Here we will discuss what might occur, or what we want to occur, in book 13.

I think that the book might ACTUALLY have a picture of what Lemony looks like, not just a shadow.

I have a feeling it will be extremely and intentionally disappointing, but one can only hope for the best.

OH man...so much stuff!

-Explination of Count Olaf's familial tragedy
-Update on triplets
-Birth/Death of Kit's Baby and the exposure of it's paternal origins.
-More hints as to what could possibly be in the sugar bowl, although anything definate on this subject is probably not going to surface.
-The fate of the temporary inhbaitants at the hotel denoument
-The fate of the baudelaire orphans, as there can't possibly be a happy end with a guardian and their friends all living together in joy and harmony.
-A small final reunion of the surviving members of both factions of VFD..maybe a showdown/breakdown between the orphans and olaf...

this is all i can think of for now...i need to go through all the books on CD now with my common place book and dig up more.

I think that the Baudelaires will join Count Olaf. I know, this sounds ridiculous, but let me explain. First off, that wouldn't be a happy ending at all. Second, the most recent book seems to focus on wether or not the Baudelaires are good people, and they seem to have serious doubts about it. I don't think they're bad people, but they might just give up and say: Well, we've done so many treacherous things... If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Also, that would give sort of a point/moral to the whole series. Great travesty eventally wears people down and amid hopelessness they cling to whatever they can. In this case, villainy.

I think that one of the siblings is going to die. If not two. It was mentioned in an early book (I believe the Second) that when Klaus was an adult he looked back at the events of the second book and regretted not getting into a taxi or somesuch, so Klaus is the only one we know for sure will survive.

My personal hope is that at the very least the Baudelaires can end up on the self-sustaining mobile home with the Quagmires. Even if they were still on the run, they would be among friends.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that the same thing is said about Violet as well...

Yeah, I don't think the siblings will die, only because it seems so predictable. Y'know, let's give this series a sad ending: everybody dies! Also, LS is constantly saying that his whole purpose is telling the Baudelaire story. If their story is just that they get murdered by Count Olaf or something, why bother with all that happens in between? They might as well have been killed off in the first book.

I actually had another thought, too, rereading Penultimate Peril.

What if Olaf abandons his attempts to kill the Baudelaires because their fortune is gone? There was something in the twelvth book that seemed to imply that Mrs. Remora, who is evidently now a bank robber, had stolen their fortune.

Oooo, that would make a lot of sense. I too must re-read TPP. I like that because then my theory may work. If they're not rich, then they really have nothing. No parents, no home, no friends (unless the Quagmires crash-land somewhere). So, going over to the 'dark side' might be nessesary, in their minds anyway. Also, that would pretty much prevent Olaf from offing them, since there's no cash in it. Unless he does it out of principle, which is possible too.

They'd better not die... crying

I will seriously cry if they die...I really, really will.

I think that Lemony Snicket'll explain everything that we're all confused about...and I think that maybe one of the Baudelaire parents will be found..or maybe I'm being a bit too optimistic about the 13th book having a happy ending...
I think like Charles...

It's obviously Dewey's. xp

hey, if he can hint at a character being transexual, he can hint at kit loving someone who didn't father her child. Until I see a close enough approximation of "dewey is the father of kit's baby" then i don't believe it..why wouldn't he just come out and say it in the book, if it were true?

I see your point, but I think it's 'Obviously Dewey's' Not because there's no possibility of it being someone else's but because there's really no one else mentioned that it could be. I assume Kit would father the child with someone she loves. Too be honest, while I was reading the book, I thought it might be Olaf's, but then Dewey came into the picture.
