[First post]
Kuma moved through the grassy open plains of the training grounds, he looked around, waiting for someone. In his time at 7th he had made a few connections and managed to find a master of Eskrima in Rukongai, he had arranged to meet him here with permission of the guards ofcourse. His name was Krishna Santos and appeared quite old. However, as Kuma spotted him in the distance he saw that he was still indeed quick on his feet. Darting across the grassland he reached Kuma and smiled to him. "It's good to see you Kuma Hageshii, have you prepared yourself for this? I will teach you hand to hand combat and some work with rattan sticks" He smiled as hhe stood in usual dress sence of Rukongai with a long moustache and beard with a scar slicing through it. Kuma bowed his head in respect "Kumusta na?(how are you)" Kuma asked as the old man smiled laughing slightly and replied "Ok lang" Kuma stepped back slightly following Krishna.
"The first thing to teach you are the basics, let's start with Labai" The old man smiled as he provoked Kuma to throw a punch. Firing a jab the old man gripped the wrist and pushed it to the side slightly as Kuma followed with with the other hand, that too had been captured, the old man rotated the arms locking them at the elbows, this lock gave enough force to flip the attacker or atleast dislocate the arms. Kuma was sent over onto the ground. Getting to his feet Kuma dusted himself off. "Good good, you have a strong punch, sadly that doesn't mean much in the world of eskrima" Moving Kumas arms and legs into a basic stance he nodded to him and spoke out what was expected. "Catch the wrist and push it aside, then the second causing a cross section, then rotate in the direction you caught first." Kuma nodded and just glanced up in time as a fist hurtled towards him, catching it with his left he then caught the right and rotated both of them, flipping the old man on the spot, however he broke out before he hit the ground. The movements were sloppy, and he didn't have a tight enough grip but Krishna addressed this and went over it again with Kuma.
"Ok let us try this again before we move on" Krishna said as he got into a quick stance, swinging at Kuma his wrist was caught, using his over hand to push behind the elbow, this time smoothly and tightly, then the second was gripped as the two crossed over one another. Kuma then rotated the two anti clockwise using the locked arms as levers, putting enough strength into it to push it through, this time he rotated the old man to the ground, the move needed to be straight from the second being captured to a rotation in order to use the momentum of the attacker againstt them. Standing the old man smiled "That's more like it"

[Second post]
Returning to the basic stance the old man stated what was next. "We shall now try Pamalut, this starts basically the same as Labai, however this is not aimed to take the attacker down, just weaken their arm and send a definative blow to the neck region" pausing Krishna decided it would be better to just show Kuma, he beckoned for Kuma to strike and as he did Krishna pushed the fist to the side and gripped it as before, however he gripped Kuma at the elbow with his other hand and pulled the arm forward, keeping the arm held at the elbow but leaving the wrist his right hand came up and he slammed his forearm into the bicep of Kuma. Finishing with a back hand to the neck. Releasing Kuma staggered back. "Nothing like no pain no gain eh?" Kuma laughed as he rubbed his neck. Krishna walked over and went through it slowly to show Kuma as this was a fast paced move, the gripping was a strong part here as each needed to be executed perfectly in order finish properly.
Kuma stood in the basic eskrima stance standing sidewards on with feet shoulders length apart. He nodded giving the all clear to attack. Krishna threw his fist forward as Kuma pulled his arm across, however he didn't grip the wrist in time and it slid out from his opening, Krishna had a scowl upon his face as he slammed his other fist into Kumas chest knocking him back. "What the hell was that" Krishna called out with disappointment in his voice, after the first move had gone so smoothly he was hoping they all would, signalling to go again he threw his fist forward. This time Kuma pushed it aside and almost instantly rotated his hand and gripped Krishna by the wrist, he locked his other hand onto the old mans elbow and yanked him forward, releasing the wrist and slamming his forearm into Krishnas bicep and finished by back handing his neck. He then released completely and stepped back. He was certain he wouldn't dissapoint Krishna again and would give it his everything.
