Things seemed a bit dull. Sitting at the edge of the strange lands she was born in, Ezili looked out, yearning to get out and go somewhere far from this place. Her family was strange to her, and she felt distant from her parents. It may have been the subservient manner in which her father seemed to act, or the disapproving gaze that she, herself, would give him because of it. Ezili was strong, and full of life, and wanted desperately to express that. Maybe that was why she never listened to them.

Flicking her tail, her blue eyes glimmered with excitement, and she bounced quickly from her sitting-stone. She glanced back for a moment, images of her parents flicking through her mind, but she really didn't care. She wanted to be out there, where the world was really something special. Besides, she'd only be out for a little while.

Head turning back ahead of her, a smirk arose on her maw. This was exciting, to say the least. She planned on running until she saw something, met someone, even if it took her til dusk to do so. She stretched her small cub legs out and started on her way, bright pink coat starkly standing out against the grass.

The young adult was running. Though he was spending quite a bit of energy, the vibrant green cheetah just plum didn't care. While he had always been active as a cub, instead of settling down the red eyed male had only become ever more hyperactive. Life was meant to be lived, and sometimes to feel such life, one needed excitement to colour their lives.

For Ezequiel, such colour came in all forms - a race, a fight, a hunt. . . Perhaps even a little danger now and then. Or a lot of danger, depending. The green cheetah was fearless, which had caused him more than a little trouble in his life time. Though he wasn't ancient by any stretch of the imagination, he had quite a few stories under his paw. . . .

Yes, Ezequiel lived a very fulfilling life. Had he found a pride? Yes. But he didn't need the Kitwana'antara to feel complete - it merely offered protection, a constant food supply, companionship and a slightly higher purpose. What was even better, he wasn't tied to the pride. . . . In fact, he was encouraged to roam, to explore, to live life as he saw fit and all they requested in return was news of the outside lands.

Of course, he had been requested to return with cubs or new recruits. But who said he had to get right down to business? All work and no play wasn't Ezequiel's style so this day was no exception. Like a green bolt, the cheetah's heart raced as his chest heaved, streaking over the savanna rather carelessly.

Faster. Must go faster. It was all he could tell himself as he tried to reach top speeds. He wouldn't be able to keep up his sprint for too much longer, but until he practically 'flew' over the savanna, the cheetah refused to yield. It was unfortunate he wasn't paying, and wouldn't pay, attention to the vibrantly pink creature also making her way along directly in his path.

Oh he'd see Ezili all right. . . but by that point he'd practically be on her. With luck, she might notice him first.

She shook her head in the breeze, feeling more like a hoofed beast than a cheetah. Her tail kept her balanced, though, as her un-proportioned cub legs rambled on. She wasn't quite used to running for so long, but it was fun. She found she quite enjoyed being a cheetah. The way the stripes on her legs blurred like a zebra's made her smile, but made her natious if she stared for too long.

Fluffing her head up, her blue eyes moved around, looking for something worthy of stopping. All around her, there seemed to be nothing but green. A sea of green, swaying and flowing and...running? Her paws slowed, and she saw a blur of green moving quickly through the grass. At first, it just looked like her eyes were deceiving her, making the grass seem like it was something other than grass, but a quick flash of white made her look again. She finally came to a stop, quite entranced by the moving creature. She couldn't focus on it, its pattern blending with the grass and confusing her young eyes.

So, as any young cub would do, she started towards it. She didn't think of the danger that it could be, nor did she really care. The risk of danger was what made it so enticing, and she couldn't possibly resist. Starting to run, she couldn't dream of keeping up with the bigger and older cheetah. Gasping for breath, she called out to him in a slight moment of desperation. "H-hey! Wait up!" As soon as the words left her mouth, her front paw caught a dip in the ground, and the bright pink cheetah cub tumbled forward, planting face-first into the dirt. She sniffed a few times, feeling downright defeated. Her first day out, and she couldn't do anything right it seemed. Her eyes watered, and she sat in the dirt, pouting after she thought she'd lost the mystical green creature.

