It was rare to find Emery in a toy store - even rarer to find her completely enthralled with an item of any sort. The little orange haired girl had found a section in the boy's toys that featured large colorful creatures that made funny noises and had jaws that moved if you pushed a button.
She stood in the midst of the aisle, just pulling the jaws on a big t-rex toy up and down, up and down, mimicking the sound it made when the creature did this. The toy was automated to make a very loud roar whenever the mouth opened, and the toddler could not be less fascinated by this. Particularly as the noise was fun to make - rawr, rawr. Even if she completely had the emphasis wrong.

Jocelyn hefted Jeff up onto his shoulders, letting the boy go high to grab a big red ball. He reached down, grabbed it, felt it, and then put it back. Apparently that wasn't the perfect ball. Back Jeff went, into the shopping cart that was already half-full. Jocelyn hadn't specified a gender of child from the labs, so he'd put off toy-buying until it arrived.
And "it" was Jeff.
"No, huh?"
Jeff shook his head.
"How about a dinosaur?"
Jeff shrugged, and Jocelyn let him down to check out the dino toys. He stood beside the little girl there, watching her work the T-Rex. That was kinda cool!

Emery glanced up and blinked, "Oh hello." she greeted, still playing with the T-rex. "It makes noises." She stated this plainly as if it weren't very obvious.
"Do you want to try?" the girl asked, holding the plastic toy out to Jeff after she'd had a chance to play with the mouth again. He was new, so he got to try it, right? Or at least, Mommy had told her something like that - though Mommy was presently crouched down behind Emery looking at the puzzles.

Jeff smiled a bit shyly and reached out to pull the dinosaur's mouth open. He'd seen the girl do it before, so he wasn't surprised when it made a noise, but it felt pretty nice to do it himself!
"Dinosaurs rock," he said definitively, looking to a stegosaurus on the shelf with the others. He opened its mouth and listened to its different sound. Maybe some day he could have an army of them!

Emery nodded, petting the head of the T-rex next to the one she'd been playing with. "I like them. They're wrinkly."
Marie glanced over her should, keeping a close watch on her daughter and the people who'd approached her. So far everything was fine, but better watch.

Jocelyn crouched beside his son, looking the dinosaurs over himself. He picked one up, looked at the price, wrinkled his nose, and put it back. Freakin' over-priced crap. He wasn't rich.
"Uh-huh," Jeff agreed, totally ignoring his father's presence to play with a raptor. He thought it was silly that everything was in boxes. You should be able to play with things in the store, and then put them right back!
"They're big, too."

"Though why's it got a box? That makes it hard to run around." Emery commented, moving the T-rex back and forth with her hand, box still attached. "Silly box."

"Dunno," Jeff shrugged, and Jocelyn chose to not speak. Let his little boy be social, even if it could be a learning experience. It wasn't like he knew where any of the other spawn lived.

After a bit, the girl introduced herself. "I'm Emery." she said with a nod, holding out her hand like she'd seen her mother do before. Though Emery held out the wrong hand and held it a bit upsidedown.

Jeff looked to his father. Were you supposed to shake girls' hands? How did you do it? Daddy just nodded, and Jeff took the girl's hand, shaking it a bit awkwardly.
"I'm Jeff. This is my daddy."
Jocelyn waved.

"That's my Mommy." Emery said, indicating the brunette investigating the puzzles. Marie waved over her shoulder but stayed out of the conversation. Let her daughter socialize a bit.
Letting go of Jeff's hand after she'd shaken it a couple of times, the girl picked up a smaller dinosaur toy - this one was more rubbery and didn't move or make noises, but it felt nice to hold and she bounced it around a bit. "Look, this one doesn't have a box."

"It doesn't make noise, though," Jeff said, shrugging, "It's weird. Balls don't have boxes either."

"Now it does." Emery said, moving it back and forth and putting her hand by the mouth, tilting it down a bit as she said "rawr. rawr." a few times. It was cute if utterly weird as she had no real emphasis or passion in the word. It was just a noise.
"Balls don't have boxes and cards don't have boxes and jacks have bags. Why do dinosaurs have boxes? They won't roll away."

"Maybe they get up at night," Jeff offered, watching the girl move the toy with an arched brow. What a strange little girl! He should have known, what with her being in the BOY toys in the first place.

"Maybe." Emery agreed, "They go to stop the soldiers from marching and the barbies from dancing. The barbies are in special boxes because they are special. But the dinosaurs will get them in the end."
Marie snorted and shook her head, standing up. "You're being dorky again, sweetie." she teased, ruffling her daughter's hair. "Found something you like?"
Emery nodded, holding up the dinosaur that made noise and the little one that didn't. "Did you want these or can I get them?" she asked, leaning over to blink her cold golden eyes at Jeff.