"Good, that's more like it. Now you can add a little extra depending on how fast your hands are, simply by hitting the neck twice with fast and sure hits, this increases the damage dealt by alot, but not all are fast enough" The old man laughed in a way Kuma took as challenging. Kuma nodded with a smirk and beckoned, as the fist shot forward at a faster rate Kuma knocked it aside, gripped it and dragged Krishna forward by the grip on his elbow, this was in one continuous motion as he brought his forearm up to strike the old mans bicep again he quickly snapped two back hands against the side of Krishnas neck before releasing him. "That was good, I didn't think you had the speed, thought you was just a heavy hitter. I think that is good enough for that one, now we shall move onto the next, this one is called Baliog Pamali, it's a takedown defence"

[Third post]
The old man had moved back into the basic stance and raised his hands in a provoking motion "Come for a takedown, I shall perfom Baliog Pomali, then I shall go through it step by step with you" Kuma nodded and moved in for a takedown, however, the old man grabbed his right wrist, outstretched the arm and hooked his free hand into the outstretched arm pit with his forearm resting upon the back of Kumas neck, pushing downward he forced Kuma to his knees as he dropped his weight through his forearm onto the back of Kumas neck. Letting go he stepped back and bowed his head. "Works doesn't it" Krishna said with a cheeky smile. The old man was losening up slightly and moved Kuma into the basic stance as he moved forward to perform a takedown, stopping he pointed out that if one of his arms had been taken the takedown becomes almost ineffective with that alone, with the hook under the armpit it gives the support to the forearm on the back of the neck, preventing any chance of standing up to break free. Now all that was left was to use their momentum against them by applying your body weight as you drop down onto a knee forcing them to their knees or highly strain their neck by trying to refuse and stay standing.
Now it was Kumas turn as he stepped back and prepared, running through the process again he realised how what Krishna had told him before really applied, Eskrima was created for villagers to learn easily yet be highly effective, and this really was simple but effective movements - once you got your head around it and practised anyway. Signalling he was ready Kuma grappled the right hand of Krishna and outstretched it, following with his hand under the armpit of the old man and applying preessure downwards with his body weight, forcing him to the ground. Stepping back and releasing Kuma shook his head. "That was to slow, it needs to be quicker and smoother don't you think?" Krishna nodded in agreement but he was satisfied with the move, he was slightly worried that Kuma was expecting to much from his work but was quite happy that he gave it his all.
Repeating the process Kuma pulled the arm out, placed his second and shifted his weight to force Krishna to the ground, this time the speed was far better and the grips landed. 'So far so good, I hope I can keep ontop of this though, I think it's coming quite naturally though' Kuma thought to himself as he repeated the process again to perfect it. "Now we will quickly go over basic footwork before I introduce you to some weapon work which can work with or without weapons" Kuma nodded as he watched Krishna move into position and continue speaking. "Basically this is called Hakbang, it is pivoting footwork watch as I move and try to copy" Keeping his forward foot in place he would shift his rear left and right creating a triangle motion, this always helped for using the persons momentum against them. Kuma copied and got the basic idea of it as it was simply a point to help.

[Fourth post]
The old man reached behind him where he had place a weapons bag, removing the strap the circled his body he dropped the bag onto the ground, knelt down to it and began to open it. He reached inside and looked up to Kuma. "This is the basic weapon of Eskrima, but the techniques that I shall teach you can be done unarmed with slight adjustments. First I shall let you get warmed up then we shall go through some basics with them before we move on to techniques" He removed four sticks from the bag, each was roughly 28 inches in length and had segments like with bambo, a tan colour with diagonal stripes of dark brown. Handing two over to Kuma he nodded and smiled before he stood and replace the bag to his back. "These are Rattan sticks, you can either fight with one or two at a tiime, depending how you feel, ofcourse we will work with a mixture. These ones in particular are named Palasan, they are tougher and more durable" Getting into the basic stance again Krishna continued. "We will go over some basic attacks first the main moves being Redondo and Abaniko"
Getting used to the feel of the sticks Kuma practised moving them around and performing some basic thrusts and diagonal moves. The first of the more well used moves Kuma would practise was Redondo as the old man instructed him on how he could rotate the stick in a 360 degree circle by twisting his wrist, this would be done with both hands rotating on the spot. This seemed fairly straight forward to Kuma as it wasn't a complex move, but then Krishna had him start using redondo before and after performing a strike with the stick. Slamming the stick in a vertical position, bringing it in a downward strike Kuma then performed a rodondo and dragged the stick horizontally from left to right. This was just one of the benefits of rodondo, it could protect the hand as the user altered the direction of attacks with what could be classed as a miniture attack aswell if need be. After a while of practising Krishna nodded giving the sign to move onto the next move.
