Hillworth was a school Melody's mother refused to let her daughter near, the young men who attended there were low lives who weren't worth her time or attention. Having grown up hearing such things of course the blonde was inclined to believe it and so did her best to avoid any one in the uniform, as well as the school herself. Well, she was only so inclined to believe it due to the nature of her personality but she wasn't going to say that in front of a very stern Vietnamese woman who's word was law in their house.

But taking all of that into consideration, how she did do her best to try and appease her mother by avoiding these "ruffians", it made her wonder why she was standing outside of the school staring into the courtyard. She didn't have much of a reason to be here, save that she was simply passing by on her way to her favourite Vietnamese restaurant, and so staring at the school seemed pointless and a little on the odd side. She didn't even really know any one from this school anyway (though she did wonder what Azzo or her brother might look like in the uniform).

Though if some one were to stop on the side of the road and ask her why, she could likely give them an answer. And a very good one too, in her own opinion. In a school that was supposed to be filled to the brim with ruffians and ne'er do wells... It struck her as so very odd to see one of these delinquents skipping rope.

Frankly, for anyone who bothered to look, Marx didn't care if jumping rope at Hillworth was an odd sight. He was going to do it whether they liked it or not, so there. And if anyone didn't like it, well, stopping long enough to use said rope as a whip to shoo them away and smack an arm, shoulder, or such in the process was certainly not an unwelcome distraction from daily "school" life.

The only sad thing was that he was hard pressed to find anyone on campus who shared the hobby. Dames of double dutch and the like were a nice break in the pattern and there really was only so much you could do with one jump rope in your hand even if you knew a few tricks. Which Marx did, of course.. just not that many yet. And for the moment his only trick is cris-crossing the rope every few jumps just to keep it a little interesting.

Growing bored with that pattern though, a quick skipping step and a quarter turn let him have view of the sidewalk outside campus, and the passer-by who was looking in. And he fumbled. Crap he wasn't counting this time, what number was that? An accusatory glare is sent the girl's way as he shoulders the rope and walks as far as the gate. "Is there something in my hair or do you just stare at people?"

Sad to say she knew nothing of jump rope, save what the actual thing was called, and so she ended up watching this "hooligan" in a mix of awe and curiosity. Didn't 'bad kids' do something more... destructive then jumping rope? It was only speculation based on what her mother had taught her of course, but still-

Her thoughts were disrupted by his glare, the tan girl taking a step back in surprise as her brown eyes blinked at him. She hadn't meant to disrupt him, honest! It took a moment for her mind to work so she could respond.

"N-no," she replied in a soft and gentle voice, eyes blinking once again as he came closer. "No, I'm sorry.. I was just passing by and-" Stumbling over her words, the tan girl flushed a bit more and ducked her head just a tiny bit. Why in the world was she acting so shy?

Marx frowns a bit at the step backwards. What, his glare scared her or something? He didn't even fully mean this one. But then he didn't see many girls lately so he could have put it on a bit thick. While his own mother had fawned over his every whim she had always wanted him to be nice to girls. And he was, until they ignored him when he wanted something, but she wasn't ignoring him at all so he might have done something bad this time. Well, she wasn't there to give him that almost-scolding little frown of hers so it was okay this time.

"I don't hit girls, you can stop acting like I;m going to, or something. I just don't like being stared at." Not unless he was telling someone to watch him pull off a new trick he'd mastered, or tried to master. Wait a second, was she serious? "Just walking by? Don't you know anything? No girls walk by this school alone, some of the guys in here like easy pickings like that. I don't know if they'd actually DO anything but an opening like that?"

"Sorry, I've just..." Frowning to herself, she gave her rear a mental boot then smoothed herself out. "To be honest I've never met any one from Hillworth. And I hear a lot of bad things about the school and students from other girls from Crystal and my mother who means well but really shouldn't say things she doesn't understand really."

Brown eyes lifted from the ground to watch him, her voice still calm and gentle despite the hint of annoyance that lingered (that was more at herself them him, honest). "I didn't mean to make it seem like you hit girls or anything, and I'm sorry if it seems it. I'm just... Wary." And she had good reason to obviously, especially if he was scolding her about walking by the school alone.

"But really... I was just rather amazed at watching you jump rope. I've never really seen or done it myself, so I was rather in awe to see you doing it." Okay, so that was somewhat of a little white lie but she had no intention of telling otherwise.

"You've never met anyone from Hillworth?" Well, that was pretty believable. She really didn't look, or sound the type to associate with most of the school population. "Crystal huh?" He'd heard about that school, but most of what he'd heard was that the girls were.. how did that one senior put it? oh, right.. prissier than him.

"Wary's all fine and dandy but you didn't have to back up. I haven't even walked out of the gate. I mean if I were going to attack or something I'd have come out onto the sidewalk right?" Absently he reaches up to muss with the end of his ponytail. It had been tucked into his vest before he started jumping rope, but during the course of the game had worked its way loose. For the moment, pulling any knots out with his fingers would do, if it looked bad then he'd deal with that when he saw a reflection.

Amazed though? His jumping wasn't anything fancy, yet. But really? "I'm not that great at it yet. Not many of the guys here are into the game."

