Kay was doing what he always did; his own thing. Roxy and Gera were off doing something or other with their Guardian, Quinn and Tek were out with Kale, Switch was at the shop, Victoria...well, Victoria was probably off-limits for a little while, considering recent events. There was that creepy-awesome kid that lived in the graveyard, but who wanted to spend their day in a graveyard? Not him! It was much too noisy for him there.
That was saying a lot, considering it came from one of the loudest Curios in existance.
Today, 'Kay's own thing' meant going to the store and buying as many sweets as he could, fully intent on getting someone, even if it was just himself, high off of sugar. Eventually the candies were acquired, and Kay took a roundabout way to get home; the way that had him walk right past a park.
Naturally, the sounds of crying - especially one that came from a girl - caught his attention. Curiously, he deviated from the sidewalk and wandered onto the nice cool grass, simply loving the feel of it against his bare feet. The scarred and tattooed young man followed the sound of the crying - and eventually the screaming. He peered over some bushes, spotting a girl with obnoxiously blue hair...hair that he recognized. But it couldn't be Evari, could it? This girl wasn't glowing! Not to mention crying and screaming like this was something he couldn't picture the Curio girl ever doing.
Either way, damsel in distress!
"What's not fair?" Kay asked conversationally, placing the bag of sweets beside his feet to fold his arms over the top of the bush, pretending to lean on it as easily as it were solid. His bright red eye was staring down at her curiously, trying to figure out where he knew her from.

Evari was too wrapped up in her own woes to notice someone was coming near her, and the bushes blocked her view so it wasn't like she would have seen someone coming. But she did hear when a familiar yet older sounding voice asked her a question. She jumped and whipped her head up to stare wide-eyed at the boy leaning on the bush, whimpering and sniffling and trying desperately to regain proper control of her breathing. H-hey...wait a second...that face. The dark skin, the skull plate. The headsnake. Wait. Headsnake? She only knew one person with a headsnake! "K-Kay?" Evari hiccoughed and wiped her eyes with her sleeve again. Crying? Evari? N-no way! She wasn't crying! She just got...dirt in her eyes! Yeah, that was it. Dirt...in her eyes...
...Screw it she was sobbing like a baby that just got its favorite toy taken away.
"K-Kay! Z...Z...Xai doe-doesn't want me anymoooooore!" Evari wailed and pushed herself up onto her feet, pushing through the bushes to cling to him and sob into his chest. He was taller than her! Wait! When did that happen? Whatever she didn't care right now!

Kay's eye widened when the girl recognized him. But...he didn't know any other girls with blue hair and mismatched eyes! It had to be Evari! But...why was she...? Oh. Xai didn't want her anymore? That wasn't good! The young Shaman reeled away from the bushes when the sobbing girl came closer to him, making it easier and less painful to cling to him. As always, his first instinct was to wrap his arms around her, to hold her against his bare chest (as almost always, he was only wearing pants), and to let her cry it all out.
"Aww, that can't be right! What happened?" By now he was thoroughly confused; he didn't remember Xai acting like she didn't want Evari! He did vaguely recall some sense of exhaustion from the poor Guardian...but to let it get so bad that Evari would be bawling like this? Something horrible had to have happened! Confused as he was, he still held her, patting her hair and her back to try and comfort her a little bit.
It was...actually pretty awkward to see Evari this upset!

