Now wasn't this a rare sight - Peyton Scott, sitting on a bench in the school grounds, when she should be in Biology. Although Peyton wasn't what one might call a goodie-goodie, she wasn't one to skip class - ever. She knew where she wanted to go in life, and knew that attending classes and doing her work was the only way to get there.

However, the small white line coming from each of her ears may have given an indication as to why the girl was where she was, instead of in a lesson. Laying on her back over the bench, careful to keep her legs in such a position that her skirt wasn't open for the world to see, Peyton had been taking advantage of the beautiful sunshine in her free period. Plugging her iPod in, she'd disappeared into a world of music and thought, eyes closed as she simply enjoyed having the opportunity to just sit and do...nothing. With her music she'd completely missed the bell, and she'd never been one to wear a watch.

Oh dear. If she knew, she'd be horrified that she'd now joined the ranks of the ditchers.

Cassius left his morning class with a large coffee in hand and his own iPod blasting music. Since getting scolded the other day, he decided to grace his English class with his presence this morning. He promised his teacher he'd 'get over his depression' so he could 'get the courage to sit around others in class'. Unfortunately, his teacher saw Cassius socializing this past weekend so the gig was up. Back to class it was for now.. until the next fabulous excuse he could come up with.

As he walked through campus he smiled at anyone who walked by him and said hello. There were a few faces that looked familiar from classes but others were just random girls blushing and scurrying by him. Campus wasn't as bad when the weather was this nice. Plus girls switched to dresses and skirts when it was warmer and that always rocked. He was also relieved to be done for the day. As if he'd go to his history class. Especially when the teacher never took attendance! One of his classmates was turning his paper in for him with no problems. The system was always better when one found ways around it and Cassius was constantly doing that.

He stopped quickly when he saw familiar hair on a bench next to him. The girl was dozing off, but Cassius realized exactly who it was within seconds. Oh Peyton, if she wasn't careful she'd start drooling in public! Cassius then put his things on the ground, turned his own iPod off and moved one of Peyton's headphones out of her ear. "Nice underwear." he then whispered, while awaiting her usually entertaining reaction.

He couldn't help himself- she left herself wide open for that kind of joke. He probably should have left her rested and comfortable, but he hadn't seen her in a few days so it was time to wake her up!

Mmm, the sun was so nice! A smile was placed on the girl's face as she listened to one of her favourite tunes, lips moving wordlessly to mouth the lyrics to the song. What she wasn't expecting, at any rate, was for one of her headphones to be taken out, and a comment on her underwear.

Shooting up into a sitting position, getting her legs a little tangled in the process, a rather loud "s**t!" came out as a hand reached out to shove Cassius away. Deep amber eyes shot open, soon recognizing the face before her, look of surprise quickly turning to a more sour one, "Get away from me, James!" she hissed, again really quite loudly, though she realized as she spoke and hence the volume dropped. Pausing the song, tugging the other headphone from her ear, she made a show of tugging her skirt down, cheeks noticeably pink.

"You're such a pervert."

He supposed he should have felt bad for embarrassing her, but now there was room for him to sit on the bench so he was happy. "Oh come now, I was just kidding. No one could see anything. I just needed an excuse to wake you up- you know how needy I am for attention." He waved his hands dramatically while grinning at his pink-cheeked friend. And without hesitation, he planted himself next to Peyton and checked out her iPod.

As he was looking at whatever she was listening to, he realized something. "I don't think I've ever seen you around at this time of day." He scratched his head while thinking about it further. "Don't you have class now?" He quickly checked his watch. Hm, now he was confused.

Naw, there was no way Peyton was ditching class. If anything, the teacher probably cancelled it or something. Or Cassius was wrong entirely and Peyton didn't have class right now. Yep, her ditching was the farthest thing from Cassius' mind, since he knew her just as well. "Did you do anything fun this past weekend?" Every day was basically a weekend for Cassius but for everyone else he knew Friday/Saturday were their 'going out!' nights.

The scowl was placed rather firmly on her face, though she reluctantly shuffled a little further up the desk, to give Cassius more room to sit down. Several glares were shot his way, though the scowl soon faded to a pout, which faded to a sigh, and, finally, a small smile as she nudged him - somewhat hard, mind you - with her elbow, leaning back on the bench to make herself comfortable.