The second move of basic stick control would be Abaniko, this was a basic fan motion from left to right. This was more of a defence making almost a full circle it would knock an attacking weapon away, also an opponent fighting with bare hands. Kuma was instructed to throw forward an attack and then followed with abaniko, moving the stick in an anti clockwise direction before bringing it back foor a shot landing at head height. Although mainly defensive performing it in such a way altered the attack into a counter, this action was similar to going for a hook punch and then bringing the fist back for a backhand, one of the simple alterations to make it fit in with the mano mano (hand to hand) side of eskrima. Moving over the two with and without sticks working on both weapon and hand to hand Kuma bowed his head to Krishna. "I think I have that down, I never considered uusing a weapon like that let alone my punches, the change of direction is amazing" Krishna agreed, acknowledging that Kuma seemed fairly natural to this and questioned him upon his shikai, thinking of his zanpaktou, after all if that was similar to how eskrima uses stick it would explain alot. However Kuma shook his head. "I'm currently unseated but I hope to change that when I get the chance, but that also means I haven't achieved my shikai aswell" Saying nothing Krishna simply turned ready for the next set of techniques. Kuma hadn't known why but simply felt he was dissapointed that he was such a low ranked shinigami, but then again he must have understood that he was rising in his ability and obviously had potential to be learning eskrima so well. Sighing to himself he moved into position and decided he would prove his worth to Krishna.

[Fifth post]
"Arrrrgh, I knew I missed something, I may as well teach you the first five basic attacks and defence before we go on" Krishna said as he moved into position, stick in hand, stating the number he showed Kuma the move, 1 was a diagonal strike down from the right shoulder, 2 pulled the stick back across to the right, 3 dragged it across the would be chest of the opponent to the left, 4 switched positions of the feet shifting left foot forward and pulling the stick across the throat region, finishing with 5, a basic jab forward. Those were all he needed to know for now as they were the first 5 of 12. Kuma copied the movements again and again in chains to keep the moves memorised. Once he had mastered these attacks Krishna moved on to teach the defence for these moves, in basic the stick would block the weapon but the spare hand would stop their hand, blockingg them from following through. Hand to hand, stick to stick, that was how Kuma remembered it.
"Good, for now we shall leave it to the first five techiques, maybe some other time I shall teach you the rest, but they are the basics, now you need to know the waving technique and punyo" Getting back into position Krishna pointed out that this was mainly used for largo mano(long ranged stick fighting) basically it was the smooth motion to move forward with your body weight for the attack and shift the weight back for a retreat, giving a wave like motion. "Now show me number 1 using the waving technique to reach me" Krishna asked, standing 1 to 2 metres away. Kuma raised the stick so it touched his right shoulder, right foot forward he shifted his weight as he attacked, pulling the stick downward his torso moved forward pushing more power behind the attack and reaching further forward, then as the attack landed he pulled his torso back dragging the weight with it and returning to a safe distance, almost in a perfect wave like motion. Kuma smiled to Krishna "I like that, it's like testing your range but being able to land a good hit. You can also use it with any of the 5 techniques, also the blocking, it's so simple yet so effective." He was almost shocked by how easy the manouvers were when he learnt them yet he would never have considered fighting like that.
Moving onto punyo Krishna was showing the last of the attacking moves with only defensive moves left, he didn't want to push him too hard with him only being a beginner, but he wanted him to be skilled with many techniques, enough to have achieved a good knowledge and be worthy of calling himself a stick fighter if desired. The rest he could learn at a later date. Pointing out how he showed Kuma to grip the stick he commented "See now if you leave too much of the stick at the bottom it's simple for me to do this" He paused as he gripped the stick that pertruded from below his fist and twisted it, forcing Kuma to let go. "But aslong as you leave about an inch at the most you can use it in multiple ways, mainly to hook your opponents wrists to drag their arms away, and to use for punyo" Informing Kuma to attack Krishna side stepped such as the defence for number 5, he then gripped the wrist and with the bottom of the stick moved his hand towards Kuma's throat, the reverse of the stick wwas just as deadly, if he had followed through with the attack Kuma would have been drastically damaged. Krishna pointed out it was a simple way of using a closer attack to a soft area to deal much more damage than a normal mid range attack. Kuma attempted the attack as Krishna dodged multiple times, however he noticed that Kuma underrstood the benefit of this attack and that he tried to be inventive and unprodictable, for this he was impressed.

