Okay, now it;s obvious that few of us listen to 'mainstream' music very often.
My complaint is that my older brother says I listen to sissy metal, i.e. power metal. I swear I can;t listen to it when he visits because it annoys him, after all they are not singing about ******** corpses and eating their juicy innards,,,which he claims is symbolism...
You see he listens to death and thrash metal...which quite frankly grates on my ears. I also believe that the music you listen to reflects your soul, and quite frankly I don;t want to know what his soul contains if he calls that dross music.
My main question is...does this crap happen often to you guys?

I know, it's just they don't like some of their words, but I think their music is beautiful. When I listen to music I mostly focus on the toon first, because I listen to Rammstein and I don't know german, also I listen to Japanese music and I don't understand Japanese either. I mean I like the words, but the toon comes before the words. the words could be perfect, but with a crappy tune.

With me..there must be a good infusion of lyricism and melody. i love the lyrics of most of Nightwish's songs, and it;s one of the main reason's i cannot indulge in death metal, well one.
With me, my soul becomes attuned to the song, I feel it, and I experience the song, with epic power metal I see the story unfolding in front of my eyes, great battles and exuberant spirirts. Doom metal frightens me, i have enough anger and rage without giving it more fuel.
anyway, evil /Nightwish is not, though i must say, Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean was quite good, and...dark.

All the time. Especially in my band class. I live in an area where the most prevalent music is Rap/Hip hop, Country ( crying ), Emo, or Garage music. So being a fan of just about every genera of metal (except for brutal death metal *kills it*) doesnt exactly play in well.
I just cant wait to see everyones face when I walk in with my new Cradle of Filth T-shirt xd

Yah i like music for what it is - the MUSIC not so much the words. if the music i like has words i like the better..
i like system of a down because they see the world with the majior problems it has and they sing about it.
But i kinda agree Nightwish is not evil even tho the symbolism and blaitent obviousnes of some of their lyrics ex: most of the wishmaster album can be seen as against certain religions for ex (bare grace misery) (if you don't know what i mean then i won't bother explaning it here.)
but other songs do show the spiritualness of the band (mainly Tuomas)
i have also kinda noticed that rap/hiphop is on its way out and mettal is moving in ex: with need for speed most wanted the music is more mettalish than rapish
PS i am a big OTAKU (american definition) and love jap music and techno!!!! i have ddr for ps2 and i dld alot of songs from it!.

At first, my friends were a tad wary when my musical tastes flung from pop to Dir en Grey and Malice Mizer, ect. Then I got them to like it, and then I moved on to Nightwish.
I was introduced to Nightwish by one of my friends, which set off a huge chain of discovering a bazillion different metal bands. The genres I like are power, prog, and melodic. I scare my friends with my love of Blind Guardian and other "geeky" epic metal. My parents are like: "whatever. Just don't blast your music too loud." I got my 9-year-old brother hooked on Sonata Arctica and Blind Guardian. 3nodding
But otherwise, nobody else really knows what I listen to. I scare people by how obsessed I am with it (especially Nightwish), not the music itself.
Go figure.
Edit: Though, one time me and a friend of mine were looking at the Once album... Me: Yeah, I love this CD... Friend: Me too. Girl: Hey, what CD is that? Me: Nightwish's Once album. Girl: ... *weird look* What kind of music is that? Me: *nonchalantly* Metal. Girl: ... Oh. *another weird look* Me&Friend: *giggle*

Lol, yeah I love Blind Guardian and Sonata Arcitca as well, and I oten sleep with it on.
there's just something ironuic about being woken up by Nightfall, especially when the lyrics that woke you up were "Nightfall! Quietly crept in and changed us all!"