She gave a small nod, Crystal indeed. Not that she had been given any choice in the matter with how her mother had put her foot down about her beautiful and talented daughter deserved to go to such a school. She and her father hadn't bothered to argue.

"I can promise I'm not like most of the girls, I honestly can't stand most of them." Luckily there were a few diamonds in the rough, just enough to keep her sane at that school.

Though speaking of diamonds in the rough, she was still trying to make up her mind about Marx it seemed. He was definitely a bit rough around the edges, and she could hear her mother lecturing her now about having stayed so long. But still she apologized again for her behaviour, hoping to smooth the air around them.

"No offense, but most guys won't be. Though it's a shame, you looked like you were enjoying yourself." Still, fancy or not it was better then what she could do she was sure.

"I guess I can believe you, I've not met anyone from Crystal myself but some of the guys have enough to say about most of that school and you don't look all that prissy to me." He frowns lightly when his fingers find a small knot at the end of his ponytail and focuses more on working that loose than the conversation, for the moment.

"Hn, most guys wouldn't but they should. It's a lot more interesting than just jogging around campus. That's boring as heck." A shrug and he drops his hand now, the knot untangled. "It's something to do. I prefer to hold the rope when someone else is jumping though, like games of double-dutch, than just jump solo though, but it's not a bad time pass."

"Actually I'd probably be more scary, if I was wearing my make-up~ A lot of people seem to dislike how wild it gets, I still get odd looks at school even when I'm not wearing it."

She let out a small giggle, wondering if he would indeed find it scary or just wonder what the heck she was on. Not that he'd find out any time soon, she was sure. She was getting used to just not putting it on until the weekend, as there was no point to putting it on after school really.

"What's double dutch?" she asked curiously, figuring it must involve more then one person but she wasn't seeing how a game like jump rope could involve more then one person.
PostPosted: Sat Apr 10, 2010 10:01 am

"Make-up? If you were a guy wearing it, then maybe. I don't see a girl in make-up being scary. Unless you're going for a Halloween costume scary." Or bad drag queen scary. He swore up and down that one previous teacher was a drag queen who couldn't pull it off, but never got the proof.

A shrug is all he adds to that point though, really he didn't see much else to add in. Aside from a shudder at picturing bad drag queen fashion, but let's not go there because he was certainly not giving himself mental images.

Now that the topic's back on him, well mostly, he grins. "Double dutch is a kind of trick jumping game. You get two really long ropes, and someone on each end to hold them. One rope goes clockwise, the other goes counter-clockwise, and then the person jumping can do whatever tricks they want as long as they don't trip up on the ropes. Some people manage to dance to the jumps, but I don't bother with that part." Not yet. If it was worth the attention though, he'd likely try it.

"Well it depends, honestly," she replied, with a small smile. "On how you feel about the ganguro style~" Because that was her make-up and accessory style. She just loved how the pale make-up stood out against her tan skin and helped make her features pop.

Though as of late she was wearing less and less of it, something that made her sadden a little and yet -some how- she didn't entirely mind. She blamed Crystal Academy, darn school and their strict dress codes. This was probably something her mother was hoping for. Blasted woman.

"Oh that sounds so cool!" she cooed, trying her best to imagine what it would look like and hoped it was close to it. "I bet that's so much fun!"
PostPosted: Sat Apr 17, 2010 4:00 pm

"Then I guess it doesn't depend on much." This is all said with nothing more than a shrug, "because I don't even know what that style is." Huh, should he care about it though? If it's something that would matter that much.. Google, later.

It was probably a chick thing though, who knows maybe even just a Crystal girls thing. The way that the girl talked about it though, it has to be some kind of 'in' thing so it has to be worth looking into.

"Yeah, it is fun but only when you get someone really good to play along. If the person spinning the rope can't do it right then everyone trips up." Even if it was pretty fun just to watch them tripping up, when it wasn't him. "Or you get someone who can't keep up with the spinning tripping over the ropes and messing up your rhythm. I like to spin the ropes more than jump most of the time myself." Less chance to mess up his hair, or trip over the ropes when someone fumbles.

"Mm, well that's not too surprising, really. It's a fashion trend that started over in Japan, from what I remember. Girls go and tan themselves, if they aren't all ready, and dye their hair blonde." A pause in her explanation to giggle a bit shyly, if not a bit sheepishly.

"Ah, but don't let hearing that fool you. My hair and skin color are completely natural!" Something she did allow herself to feel a bit prideful in.

But back to the matter at hand. "Along with the tan skin and bright blonde hair they were bright, usually pastel, colored make-up that really stands out on the tan skin. Usually they dress in varying fashions with bright accessories to stand out even more. Though not a lot of people can actually pull off the look, I've seen some really hideous pictures of badly gone ganguro styles."

A nod of her head followed as she listened to him talk about double dutch. Part of her thought it sounded a lot like an elementary school game but opted not to say anything about it. After all a lot of people in this world still did things they did when they were younger. But despite her thoughts on that it still sounded a lot of fun and she wondered if it would be worth it to learn.

"Maybe I'll see about learning how to do double dutch and we can do it together?" she asked, sounding a little hopeful. She likely wouldn't be as good as him but she was willing to learn and try! besides he didn't seem so bad of a guy, even if he was attending Hillworth. Maybe it would be good to make a friend here.
