User Image She supposed...she ought to go at least once in her life. More for the fact it would expose her to something new, something she could count in her list of experiences. Still... a circus seemed so frivolous. The noise it generated was just horrible. The swell of bodies kept making Xee feel as if any second now the whole lot of them were going to be swarmed by monsters. merely due to all the noise they generated! She really did long for the silence of the wilds sometimes.

Ilmxena had seen fit to leave her devoted servant behind, and to skip out on annoying her unrecognized family member, to wander the circus alone. She did not see herself in too much personal danger after all.S he was a nobody. A plucked from the side of the road assassin and given the 'honor' of serving in a grand house. The thought of it all made her so very bitter. But Xee was not here to sulk in bitter thoughts. Rather, she soaked her tongue on some bitter ale. At least she'd found something to enjoy here. The circus brought in food and drink of different sorts that she could not get within the city. It made her feel rather...pleased to have at least found something enjoyable here.

Of course she had found something else as well. In one hand she held her ale, in the other she held a paper cone filled with some sort of candy. The crispy outside was nice and had a wafer style flavor, but inside were softened balls of chocolate. A rare treat from one of the upper level cities she was sure! As Xee wandered through the tents, she glanced with mostly disinterest. Perhaps she'd stop and watch the dragon tamer. Dragons were always interesting as far as she was considered. The giant spiders she would avoid entirely...and perhaps she'd stop by to feed a lizard or two. Depending on the type of feed they allowed of course.

User Image He was being bad. This had to be his very first act of disobedience. It made Adinas tremble inside even as he did it. The boy had long since accepted the fact he had no form of bravery or back bone. He was scared of so much, and wandering out of the House, much less into a crowd...it was just a poor decision! But this was a -circus-. It was...a circus! Adinas could not just...stay inside of the House while this carried on outside! But...he was too scared to ask his mother for permission to go. Even if she said yes to him..he was certain she'd disapprove of his little brother coming along. If he could get a chance to ask her at all.

His...father...had been keenly watching him and the boy ever since the child had been birthed. Adinas had missed that event, and...he wasn't so unhappy about that fact. The strange mystery of child birth was something he'd be content to be ignorant of for the next hundred years or so. In the mean time..he had a little brother to watch over. Today he meant to show his baby brother something fun. Something good and friendly. Something nice, rather in compare to the scowling faces he was sure the baby may have been growing used to. Well..maybe he wasn't so much a baby anymore.

"Xunny your getting heavy." Adinas noted as he carried his brother carefully through the crowd. "Wanna go see the lizards? There a dagger throwy guy over there. Wanna go watch him?" He coaxed his brother to look by pointing. Unfortunately, as he did so, a female in a garishly pink outfit was walking by. Adinas's lifted hand smacked into one of her own, causing her to drop a tin mug filled with a sour smelling drink.

"Hey!" Xee shouted angrily as her drink was knocked from her hand. She turned to glare at the pint sized brat that was the cause. "What do you think your about!?"

Undrek'Thoz; big frigging deal. Lesomph tried to keep the inner scowl from showing on his handsome face as he stood on his own little stage, twirling his knives about and balancing a blade by its tip on each finger while little children clapped enthusiastically and, much more to his taste, several lewd-looking females sizing him up, much more interested in his.....natural equipment than anything he had sporting in his belt and sheaths. Casting a wink in one female's direction, he twisted his hand around, causing all of the knives to fly into the air, deftly catching them as they came down until they all jutted out from his grasp like a fan with the cloth missing. Amid more applause, he put out his foot and did an exaggerated about-face, turning to a small table set up with exotic surface world fruits, apples he believed they were called. He held a knife aloft, being sure to flex his arm and ensure that his equally exotic flower tattoo was visible, and then he seemed to almost flick the knife casually at the fruit. The knife seemed to go through the red bulb to land with a thunk in the wooden wall of the booth beside the stage, and he heard the beginnings of mocking laughter. Idiots; as though any of them could even hit an apple with a throwing dagger; he doubted that any of them had even seen such fine weaponry; doubtless their idea of fancy was any weapon not spotted with rust or nicked from carelessly cutting through bone.