Something caught his eye. At first he thought it might be a meerkat or some small creature that he could pounce upon and snack. But the color was all wrong for a meerkat. . . and while vibrantly pink it was far from being a bird! Oh no . . . it was a cub! Worse, the thing had fallen over directly in his path!

These thoughts took about two seconds to discover, but at the rate he was flying over the hell, Ezequiel was about to run Ezili down. The poor thing would be flattened under his paws! CRAP! Slamming on the breaks, or at least trying to, the green cheetah gave a flying leap. He bounded high over Ezili, and for a moment one might believe he was flying.

. . . no. . . He was falling. Falling hard. "Ack!" Somehow, he realized, this entire situation felt strangely familiar. With Keena and Kisun, the lioness and hare, he'd done almost the same thing. And, just as the wave of deja vue passed, he hit the ground just as hard.

All of his grace and poise abandoned him as he tumbled head over paws, landing in a heap of dust and dry grasses. For a long moment, the green male lay there, chest heaving, heart racing, and he stared up at the world. Oh man. . . what a trip! While others might be ornery and upset by the display, Ezequiel could only laugh. Even though his body was banged and bruised, it didn't matter. . . The rush of the chase, the surprise at the pink thing, and the fact he literally flew had been amazing.

Wow. . . what a great day!

Slowly, cautiously he rolled to his paws. Half of his coat was now covered in dirt and dust, and he certainly looked a bit worse for wear. Still, curiosity got the better of him and he wanted to know what it was he'd almost run over. "Is anyone there? Pinky? You still out there?" Whatever it was, he hoped he hadn't scared it away. . . .

He'd never seen an animal quite so vibrant in color.

Ears flicking up as the sound of crushing grass grew excruciatingly close, Ezili's watered eyes looked up just to see a giant green figure fly over her. It blocked out the sun, and its shadow wholly surrounded the small cub. Her mouth hung open, and her blue eyes seemed lost in the moment. Even the loud thud of the creature hitting the ground seemed to be a dream, and she just stared at the spot it hit for many moments, almost confused as to whether she was supposed to do something or not.

Shaking her head, she sniffed up her tears and jumped to her paws, galloping over towards the crash site the only way a little cub could. Long legs awkwardly flopping around, she slowed, crouching down as she saw the lump of flesh. She smelled its tail first, her small nose barely touching the soft fur. Her ears were up, and she jumped back in shock as it moved. For such an adventurous little cub, she had really had the wits knocked out of her! Huddling in the tall grass, she focused on the creature, quickly determining it to be a cheetah, much like herself. It was similar to her father, but her father was much smaller and much more feeble than the cheetah that stood before her. It really intrigued her, because all her life she had only had her father to compare male cheetahs to, as her brothers were still small just like herself.

"Pinky?" Her small, soft voice squeaked out, and she nervously stepped out from the grass. "My name's not Pinky." She shoved her lower lip out, but, too afraid to face the large cheetah, huddled under him, crouching next to his leg. Because he was so much healthier looking, she wasn't sure if he wanted to hurt her or not. It was just a paranoia that she had grown up with, especially with her father.

Ezequiel had been so rattled he had hardly noticed the approach of the little pink cub. At the sound of a very tiny, very small voice, the male's ears turned. Red eyes going wide with surprise, he craned his neck and spotted the source of such a voice - a cheetah cub!

RIGHT THERE!

Stepping away from the female, if only so he could turn to face her, Ezequiel took a moment to look her over. She was indeed very pink, and very bright. He'd never seen such a color before, certainly none in his family had been pink. Green was their shade of choice. . . green and white, at any rate. Smiling a lop sided grin, he sat and gave a little laugh. "Fair enough, Mademoiselle," he purred softly, bowing is head. "If not Pinky than, might I inquire your name? I'm Ezequiel'unai . . Didn't mean to run ya over there," he added with another little laugh. Hopefully she wasn't too scarred! Man. . . It was strange to see such a small cheetah. It amazed him that he had once been so small and frail looking.

