Xenos yawned and stretched on the rock he had chosen to sleep on the night before, his small claws clicking against the flat surface. He gazed with disinterest at the field of grass surrounding him, the trees in the distance, and the stream that snaked across the lush land. They were of no particular use to him at the moment, for he was well fed and quenched from the night before, and he felt no pleasure from lying about the soft grass.
Leaping off the rock, he headed towards the trees. His dull features were conspicuous against the bright grass around him, but he blended well enough in the shadows of the forest once he had reached it. There, some of the tenseness left his shoulders, for it was easier for him to blend with the background, which was almost the equivalent of becoming invisible, and the more who didn’t take notice of him, the better.
Starting up his trot again, he weaved between the trees, eyes half-closed with boredom. Few things in life thrilled him, but anything was better than lying around on a rock all day.

Escott smiled as he walked through the woods. He had gotten used to this freedom thing, and had gotten used to hunting and had gotten used to how the forest worked. He had found a nice den the other night to sleep in, he didn't like the openness still, he had been so open on the carousel and he wanted a little more closed in spaces. He yawned as he walked towards a river, maybe he could try fish this morning. He flicked his tail as he walked into the water and laughed. He still wasn't used to how excited he got in the water. He liked how it felt on his feet and made his fur feel. He looked over the water and wondered if he was really hungry or not.
He lifted his head and looked around with a smile as he heard someone near by and smiled as he walked out of the water towards the sound of someone else. Another person to talk to was more interesting then food. He walked into the trees and lifted his head. "Hello!?" He called out with a smile.Spicy Marmalade! Xenos caught the scents and sounds of the forest – the birds chirping, the leaves rustling, the fragrance of the flowers that grew near the edges of the trees – and noted them all. Not out of any affection or interest, but more out of habit. It was dangerous to keep oneself alive in this world. Not hard, unless one was disabled or something of the sort, but dangerous all the same, and he had no wish to die.
A family of ducks suddenly waddled by, and he paused to let them pass. A little duckling strayed too far and crashed into his paw before uttering a surprised quack. Its mother, mistaking it for one of distress, turned on him suddenly, beating her wings furiously and forcing him away. He hissed and bristled his fur in defense, to keep her from coming too close, and stalked away, nearing the stream the ducks had come from.
A voice called out to him suddenly, in greeting. For a second, he considered ignoring the male, but quickly changed his mind. He had already made himself noticeable, and most everyone was naturally curious. If he tried to hide away, whoever had spoken would be even more insistent on meeting him.
So he went closer to the speaker, whom he assumed was a male lion by scent, and replied back in his calm, almost toneless voice, “Hello.”

Escott smiled as he saw a fox come out of the trees. He smiled and walked closer. "Hi! How are you? Are you looking for food too? I'm fishing, want some?" he asked as he turned back to the water with a flick of his tail. He looked over his shoulder at the male and purred as he stepped into the water. this male was pretty cute, Escott would have to talk to him more and get to know him better.
"Do you like fish? I love it. Since i got free i've spent alot of time hunting and eating things." He said with a smile as he looked around at the water for where the fish were so that he could scoop one up when it got closer to him.

Xenos blinked. This lion was very talkative, and, for the moment, didn’t seem to mind that Xenos had yet to reply. Still, he didn’t want to be rude, and he sat where he was before he chose to respond, determined not to get his paws wet if he could help it. Sure, water dried quickly enough, but it left his feet feeling uncomfortable, even more so when debris clung to the moisture between the pads of his paws.
“I’m not hungry,” he answered simply, watching the lion. He had never met a feline who enjoyed going into water (and purred) when it wasn’t hot, but then again, everyone was different. Lions rarely, if ever, hunted fish, after all. They were built to go after prey such as deer and zebras, not sea creatures, but this one seemed intent on trying.
Wondering what the outcome would be, he remained silent, observing.

Escott watched the fishes. They forgot he was there and before he tried to grab one he looked at the male. "Not hungry? Ok then i'll just get one." He said with a smile as he watched the fish again and then grabbed for one. His jaws clambed around the middle of a large trout and he lifted his face from the water, his large main sticking to his face as he snorted water and air from his nose so that he could breath as he got out of the water and sat near the fox.
After making sure the fish was dead he took a step away and shook out his thick hair. "Much better!" He said with a smile as he walked over to the fish to eat it and looked at the Fox. "I don't think i introduced my self. I'm Escott! Its nice to meet you." he said as he bit into the fish. After a few bites the small fish was gone and he cleaned his paws. "I know fish isn't normal for a lion as big as me but i've just enjoyed hunting everything since i learned how to." He said with a smile as he licked his lips.

Xenos watched as the lion fished, and he almost laughed when the male caught a wriggling fish, for his mane and fur grew dark and heavy with the water that clung to it, making it seem as if the weight of it would bow his head. Of course, he didn’t think of it in a demeaning way – only as something comedic that was one day bound to happen if the lion continued to fish. He kept it to himself out of politeness, but couldn’t help the smile that grew on his lips. He didn’t even mind when some water landed on him, after he had taken the effort to sit at a distance so that water wouldn’t reach him in the first place.
“Xenos,” he replied, his monotonous expression soon returning. He looked a bit to the side, away from the lion and his meal, to show he was uninterested in the fish and to discourage any aggressive or territorial behavior. He had come to notice male lions could be extremely picky about eating orders, always demanding the first bite within their pride. This was why he was thankful he came from the carousel as a fox, if he had to come out as anything at all. They were more solitary creatures, and didn’t bicker about food much unless hungry.
“I see,” he said blandly. The lion could radiate enough happiness for the both of them he figured.

Escott smiled at him and laughed as he cleaned some scales off his lips and feet. He looked up at the fox male as he finished. "So what are you doing out this way if your not hungry?" he asked with a smile. "You seem to pretty to be out here on your own with no one to help you, or keep you safe. Are you looking for something?" He asked sitting up and curling his tail around his feet. He shook his drying mane some more to get it to try and be fluffy again, it was starting to stick together all weird like and he didn't feel pretty like he liked to. He licked at his chest for a moment to get his reddish blond hair to look nicer.

Xenos tilted his head curiously at the male, not a the questions, for he had come to notice them to be common (a way to bond with another, he figured), but at what he was asked (and, yes, there was a difference between the two).
“I was curious,” he answered honestly. Then, with another curious flick of his ears, he continued. “Do I require protection?” he asked. It had never occurred to him to need one. It was true he had been able to take care of himself up to this point, and he had yet to be in need of aid. But there was always the possibility, and he was still new to this world. It was possible protection was needed, but how would one know who was a protector, and who needed protecting?
“Well… I am looking for something,” he added thoughtfully. “But I haven’t been able to find it yet.”