[Sixth post]
Krishna smiled to Kuma, he had obviously been happy about his progress so far and admired his spirit, only two techniques were left for him to learn and after that Krishna had a little surprise, he intended on challenging Kuma to test the techniques he had learnt and to see how he could fight with the arnis sticks. Moving into his stance again Krishna smirked to Kuma before speaking. "This one should be simple, just a case of disarming your opponent, some people rarely use this but others base their fighting style on it." Beconing for Kuma to attack he continued his style of teaching, showing how to do it then continueing with Kuma trying until he got it right. Coming in with the swing of number 1, a basic downward slash with the stick, Krishna knocked the stick aside with his, gripped Kuma by the wrist and stepped forward to pull his stick back across Kumas side, he then loosened his grip and slid it from Kumas wrist to his stick as he followed with a strike to the wrist of Kuma, the strike caused him to let go of his stick as Krishna pulled it away and dropped it, he finished by pulling the stick back across the face off Kuma. He didn't hold back now with the sparring match coming closer, he wanted Kuma to feel the pain, and feel anger, fueling him to snap, he wanted to see how he could control himself.
Running his hand over his face Kuma rubbed the wound, opening and closing his jaw it had been indeed a heavy hit. He shook it off and returned the smirk to Krishna. "I thought you had gotten to old to hit anymore" Kuma mocked to the old man as he moved back into his stance. Krishna moved forward without warning, slamming his stick toward Kuma, however he batted it to the side and gripped his wrist, he then twisted his stick and pulled it up into the right side of Krishna and pulled it back in the opposite direction yet again, slamming it down on his wrist seconds after shifting his hand to the stick. Krishna let go instantly, the pain being too much, Kuma then dropped the stick behind him as he smashed the stick across Krishnas face with equal power to his strike upon Kuma.
He then stepped back and watched how Krishna gripped his cheek, he had dropped to one knee from the blow, but quickly got to his feet, a look of rage upon his face, giving a fake smile he felt angry at the fact that a student could land such a blow in training, however he had performed the same trick moments ago, and the blow was of equal strength. Sighing to himself Krishna gave a smile of forgivness as he glanced at Kuma. Now it was down to the final technique as Krishna developed a thirst for blood so to speak, he was looking forward to fighting Kuma, as if his attempts at pushing Kuma to his limits had began to back fire.

[Seventh post]
"Ok let us begin the final technique, then you will have mastered all you need to know, the rest will come with experience and from practise. We shall now begin Pangilog, this is a basic defence against someone with a weapon, to counter their attack and leave them at your desposal" With that the old man smiled and prepared himself, returning to his stance he stretched his neck slightly and rotated his hands, then, as before he moved forward, running through the moves slowly, as Kuma moved for the attack Krishna knocked the weapon to the side, locking his spare hand onto Kuma's, he then slid his hand under Kumas captured hand and locked Kuma's weapon under his arm, gripping it beneath his armpit. Now he had leverage as the weapon gave advatage to Krishna, he simply applied pressure with his hand using his spare to reinforce the action and Kuma dropped to his knees. Letting him to his feet Krishna smiled again. "Simple but effective right?"
The two men returned to their stances as it was Kumas turn to perform the move. As Krishna moved in for the basic attack Kuma knock the stick aside with his and locked his hand over Krishna, he then looped his arm around, under Krishna's. Catching the stick under his arm he had him under control now, as all he had left to do was to gain full control and bring him to the ground, however Kuma had lost concentration and Krishna took full advantage, freeing himself within seconds and giving Kuma a quick backhand for punishment. He tutted at him and returned to his stance, beconing for Kuma to try again.
