Just keep pedalling, just keep pedalling, what do we do, we pedal, pedal.

...It didn't quite have the same ring to it, but it was all that was running through Peyton's head as she continued pedalling, her bike moving through the park now as she approached her last scheduled break. She had to schedule the breaks at points during her cycle, or she'd just take a break whenever she wanted. Which would be very often, and the whole point of the exercise would be wasted. The children's playpark, which was the main feature in this part of the large, green expanse of land in the middle of Destiny City, was just on the horizon, she could even see it!

Looking incredibly attractive, with her hair scraped back in a loose ponytail, a too-big rugby shirt of her older brother's and some black leggings, rounded off with her trainers and her iPod blasting in her ears, she was gasping for air as she finally allowed herself to slow down and stop, climbing off of the bicycle with a wince, leaning it up against the fence of the children's playpark as she grabbed her water bottle from it's holder, taking a couple of large gulps.

Sure, exercise was fun...but boy, it wasn't attractive.

Damon liked exercising too.

These days he got more exercise than usual, since he didn't like having anyone else with him during his daily jogs, and he had to take Belle out for walks. It was hard to jog with a curious puppy who liked to sniff everything and everyone, so after a few days of trying, Damon had eventually given up and made walking the dog a separate part of his exercise regime.

And so, that was how he had managed to get out today, alone, with track pants and a sleeveless shirt, going on his daily jog without any interference from Belle; straining at her leash to investigate something, or trying to make friends with other dogs, or wanting to chase stray cats.

That was until he saw someone familiar in the distance, and it was only when he ran nearer that he confirmed who it was. "...Peyton?"

Head up, downing a few more gulps of water, Peyton choked when she heard her name, called by quite a familiar voice. Choking for a few moments, cheeks flushing a bright pink, hazel eyes loked up to spot Damon running towards her, Peyton managing a small, somewhat feeble wave as she tried to clear her throat.

Note to self: Inhaling water was a bad idea.

Finally clearing her throat, she managed a strained "Hey,", offering a smile and another wave as she banged her fist against her chest to clear up the last bit. "...Sorry. Water...inhaling...yeah. Bad idea."

Ohgods, could she seem like any more of an idiot?

"Be careful." Were the only words of concern he offered; Damon didn't seem to look too particularly suspicious as to why she had gone on that coughing fit. He attributed it to being shocked when least expecting to be called on. Many of his classmates had done the same when Killingworth had called on them out of the blue, although they knew exactly why they had been called out by their gym teacher...

"...Nice day for exercise, huh?"

Damon really wasn't particularly good at conversing, even if it was with someone he knew. Especially if it was with someone he knew in Meadowview and then never really talked to when he had been transferred to Hillworth.

Her cheeks were practically burning in embarrassment, and she quickly 'fiddled' with her hair to cover up the red cheeks. Not that the red streaks in her naturally raven-black hair did anything to hide it. She offered a sweet smile and a nod at his words of concern, the usually chatty girl suddenly somewhat lost for words. There was no way she was going to start talking about the weather, not a chance in hell. That was so....so...cliche!

Oh, but he'd already started. Inwardly groaning and kicking herself, Peyton outwardly maintained her usually bright smile, accompanying it with an eager nod. "Yeah, it's beautiful? ...How've you been, Damon, I haven't seen you around for a while! Didn't you get a puppy?" she asked, trying to sound as interested as she genuinely was, but failing a little due to her exhaustion from the exercise, hazel eyes glancing around, half-expecting to see a puppy at his feet.

"Pretty busy." He said shortly, a hand scratching the back of his head. "Mom's been trying to keep my schedule as full as possible so I don't get into any more trouble." And certainly, taking care of a puppy was hard enough work, and to top it all off, his mother liked handing him grocery lists and make him do the shopping. She evidently hadn't gotten over the Hillworth incident, and Damon didn't really blame her, accepting his new duties quietly.

At the mention of Belle, the boy blinked and looked down at his feet, as if expecting the puppy to have followed him along. "Yeah, but she's taken her walk already. She's a bit of a hassle to bring along during my jogs."

Busy? Damon? Peyton frowned, a little confused, though when he explained the reason behind her she gave a soft, "Ohhh," of realization, nodding to show she understood, expression softening. The Hillworth incident...well, it hadn't really been his fault. He just had a really short temper, and anyone who knew him knew to avoid getting him angry. And one sure-fire way to get him angry was via cheating. It had been over a year ago now, but clearly his mother hadn't quite let it go yet. "Well, at least it can help take your mind off of everything else?" she suggested, trying to help.

He looked to his feet and Peyton frowned, a little confused. "Ohhh, okay," she nodded, smiling once more. A puppy on a jog did seem a silly idea, now she thought it through a bit more and Damon had pointed it out. They'd just get in the way, surely. "WHt classes are you taking at Shilp, again?"

"I guess." The boy murmured. No one needed to know that he still tormented himself with guilty thoughts when he was in the shower, when he was about to sleep, and sometimes, no matter how busy or tired he was, these thoughts would still manage to sneak in by the cracks.