He turned and cast a broader wink at the audience, the females in particular, before raising his hand and gesturing dramatically at the apple. A collective gasp went up as the fruit suddenly seemed to fall in two pieces, not just two clean slices, but slices with decorative, wavy edges, as though they had just come out of a House kitchen. Smirking, he trotted over to the apple and speared a piece with his newly retrieved dagger, pausing to flick it at one of the females standing right at the very front. He had speared the other apple slice and was about to do likewise to it when a flash of pink caught his eye. He paused and peered into the audience, just at the edge of the crowd that had gathered to watch his exploits. His orange eyes widened; no, it could not be. He remembered such an outfit from what seemed like another lifetime ago, but......how could she be HERE?? How was she even alive?? He shook his head, more to himself than anything. No, he was certainly mistaken. Someone else could have the same taste in clothing, and that was obviously what was happening here. Still.....she even LOOKED remotely similar, though he was certain he had never seen her face so sour.

The coy calls of his female audience members drew him out of his trance; they had their eyes fixed on the remaining apple piece, anxious to know which of them would get the exotic fruit that had been so decoratively sliced by the equally exotic and decorative male. Putting his smile back on with a flourish, he flicked the apple piece out and watched the females scramble for it, his eyes still following the sour-faced female dressed in pink. He suddenly saw her bump into a small boy holding a baby, and perked his ears, trying to hear above all of the general hubbub just what was transpiring between them.

Everything was right in the world, as far as little Xunrak was concerned. He was out of the place where he was usually kept, and that meant away from the mean-faced male with the black hair who always gave him looks that made his face crumple and his eyes fill with tears. Occasionally those mean stares would be followed by hits, if he ended up actually crying from the looks, or for any other reason, such as hunger or just plain loneliness. He was away from his mother, whom he loved as only a baby could, but he didn't mind so much, because he was with his second favorite person; his big brother Adinas.

He had seen him quite a bit, always it seemed when his father was not there to scowl at them both; he would appear like magic, and soon Xunny would giggle and clap with delight whenever he saw Adin's curious eyes appearing at the edge of his crib like some sort of magical creature coming to play. Adin looked a lot like his own father, but he was not mean and did not hurt him; Adin was always nice and liked to carry him places and give him the sort of attention that for reasons he could not comprehend, his father refused to give to him. Today he had greeted his brother with his enthusiastic cry of "Ada!", quite happy to cling to his big brother and listening to him babble on about something called a circus and hhow their parents were both going to kill him for leaving the house and taking him along. As far as he was concerned, he was perfectly safe and happy so long as his brother stayed near.

Outside the House, he took all the sights and sounds in and babbled excitedly to his brother, lapsing into breathless silence when they arrived at the circus grounds. So much to see and hear! Gigantic lizards, bright colors, shouts and calls, and so many drow, more than he had ever seen in all his life! Suddenly shy, Xunny clung tightly to his brother, jarred suddenly as he felt his brother run into one. He heard the harsh voice and smelled the sharp scent of the drink she had been carrying, making his nose sting. He saw the scowling face of the female, and felt his face crumpling; why did it seem like everyone wanted to give him such mean faces?

At first glance, Adinas thought that the female was perhaps part of the circus folk. She was so very colorful! With her pink and purple and gold trimmed outfit. He could not imagine anyone wearing such garb commonly. It made her stand out! Though, as she would scowl down upon him, he came to realize that she was not a performer in the least. Adinas felt Xunrak grip him more tightly, and he tightened his own arms around the boy as a result. "I...f-forgive me Lady. I d-did not mean..." Adin's voice came out so softly, he could barely hear the words he was saying in his own head.

Ilmxena's eyes darted between the two boys, unaware that she had momentarily garnered the attention of the knife thrower. Looking at the two, she found herself biting back her angry words. One was a baby. Hardly even old enough to to bother scolding. The other boy... Xee found herself edging away from him. Her ire faded rather quickly when she realized the clothing wrapped around him was not normal woven cloth. It was spider webbing. Honest to Lloth spider webbing. The sour ale seemed to rise up in the back of her throat and a heat flushed her face. He was all wrapped up. Just like she had been. Save he was out here, wandering about.