Kuma rubbed the side of his face as the backhand had left a stinging sensation. Before he had time to fully recover however Krishna had leapt in with and attack. Kuma blocked, knocking it aside he gripped Krishna's hand, with speed he brought his arm around, looping it in a lock to capture Krishna. This caused Krishna to be trapped with his arm fully extended, and as the move was intended Kuma applied pressure, forcing the opponent to drop or have the elbow invert. Krishna dropped as he gritted his teeth. Kuma smirked as he stood above the old man. Letting go he stepped back. The old man stood with a stern face, nodding slightly in approval.

[Eighth post]
Krishna Looked on to the young student, he had worked hard and definately showed potential, afterall he learnt quickly. He was proud and knew this was definately a style the shinigami would benefit from, it was perfect for his fight style. The old man then looked to the student, his eyes were cold, empty and completely lacking in emotion. "Now boy, it is time for your final lesson. This will decide wether I teach you further or not, wether you pass or fail, and wether you have the true fighting spirit of an eskrima master or not. We shall have a fight, not a spar, but a fight, I want you to give your all, if not I won't hesitate to kill you boy, understood? I do not like to waste my time and if you cannot even stand against myself how can you progress further than myself and become a true master? I understand you prefer not to kill, but you should always be able to put the opponent out of order. Feel free to use all of your ability, hand to hand, arnis stick, zanpakto if you must." Krishna laughed, ofcourse he assumed Kuma would use eskrima techniques that he had just learnt but he wanted to tempt him just as much. He wanted to toy with him, play with his mind a little and possibly even anger him.
Kuma Looked on, Krishna had a different attitude within himself, he seemed different. Kuma knew this was going to be big, but what did he mean about further training, spirit and failing, Kuma was certain he would pass and he had the heart to win, and as for further training he loved to improvehis skills. Kuma had previously removed his zanpakto and set it down, he still let it remaiin their as he opted for the arnis stick, just one within his right hand as he entered the eskrima stance and watch Krishna. "I'm ready old man, and don't worry I don't intend to kill you, simply put you down until you give." Kuma watched, waiting for the first move, however Krishna didn't move. Kuma decided it wouldn't hurt if he made the first move and decided to move in. Striking with the basic 5 strikes, he moved for the fourth, bringing the stick from just below his hip on the left of his body up diagonally to the right of his body. Krishna.
Krishna blocked with the simple block he had taught Kuma, knocking the stick back slightly as his hand met Kuma's, Krishna then locked onto Kuma's wrist and dragged him towards him and sent the butt of his stick towards Kuma's face. Kuma took the shot head on as Krishna let go and let the student stumble backwards as blood dripped from his nose and mouth. He wasn't joking when he said he would happily kill the student and he hoped the boy would realise that now. Kuma Pulled his hand across his mouth, seeing the blood he removed his hat and dropped it to the ground by his zanpakto. He glanced up to Krishna and smirked. "Ok, I guess there is no avoiding it, let's get this thhing started already"

[Ninth post]
Krishna was slightly set back by this change in personality from the student, he now appeared to be full of determination, yet blood thirsty. Krishna ran in to finish the fight quick, he shot off to strikes, the first was a basic straight down slash with the stick, Kuma side stepped this, but the second was from the side, copying Kuma's last move. Kuma decided he was going to win, at the end of the day he wanted to prove he learnt alot. Taking the basics from the disarming technique he knocked the stick aside and caught the hand, he then moved it above himself in an ark like motion, shifting the attacking arm to Kuma's left, holding it with his left hand. He then slammed his stick down into the open wrist of Krishna causing him to almost drop his stick. Instantly Kuma changed his target, dragging his stick up, parallel with Krishna's arm, reaching his head. The stick slammed against his head before Kuma twisted the stick in a circular motion in order to change direction again, this time going back for the stick. He removed his grip and smashed his stick into Krishna's, knocking it clean from his hand as it was already loose.
