Lets! I'd like to start by viewing our familiar world from the cosmic perspective

Science is a lot like language. Most people know more about it than they think they do, and most people use it everyday despite thinking that it is something restricted to classrooms.

Astronomy specifically can be summed up in two short sentences:
1 Go outside when the weather is clear.
2 Look up.

Astronomy is the study of the heavens. Looking at and learning about all the things that exist or events that happen above our little planet are an excellent way to understand our place in the cosmos. It inspires me personally and makes me want to ask more questions. That is another definition of science to me: looking at the things in life which we don't understand and asking questions.

Sorry I come in too late to this discussion, but I am an astronomy nut. I love it! (execpt long hours perched on a hard stool looking at the same point in the sky over and over....) So what about astronomy don't you get?

It's kind of like math. We use math in our daily lives without knowing it, and math actually plays a part in astronomy as well. Science and math become one in all the different scientific theories in all fields of science. I hate math too.