"That was mean," she whined, allowing him to pull over her iPod. She wasn't listening to much - her usual Disney songs, mixed in with a few new bands she'd found mre recently. The mention of the time of day caused her to frown, though, as she reached for her bag under the bench, rifling through it to find her phone to get the time off of. "It's 2nd period, isn't it?" she thought out loud, plucking her cellphone from her bag, turning the screen on...

"s**t!"

She jumped up from the bench, glancing left, right, left, to her bag, to Cassius, to her phone again, before sinking back onto the bench with another long whine. It was a good way through the lesson, she couldn't turn up now, it'd practically be over. "Awww, he's gonna kill me! I...I-I how did this happen!?" she continued to whine, head falling onto Cassius' shoulder to seek comfort. Probably the wrong place to seek comfort - he wasn't exactly a model student himself. But he was someone to complain to, so he was good enough.

Her weekend? She shrugged, "Party on Friday, went shopping Saturday. Not much. ...He's gonna kill me!"

Cassius was probably the BEST person to be sitting next to Peyton right now. Rather then telling her she was dumb for missing class, scolding her for her mistake or even laughing at the situation, he just sat there and glanced at her spazzing tactics. "What? Whatever don't worry about it. It happens, yo." Why should she make herself go crazy when it was just a little mistake? Plus a mistake that Peyton never did.

"You won't get killed. People do it all the time. And you like never miss class." He waved his hand nonchalantly as she leaned against him. "If anything just tell them you weren't feeling that great and that you couldn't make it." Peyton was a good student and no one could get mad at her for missing one day.

He had no idea if his advice was actually helping her. But seriously, what was done was done. She had missed a class. She was still alive and healthy. That was the only way to go about living life in Cassius' mind.

"Party on Friday? Where the hell was I?" Now that he thought about it, he sighed lightly and put his head in one of his hands. Friday was not a good night for him, and he such a horrible date. He thought he'd be free when the date was over, but no. The girl would not let him go and started freaking out when Cassius said he had to leave. Even though she was pretty she was too effin crazy. Bad combination right there.

Damn Peyton for being at a party and for him having such a terrible evening! "Are you calm yet, or no?" He figured- no?

Don't worry? DON'T WORRY? But...but she'd missed class! She never missed class, unless she was seriously ill or there was some sort of emergency. She wouldn't get anywhere if she didn't atetnd class and make herself...like, smarter! "Exactly, I never miss class!" she exclaimed, pouting as she nudged him again with her elbow at his suggestion of an excuse, shuffling closer to lean on him more. She was a fairly affectionate girl, and likedhugs and cuddles and the like. Cassius was just a friend, she had no doubts there, and besides, she was sure he wasn't complaining.

"I don't like making excuses," she mumbled, feeling a little stupid. Perhaps she should do what he said? It couldn't hurt too much...it was only a little lie. Pushing the thought from her mind, figuring her next class wasn't until next week so she didn't have to worry about it right now, she instead managed a smile, as she sat herself up before twisting herself around. She pulled her legs up onto the bench, turning around a little more, so she was basically sitting on the bench, facing away from Cassius, her back leaning against his side. She was grinning, of course, wondering if he'd be happy to let her sit like this or whether he'd shove her off.

"You might've been there, I dunno, I wasn't exactly sober," she shrugged, leaning her head back so it was resting on his shoulder once more. Peyton wasn't a seasoned drinker, but she liked to have a good time at parties, especially when others were. "There's another this Saturday - you coming?" she asked, smiling sweetly. Calm? Her pout returned, the girl sighing. "...I suppose. ...It could be worse, like you said."
PostPosted: Thu Mar 25, 2010 10:53 am

Cassius didn't understand how people could freak out about things they couldn't control, especially with this one already being in the past. He wanted to sympathize with her but he honestly didn't know how. Plus the whole him not really caring about school was creating a gap in his mind. But he was trying here. And he didn't like to see her upset, that was for sure.

"I know I know." he finally said, while leaning his own head against the bench. He didn't mind her new positioning at all- and as a matter of fact, it was pretty comfortable. "You can't beat yourself up about it though, you'll drive yourself crazy." he sighed lightly and dug around his pockets for a piece of gum. When he nabbed two, he offered one to Peyton before putting the other in his mouth. It felt like they both needed a refreshing boost or something.

"So you had a good time Friday night." he then added, while chuckling of course. "And no, I wasn't there. I was stuck in the pits of hell while you were enjoying yourself." His hand ran itself throughout his hair before hearing Peyton's mention of Saturday. "Oh. I could probably be there Sat." From the top of his mind he couldn't remember if he had any other plans for the weekend.

