It was a beautiful spring day. The birds were singing and other creatures darted here and there. Hoshi smiled to himself as he trotted along. Once, long ago, he'd have joined in with the birds singing. He lost the desire to do so the night his father appeared in his life for the last time. He no longer felt like singing. He shook himself out of his thoughts with a sigh and stopped as he noticed a purple Soquili in the distance.

A purple coated mare with a mane and tail of dark silk pranced down one of the many rocky paths that riddled the labyrinth of the mountains. Loose stones chimed under hoof, skittering down the remainder of the slope as Masque jumped the last few feet on a whim, landing gracefully and moving into a floating trot. She paid little heed to where her hooves carried her, as they knew the way home well enough... Though she didn't really want to go directly home... Her half sister Kaishara had alredy taken off, powerful wings carrying her away to the unicorn stallion who called to her heart. The purple mare was happy for her older sibling, wishing her all the joy in the world. But today Masque had a joy of her own, a joy that came from spending time with one who was dear on a beautiful day of sunlight and cooling breezes. Thinking she was alone, the young songstress began to sing, the same tune that her father told her was the reason for her name.. A memory from her grandsire and his life long ago... "Masquerade! Paper faces on parade . . . Masquerade! Hide your face, so the world will never find you! Masquerade! Every face a different shade . . . Masquerade! Look around, there's another mask behind you!" She stopped abruptly, ducking her head in embarrassment at the sight of another Soquili. It was rare that Masque sang around others, and not without a great deal of pleading and urging.. "Oh.." She murmured, flushing. "I am sorry.. I thought I was alone.. Please forgive me if I disturbed you."

Hoshi smiled gently and bowed to the mare, "Not at all Miss. You have a lovely voice and it's a pleasure to be allowed to hear it."
Hoshi straightened himself up and introduced himself, "My name is Hoshi. What is yours, if I may be so bold as to inquire?"
He had been taught to be a gentleman be his adopted uncle Claude when he was still a foal so his manners and actions towards mares often reflected that.

She smiled in return, ears flicking as she ducked her head slightly in shy pleasure at the bow. She skittered to one side, her hooves chiming on the stones. It wasn't that she didn't know how to sing, the skill ran strong in her family... She was just usually too shy to sing before anyone, other than perhaps with her sisters... "Hoshi.. It is lovely to meet you, and you may be so bold, for an introduction deserves one in turn. I am Masque, and it is my honor to meet you..." She glanced around. "I do hope I am not intruding upon anything.. If that is the case, I apologize.. There a dozen different paths I follow out of the mountains, I hardly ever run into anyone on them..."

Hoshi chuckled softly. It was a fluke that he was here when she appeared. Usually he stayed at the teepee with his mother and their two-legger
"It's quite alright Lady Masque. You've disturbed no one and intruded on nothing. I was merely heading out to graze. Nothing more, nothing less. As a matter of fact, I'd be honored if you joined me."

The delicate mare relaxed a little, nodding faintly. Just an accident then? That was good... She had no wish to intrude upon another's solitude, nor did she wish to trespass on claimed lands. Though she was not part of a true 'herd', those she claimed as such were protective of their homes, and she couldn't imagine a herd being anything less. Well, at least there was nothing to worry about. Then it seemed this was just a happy accident. "I think I would quite enjoy that." She smiled, nodding. "Please lead on, I know very little of this area beyond my usual haunts... And it is always lovely to see new places..."

Hoshi beamed, "Excellent! Come on then. I know just the spot!" Wheeling around, he started towards the river.

What? Masque blinked in surprise as Hoshi spun away from her and trotted off, clearly excited about sharing whatever place he had decided was 'just the spot'. "Oh... Alright then." She murmured and trotted after him, ears pitched forward in interest. She could faintly hear the laughter of water over rocks, the sound carrying easily in the crystalline air of the mountains. Birds trilling formed the beginning of nature's melody, their singing and the laughter of water chiming merrily over the beat of hooves. "It is beautiful here..." She murmured. "I like visiting the mountains, but the human I tend to spend time with lives by the forest and river... Not too far away, but far enough I don't visit as much as I would like to... And I certainly haven't had much of a chance to explore..." Not that she made too much of a habit of that.. That was more Kaishara's job, or maybe Chaci's.
