After the talk with her mother the other day Aleu was back to her chipper self as she padded through the forest humming a merry tune. The knowledge that taking a change and possibly not getting what you wanted was much better than missing out on an opportunity was fresh in her mind. It all made sense and Aleu was surprised that she hadn't though up those same things herself. But she was still young and learning things so it was nice to have her mother around to lend advice here and there.

And she just needed to use the confidence that she was feeling now and go face her fear. This was an opportunity to no be missed, after all like her mother says you can always back track on love. If that was the case then she would just tell him what she thought - no, what she felt, and he would either accept that or crush her heart. Either way she would not let this possibly once in a life time chance pass her by. Eyes scanned the trees as she padded along. Now where could he be?

Verse was trotting through the woods in a fairly good mood, the birds were singing the bees were buzzing and spring was surely on its way in. Spring was something to celebrate as far as he could see - he knew he wouldn't miss the snow in any case though he had a feeling his surrogate mother might. She had grown up in the mountains after all.

As he trotted through the woods the the tan colored wolf found himself rhyming out the words to a new poem, though he wasn't really thinking about it - or even realizing it completely.

"With her cap of white...and her voice so light!" he recited n a cheery light voice as he paced down the game trail completely oblivious to anything going on around him.

Aleu froze in her tracks. That voice, she would know it anywhere. Those words - was he walking about her? She could feel herself start to panic already and she couldn't even see him yet. Oh gods, what was she thinking? Aleu looked about almost frantically for someplace to hide or run to. No, she told herself firmly, you cannot miss out on this opportunity.

With a nod of her head and her resolve somewhat restored Aleu turned in the direction the voice had came from. Turned out he wasn't all that far away at all. Spotting his tan hide behind the trees she paused again. Should she just walk out there or perhaps make her presence known to him first. After all, if he was making a poem about her he might not say it to her should he be caught off guard. Hide, that's what she would do, hide and just see what else he was up to first. Ducking behind a tree Aleu thought she had made a clean escape until she heard the snap of a small branch - crap. Freezing instantly Aleu hoped he would just keep walking and not look behind the tree.

"It's to bad I'm not a Knight, fore she deserves a hero right!" Verse continued to rhyme without really thinking about it. His feet drumming along the pathway in a rhythmical manner, sure he told Aleu he didn't like music but well he was a sucker for a good beat. Who wouldn't be?

"one to come in from the night and be a bright and shining sig..'Verse pause as a loud snap sounded behind him, skidding to a top - Merrill's words of bears crawling through his head as he looked around. Nah..it couldn't be a bear, bears were noisy right? Of course they were they were huge. Huge and clumsy. "Who's there?" He called out, ears swiveling and eyes scanning.

Aleu was rather enjoying his poem, and just as it was getting really good he stopped at the sound of the snapping branch. Curses she should have been paying more attention, this would have never happened otherwise. As he called out she instinctively crouched down a bit - out of fear and embarrassment. Oh this could not be happening. Should she answer him or try to run away and hope that he wouldn't spot her.

Don't miss out on opportunities, she told herself firmly. And with that she stood and walked out from behind the tree. "It's just me Verse." She said, though she wished with all her might that he had have just kept walking. This was making her confidence go away - yet again.

Verse was beginning to think he really was imaging things when no one came out at his summons. Or maybe it was a bear...that thought made him a bit nervous, his adoptive mothers dislike of them had certainly been passed down. Well weather or imagined of bear Verse thought perhaps the best course of action would be to just make tracks and get outta dodge.

He was in he process of turning to do just that when Aleu made her presence known. Aleu...the tan wolf felt his stomach drop slightly as he recalled what he'd been rhyming when the twig snapped. Just how long had she been hiding? How much had she heard, he gave a nervous laugh at this thought and covered it up quickly as though he was laughing at himself. "Oh..well you startled me there" He admitted with another nervous laugh. "uh..how long have you been there?"

If she could find a hole to hide in Aleu probably would have done just that, and stayed in it for the rest of her life, but that wasn't an option right now. She would just have to take it all in stride. Be confident, she told herself, you cannot miss any more opportunities.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to sneak up on you." She said half embarrassed. "Oh," Aleu began to stumble over her words. "I wasn't there long...I was wandering around, heard a noise and came to see what it was." She couldn't believe that she just lied to him, though admitting that she was hiding in the bushes listening to his poem about her didn't seem like a good thing to admit to.

