling softly. It was well full of food, it only needed a little oiling now, and thankfully this kind person was going to help them out.

Now that Tie was on her feet, her small height and clear state of being filthy was more apparent. She was streaked here and there with blood from the meal, as well as whatever had come from the eggs when they hatched, and pockets of dried mud clung on her legs all the way up to right where her trousers ended. Her elbows were dirty, her ankles dirty, but at least her face and hair was clean.

"I....if you dddon't mind bebebeing seen with meme, I'll go with you. People ten..tend not to want to come around me, I do..."

Well, she really didn't know why. Her smell, perhaps? She never thought she smelt any worse than her relatives who tended the pens, but who knew?

"Nice to meet you, Tie." Ther didn't take her rejection of his hand personally - especially not with her hands all mucked up like they were. Amon and Amarth clacked and watched Tie and her two flits curiously from their higher vantage point - all three looked like toys to them! New person, new flits - new fun! Well, new fun when the little black creature wasn't so annoyed...not fun to play with angry flits, only angry humans (and even then, only sometimes)!

Poor Tie was a mess, she really was - Therion couldn't help feeling sorry for her in the state she currently was in. But he also admired her pluck: working with Atypes wasn't easy but she was trying. When she stuttered out some nonsense about him being ashamed to be seen with her, he snorted and gave her non-flit-perched shoulder a very gentle squeeze.

"Nah, you know, I was gonna say the same thing. I'm uh, pretty well known for causin' trouble around here." With a shrug of his big shoulders that sent both of his flits grumbling off his shoulders into flight he gave Tie his most angelic smile (the big goofy one he'd learned to put on in attempts to mollify the ladies down in the Caverns). "If you're good being seen with me, I'm good with being seen with you."

He started to lead/steer her back towards the Candidate's dwellings so they could get her little monster all fixed up.

Unafraid to wipe her hands clean on her shorts and legs, Tie streaked the rest of the blood onto her lower torso without so much as a second thought. Her Black hatchling still screamed from her shoulders (she'd moved him while standing) though his cries were not nearly as intense and he seemed to actually be calming. More than likely Tiepet's shoulders would become his usual spot when he was fully grown, and the Shepherd really didn't have a problem with that. If he was quiet it was all good in her book.

"You don't bother me. No one really bothers me."

For as little as Tie could handle the company of others, when she was around someone else she actually managed to hold on quite well. She'd yet to met a person she never wanted to see again, which was saying something. When this was all over she'd have to find a way to really thank this kind person for his assistance with the flitter - still unnamed - but she didn't know how to come about it without seeming creepy. His smile certain was creepy enough for her tastes, so she timidly smiled back. It only served to make her look younger, more delicate despite being covered in mud and blood.

"So...I...oil often? Every candlemark?"

Tiepet was an interesting girl; she was obviously very careful with her wards (the flits, and probably any other creature she was taking care of) but far, far less so with herself. It didn't seem that she was much aware of the mess she'd made of her clothes - nor did it seem she cared about that. Therion could appreciate such an open and artless person - he was pretty straightforward as a person, so when he found something like that in another, it pleased him.

"Yeah, probably at first. They don't grow really fast or anything like a hatchling dragon, but for whatever reason, it soothes 'em and makes it much easier. Maybe the rubbing helps or just the oil. Either way, do it often to start and then taper off as he calms and settles." The blond nodded his head and brought her to his room - it was neat and orderly; in no time at all he'd retrieved the jar he'd filled with oil after his delivery run.

"Here, feel free to take the whole thing. I can get more and I think you'll be needing it more than I right now."

"....thank you, very much."

Tiepet tried her best to balance the flitter and the jar in her small arms, the creature returning just as quickly back to shrieking as it had been when this all starting. The young woman didn't even think twice about sticking her finger into it's maw to prevent the cries from growing louder, though the wince on her face showed she likely didn't appreciate having the little teeth dig themselves into her flesh. Still, the chewing was keeping this baby quiet, and that worked well enough for her.

"I...is there some way I...I can repay you?"

She didn't want to seem like she was accepting charity without wanting to at least offering to give something in return. Her parents had raised her to know better than that, and it had become part of her own moral standard.

It hadn't occurred to Therion that she would see it as a debt to be repaid - truthfully, he felt that the flitters held the same sort of "everyone help care for 'em" that the dragons themselves did. Of course, maybe she didn't feel that way with Caine, since the little black bugger was busily gnawing her poor finger raw.

"Hmmm..." The big blond made a show of thinking and then grinned at Tiepet, "Tell you what - I can't get into the kitchens to save my soul...any chance you'd be willing to go down and coax something sweet from the head-woman for me?" Ah, food. Yep, Ther was a guy, through and through. Plus, he really wasn't allowed down there, so while it might have sounded like he was asking her for some silly little task out of chivalry, he wasn't.

"See, I grew up here and used to get into a dragon's length of trouble in the kitchens...and I've got a bit of a sweet tooth..." Plus, he'd share it with Loth...his friend was about as welcome in the kitchens as he was - that is to say, as much as thread was welcome in a lush forest unchecked.