((Sorry for the short post! Will get you something longer next one. :3 Got interrupted like 18 times . . .so I'm just posting it! *laughs*))

Feeling the large shadow move from above her, Ezili crouched close to the ground, wrapping her tail around her small body. Her nose was pointed down, but her blue eyes stared up at the green cheetah with a slight wonder- he was definitely a better looking cheetah than her father was. He was tall, kind, and he seemed unafraid.

"Your name is too long." Forming a small 'o' with her mouth, Ezili wasn't trying to be mean, she was just stating her personal preference. Her father, and some of her siblings, had long names, and she never liked using them. She had always come up with pet names for them, or just little nicknames taken from their name. "I want to call you Ezzy." Squinting her eyes as she looked up at him, she hoped it was okay. To her, little names like this made a bond that was more than just acquaintances, and she wanted to be friends. "Can I?"

Standing up, she padded over next to him, rubbing up against his leg, making a smaller purring sound. "My name is Ezili." Smiling up at him, he seemed like a nice cheetah. But maybe that was just Ezili's way of being 'up-in-your-face' that made him seem nicer.

(( Sorry about the wait on this. ;n; It caught me right as school got out. D: ))

The spotted cheetah looked down at the vibrantly furred cub. She certainly was amusing, and it continued to surprise him that he had once been so small. Had he also been as bold? Of course he had been! Well. . . sort of. Near the beginning of his life he'd been a little bit of a whiner, but after gaining some experience and maturity he had bounded off to find his fortune! For a long time he refused to settle anywhere with anyone or anything, and had constantly been searching for the next rush of adrenaline. He'd been hyperactive and full of energy. . . shoot. . . he still was, as proven by almost running over Ezili. But life was a little calmer now. At the very least he was settled in one general location.

Chuckling as the young female complained about the length of his name, the green male gave nod. "Of course you can call me Ezzie." It was the first nickname he'd had in a long time but it wasn't unusual. Some of his siblings when they were cubs had called him Ez, so to have a pink furred cub call him something similar wasn't strange. It was almost endearing.

As the pink and black cub purred and cuddled up against him, Ezequiel couldn't help but grin. She was very friendly for a cub, but it was a nice change. He decided to humor her, to work on more a cub level. "Ezili huh? I think we were bound to meet since both our names start with E-Z. Does this mean I can all you Ez then? Though Ezili is a pretty name. . . And isn't nearly as long as my own." Some cubs liked nicknames - he might as well ask though.

"So what are you up to, out in these rogue lands? Is your family far or have you struck out on your own to find your fame and fortune?" She seemed awfully young to be alone but . . . well. . . he'd left when he'd been young. Who was he to judge?

Wiggling her rear back and forth, Ezili grinned as she heard his answer. It made her feel like she had just gained a new friend, one that she could go to whenever she wanted to get away, as often as that was....but the thought, she knew, was rather unreasonable, but she fancied her cub-dreams.

She watched in a sort of awe as he came down closer to her. His eyes were so....striking.

"Ez?" Glancing upwards for a few moments, she rolled the nickname over in her head. "Sure, if you want to." Snapping her head back down to look at him, she smiled, looking almost embarrassed. No one had ever shortened her name before - in fact, her name was the shortest in her family. She almost hated the fact that she was constantly surrounded by oddly long names whenever she was home - well, that wasn't really what bothered her when she was home. It was just one of many.