"Normal classes; English, Math, Science, all that." He said, waving the topic away with a dismissive hand. "I've been contemplating going back to basketball though." He was still doing track, the sport he had picked up while in Hillworth, but it was evident that his thoughts still drifted to basketball, at least to him and his family. He still had a few basketballs in his closet, and sometimes would take one out to dribble. "Or maybe it'd be best for me to just keep doing track."

Peyton picked up from his tone that her words hadn't really seemed to have picked up his feelings much, but she decided to stop there. The girl wasn't the best at pep-talks, and she knew that. Usually she'd just make things worse. Cheeks still slightly pink, Peyton instead retained her sheepish smile, hopping from one foot to the other. Whether it was impatience, nervousness, something else, it wasn't clear.

"Ahh, haven't decided what to specialize in yet, then?" she pressed on, deciding to occupy his mind with conversation instead of sad thoughts. Except he seemed to do it himself, his mind drifting back to basketball. Peyton's smile faded to a sympathetic expression, and she reached a hand out to place on his shoulder in a hopefully reassuring gesture. "If you enjoy it, go back to it. Don't let one stupid mistake ruin a hobby you love. Surely you can do both?"

"Probably something to do with sports." He said idly, gray eyes focused on something off in the distance than on her. "Not a gym teacher though; I just... can't see myself in Killingworth and Collins' shoes." There was a reason why they were feared in Hillworth, and had rumors about them floating about in the other schools... and now, hadn't Collins transferred to Meadowview? Poor saps.

"My mother might object because of you-know-what." Damon shrugged, gaze snapping back to the girl by his side. And the last thing he wanted to do was to upset her or anyone in his family again. He patted the hand she laid on him briefly before shaking his head to clear it of such thoughts. "Come on, don't let me stop your exercise."

Something to do with sports sounded logical. The girl nodded to show she understood - Damon liked sports, so for his career to be something he enjoyed made perfect sense! She noticed his eyes weren't focused, he wasn't looking at her, but she didn't say anything - what could she say? Oi, look at me? ...No, she didn't think that would go down too well. "Nooo, I can't see you as a gym teacher either," she grinned, linking her fingers together and placing her hands behind her head. "You don't strike me as the type to willingly go back into a school environment."

Eh, yeah. His mother hadn't been too happy when all the rubbish had happened. Peyton's expression was sad and sympathetic, though she managed another reassuring smile as she took her hand back after he'd patted it. "Did you ever go to see someone? Like, see if they could teach you how to calm yourself down?" she asked, trying to find a solution to the problem presented to her. She grinned at the mention of exercise, though. "You're my excuse, Damon - c'mon, I don't particularly want to get back on that bike, it's killing me!"

"Shouting at kids and disciplining them while teaching sports? Not really my thing." Actually, he had just aptly described Killingworth, to think about it. It may have just been a year, but experiencing it for himself made him realize exactly why Hillworth's gym teacher was so famed. Damon, on the other hand, was the type to want to take sports a step further, to compete. To feel the thrill and exhilaration of competing, that adrenaline pumping through him, and of course, there was the winning. The winning that always lifted your spirits above everyone else's.

"Yeah, Mr N, that counselor." He said offhandedly, but at least now he had turned his grey eyes back to her. "You've got to pace yourself. Come on, I'll jog besides you."

She nodded in agreement. Peyton watched her friend, and as his gaze turned back to her it was met with a sweet smile. She had been starting to get worried, that she'd said something wrong or...something. His offhanded tone warned her to stay away from the subject, and despite her head telling her to persist and find out everything, Peyton resisted this once. She liked Damon, she didn't want to push him away by being her usual, nosy self.

"Well, if you insist..." she sighed, fetching her bike and dragging herself over, one foot on a pedal and the other balancing her on the ground, the girl ready to set off. "...Ready? I was heading back to my place, but we can take the detour passed yours?"
PostPosted: Sat Apr 24, 2010 9:22 am

He frowned at her as he broke into a jog, her starting to cycle besides him at his pace. It was in the evening, and with all those reports about attacks, Damon thought that he would probably have to be the one to send a girl home instead of the other way round. "It's okay; I can see you to your place." He said offhandedly, increasing his speed. Peyton had an older brother, and Damon knew what it was like for a brother to worry about the safety of his younger sister.

There was Delphine, after all. Damon would appreciate it if any guy helped to make sure his sister was safe, even if she insisted that she needed no protection and could take care of herself just fine.

He broke into a jog, and Peyton began cycling, glad that her pace wasn't quite as rigorous as it had been before, since she was keeping up with Damon. Still, he was better than she'd expected, and she was having to keep a decent pace. She smiled gratefully at his offer, nodding, "Okay then, thanks."

The conversation pretty much ended there, Peyton concentrating on her cycling. She got out of breath pretty quickly, and it was all she could do to BREATH, let alone talk or think.