Adinas noted the strange change in the females features, and he glanced down at Xunrak quickly. Surely she was not afraid of his little brother? So then...why this change? "Miss?" He started and tilted his head at her.

Xee blinked her red eyes, and shook her head a little. With one hand raising, she pressed her fingertips to her forehead. "Ilmxena." She corrected the boy. "I'm no Miss." She had to pull her mind back into focus before she ran in terror for a boy in cloths. Goddess! How much longer was she going to have to suffer like this!? Xee dropped her hand to look at the pair. On a whim, she thrust the paper cone towards the boy. "Here."

Adinas blinked a little as the female acted...oddly. Still oddly he mentally corrected himself. As she would seemingly for no reason offer him the cone of candy, Adinas was reasonably suspicious. Why offer them candy after they had cost her the loss of her drink? What was her reasoning for this actions. "I..thank you Mi...Ilmxena. But I really do not like those." A lie if ever there was one to pass his lips, but he was uneasy about taking candy from a stranger. It could be poisoned or something. Of course...she had been wandering the street eating from it right? Why would she poison her own candy?

Lesomph was finding it a lot harder than he had originaly thought to maintain his show and keep an eye on the enigmatic trio at the same time. He had seen the young boy spill the drink and had seen the anger in the female's stance and what part of her face that he was able to see. It seemed to ring so familiarly...but still, it just couldn't be so. He had watched her fall, the look of surprise and despair on her face as she seemed to realize her doom in that one split second.....he had never forgotten it, no matter how much he had tried to bury and drown it with other thoughts and feelings. What was done was done, and he had sought to put it behind him.

But here was this female, looking so remarkably like Xee, HIS Xee, the one he had lusted for when he was young, who had rejected him so utterly, and in he in spiteful retaliation had pushed her into the pit of driders beneath the house. He had thought of her as long dead, a dried up husk lying at the bottom of the pit with all the other dusty, used-up victims of Lolth's cursed. It just wasn't possible. This HAD to be some other drow he was seeing; perhaps from the same place, though it was the most massive of coincidences that this female would be just about the right age for Xee had she lived.

He watched the two who were able to converse exchanging words, then raised his eyebrows as the female offered the boys her circus treats. Now THERE was a strange, out of character move for any drow, let alone his Xee. Was she trying to bribe the boy to do something for her? Fat chance, with another, younger child clinging to him. Unless of course she was trying to buy the smaller one off of him. He felt a thin smile crease his face as he pondered.....just how old was that child? Old enough to appreciate what he had in front of him? He knew that if he were that child, he would be asking for much more than candy.

Xunrak had squinched his eyes shut and had let out a few shuddering cries before he felt his big brother looking at him. Unaware of his brother's thoughts of how he might be frightening the hostile stranger, he looked up at Adin with big pooling tears in his eyes, waiting expectantly for Adin to make everything better, the way he always seemed to do. He could always count on his big brother to keep him safe, even from scary females who carried stinky drinks and made him cry.

As the female suddenly thrust the cone toward Adin, Xunrak's eyes widened. His brother had done it! Not only had he protected him, but the female had given up her sweets as well! Was there anything his big brother couldn't do? His tears dissolved into smiles and he eagerly reached out a chubby arm toward the cone. He couldn't undserstand why his big brother didn't just grab the cone; it was candy, and it was sweet and nice! He could practically smell the sugar on them; much nicer than that nasty sour smell the spilled drink had given off. He looked up at Adin with a wide, encouraging grin. "Ada! Canny!"

Ilmxena would have been lying if she had said she was feeling a moment of charity. She rarely had those, and only after having downed half a keg of strong dwarven ale. No. What this was, was an attempt to overcome the embarrassment of having been frightened by a boy in webbing. She pushed the candy towards the elder boy insistently. "Oh come on. Just take it. All kids like candy. Don't lie." She sourly remarked. Well... if there was one thing that had not changed over the years, it was her talent to be blunt and strait forwards. Xee rarely was patient enough to try being manipulative. She just hated all the lost time that came from those games. Plus, this was just a kid. Hardly a worthy target.