"Even though it's long, I still like it." Her eyes seemed deep in thought. Wiggling her whole body like a serpent, she flicked her blue eyes back up at him, taking in a deep breath. Her heart seemed to sink with his next question. "Oh, I have a family." Her mood dropped, and her energy slipped away. "I just don't like to be around them." Slowly lowering herself into a seated position, she felt so weighted down by all of the negativity. "I know it sounds horrible, but I just don't....like them." Sure, she was happy that she even had a family at all - but there was something that was always eating away at her, every time she was around them. It was mainly her father's submissive nature that she disliked. It killed her, having to watch as her father repeatedly displayed weakness. But she still loved him. Which is what turned her away - she knew that if she was around her family for too long, she'd just grow to hate them.

"I'm a pretty bad daughter, huh?" Laughing a little, she kept faint tears back. She wanted this moment to be happy, meeting someone new.

"So what....are you doing out here, Ezzie?"

The young cheetah was surprised at how forthcoming the little pink and white cub was. She didn't like her family? It was an unusual concept for the older cheetah, the realization that someone didn't care much of their kin, brothers, sisters. Ezequiel had never any concerns or issues with his mother or father. They had all been close, even if they had been rogues. His brother had always been a bit full of himself, but his sister was sweet, and Ezequiel missed them even now.

But he had his own life to live, and had found a place amongst a great pride. A sick pride, but it was their illness that gave him a sense of belonging. He had been able to help them and would be able to assist them in all their needs. It felt good to have a purpose, even if he gave up some of his freedom.

His ears pricked a bit but he gave a small shake of his head. "Just because you don't like them doesn't make you a bad daughter at all. I'm sorry to hear you don't get along well with them. . . but at least you can get away from time to time. And you won't have to always be around them." He wasn't sure if it was good to encourage her feelings, but he also knew that sometimes feelings changed. Perhaps she didn't like them now, but that didn't mean she couldn't come to care about them someday in the future. Feelings changed. He'd never thought he'd leave his family, yet he hadn't seen them in years. He still loved them, but he could live without them.

"I left my family, but I was a bit older than you. I wanted to see the world, so I did. I even found a pride to assist, which is what I'm doing out here now. I'm a scout, and I bring back news of various prides, or new members or lostlings and orphans. I'll admit, I was kind of racing just for the fun of it and wasn't doing my duty when I ran over you," he grinned a bit sheepishly before giving a shrug. "But I'm glad of it. At least we got to meet!"

Hearing the older cheetah’s words, Ezili almost felt foolish. But she was allowed to, right? She knew better than anyone that she was young, and that she really didn’t know much about anything. It kind of really bothered her, and she wanted so badly to just grow up so she could go away from everything forever. She always dreamed of living her own life, far away from past traditions that seemed to bind her and her family. It just wasn’t what she wanted at all.
“I really do wish I could get along with them more.” Bouncing up on her toes for a moment, she gave a little smile. “’Cause you see, Ezzie, it’s not that I don’t love my family or anything. It would be downright awful if I didn’t.” Laughing for a moment at her words, she at least knew this much about her feelings, even if they didn’t really make sense. “I just want my memories of them to be of us all getting along. But I don’t think…that’s what’s happening.” Pushing her bottom lip out a bit, Ezili looked like she was pouting. And really, she was. She felt a little bad about pushing all of her negative thoughts and feelings on someone else – especially an adult, who had probably dealt with things much worse than just these little family disagreements. But it was the fact that she was still just a cub that made her not really care about any of that. It felt good to tell someone else, especially this new friend.
“I think momma knows how I feel sometimes. I think she knows that I’m different than the rest of them. And someday, I’ll go somewhere far from this place. All I’ll ever think about is the happy times here with them.” In her head, it all made sense. She wanted to leave so fast, so that the bad times would just wash away, only leaving good things to think about. “But I think I think too much.” Crouching down, she squished her cheeks with her front paws, glancing up sheepishly at the adult. "I am glad we got to meet. But I think I have to go back soon. I'll come back here later and we can talk more!" The little cub rose up, giving the older cheetah a long and serious stare to make sure she remembered every detail of him for their next meeting. Making a swift turn, she hurried off, back to her family before her mother would start to worry.