It was nice that Kay was holding her, it did help to comfort her, but she'd never been upset to tears before. This was a first for her! But she'd also never 'lost' her guardian before. When he asked what happened she whimpered and clung tighter to him, her shoulders shaking as she tried to calm down just enough to explain to him the horrible atrocity that had occurred in her house. Her house. Where only Xai and Nutter and Evari could live. No. One. Else.
"Sh-sh-she wen-went ou...t with Fa-Fari-Faris' mo-mom to...to the Cu-ri-curio shop." Evari began, taking a deep shaky breath. Talking and crying was hard! Darnit! Evari swallowed hard and took another minute to catch her breath. This was important, Evari! Maybe if you told someone then they could help you get rid of that girl stealing Xai from you! This was so out of character for her, sure she had a history of tantrums but they only got as far as pounding her fists on furniture and screaming. She'd never cried before as far as she could remember. Had she? She was pretty sure she hadn't. "Andandand she ca-came back with thi-this sta-a-atue! Anditbecameagirl!" She started to wail again, her efforts to calm down becoming completely forgotten and useless as she recalled the horrible scene she had witnessed.
"And she likes her b-better I j-j-ju-just know it!" This sucked! She didn't want Xai to like this girl better! She didn't want Xai to abandon her! This was all that shop's fault, having that stupid statue in it. But more importantly it was...it was Switch's fault. She owned the shop...she knew Xai was Evari's and yet she...didn't stop her from...
...And...and Kay was Switch's son...
"It's all HER fault!" Evari suddenly pushed Kay away from her, wiping at her eyes with her fists and swaying now that she was on her own two feet. "Y-yo-your m-mom knew! She let her ta-take the s-s-stupid sta-atue!" How could his mother be so cruel?! How could he not know what his mother had done?! In a moment of misdirected anger her balled up fist slammed against Kay's chest, her other fist also hitting his chest soon after. Then his shoulders, then she just...pounded his chest for a few seconds, sobbing and eventually crumpling down onto her knees, falling back on her butt and feebly punching at Kay's leg. Oh god! She just hit her friend! The first friend she ever made, the first person aside from Xai she'd ever met and she just...she just attacked him! What had she done?! Now he was going to hate her too oh god no please!
"A...ah...Kay I...Kay I'm s-sorry...I...I'm sorry pl-please don-don't ha-hate me too!" Evari gasped and stared up at Kay, her eyes wide and still brimming with tears. "I...I just...I..." What had she done?!

Kay did his best to understand the poor girl, but admittedly he was having a hard time. Talking and Crying at the same time never made that sort of thing easy...that and he was still trying to figure out what was so horrible that it made her react like this. What he was hearing didn't match at all with what he was picturing in his head. Xai? The Curio Shop? Coming home with an item? But that happened all the time! Oh, but Xai liked the new girl better?
The young man's expression turned to utter surprise when he was pushed away, letting her go on reflex. Wait, what? He was so lost! All he could do was stare at her with that stupified expression of his, grunting lightly and flinching when she hit him, but otherwise not making a move to stop her. Apparently she needed to let this out one way or another...and if that meant hitting him? Well, fine. Still, it gave him a moment to piece things together...so...Evari was upset because Xai's attention was divided? That...sounded fairly right, but her reaction still made it seem so much worse.
He didn't have much more time to ponder it though, as the subject seemed to change...to him? Ah, she was apologizing to him now? Oh, for hitting him!
"...Ah..." He breathed out and followed her lead by sinking to the ground to be at her level, reaching out with both hands to gently hold her face, brushing the tears from under her eyes with his thumbs. "I don't." He assured her, moving his hands to wrap around her again, pulling the poor girl against him in another hug. "An' I don't think Xai hates you either." The young man was going to hold onto Evari until she decided she didn't want him to anymore, that much was certain. "Siblings aren't so bad! I have two'a them...she's not replacing you, and it's not my Na's fault either."