Adinas watched as the female pushed the candy towards him more, and he looked at Xunrak disparagingly. He had no coins to buy his brother treats. He had been too afraid to take anything from the House, even though he supposed a few coppers would not have been missed in the least. He could have even taken them from the mean guards that terrified him or the servants when they were not paying attention...but the fear of being discovered in such a act stayed his fingers. It would have been so nice to get Xunrak some treat or a toy... and now this female was waving candy under their noses. How could he say no after Xunrak was looking so hopeful?

"All...right..." Adinas murmured softly. He shifted Xunrak in order to ensure he'd not drop his brother, and he reached to take the cone from the lady, so he could tip it and hold it towards Xunrak. "Just one at a time Xunny." He warned his brother.

Xee nodded her head in approval as the boy took the candy. With her hand lifting, she crooked her finger at the boy. "So what is your name kid? What are you doing out with such a little one alone?" Focus...perhaps she could use this as a sort of practice? A way to work on overcoming some of her fears. Xee gestured for the boy to move towards the knife thrower. "Come and watch with me for a minute."

Adinas was...unsure. he felt that desire to creep away and hide growing as the female would not move on. Instead she seemed intent on staying near them. Adin swallowed hard, then moved numbly towards the knife thrower. "I..I am..Adinas...Miss Ilmxena." he whispered softly. Though he knew she'd told him not to call her that, it was terribly hard to break the habit of deference.

Just when Lesomph thought he could finally balance watching them and continuing with his routine, his orange eyes widened as he saw the trio heading in his direction. Dammit! As though it was hard enough concentrating without seeming to spy on the lot; now here they were coming to make it both easier and harder. True, he would be able to see them more clearly, perhaps even catch snippets of conversation which might give him a clue as to just who these people were, particularly the female in pink. But the thought of her being so close to him when he was already suspicious of her made him more than a little uneasy, a feeling that in itself was unfamiliar to him; he hadn't felt it for so long. He hated anything that stole away his confidence.

As the pair approached, he deliberately avoided looking directly at the trio, although he couldn't help but steal glances down at the pink-clothed female with undisguised scrutiny. At the sound of the word 'Ilmxena' however, his eyes widened to their utmost, and he found himself sttopping dead in the middle of his act to gawk at the three. He barely regstered the confused sounds of his audience as he bored holes into the female with his eyes. The clothing and the age might pass for coincidence, but the name went way beyond that. It was her. She was here. HERE! He found himself struggling to speak, and he barely heard the whisper that finally made it past his lips. "Xee.....?"

Xunrak clapped his hands in delight before eagerly reaching out to grasp at the candy cone. He wrinkled his little nose as only one treat appeared, but in a flash he had it in his mouth and was eagerly chewing on it. It tasted better than anything he had ever had, having hardly remembered anything he had eaten in the past. For him, everything was here and now, and right now he was with his brother and eating sweet things. Everything seemed wonderful and grand. He looked curiously as they drew closer to the knife thrower, babbling and pointing to the shiny knives. "Ada; tarp!"

"No Miss. Drop the miss boy or I'll smack you next time you say it." Xee sharply scolded the child. Her eyes were fixed more on the boy then the knife thrower that she had meant to come and watch. As long as she forced herself to see past the spider webbing..she could function fine enough. Though she did feel a beading of sweat on her brows from the effort. Every nerve of her was screaming to push the boy away and disappear into the crowd. She was not going to let her fear win though. She refused to!

Instead she focused on the baby.

Adinas flushed and nodded his head. "I apologize. I just..I am.."

"Your from a House." Xee interrupted the boy's stuttering. "And your trained properly. Don't apologize for that. I just prefer my company a bit more informal."

Adinas lifted his head and blinked. How had she had known? He had been careful not to wear anything that would have proclaimed him from House Torlyl. He had even made certain that the blanket he wrapped Xunrak in had the house insignia hidden. He did not want to draw any unwelcome attention. Yet this female had...

It was then that both of them became aware of the confusion in the crowd. Adinas glanced around, as did Xee...until she heard her nick name whispered so faintly. Xee glanced up on the stage at the male looking as if he were looking at a ghost or some equally unbelievable creature. He was quiet handsome. His style of dress was something that she definitely found attractive, and the tattoo upon his arm was something exotic and pleasant. If she were inclined to think of males in that manner of course. Xee furrowed her brows at him though. Something about his face...it looked..familiar. The angular cut of his face...the way his ears pointed outwards... Xee opened her mouth to question the male..

