Normally, Jonah preferred to spend his Sundays at home, sampling the strange foods Joey brought home during the week or sitting out on their apartment terrace, watching people pass with no obligation to interact with them.
This time last year, the manatee boy had somehow avoided the festivities surrounding the Easter holiday, probably because he and his guardian had technically been homeless. This year, Joey had insisted Jonah at least venture outside for a little while, so there they were, standing at the edge of the route the parade was scheduled to take through town. Children and adults of all shapes and sizes lined the street, some waving streamers while others jumped up and down in somewhat creepy bunny masks. Jonah sipped a strawberry milkshake and shifted out of the way of a particularly enthusiastic hopper.

When he shifted, he ended up bumping into a rather short girl with long orange hair, who happened to be sipping a drink through a straw. "Ow." she stated in an unaffected monotone before resuming sipping.
It wasn't much of a response but she did eventually turn her head to look at Jonah. "Are you all right?"

"Hmph," Jonah oofed. He looked back at the girl, then turned to face her. "Yeah. You?" He brushed at his pale, pinstriped suit and after judging that everything was okay, he continued slurping his shake. The girl's hair was certainly an attention-grabber, and considering the fact that he had none, a source of envy as well. Mostly, the boy wanted someone to talk to, hairy or not. At least she wasn't hopping. "'m Jonah," he muttered. "Who're you?"

"I am fine." the girl agreed, continuing to sip her drink.
"Hello Jonah, I am Emery." the girl replied, watching the strange hopping people and their bizarre masks. "Why is hopping around in a mask entertaining to children?"

He shrugged. "Too much candy, maybe." Jonah liked candy well enough, but he was embarrassed to admit that when he ate a lot of it he got a little silly. "Makes people do weird stuff."

"Candy tastes odd." Emery commented, sipping her drink again. "Those people must be hot in those costumes." she added after a bit, watching strange people run by in bunny costumes, waving at the crowd. "Too warm."

"You can send your candy to me." He watched the costumed revelers for a moment, shifting his weight from foot to foot. This girl wasn't half bad. She was nearly as quiet as he was, and she didn't jump around doing stupid things. "Are you gonna decorate eggs?"

"All right." Emery agreed with a nod - she didn't want it after all. "If Shark does not eat it."
"How would one decorate an egg?" the girl inquired, having never heard of the concept before, "Is it like decorating a tree?"