His slight movement convinced her he was turning to leave, but instead he...got down on the ground with her? Evari's fists clenched and grabbed the grass under her hands, pursing her quivering lips together tightly. Her breath caught when he reached out to her and touched her face, trying not to move or even breathe as he wiped away tears. Th-this was weird! No one had held her face before! But he was being so nice to her even though she'd screamed at him and hit him and blamed his mom for all this. If someone had done that to Evari there was no way she could be nice like this after!
A look of relief washed over her face at his assurance that he didn't hate her, very glad that at least one person today didn't. She'd hate to lose Kay! Faris was her best friend but Kay was her first! Evari blinked a few times as he suddenly pulled her into a hug, keeping her mouth held tightly closed and snaking her arms under his to reach around and hold his shoulders, hiding her face in his shoulder. Xai didn't hate her? But she'd spoken so meanly to her! And she didn't even follow her when Evari ran away! She seemed to be calming down after releasing some of her frustration through beating on Kay, but the poor girl still looked rather traumatized. Siblings weren't so bad? B-but Evari didn't need siblings! She didn't even want them! Why couldn't that girl j-just go away?!
"B-but she got...so mad at me." Evari frowned, her hands gripping his shoulders tightly as her hands shook. "And sh..she didn't even ask if I w-wanted a sis-si-sister!" Wasn't that rude?! Guardians were totally supposed to make sure this kind of thing was okay! Especially if it made their child unhappy, right? That should be how it worked. Mmf. Her head turned to press her cheek against him so she could wipe at her face with the end of her sleeve, staring at how wet it was already afterward. Bah, who cared.
"Doesn't....do-doesn't it both-bother you? Sha-sharing h-h-her?" Evari hiccupped, her eyes turning up to stare at Nahual. She reached up to try and gently brush a finger over the top of his head, sniffling as she did. Heeeeeee. Headsnake. She still wished she could have one. "I don't wanna share my Xai...sh-she was mine fir-first..."

It was a good sign when Evari hugged him back. Or at least that's what he thought while he held her against his bare chest, swaying very lightly from side to side. He couldn't help but chuckle quietly, patting her back.
"Did you beat on her like you did me? I dunno, some people don't like that." The young man was trying to tease her, but he wasn't so sure how that would work. The point was, of course, that he was trying his best, and that was all that mattered, right? "But I don't think Parents can choose their kids." He mused thoughtfully, resting his head against hers. "...'cause even I was just given to her, and so was Tek...and Kale just came home with Quinn..." Though their situation was a bit different, since Tek's arrival destroyed a bit of the shop...but the point was there! When asked if it bothers him, Kay pressed his lips together and sighed, loosening his grip on her just a little bit.
"...Sometimes, yeah." The young man admitted quietly. "Tek's always got her attention 'cause he's a Baby, but...I dunno, doesn't mean Na doesn't love me an' Quinn just as much." At least, he hoped not. To be honest he'd never really questioned it since once he grew up he had this habit of wandering away anyway. Nahual didn't hiss when she tried to touch him, but he did ruffle his feathers in an uncomfortable sort of way. Apparently the serpent wasn't keen on hissing at a crying girl, no matter how much noise she was making.
"Either way, I dunno about you, but I don't wanna live with Na forever! Y'only gotta share her until you move out, It'll be okay."

Evari shook her head at Kay's question about beating on the girl or Xai like she'd just done for him, sniffling a little and making a little face. She'd wanted to, but she didn't! She held him tighter and whimpered just a bit when he said parents couldn't choose their kids. Sure they could! They picked up the items, that meant they wanted them! Surely not everyone could be that stupid, especially when picking up a second item from the same shop! Kay had three brothers though? But that Kale kid...he brought home a kid himself?! That was just so wrong! What a jerk! How could Switch allow such a thing?!
Gaaah! He was letting her go?! Nono, don't let go! Evari refused to loosen her own vice-like grip on the boy, looking up at him as he gave her an answer. Sometimes? See? See?! It wasn't so great having a sibling, huh? Let alone three. She tickled under Nahual's chin with that one finger, eventually dropping her hand to just cling to Kay again and bury her face against his chest, trying to make herself smaller like that could make this glowing girl disappear. W-wait...she...she couldn't just be with Xai forever? She had to leave sometime?! She didn't want to move out! That wasn't fair! Why couldn't that other girl move out instead?!
"I don' wanna." Evari hiccupped stubbornly, but whether it was about leaving home or sharing Xai was questionable. She didn't really want to go home just yet though. "Sh-she didn't come look for me..." Well, yeah, you hurt her feelings. But Evari had expected that Xai would chase after her apologizing and begging for her forgiveness for doing something so horrid to her like bring in an unwanted sibling. "Why di'n't she follow me?" That was what made her think she didn't want her anymore, after all. If someone really wanted their child wouldn't they follow them and bring them back home?