"I need to get out and socialize some more." Especially when it came to people at their school. Since Cassius rarely came to school, he had very little connections besides Peyton and a few others. "I should be moving into my own apartment finally, so I'll be throwin' down there when the time comes too."

Peyton sighed, having exhausted her complaints for this particular event, happily accepting the gum offered to her with a fond smile, popping it into her mouth and chewing. He didn't seem to have any complaints about her position, so she made herself comfortable, continuing to rest her head backwards on his shoulder, eyes fluttering shut as she enjoyed the sun once more. At least this time she had Cassius to tell her when she should be leaving.

She grinned as he went on about Friday night, shrugging a little, "Yeah, it was pretty good. A lot of drunk kids - trust me, I was one of the better ones, and I was still giggling like a three year old." Pits of hell, hmm? "Bad date, huh?" she teased, chuckling to herself. That'd explain why he wasn't at the party - the only thing he'd miss one for would be a girl. "I can take you on Saturday if you like, introduce you to a few people. A few girls." she continued teasing, beginning to fiddle with a strand of her hair. "Own apartment, huh? 'Bout time, isn't it?"

Said the girl still living with her parents.
PostPosted: Thu Mar 25, 2010 12:27 pm

From Peyton's shift to talking about the weekend, Cassius was guessing that she may have been feeling a little better. The gum must have been a nice add on, too. "Oh overly drunk people. They are fun for a little bit until they can't walk anymore." Cassius enjoyed drinking as much as anybody else, but he didn't enjoy getting emaciated all the time. Although, on certain holidays and birthdays he may have done otherwise..

"It was horrible. Clingy McClingster Psycho Sad Girl." He had names for everybody. But apparently this girl needed tons of words for one quick description. "Ah well, it happens to us all." And she would most definitely never happen again.

"I would love to hang and meet them. I promise I won't embarrass you too much." He let out a laugh. "But what about you? No boys wrapped around your fingers at the moment?" He was smiling lightly and poking her shoulder sort of childishly.

At her mention of it 'being time', he could only reply, "Please, I couldn't just move out to any apartment. I waited for months until finding the perfect one. Plenty of space, decks outside, the whole shebang." Of course, Cassius did at first look for the fanciest apartment since he could afford anything he wanted. Surprisingly, he fell in love with a certain mid-level expensive one he just had to have it. He couldn't wait to get everything ready and moved in.

He was SO ready to get the hell away from his father. Sweet freedom came so soon.

She smiled - overly drunk people were sort of fun, and amusing to watch. "Yeah, it was funny, until they started puking everywhere and stuff..." she trailed off, wrinkling her nose in disgust. That hadn't been a pretty sight. That all soon faded to the world's biggest grin, though, as Peyton actually laughed, though that in turn faded to giggles. "Oh dear..." she giggled, clearly not being very sympathetic at all as she continued giggling.

"Still, at least you've learnt your lesson? Perhaps hold a conversation before asking them out?" she teased, tugging on one of his blonde strands of hair playfully. "You'll embarrass me to the full, and I very well know that, Cass," she sighed, giving his hair another tug, "Be grateful that I'm overlooking that and inviting you anyway."

Boys wrapped around her finger? Another chuckle, though this one was more awkward, his poke rewarded with a particularly sharp tug of his hair, "Not at the moment, no. Got any suggestions, hmm?"

Peyton's grin returned at the mention of his apartment, "Okay, okay, I digress. When you gonna invite me round, hmm?" she teased a little more, shuffling a little in her position before settling down again, making herself comfortable.

"I know I know, I tend to forget the conversation part is sort of important." It actually wasn't that often that Cassius had terrible dates but such was life. This particular girl was already erased from his mind so there was nothing else to worry about. "And since when do I embarrass you?" He glanced at her nonchalantly before shrugging with a grin in response. "I'll try to be on my best behavior." Even if that was usually rare.

No boys at the moment? "Hah, I have no suggestions here. As if I even have many guy friends." Cassius didn't get along with most men. He found them to get jealous of him easily and to be mostly socially awkward in general. "If I find somebody you'll be the first to know, I promise." He liked setting people up in that sense.