Kuma then jumped back, as he had left Krishna without a weapon, he then dropped his stick to the ground as he continued to breath heavily, needing to use his mouth as his nose was more than likely broke from the first counter blow. "Seems you expected me to stick to the moves you taught me, well sometimes it's best to just take the basics and make something new from that. After all that is how martial arts evolve right?" Kuma said as he returned to his fight stance. "Now let's keep it fair eh? you have been disarmed so I shall not use my weapon either, quite literally hand to hand now" Kuma said calmly. Krishna looked on, panting heavily he shook slightly, loosening himself. "I was worried I had wasted my time at first, but that was good. Don't bother showing me pity though, after all I wouldn't give you the same courtesy, but as you stated, hand to hand it is" Krishna ran in with a strike for Kuma's head. Knocking it aside with his right Kuma followed through with a left uppercut. Krishna took the blow but managed to grip Kuma by the throat, simply to keep a note of the location of his head. He sent a hook from his left hand before letting go of the throat and sending in a right hook. Kuma took the shots as he moved backwards.
It was clear that an all out slug fest wouldn't get the two very far as it wouldn't give much chance for them to express the techniques they knew as they were to tempted to just hit back. Both panted more now as both hand been bruised and bloodied. Kuma moved in for a strike, as Krishna knocked it aside and pushed against the elbow giving inverted pressure, remembering his fight style. Kuma felt the quick and sharp pain run up his arm. Recovering back to his stance Krishna ran forward springing into a shot for Kuma's head, Kuma gripped his wrist as hhe moved to the side, pulling Krishna toward him he sent a backhand into the side of his head, letting go of the wrist he attempted a hook punch to finish a combo, however Krishna managed to pull his head back, using the wave motion he moved in after the dodge and landed a basic jab on Kuma's nose. This would not usually have been damaging but the fact that his nose was broke already meant it hurt Kuma bad as blood flowed freely now.

[Final post]
The two had to regain some breath now as they both had blood on their face and bruised bodies, the battle had gone on for a while and Kuma definately showed he could keep to the pace and even control the pace. Krishna came in for a shot, Kuma knocked it aside with a circular motion rotating anti clockwise with his left arm. He then sent in his right fist for Krishna's head. However, Krishna managed to do the same, a circular motion to knock the arm away, leaving the opponent open for a shot. Kuma knocked the arm away with his left and managed to grip the wrist of Krishna, planning to force him to his knees as his left hand went for his elbow, however Kuma missed his target and landed by Krishna's shoulder. Krishna took advantage and gripped Kuma's wrist with his free hand, pulling on it as Kuma hadn't locked it just yet. This pulled Kuma down slightly closer to Krishna, giving him leeway to bend his arm and pull Kuma into his elbow. As Kuma's chest hit Krishna's elbow it forced him to release his grip and step back in pain, it was close but due to lack of energy he couldn't finish it.
Krishna took a final shot for Kuma, putting everything he had into it, Kuma shifted his weight and knocked it aside as he gripped it, he had been training for some time now and could anticipate Krishna's basic movements. Frustrated and letting down his guard Krishna threw in another strike with his spare hand, same strike with the same power, forgetting how easiily this could set him up for failure, as long as Kuma remembered and had the strength to pull it off. Kuma did remember and gripped the second hand, causing Krishna to have his arms stuck, Kuma then threw everything he had left into rotating the two, using Krishna's arms and weight against him as he was taught. Krishna didn't have enough left to counter and simply let Kuma finish the fight, flipping he crashed to the ground, looking up at Kuma, who stood strong, yet forced to give his all, broken and bloody he managed to pull it off.
Kuma was panting heavily as he dropped to his knees with his head down, laughing between gasps of breath. Happiness filled him as he looked on at Krishna. The two shared a glance momentarily before Kuma forced himself up to his feet and gave Krishna a hand up. "You know, for an oldtimer you ain't so bad" Kuma laughed. Krishna picked up the two arnis sticks and gave them both to Kuma. "For a little brat you're not too bad either" Krishna laughed back. "These are now yours, you have passed and I would be happy to spar again sometime, feel free to ask if there is more you wish to learn. For the record, you definately have the spirit to become a master" The old man smiled as he bowed his head, he then began to clean his face and turned to pick up his things. Kuma sat by his zanpakto, returned his hat calling out to the old man. "Salamat po('thank you'in a respectful manner)" The old man waved as he walked away. Kuma felt his eyes dropping as he fell into a nap before he could run off to get healed.
