(( Private RP for Colonel (mistalina13) & Deidre (Ririka) no posting without permission please. ))
How long had it been since he had really been out into the wilderness?
Truthfully, years. He hadn't been on a real walkabout since long before his children were born. Now they were long since grown, had children of their own (at least Leilani did) and they had children of their own. It was time for him to do something truly for himself; that wasn't selfish was it? Colonel paused and looked back toward the village. There was nothing to worry about he would be back soon enough and his two legger could manage on his own for the time being. The young man's leg had mended some and he could walk without a support for a time.
The deep brown stallion set off into the woods, tromping through the underbrush at a steady pace. It was still early morning so the air was refreshingly nippy. This truly was a wonderful morning to be out and about. Sounds of the forest reached his ears: birds chirping, squirrels and chimpunks hoping about in the trees, the sound of water from a distant creek. The latter starting to sound appealing after a while of walking.
Colonel wound his way through to the clearing that held a nice clear part of the creek. He bent his head and drank a bit of water, taking a bit to catch his breath. The stallion may be older but he was still in decent shape for long excursions. His coat was neat and his mane and tail well kept, partly thanks to his two legger. The male wore no adornments as he had in his youth. His posture was open and approachable, there wasn't a whole lot in this forest that could frighten him anymore.

A lone leaf danced gracefully with the early morning wind, its movements so natural, and yet seemed so directed and coordinated. The wind lead it up high, and then sailed it to the ground only to twist and turn it until it nestled it carefully on to the river’s top where it would be sailed along in a peaceful manner.
Pale lavender eyes watched as the lone leaf swayed and swirled around her ankles as she stood within the body of the river. She had meant to continue with her never-ending journey, but something told her to stop and look around at her surrounding.
She did not know why, it was not as if the forest was any different from any other area. It was not as if she had not seen the early morning bustle of the forest life before. The birds always waked and took flight for food. The squirrels always poked their heads from within their shelter and scrambled around. The hawks and foxes always waited patiently for said squirrels to make one wrong move. It was all the same, all day, everyday. Nothing new; nothing exciting, just the same old thing.
With a sigh escaping her lips, the mare slowly shifted and moved to step out of the river. However, something was quick the stop her. The sound of something large, at least larger than the usual sounds of the smaller mammals, was approaching the riverbank. Could it have been another horse, or some humans heading this way?
Deirdre slowly shifted back in to her place, her pale eyes scanning the area like a hawk on the hunt. She was not one to run in to much of her own kind, especially with her hidden fear, so to see another would be out of place. That did not matter though, because within due time the figure of a male appeared, and Deirdre could not exactly bolt out without looking psychotic or out of it in some sense.
All she could do was stay frozen in place while watching the stallion with careful and suspicious eyes.

Colonel's ears perked at the sound of something coming up along the river. It was too heavy to be anything particularly small, like a fox or a wolf. Perhaps it was a bear, now out of its long slumber, looking for food? He lifted his head, scanning along the riverbed and its banks. Nothing seemed out of place at first, a few small creatures skittering along the trees, birds singing as they flew about in the morning air. No sign of the source of the noise...
Wait.
His eyes picked out a shape a bit further down the river, where the bed ran a bit deeper. Was that the source of the noise? The brown stallion watched the figure for a moment, looking for signs of movement and there were none. Had he spooked the creature somehow? Colonel bent his head again, taking another drink from the river, watching the figure out of the corner of his eye. If it seemed like he didn't notice, maybe it would continue on its path.