But as her eyes locked upon the soft golden of the male, something clicked in the back of her head. It was like a shock of electricity jolted down her spine. Xee moved without thinking, She spun upon the ball of her pink leather boots and darted away from the box. Though as she moved, she reached down, and unthinkingly grabbed the boy in the webbing by the arm and pulled him after her. "Move child." She hissed.

Adinas felt a tense moment of uncertainty pass as the knife thrower on stage and Ilmxena looked at each other. "Huh? Oh..yes Xunny. I see." He whispered softly to his brother and tightened his grip on hi,. It was a good thing he did though, as Ilmxena would suddenly turn and grab him to run. "Ah!? What?" He asked in surprise as he was pulled along.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 26, 2010 7:23 pm

Lesomph almost smiled as he saw the recognition dawn on Xee's face, even noted the way it seemed to make her entire body rigid in a way he could definitely appreciate. It didn't really occur to him that in her eyes, if she remembered anything else, this was the ultimate step-down for him. He had been a part of her house, albeit a male, and now here he was, performing for the masses and showing off his best talent as though it were just smoke and mirrors like much of the rest of the circus. Xee probably hadn't even seen him throw a knife; he had strived to perfect the talent when he had had nowhere else to go and joined up with the circus. No wonder she had seemed so shocked when she saw him.

He blinked as Xee spun on her foot and started to walk away as fast as she could, dragging the two young males along behind her. He found himself walking off the stage after her, stepping down from the stage and suddenly finding himself assaulted by long-nailed hands and an array of perfumes with the pungency of lamp oil. He barely registered the seductive whispers and the barely-masked annoyance at being ignored so by a hamdsome but common performer. He even lashed out in frustration when he had felt an unusually strong arm holding him back; he heard the cry and felt the arm withdraw, but he wasn't sure if it had been a female, nor did he care. All he cared about right now was catching up to the rapidly retreating figures up ahead.

Still young enough to believe his brother had acknowledged his statement, Xunny turned back to the knife thrower, red eyes sparkling happily when he saw that the male was staring right at them. Just like THEY were the show! His attention roving back to the shiny throwing knife, Xunrak reached out toward it, not knowing that it was far too far away for him to even think of grasping. He suddenly blinked as his entire line of vision became very bumpy as his big brother Adin was dragged along behind the female, whom Xunny had decided wasn't so bad after all, since she had shared her candy.

He tried to turn his head to look up at Adin, but his entire world was still jumping, and it hurt too much to turn too far. "A-A-A-A-da-a-a-a?" He turned his head back to where the world was the least hopping, which was back in the direction they had been running from. He saw the drow with the shiny knives coming after them, trying to follow but almost getting buried by enthusiastic females. Grinning his wide baby grin, Xunrak stuck his arm out and waved at the quickly-shrinking knife-thrower. "Bah-bye! Bah-bye!"

Xee got perhaps...a block and a half away before her sense returned to her. She was running away. Fleeing from a male. Never mind that it was -him-. The male she'd been wanting to find. To kill. She had gone and lost her head upon finding him so expectantly. Xee pulled the boy behind her into a slim ally between two buildings and released him so she could rub a hand over her eyes. She needed to collect herself and regain her composure. "I need a drink." She muttered under her breath.

Adinas clung to his brother as they were pulled along by the stranger. He did not get much chance to respond to his little brothers little cried question until it was the female stopped in a ally. He secured his hold upon his brother and looked up at her. "I...can we...go now?" He asked hesitatingly. He did not want to get anymore involved then he had already. This was...no. This would be bad. If their mother found out he'd gotten Xunrak and himself in the middle of something dangerous she'd be so mad! He did not want to be punished!

Xee pulled her thoughts from within and glanced down at the boy. Ugh...she had grabbed him in her unthinking state. Perhaps not so unthinking. She wouldn't have wanted to leave them there for Lesomph to get ahold of and drill with questions. She was an assassin, but she was not a murderer. There was a definite distinction between the two.