Kay seemed surprised when she refused to let him go. Instead of releasing her, he tightened his grip a little bit, holding her lighter than she was holding onto him, but enough to convey that he wasn't going anywhere. Not that he could, the girl had a grip of pure iron! Nahual growled at the touch, huffing and curling back into his host's hair for now; there was no deal where he had to be touched! ******** that!
To be honest though, Kay had no idea why Xai wouldn't have followed Evari. He'd never really been in trouble with either of his parents, and he'd certainly never thrown a fit and stormed out before. His life was pretty mellow, and his Parents were usually left a note with clues to his whereabouts...anything he said here would be a complete guess, or something he saw on TV.
"Well..." He started as though he were thinking rather hard on the issue, his fingers playing with some of her hair merely because it was within his grasp. "Maybe she didn't know which direction you left in?" Kay offered, tilting his head to the side, his gaze lifted thoughtfully. "And instead decided to wait for you at home, just to be safe?"

When Kay tightened his hold on her a bit she felt better, less like he was about to let her go and also push her away. Nope, not going to let that happen! She didn't mind that Nahual had hid himself, he wasn't the one she needed to hold. This was the first time she'd thrown such a tantrum she'd fled from the house; Evari didn't know the rules or what she was supposed to do now. She didn't want to go home yet, but she didn't want to be alone, but she didn't want to see those stupid faces. Evari sniffled and wiped at her face with her sleeve one more time, having finally stopped crying completely except for the occasional sniff every now and again.
She smiled and actually made a happy little noise as he played with her hair, looking up at him for a moment as he began to explain why Xai possibly wouldn't follow her. Guess that first part made sense...sort of. Evari had taken off so quickly and suddenly. So Xai was waiting at home for her? Well...well too bad! "Well I don' wanna go home right now..." She pouted, her hold on Kay finally loosening a little. "Can we get icecream're somethin'? S'been forever since I saw you!" It was true...damn, it kind of sucked that the first time she'd seen him in forever she was a crying, screaming, hitting mess! And she liked hanging out with Kay. He was actually cool.

"Ah ha, makin your Na wait, yeah?" Kay chuckled, loosening his hold as much as she loosened hers. He'd learned from the last time, and until she let him go first, he wasn't going to budge. Ice cream, huh? He pondered over her request, shrugging.
"If y'want ice cream, yeah, lets go! Wanna wash up first, though? Yer eyes're all puffy and red, and not cause of your pretty glow." Even though she wasn't glowing right now, it was fun to pretend she was. Also, teasing always helped bring people's spirits back up, so why not now? "Whenever you're ready~" He told her, still not letting her go until she let him go.

"Yes." Evari said shortly, wiping at her nose with her sleeve again. She was going to make Xai wait for her if she was at home. That'd show her! Hmph! Maybe next time she'd think twice before doing something that might upset Evari! This would teach her stupid guardian a lesson, right? It totally had to.
Evari was wiping and rubbing at her face some more when Kay agreed to get ice cream with her, actually smiling. Yay! He'd stay with her! She blinked and looked up at Kay again when he talked about her puffy eyes and called her glow...pretty? Well no one had ever said something about her was pretty before! That she knew of, anyway. It made her cheeks flush, but they were soon covered up by Evari's glow returning just a little. It wasn't as bright as it could be but it was better than nothing? Evari sniffled and put her head against his chest again, taking advantage of the 'whenever you're ready' for now. She'd be ready in a minute! Just give her a second. Before long Evari had let go of Kay and was slowly sitting up on her own again, rubbing at her cheek and then pushing herself up to stand. Whee! She felt a little dizzy for a second there! "Where'm I supposed t'wash my face?" She blinked, looking around until she spotted some bathrooms. Where there were bathrooms there were sinks! Evari helped Kay stand up if he needed it, letting him grab anything he had dropped because of her suddenly tackling him before she held his hand and walked with him to the bathrooms. Once there she let him go and left him to disappear into the bathrooms.
Evari blinked and stared at herself in the mirror, tilting her head this way and that. Her eyes really were red and puffy! Geeze! She took off her shirts first, putting the tanktop she'd had on over her long sleeved shirt back on and then washing her face. She was back out of the bathroom a few minutes later, her skin glowing a little more and her shirt folded messily in her arms. "M'ready." She told him with a bit of a grin. The idea of hanging out with her first friend and getting icecream was cheering her up! Probably helped that he called her pretty too?

