Ro'ark murred over the current task at hand, little singes of smoke rising from his steps as he made his way along the road. Bits of grass charring in his wake as he allowed his own heat to radiate freely, glad to see the oncoming night..As much as he loved the sun, he too loved the darkness.

Ro'arks coal-like eyes glowing brightly as they scanned the horizon. He often enjoyed watching the sun set, the great orb slowly twinkling as everything gave way to the darkness, the stars, and the moons pale light. Feeling very much at peace for the moment, noticing that few were about, he was content to whistle softly to himself, eyes casting back to the sky again to catch the trails of falling stars. Along with the tail end of the sun's setting..

Corwin yawned, interrupting another of his toneless humming strains, before setting his lanterns up to follow him again. He had only woken a short while ago, and would have to begin his walk. He marveled at the sun fading into stars, began to hum again as he stretched and began down the path.

He walked and walked, his feet growing sore. He detested the chill, so he began to exhale his balmy bonfire breath to heat himself and the air around him, rubbing his warm hand on his arm. Another cold night. The slivers of cold inside him were already wide awake. Every step was an exercise in bearing the pangs of cold. Although he was familiar with the feeling, he was not used to it yet. He longed to burn from the inside out, so he would be able to sleep at night, perhaps. Even though he loved being awake at night; it was as if the world was sleeping. Truly, it was the home of wandering spirits. In shadow, perhaps their unique pain, their homeless journeying, could be erased.

Why would anyone choose cold over heat? He was thinking to himself, when he saw a figure walking ahead. The figure seemed to burn, tendrils of smoke rising every time it took a step. Corwin headed towards the figure, without a second thought. After all, that was his task; to find those who wandered the night and offer assistance. Even if it was hardly night yet. Approaching, Corwin sent ahead one balmy breeze, to greet the stranger.

Ro'ark glanced forwards paying attention to the path once more instead of gazing up at the sky. Shivering lightly as a breeze seemed to sweep through the area, a small glowing spot ahead on the road shining brightly against the dimming backdrop of the setting sky.. "Well now..what is this?" he murmured softly to himself, the other seemed to be one of his own kin, though he looked different then most he'd seen before. The other carried many lanterns on himself instead of just one, the four glowing orbs seeming enchanted to a point where they floated about their owner. How intriguing..

Ro'ark smiled faintly, deciding it would be best to at least say 'hello' to the passerby, better then being rude and simply ignoring the other traveler. Realizing as he got closer that the twilif may not be as fiery as he appeared. He was an almost dark sky color, tinged with bright golden orange markings and decorations. Giving a slight wave of his hand and a nod once he grew close enough, his grin twitching slightly wider with ro'arks attempt at looking more friendly.

Corwin's face was blank, at first, as he raised his lanterns to look at the red Twilif. Then, he realized he was being strange, since the Twilif was obviously making an effort to look approachable. As soon as Corwin was close enough to speak, he said, "Are you looking for something?" Which was his politer way of asking, Are you lost? Can I help?

Corwin grabbed idly at one of the flames in his aura, twisting it around his fingers and tangling his hand up in it, before letting it return to its natural orbit. The Twilif had a similar aura, and Corwin thought he remembered him from the peddler's sale. Corwin felt the cold inside him push out, as if it would try to swallow the fiery Twilif in front of him. He had to put his warm hand against his own chest in order to drive the chills away and clear his mind. He realized that perhaps he should give the Twilif his name.

"I'm Corwin, by the way. I think I saw you before..."

Ro'ark tilted his head slightly to the side, thinking over the twilifs question before simply shrugging. "Nothing in particular no... Why..are you looking for someone?" Ro' asked curiously, politely admiring the twilif before him. His own lantern slung over his shoulder by the long rope attached to it, dangling there lightly while Ro'ark stood and chatted.

Really he hadn't been going anywhere in particular, simply going about on his way with little reason to it..After all he did love to travel, and he never got about enough.

"Ah, Corwin? I'm Ro'ark..maybe we did see each other before, though I can't say that I remember it well. Chances are I wasn't paying very good attention or I'm sure I'd remember someone like you"
The twilif had such unique coloring, he couldn't believe he'd have forgotten him. "Where exactly did we meet..not by the lake I'm sure..maybe in one of the villages?"
PostPosted: Thu Mar 25, 2010 6:33 pm

Corwin paused, running his cold hand through his hair. "Lior, actually. I'm looking for Lior. But I mean... well, you're not him. I've never seen him before... So I don't know what I'm looking for." He sighed, and gave a half smile, "I'm happy to meet you, though, Ro'ark... and I think... our auras look so similar. I thought I saw you with the peddler?" Corwin played with one of his flames again, but he cupped it in his cold hand and made it frost over, before switching quickly for his left hand and heating it again, sending it back on its way. He liked his new aura, and felt like it was one step towards his heat overcoming his dark.