"Meh..I suppose...next time you boys go out..." Xee leaned forwards to pinch and tug at Xunrak's clothing. "Change your wards cloths. The material is high quality silk, and he has the look of a nobles child. Anyone with a keen eye would pick this up, and with you alone guarding him you'd make easy targets for those who make sport of such opportunities."

Adinas glanced at Xunraks clothing, and nodded his head a little. "I...y-yes Mi...Ilmxena." He stammered softly and shifted back another step. As it seemed clear she was not going to stop him, Adinas turned and scampered from the ally. "Come on Xunny. Let's go back home. Finish your candy."

"Where the Hell....?" Lesomph found himself just stopping on the outskirts of the circus grounds, glaring around at the thrumming crowd all around him. Up until right then, he had been able to keep the fleeing trio in his sight; certainly the smallest one had made it easy with his absentminded waving in his direction. But the female, she had been clever. She had caused all three of them to vanish from his sights, and now here he was standing in the middle of a street, facing a lost quarry on one end and a throng of angry customers on the other. Word was sure to leak to the ringmistress that not only had he abandoned his post, but he had struck out at a customer. If that arm had turned out to belong to a female...... He flinched in spite of himself. It wouldn't have been the first time he had lashed out at a female, and he knew that the consequences were quite severe. Up until then, he had persuaded them to spare his fine body, arguing that he would attract less customers with a scarred body, but he knew that it was just a matter of time before someone suggested that if his outbursts kept up, they would lose female customers anyway, so they might as well scar him up like some horrible war survivor.

He stood there for a moment longer, clenching his fists in silent rage, then he spun on his heel and walked swiftly back to the circus. He would take his punishment, and he might even tell the truth; that he saw a ghost from his past that compelled him to follow. Perhaps he would be granted some time to 'rest up' before he completely lost his mind, and then he could slip out and search for Xee. He knew now that it must have been her; he had seen the recognition on her face, and why else would she run from him, if she were just another female? He was burning with curiousity; how had she survived? What was she doing here? And most of all, had she taken a mate yet?

As soon as Adin stopped, Xunrak gurgled a laugh and clapped his chubby hands together. "Agin! Agin!" He had enjoyed watching the world go by faster than he could follow, although he was a little sad when he could no longer see the drow with the knives. It had been a lot of fun, and he was still safe and secure, which was more than he could say if he was at home, and if he actually had the ability to say.

He waved a cheerful goodbye as Adin walked them away from the pink lady, and he fell to finishing his candy with real gusto, shoving a few pieces in at a time. He wanted it gone before anyone saw it; he was sure that his Daddy would take it away if he saw him, and hurt him if he knew that he had tried to hide it. Already he was fast learning the ways of his people, and trying to bypass them the best way he knew how. When his fingers scraped the bottom of the paper cone and came back with nothing, he uncurled his hand and let the paper cone drop to the ground. "All gone, Ada."

Adin exhaled a relieved sigh as he placed distance between himself and the woman. It was a great relief to be getting away from the possible danger she posed. He glanced down at his brother as he happily finished the candy. He could not help but smile faintly at him. "That...that is good Xunny. You liked the candy right?" Adinas paused as he approached the House and he glanced up. It was time to go invisible again and sneak inside. He looked to his brother, and leaned forwards to whisper to him "It's the quiet game now Xunny. We have to be quiet as a spider and sneak back inside. Then I will read you a story, okay?" He waited for his brother to calm down a bit before he prepared his spells. It would be easier getting inside he suspected then getting out...all in all...today had to have been a good one for his little brother.

Xee took a few moments to properly calm herself down. Sure, she could tell herself to shake it off, but she was not going to wander off now when she had a moment of quiet. Xee turned and followed the ally into the next street over. She'd visit the bar, drown her newly resurfaced bad memories, and stick to her local haunts until the circus left. Obviously this is where the b*****d had hidden himself. Well..she could find him now when she was ready. Maybe she should speak with Elaughfein. If she had Micarvyrr back she'd have them plot with her on how to remove the traitor. But her power was so limited..and she was indentured to the House now..she couldn't risk causing them trouble over her own vexations. They were a bigger threat to her life then Lesomph was.
