A ramshackle single story building built from scrap wood and rust, a few rotting benches and overturned barrels serve as tables and chairs, the floor is packed dirt and random puddles of unidentifyable liquid are on almost every surface. A few oily tallow candles and some light coming in from a hole in the roof provide the only sources of light. As it is so late only a few customers remain, most betting, a few drinking at the bar, and a couple observing the knife throwing match taking place. Any food or alcohol item available is extremely cheap and of horrible quality.

It was Maikeru's turn, It's difficult to throw accurately when your half-drunk, he observed, good thing I'm not.
Maikeru chuckled as he threw another knife for a perfect shot while simultaneously drinking what everyone else thought to be whatever the barkeep was selling that night, while he knew it was just...well he didn't know what it was, it sure wasn't beer, sake, or water.
His eyes widened...."S***," he threw the remainder of his money on the table. How in Hell did I lose? The knife had hit right on the mark...with the hilt, it had bounced off somewhere onto the filthy floor.
Maikeru raised his hand calling a barmaid, "After that I really do need to get drunk," he mumbled. He swallowed and grimaced, I know it sucks, but this isn't even palatable. He thought, oddly pleasantly surprised. He shrugged and shot back another mouthful.

As he opened the door to the back room Hotaru accidentally managed to loosen a bolt just enough for it to fall out. The door fell off its hinge and hit a young sitting at the bar man in the back of the head. The solid wood of the door was unfortunately the only well built piece of architecture in the building, and so made a sickening crack as it connected, as it was quite heavy. Hotaru quickly hefted the large wooden deadweight off of the unlucky b*****d, and leaned down to check to see if he was okay. He had a slight trickle of blood down his face, but other than that he looked fine. The man just happened to be a shinigami, which surprised Hotaru because he thought he was the only one who would bother to drink in a place like this. What happened next didn't surprise Hotaru as much, because he had been half expecting it seeing as how he'd just dropped a door on the man.

Maikeru was in the middle of swallowing another mouthful of the horrible concoction we was served when his world flashed white with pain. He came back around a few moments later, picked himself up, dusted some dirt off of his clothing, straitened his shirt, looked at the man who had sent a...Holy S*** was that the door?? crashing down on him, and sent a solid right hook at the man's face.
Being slightly drunk and having a minor cuncussion he failed to notice his assailant was a fellow Shinigami, so he figured that single punch would knock him out cold.
Jack-A**, "Hey, bartender another one?" He shouted as he turned around.