Ro'ark was brilliantly coloured, so much so that Corwin felt comfortable talking with him. Corwin thought about what Ro'ark had said, and laughed suddenly, "Definitely not by the lake."

Ro'ark's lips twitched downwards slightly, a seemingly perplexed expression crossing his face momentarily as he tried to understand..So...the twilif was looking for someone else? "It must be hard to look for someone you've never seen before. Sounds like quite a quest though!" he grinned half heartedly, giving a small shrug. He felt for the other, really he did. Challenges were always good to have in life though, they made things meaningful.

Blinking with recognition, his smile seemed to grow "Ahh! Thats right, the crazy dancing beggar, haha I didn't even recognize you, then again I left quite quickly. That group was sooo...odd.." Ro'ark chuckled happily, his own aura flickering to life at his command, the small flaming spirals swirling close to him, within his reach if he felt the urge to touch them.

"No, not by the lake, not ever before that 'peddler' either. I thought you seemed a bit new, or maybe I'm just very old?" he joked playfully, rather glad to be meeting someone entierly new for once.

Corwin grinned shyly and rubbed the back of his neck with his cool hand, glad that Ro'ark had remembered him too. It would have been a little odd if only one remembered the other. Lior was already far from his mind; it was just another duty, to ask. He wasn't sure he would ever find Basil's brother for him. But since he wandered around so often, he may as well ask everyone he met. Corwin smiled when Ro'ark brought his aura to life. The fire was nice to look at.

"It was an odd place... I just saw the light, and heard the singing, so I made my way over there. And I am a bit new, I guess... I kept mostly to myself, with my guardian." And it slipped out, unbidden. He was new, yes, but someone had been there for him... He could see the face. More and more details were coming back to him, the more Twilifs and other beings he interacted with. Again, the smell of roses, rain water, blood.

Corwin brought his cool hand up to his cheek, closed his eyes and concentrated. Gone. He sighed inwardly, but smiled at Ro'ark. "We can just leave it at me being new, I guess, it's true enough." Corwin looked around them. He had spent a lot of time not carrying out his duty, lately. "Hey, I feel strange just standing here... would you mind walking with me? I usually keep on the move, looking for strays. Only if you aren't busy, though?" Corwin didn't move or leave, he just stood there, after running his hand through his hair again and smiling sheepishly at Ro'ark.

"It was beyond odd, it was rather worth the strangeness though, getting such prizes as we did" Ro'ark chuckled and grinned, the flames surrounding him flickering slightly in time with his rough laughter. He noticed the slight wince that seemed to cross the other twilifs face at the mention of his guardian. Ro'ark himself had never been graced with such a creature...nor was he eager to have one anyways..He found those types a bit of a nuisance. He knew of those who had had one though, and some seemed to enjoy them..while others...well..

"We'll leave it at that then! New works well enough for me, after all we were all new once weren't we? Its a wonderful experience" he smiled softly, nodding in agreement with Corwin. "It is a bit awkward isnt it.." he shrugged gently, motioning for corwin to lead the way. "Not busy at all, and I'm certainly not in a rush to get somewhere. Besides, walking and talking keeps one warm." he was happy enough to continue going, maybe find out a bit more on who was potentially a new friend. Corwin seemed friendly enough, if a touch sad.

"Definitely worth it," Corwin laughed, referring to the auras they'd acquired both. He was relieved that Ro'ark decided to walk with him, and it must have showed on his face. Much nicer to have this fiery Twilif walk with him, while he wandered. It was also nice not to be alone. Living away from others made it kind of quiet. Corwin didn't wholly mind it, but the change was nice.

Corwin began to walk when Ro'ark motioned, his lanterns and aura surrounding him with a glow. He had turned into quite the beacon, even though unlike Ro'ark, his skin was more like the night sky than the fire and light he kept around him. Ro'ark seemed warm like his appearance, and Corwin wondered what else he was like, if there was a temper somewhere in there or only nice, easygoing heat. Corwin figured if he stuck around, he might find out, and neither would bother him much. He was all about the balance between extremes.

Corwin wondered, suddenly, if Ro'ark remembered where he came from. "Ro'ark?" Corwin began, as they walked, "Do you remember much about your past?"

"Though the liquid was rather unpleasant to drink..I think the beggars wears would be better if they were some sort of food instead of a potion" not as if Ro'ark had any clue of how the magic's of the world worked, he reveled in their effects and wonders without ever much questioning the how or why of things. After all..the world was the way it was for a reason right?

Watching the twilifs face beside him seem to light up as they moved on, and the conversation moved with it. He wondered what sort of lonely type his new friend could be, or maybe Corwin was just to kind a soul? There were not many who spent they're time as guiding lanterns about in the world, most simply out for themselves or those they held dear, but hardly for strangers.

