Spring was the one season he really enjoyed; summer was too hot, winter was too cold and autumn often meant a lack of food. However, spring was the right temperature and there is never a lack of food. In this foreign land, with its dense forests and open fields, he could feel the change brought about by the shift from winter to spring. Back home in Europe, all he could see were buildings all year round, and all he could feel was the temperature of each season... However, in Kawani, you could see God's creations everywhere you look! Life's miracles as well... He himself had recently seen two little miracles of his own in the form of the birth of his two beautiful sons.
He smiled at the thought of his family; his mate wanted some time alone with the children so he had decided to go for a walk. Before he was a father, he would go for frequent walks - they helped calm him and it was good exercise too. After becoming a father, however, his time was filled by the needs of his children. It was tiring work, but watching them grow bigger and more knowledgeable everyday made it worthwhile.
He stopped at a tree, glancing up at the bare branches; it had shed its leaves last autumn, but the many green buds meant that the tree would be covered in leaves again... Then, this coming autumn, the whole cycle would repeat itself. The usdia stallion smiled before going on his way away; it was another one of life's miracles.

Miyako fell out of the tree, or from somewhere more near the ground, narrowly missing the purple stallion. She looked up at the tree, oblivious to the presence of the other usida, and raised a hoof at a chittering squirrel in the tree. "And let that be a lesson to you." She turned and noticed the male usida. "Oh, hey. Didn't see you there. You know, right behind me." She looked up at the squirrel and then back at the stallion, moving to speak in a conspiratory whisper. "Careful of the squirrels, man, they are feisty today."

The stallion jumped, surprised by a loud 'thump' that came from behind him, as if something had fell to the ground from a height. He tensed up, wondering if it was a predator; that would be terrible! Slowly, he turned around to see the source of the sound... A mare? He blinked, looking above the female; broken branches from the tree he was standing under just a few seconds ago indicated that she probably fell from it... But what was she doing up there in the first place? And how could he have missed her standing up there? There were more questions on his mind, but feeling relieved that the stranger was no threat, he offered her a warm smile as a greeting.
However, before he could speak, she did... He frowned slightly, ear flicking, as if trying to understand the mare. However, there were too many words he didn't quite understand. For example, what is a 'squirrel'? He paused after she was done talking, quickly gathering the right words in his mind before speaking; he wouldn't want to appear to be rude by keeping silent after all! Although his Kawani was laced with an accent, Deus hoped that she would be able to understand, "Hello... I not good with- At Kawani... My name is Deus."
He frown as he spoke; the foreign language still feels weird on his tongue...

The mare lifted a hoof. "They call me Miyako. You're not from around here, are you." She lowered her head, setting her hoof to the side of it. "Yes... I sense you are from far away. You were not born in this land." She looked up at him. "What are you doing out here in the forest?"

Deus concentrated hard on what the mare was saying, trying to give meaning to the different words that he managed to pick out. Firstly, at least he now know that her name is Miyako and that she understood the language barrier between them. He shook his head and gave a small smile, "No... Came on ship, on water." He frowned a little; he did not know what they call the sea here, but hopefully, she would understand what he meant by 'water'.
At her question, he frowned slightly, closing his eyes as he tried to recall the word to use; even if some words were used rather frequently, he would still encounter problems when trying to recall them. Rather suddenly, he grinned, opening his eyes before replying, "Walk in forest!" He appeared proud for a moment, glad that he was able to recall the right word to use.
Then, he paused, looking up at the tree that she had apparently fell from. Gesturing towards it, he asked, curiosity lacing his voice, "Why on tree? What's... Squ- Squ- Squirrel?" He knew that his pronunciation was probably off, but there was no helping it; he could only hope he got his question.

"Came on a ship? Wow. That's hardcore just to go for a walk in the forest," Miyako said, a look of awe on her face. "Are you going to go back on the water when you're done with your walk?"
The stallion was a little strange, but Miyako found herself liking his odd speech. It wasn't everyday that she met someone that apparently had come across the sea.
At his question, she tilted her head and looked up at the tree, then back at him. "Don't ponies climb trees where you're from? And a squirrel is a rat with a fluffy tail and a god complex."