Well that was a relief Verse thought to himself as he calmed slightly - that meant she probably hadn't heard anything too embarrassing. "Oh...okay, I was just...wandering too" He told her lamely, though it wasn't entirely an untruth I mean he hadn't really had any sort of destination in mind or anything.

"I just heard that twig snap and thought it might be a bear" He continued as though trying to explain away his reaction - which he decided just made him sound silly so he continued on "Mom's been on about them again you know?" He continued on - yeah there we go blame Merrill and her obsession, that would fix it.

She let out a small chuckle. "Well it certainly wasn't a bear." Though why he had stuck around if he thought it was a bear was beyond her. Bears were dangerous and it was best to just get outta the way before they found you. But perhaps he was just trying to sound brave to her, standing up to a possible bear.

"So," she began and glanced about. Well dang, it probably would have been a good idea to ask her mother exactly how one went about seizing an opportunity. Of course that would have led to saying what the opportunity was. Slipping into that awkward silence Aleu thought frantically to come up with anything to say. Oh, there was an idea. "Did you ever finish that poem for Merrill?" It wasn't the best save ever, but it would have to do.

"Thankfully not" He agreed with Aleu, who was certainly nothing near the size of a bear. Though he had to admit when he looked at her she'd definitely changed allot since he'd first come to live in the pack - she wasn't a rolly little puppy anymore..an she was even tarting to leave behind the gangly stage of growth and fill out into something closer to what she might be as an adult.

He was too, and the thought of this made him puff out his chest a bit before answering her question "I did, I think she liked it well enough, have you been working on any projects lately?" He asked her curiously. It had been a while since he'd heard once of Aleu's songs.

The puff of his chest was subtle but Aleu picked up on it, though she hide the fact that she did. Just what caused him to do that? Pushing that thought from her mind she focused on what he said. "I'm sure she liked it, Merrill just has odd ways of showing it sometimes. It was a good poem from what I remember." A smile crept upon her maw and she had to force it not to get much large as she once again took in Verse's frame.

He certainly had grown much since he first arrived, and it was a welcome change. "I haven't been working on too much lately." She admitted, ever since her siblings and father came back Aleu had been having issues with finding the right inspiration for her songs. "What about you? Been working on anything lately?" Damnit why couldn't she just say what she wanted to.

"Well.." Verse started to say, perking up a bit as the thought of recounting his latest poetical work to Aleu who at least valued the arts to some degree...until he recalled that the poem he was working on was about her, his eyes flicked left and right for a few moments as thought looking for an out in this conversation "errr...no, no i'm afraid I haven't been, been busy training you know? training for hunting...and stuff" Well that sounded lame even to him but it was at least partially true. He'd been working hard on his hunting skills.

"I guess we're both in somewhat of a slump" He lied after a few moments of thought as he shuffled his feet.

She was somewhat disappointed that he didn't admit to her that he had been working on a poem about her. But if it wasn't done then she supposed it was best to wait and see if he came to tell her it later. It would be a good poem, she had enjoyed what she had heard of it. "Ah," she said in regard to his training. "Merrill is a good teacher." She took a step closer to him. "Maybe one day we can see who is the better student." It was half a joke and half serious, as Aleu would love to see Verse out on a hunt one of these days.

"Maybe we both need to find something that will inspire our creative sides." Aleu had many things that inspired her, but the more they talked, the more she relaxed - which would hopefully lead to her seizing this opportunity.

Verse had the sense that Aleu was a tad dissapointed - well he could have come up with something on the fly he supposed, but with his luck it would have been terrible and he couldn't come up with a decent topic right now anyways because she was...

His eyes widened slightly as she stepped forward, she was even closer then before and Verse's mind was completely blank What on earth she just said - he'd seen her lips moving sure but for the life of him he couldn't comprehend for a few moments until he finally caught the last few word 'inspire our creative sides', her eyes were rally pretty this close...Shaking his head slightly Verse took a step back 'Uh..errr yeah, you know I think I just got inspired... but uh..that flower over there" He told her with a nod of his head before dashing off "I'm going to go and work on that now..bye!" His voice sounded just a bit hysterical as he left.

For a moment there Aleu thought he would say something, perhaps recite a new poem, or talk more about his training with Merrill. The reaction she got was the one she least expected. He ran away! Maw open in surprise Aleu watched as Verse dashed off. What was that about? Standing there dumbstruck for some time as she watched him disappear, before finally turning away, anger rose in her. "Males!" She half yelled, though chances are Verse was too far away to hear that. With nothing else to do Aleu stormed off towards her den.