"Mnn? My past.." Ro'ark tilted his head back gently, glancing up to the darkening sky above, watching for the twinkle of stars. "Well I imagine I came from here didn't I? We'll..specifically I remember first meeting everyone in the field..there's a vast lake near there, for quite a time it was a hot spot for gatherings" he smiled softly, feeling that Corwin was asking for something much deeper. Truthfully he wasn't sure he knew his past..or if he even had one..a time from before he was what he was now. If he did it must not have been worth remembering..
PostPosted: Wed Mar 31, 2010 9:13 pm

Corwin smiled, but it was a little bitter. His eyes grew dull for a moment, as though he was looking somewhere inside himself and wasn't all there. Which is essentially what he was doing. If Ro'ark didn't remember his past, and he didn't remember his own, was his worth remembering either? Was all that had returned to him just an elaborate dream? Corwin ran a hand through his hair. He still wondered where Ro'ark had come from before, if he really had come from someplace, like Filante had. Well, no matter. Ah, he had been thinking sad thoughts too often lately. It was hard to keep the night at bay all the while.

Snapping out of it, he finally answered, "That's true, the liquid was a little odd... Made my tongue numb for a while." Corwin laughed and rubbed the back of his neck. Then he thought for a while and added, "Everyone in a field? That must have been nice, a gathering... Is the lake not a 'hot spot' any more?" Corwin asked, repeating Ro'ark's term, finding it funny. "I'm not good with lakes at all, they make my temperature almost uncontrollable."

Corwin was done thinking about his past for now. He was happy to live in the present, with his new friend.

"It reminded me of drinking spirits...though more fiery then I would usually prefer" Giving a one shouldered shrug as he listened, watching his fellow twilifs mind seem to drift back and forth between his thoughts. Not that Ro'ark could read minds, noo not a skill he'd ever want either, just something about corwins eyes. It spoke of some sad longing, some deep curiosity or worry.

Ro'ark would not touch upon it though, he preferred to see his newest friend smiling and happy. "Haha! A hot spot, ooh no it's cooled down quite a bit now. Things have changed, the world has changed..Bah, it's still a beautiful lake which ever way you look at it. Even if its no longer the center of everyone's world. The villages have taken place of that, all the gatherings are there now instead of in fields and forests" He grinned, blinking curiously as corwin mentioned his temperature.."Your..temperature? You look fiery enough to me my friend, unless my eyes are playing tricks on me." truly an interesting mystery, of course not everyone could always judge just by the color of another, but that was how he'd done it. Fire was fire, ice was ice..mists and fogs and the flowery types...
PostPosted: Mon Apr 05, 2010 8:23 pm

"Spirits? Corwin was clearly puzzled. He touched his chest, as though protecting his own spirit. "My spirit is pretty fiery, I think; not very good for drinking!" Corwin laughed nervously and ran his hands through his hair, a little confused, hoping that it was a joke. Corwin could see something in Ro'ark's expression that indicated the red Twilif understood what he had felt, and he was very grateful that Ro'ark didn't press the matter.

So these... 'hot spots' were in villages now? Curious. Corwin wondered what those would be like, and if the villages were similar to the one Filante had taken him to. Hevn never had showed him a village; he liked the quiet, and Corwin liked being near Hevn, so they both lived on the outskirts. Not to mention helping travelers was a little easier when they were actually lost.

"Ah... yes, my temperatures. The darkness... and the light, they both have a home in me." Corwin smiled and reached forward tentatively to brush Ro'ark's shoulders with first his right hand and then his left. "My right hand chills and my left hand warms. But when I get wet, I can't control them and they go haywire." He drew his hands back and rubbed the back of his neck with his left hand. "It doesn't feel very good when that happens... so I don't frequent a lot of lakes." Corwin laughed.

"What about you, are you as hot as you look?" Corwin's face was completely blank and innocent; he was clearly oblivious to any other meaning that could have, other than temperature.

"Haha, no no little one not those kind of spirits! No..ah, spirits as in, the drinking type. Its like, alcohol, only spiced and with more kick. Did you know you can actually set it on fire though! Its a wonderful party trick" Ro'ark found himself laughing, absolutely amused by corwins naivety, as well as his new and fresh outlook on things. Ro'ark rarely met someone who was so eager and easy going with things, so happy as well despite whatever it was that was troubling him.

Ro'ark bit down the urge to shiver at the lightly cold touch, much more enjoying the brush of warmth from the boys left hand, certainly he preferred the heat. "Oh..That must be..confusing? I couldn't stand myself if I were of two things, I'd surely get mixed up, maybe accidentally freeze myself!" he smiled softly, feeling rather sympathetic now for the other, such a tough little one to deal with such a thing. To have to watch his own powers for fear of how they might sway one way or another...

"Hah! I'm hotter!" Ro'ark attempted a sexy purr, giving Corwin a cockeyed look that seemed more fierce then 'come hither' "All magma and fire and lava am I, it runs through my veins and ignites everything! I absolutely despise the cold you know..cant even touch cold things without being hurtful..or accidentally melting it." he shrugged and grinned "But I love it all the same, specially when summer comes around, there's not a bit of hot weather that can bother me"