The female was using words he did not understand, but that was his own fault; his mastery of the Kawani language was low average at best. He managed to understand her question, however, and shook his head with a small smile, "No, me stay here now... With family." He smiled proudly at the thought of his mate and two sons; he is a fortunate stallion indeed!
Deus blinked at her reply before shaking his head again to her question; he had never seen a Soquili climbing a tree before... Only humans, and even then, it was pretty rare. At her explanation, he looked even more confused, catching only the words 'rat', 'tail' and 'god'. He raised an eye brow, wondering what sort of a creature this animal must be to be compared to God.
"Show me squirrel?" He smiled, trotting over to the tree. He looked up, and gestured for the mare to come over; perhaps he would learn a new word today.

Language barriers made for missed jokes, Miyako learned. She decided that a more serious approach was needed with this stallion. Pointing a hoof up at a rat-like creature in the trees, she informed him, "That is a squirrel."
Looking him over, she tilted her head. "Did your family come with you or are they from here?" She glanced at the tree before looking at Deus again. "I was only joking about climbing the tree."

"Ah!" Deus smiled, blushing a little; he should have guessed... It does sort of look like a rat with a long, bushy tail. Turning back to look at the mare, he laughed, "So that is squirrel! There be few back home." He nodded, as if agreeing with himself; perhaps its due to there being lesser trees, but he had never seen one in the town before... Only in the wilder areas out of town.
"Around here," He replied with another smile, "Children still young, just born..." His voice trailed away and he blushed at her comment; he really thought that Soquilis around here could climb trees, "Oh... Me silly." He chuckled embarrassingly, shaking his head before looking up again.
"You from around the forest?"

"I live that way by the lake," Miyako answered, gesturing with a hoof. She smiled at the news of the stallion's little ones. "You must be proud of your new foals." Then she had another question. "Why did you decide to come here across the water?"

"Ah," Deus nodded and looked in the direction that she was gesturing at; he didn't catch it properly, but from the direction, she probably live by the lake. He chuckled again and smiled proudly, "I am! Grace, my mate, and me didn't plan for children but we happy for them... They be a blessing!"
He paused at the question, wondering if he had the abilities to answer that. Closing his eyes, he frowned a little, keeping silent and deep in thought. Then, slowly, he replied, "Was called to here, by God. Felt I had chance to do something for Him... He gave me Grace and children, but I- I not done anything for Him... Not yet..."
He sighed, forcing a small smile, wondering if she could understand the concept of God. From what he had gathered, the locals are used to believing in spirits and all that... Idol worship. He must sound so alien and weird...

Miyako took that in and nodded. "The Great Spirit does move in wondrous ways. How do you know you haven't done anything for him yet? He gave you Grace and you populated the land with two new foals. I'd say it's a fair trade off."

"The Great Spirit?" Deus blinked as he echoed; the three words, when said separately, made sense. However, when placed together, it didn't make as much sense; how could a spirit be great? He mused over it for a moment - perhaps that is what they call God here? His eyes widened and shone with excitement; so God does exist in this land, in these people's heart, just in a different name!
He laughed, "Wonderous? Wonder... Yes, he works wonders too." He paused, smiling fondly at Miyako, "You right, maybe... But me know... Can do more, do better!" His journey might only be beginning, after all! He bowed his head, "And you, I hope God bless you."

"Sure. He blessed me all over." Miyako trotted a little circle in place to show off her coloring before facing Deus again. "I don't think I'd look this way without a good blessing, yes?" She gave Deus' shoulder a friendly bump with her nose, the equine equivalent of patting someone's shoulder. "I wouldn't worry too much about his plan for you. When he's ready for you, he'll let you know. Till then, enjoy the world he gave you and enjoy your family."

"He did," The male laughed, and nodded at the bump on his shoulder, "Family... Hm... Getting late." He glanced at the sky, realizing that he had been out a good while and that it was probably time to head back. After all, leaving Grace alone at home to handle two young colts for too long a time can't be a good idea... He frowned a little, but smiled as he turned to Miyako.
"Me need go home," He gestured towards the way he had came with a nod of her head. It was a path that would lead deeper into the forest and to a cave with a small clearing in front of it; it was located rather near to the lake Miyako was probably from. Deus smiled warmly, "Come by one day... Grace and the children would like the visit, me think. We not get a lot."