Kay felt a swell of pride when she started to glow again. Even if it was just a little, it was still something. He let her take as long as she wanted as promised; at least she wasn't hitting him anymore, or crying. Slow as it was, everything seemed to be slowly returning to normal. When she asked where to go, he was about to nod to the bathrooms when she spotted them anyway. Now given the chance to collect his bags...oh right, his bags! He bought a whole bunch of sugar, didn't he?
Evari's hand sliding into his made him forget about asking her, and with a grin he took the lead to take her to the bathrooms. Like a dog he waited outside for her, pacing out of absolute boredom. Evari's return was enough to make him stop that, to turn to her with a tilt of his head, looking her over. "Much better. But why'd you have to take that off?" He asked, pointing to the shirt in her hands. Not that he was complaining, it just seemed weird.
"By the way, I have candy, too." Finally remembering, he lifted the bag to make her look at it. "Sugar rush day?" He asked them, turning to face the way they had come, offering his arm to her and looking at her over his shoulder.

At the inquiry about her shirt she looked down at it and shrugged, unraveling one of the sleeves to show him what she'd done with it with constantly wiping her face and crying into them. They were kind of a mess, and it was embarrassing just to show him, but he'd asked. "They're messy so I don' wanna wear it right now." Evari explained with a little sniffle, rubbing at her cheek and walking up to him now. Had he been waiting out here this whole time? He didn't even go into the boy's bathroom for a moment? Huh...that made her feel kind of happy. "Sh-should I put it back on?" That'd be silly, Kay didn't even wear a shirt. She looked him up a down for a second, noticing just how different he was compared to last time she'd seen him. He was taller, and covered in scars and tattoos. What were the scars from?! Geeze!
Evari blinked and looked down at the bag, gently taking it if she could to get a better look at what he had inside. Sugar rush day...go back to Xai on a sugar high? That sounded like good vengeance. Evari grinned at Kay and nodded, linking her arm through his. "Ice cream and candy~! I like it." Ooh maybe they could even put some of the candy in the ice cream! At least now she was starting to seem more like herself, her glow had even fully returned as well! "How come yer all covered in scars?" Evari asked with a tilt of her head, handing back to the candy bag and holding her shirt with the hand that was linked with Kay's so she could reach up and trace one of the scars to see if they were real. Whoa! They were! But to get a scar you had to get real hurt, right? That was so weird.