She seemed very interested in his apartment and he shook his head at her eagerness. "I can't believe you are asking me such a question." He was enjoying being playfully dramatic at the moment. "You'll be the first to be invited once everything is complete and ready, obviously." Cassius needed people around him at all times, so his apartment would most likely have friends there a lot.

"So, tell me what else is new, besides your class fiasco earlier. Got any other good plans coming up or anything like that?" It may have seemed like petty small talk but Cassius was definitely interested since Peyton had always been a good friend. "You are usually a busy bee like that. I can never keep up."

She giggled - trust Cassius to be the one to forget the 'conversation part'. "Well, we learn through our mistakes, right? And by the sounds of it you won't be making that one again." Embarrass her? Peyton twisted her head a little, scoffing as she settled back into her previous position, arms now crossed as she pouted a little more. "Embarrass me? Since when don't you!? Honestly, men." she spat out, though without the venom one would use if they meant it. She was just joking around, as per usual.

"Right, 'cause you're down with the ladies," Peyton mumbled, rolling her eyes with a shake of her head and a grin. She didn't know what it was about Cassius, and would've happily bet that he didn't know either. He just seemed to hit it off with girls, whereas guys got jealous of how well he got along with the girls, and how he...well, interacted with them. Even when he didn't mean to, Cassius seemed like he was flirting. She'd had to stem many a rumors herself. She didn't like it when she wasn't the one spreading them.

She'd be the first one invited? Peyton grinned. "Good." He knew his place, she was pleased to see. The first time one of his toy...girls came before her, she'd slap him silly. One had to have priorities, after all. "Ugh, don't remind me..." the teen grumbled at the mention of the so called 'class fiasco', head falling into her hands for several moments. "Not...that much, I suppose. Just the usual. Volunteering, meeting friends, work, more work, couple of parties...how about yourself, Mr. Big-shot?"
PostPosted: Wed Mar 31, 2010 7:17 am

Cassius didn't know what it was exactly but Peyton was correct- he was always around girls for some reason. He had a hard time getting along with males and he understood girls much better. He also liked taking them out and entertaining them to keep himself busy. He had two categories for girls, and either he liked them and respected them and wanted to be friends with them or they were flat out conquests. Surprisingly, Cassius kept his private life quiet and most were unaware of whatever he did. He wasn't someone who got a kick from boasting about his pastimes.

"We are strange creatures." he then added, while sitting with his eyes closed while he talked. The sun felt so good. He needed to get a better tan going for when bathing suit season arrived. It was a tough world out there so everyone needed to look good at all times. "But you all can't get enough of us at the same time." And sadly, that was so true. Males were the exact same way towards females.

"Man, you work a lot." Cassius wasn't sure what he'd do if he had to work like most people did. That's why gambling was so much easier and large amounts of money would come in at the best of times. "You should make sure to have more time for fun things so you don't overwhelm yourself! As for me.. nothing much is new actually." Well, that wasn't entirely true. He had his whole Lieutenant duties to keep track of but so far even that wasn't too demanding. "I just try to keep myself and other's busy. Life is good so I can't complain." He glanced at her and shrugged. "And somehow do some schoolwork?"

He didn't need to explain to Peyton his priorities since she was well aware of his poor attendance and horrible work ethic at Soveriegn Heights. But hey, at least he liked all forms of after school activities?

Strange creatures? Peyton gave a less-than-attractive snort, feeling her cheeks flush red as she realized, half-hoping he might not have noticed. "That's an understatement," she commented, though her mouth spread to a smile once again as her own eyes fluttered closed, the teen relaxing into the position they were in, enjoying the sun once more, like Cassius. "Yeah, we're all climbing over you. Get at ego deflation, James."

It was true, though. Girls couldn't get enough of boys, boys couldn't get enough of girls. It was like some vicious circle, and you were bound to get hurt somewhere along the way. Peyton opened one eye at the mention of the amount of work she did, frowning. "I don't work...that much, do I?" she asked, slightly confused. She never really thought of herself as very busy, but she supposed to was. The whole struggling to cram homework into the small amounts of free-time she had was probably a sign. Being here right now, just able to lay in the sun with her friend and not do...well, anything. It was foreign, but really nice. "Maybe I should skip class more often," she joked quietly, haf-hoping he didn't pick up on it incase he encouraged her to do so. "I go to parties and stuff. It's just...well, if we don't work now we won't have fun later in life. That makes sense...right?"

She needed telling that she was on the right track - Peyton was an impressionable girl, and needed someone to tell her that yes, she was right, every so often.
