Maria just stared at Annie. What had she just said?
-“ You...You mean that...You kill people!?”
-“ No! Nono not People, but monsters.”
-“ But you said that those kind of monsters kill people!”
-“ I meant the ones that aren't in control of they’re monsters!”
-“ But... then you are not the last one...”
-“ I said that I was special, didn’t I?”
-“ Then... What are you?”
Annie sighted and tock of her hat. She scratched her head before looking at Maria.
-“ It’s a long and complicated story, and I don’t think you want to hear it...”
Now Maria was mad. She rose from her seat and looked at Annie.
-“ But then you ARE a monster! But get this, I don’t believe in it!”
Annie looked at Maria, and in Annie's eyes she saw... was it sadness?
-“ Don’t be like that.”
-“ What do you mean!? It’s not real! There are no monsters, there aren’t any “real dreams.” They are just stories to frighten kids whit! And if you think I’ll believe in any of that s**t then you are WRONG!”
Annie stared at Maria. She was really mad now and Maria didn’t care if she screamed. The room fell into silence before a little sigh was heard. Annie rose from her seat, putting on her hat again and turned away.
-“ Thanks for the food.” She said before walking to the door. Maria looked after Annie as she disappeared from the kitchen. A few moments later she heard the door shut, and then it was quiet again. Maria sat down again, and it was first now that she felt how fast her heart was beating, how heavy she was breathing and how mad she really was. She took a few deep breaths before closing her eyes. Why was she so mad? It wasn’t like Annie had DONE anything... But she needed to know that Maria didn’t believe in her, for monsters do not exist! But still, Maria had never been this mad at anyone before...
“You might start to feel changes inside of you.”
-“ Damn it!” Maria cursed and walked fast to the door. She took her shoes and ran out. She looked after Annie, but she was completely gone. Maria started to walk into the forest, even though it was getting pretty dark. Her emotions where going up and down, arguing whit herself on the way. Why was she looking for Annie? She had made her angry in the first place! But what if there WAS some truth to it all? What if there WAS a monster inside Maria that maybe would take control over her some day? But she needed proof! This might just be a hormone thing. Maybe it soon was that time of the month?
Suddenly Maria stopped dead in her tracks, and almost stopped breathing. Something was whit her, and it was not friendly. She felt the hair in the back of her neck rise, and all her senses sharpened.
Something was behind her.
It was growling... Or was in hissing? Maria couldn’t get the difference, and now she was battling herself if she would look back or not. She took a deep breath, and slowly turned around.
There, a few meters from her, stood a big creature. She couldn’t really tell WHAT it was, but it was definitely not human. It had bright yellow big eyes that almost popped out from the head, fur that was long and tangled, it was breathing hard and panting. From it’s mouth dripped poisonous green saliva and when it came in contact whit the ground the ground hissed and the grass started to whiter. It was staring right at her, and Maria’s heart stopped. She felt how all her muscles tensed, and her breathing became quick and fast. Her blood was rushing through her body, just like it was ready to fight, or run.
And then the monster screamed.
It was a scream that made Maria's blood grow cold, and she got paralysed. All she heard was that scream, all she saw was it’s eyes, all she could feel was coldness. She couldn’t do anything. Her legs bulked and she fell to her knees.
Was she going to die? What would her mother say? Would they ever find her?
-“ Maria! Wake up!!”
Maria turned around and saw Annie come running towards her, her eyes where glowing in a fiery red colour and she looked mad. Annie ran past Maria and right to the monster. Maria saw how Annie jumped over the monster, and attacked it whit a pair of axes. The monster screamed again, now in a blood thirsty manner, and looked at Annie.
-“ Come on big boy! I know you want to eat me.” Annie said and smiled. Maria couldn’t do anything, she could just stare. Annie was fighting against a monster. A real monster. And she was winning! It was three times bigger then Annie, but she was fast and precise, and whit her axes she cut the flesh of the monster and it’s dark red blood splattered all over the place. Maria was still on the ground when the monster gave out one last fading scream before it fell to the ground and stopped moving. Annie was covered in blood, mostly the monsters but also her own. She walked towards Maria, and Maria looked at Annie. She looked into Maria's eyes, still whit those fiery red eyes.
-“ Do you believe me now?” Annie asked and grinned.