(A bit done over aim for sake of ease and convenience)
Oh, she'd taken it off because she was crying. Right. It wasn't that he'd forgotten, it was just that...well okay, he might have. But she seemed to much better near the end, it was hard to dwell. "Nah, sokay, y''don't haveta." He drawled, fidgeting with his hands by playing with Nahual, who seemed, despite his usual hatred for the world, to be a smidge affectionate. Well, he was allowing the boy to touch him anyway, and that was a start. With her arm in his, Kay headed towards an ice cream cart; there had to be one around here! Then they could just sit in the park, get high on sugar, and go home. He startled a bit when his scars were brought up, his red eye gazing down at the way she traced one of them. That...kinda felt neat, actually. "Uhh, I get into fights?" Chuckling, he shook his head then shrugged.
"I dunno, I just get them. I think most of 'em are from Nahual or Tek or Quinny; Nahual's a pisspoor sport, Tek's got a razor tongue and Quinny...well, Quinny's a shark. So...teeth. Sharp ones." He pointed to a set of scars in a bite pattern on his arm. There was a little pause, and he rubbed the back of his neck with a free hand. "S'the only time getting one actually hurt." Because...Quint bit him. Hard.
"Mmkay." Evari answered simply, glad she didn't need to fuss with putting the shirt back on. Sure, she could just put it on over her current shirts but that wouldn't look right at all! Evari was very particular about her outfits. She was still curiously checking out the rest of the scars on his arm. Evari wasn't holding it like she had been before anymore, stretching it out in front of her to see the whole thing. Wow! He had so many! Fights, huh? But Kay didn't seem like the violent fighting type...he hadn't even fought back when she started beating on him. A razor tongue? Geeze! "How come ya fight 'em? They make you mad too?" Wasn't he just the one who told her siblings weren't so bad? And yet his were leaving scars on him?! Wh-what if...what if she had to fight off that deer girl? What if she was only pretending to be sweet? She had those hooves, and those antlers..ugh! She didn't want a sister, damnit! Evari stared down at the bite mark he was pointing out with wide eyes, turning her shocked gaze up at Kay soon after. The only time? "B...but doesn't leavin' scars hurt? S'gotta be real bad to leave a scar, don't it?"
"I don't fight them, they're right rotten bastards." Kay swore easily, though he ended it with a laugh. "Neither of them are nice and you know it just by lookin' at them." It didn't help that he was loud and obnoxious and touchy-feely, and generally everything that they both hated. Oh well. "Hrm...kind of? I mean, I have a real high pain tolerance...or so Na says. So I kinda can't tell ya if they all really hurt...like, really bad hurt." Though he did explain that the one with Quint really hurt, it was hard to express how the other ones had felt. "The other ones only kind of hurt? Na says paper cuts are annoying kind-of-hurts, so I guess that's all I felt with the other ones." He shrugged, his nose wrinkled with the effort it took to think that one though enough to explain it. But thankfully they came across an ice cream cart that was still mostly in the park, and Kay ushered her over and pushed her in front of him to order first. It was a nice push though, more like a 'youfirstahh' sort of push.
Oh so that was it. She'd been right all along! Siblings sucked! Why was he trying to convince her that they were okay?! He wasn't trying to drive her to insanity, was he? That'd be such a mean thing to do. Hopefully she was wrong; Evari would do her best to give him the benefit of the doubt. She made him bend his arm again so she could inspect each of his scarred fingers, tilting her head and humming curiously. Wow! He just had them everywhere! What was a pain tolerance? Did that just mean he couldn't feel pain or something? Weird! Kinda cool but...weird! "So it didn't hurt when I hitcha?" Evari compared his hand to hers, thoroughly distracted from her earlier troubles by Kay's apparently way cool scars. They were weird but...kinda cool after the initial 'what the heck'. He had tattoos now too! He didn't have tattoos before. He'd changed so much! He was bigger; his hair was longer...that wasn't fair, Evari wanted to get bigger too! A pout started to creep up on Evari's face again the more she lamented over being just a dumb kid, suddenly wondering why she wasn't older. She didn't like being a kid sometimes, kids got their way a lot yeah but...there was a lot that she got stopped from doing because she was a kid. Those drinks she'd had with Tori had been really good! But they'd gotten in trouble because they were kids. That was so lame. She was about to ask how he suddenly got bigger than her when she was suddenly guided to and pushed at the ice cream cart. Whoa! Hey! Icecream! Sweet! Evari's mismatched eyes widened as she stared at the cart's little menu in awe, one particular ice cream catching her eye. It. Was. Rainbow. The flavor wasn't rainbow, it was vanilla, but the color was rainbows! "I want that!" Evari gasped, pointing at the picture on the sign. She wanted it! She had to have it! Sister? What sister? Huh? Xai made her mad? Kay had scars? What?
