What is the best thing about Sailor Saturn / Hotaru Tomoe? Is it her weapon, her personality, the way she looks, her dark past, the fact that she's just so much cooler than the other Sailors, or something else? What do you guys think?

Go read my mini essay ninja Seriously though. My favorite part of Saturnness is that she's a compilation of opposites that create a perfect balance. The other senshi have one major personality trait, and most of them are negative:
Mars = temper
Mercury = one track mind
Venus = passionate
Moon = innocent
Jupiter = headstrong
Neptune = one track mind
Uranus = headstrong
Pluto = calm
ChibiMoon = obsessive-compulsive (don't fool yourself, she's insane.)
Saturn however is calm, passionate, and gentle. She heals as well as destroys. She protects and attacks all in one breath. She's really the embodiment of a perfect senshi. Uranus THOUGHT she was willing to do anything to save the world, but she couldn't even kill one person. Saturn is willing to destroy the world if that's the only way to save it. A perfect soldier. She's upset by that part of her though, and strives to be a kind and gentle person when not in her fuku. heart

i love the fact that she is welling to lose her self for the ones she loves and her life is not at all like the rest of the sailors and she holds the end in her hands cool

I really enjoy the fact that she has this dark nature, but she still abides by senshi credo. She wants to protect the princesses and the earth no matter what, even though the others wanted to kill her. I really like to contrast of the outer senshi to the inner senshi. They are not innocent, they have all had to kill at some point, but they all still love the princess and want to protect her even when it went against their nature.

Her personality! How caring she is torwards her friends. I was so relieved that Sailor Moon turned her into a baby so she wouldnt die.

Ok, this is a long list so let me get started.
Honest
Original (See her first Fuku)
Trustworthy
Agile
Radiant (Let's face it.. she gorgeous)
Understanding
She's loyal to her friends, unafraid to use her Senshi power of destruction but only as a last resort. She doesn't complain or whine about having to be a Senshi. She had the chance in Stars to say something like, "I don't want too." but instead she says "I am Sailor Saturn."
What other Scout has the power to heal people AND become a kid again?
Just before she goes to defeat Pharaoh 90 she tells Sailor Moon these words:
"...I'm the one person alive who can save the world from destruction. Believe in me...They call me the Sailor Scout of Destruction only because I possess powers that could destroy a planet. They fear me but once I use my powers I will be destroyed."
Of all the Senshi I think she has the most faith in Sailor Moon.
To put it more simply she has everything, Beauty, Brains, Loyalty, Courage and so on. After all this I only have one question...
Why doesn't she have a girlfriend or boyfriend?

First off Sailor moon didn't turn her into a baby. She has the power to rebirth herself. This is exactly why I don't like the anime version very much they keep making every miracle sailor moons doing & it's not! People have to accept there's some things the ugly stupid blonde can't do. *coughs* ok back on track.
Hotaru seems to posses a wisdom beyond her years. She speaks & sees with the eyes of an adult unlike her childish best friend. She is the best senshi & doesn't go off crying like a big baby when it's time to die. She'll sacrifice herself in a second & can destroy everything. Her weapon is cool but her personality & mysteriousness are the best parts about her. There's just so much more I can say about dear Hotaru chan. She's clearly the best & powerfullest senshi. Wish the anime would show more of her.

BTW: I know Sailor Moon didn't turn her into a baby. Who said she did? I agree with you that Sailor Moon isn't good at everything.

The anime doesn't make it look like Sailor Moon does everything. The 4th season, Sailor Moon SS, revolves around Sailor Chibimoon. ~coughandiwatchthisseasonwhy?cough~ I don't really see how Chibimoon having a season dedicated to her does anything. It's just a waste of footage in my opinion. ANYWAY, enough of that, time to get on topic.
Sailor Saturn is my favorite senshi, because she's so unique. We have a lot in common, actually. If Sailor Saturn is a choice, every personality quiz says I am her. Since then, I've been watching every single episode of Sailor Moon so I can see every bit of her there is. Unfortunately, she isn't in it enough. I like nearly every aspect of Sailor Saturn, because I can relate to her a lot.
I'm not sure I can say anything that no one else has said. sweatdrop Her sad past of not having many friends is something I can relate to though. She's different and I like her for that. I'm also wondering why she doesn't have a boyfriend. Perhaps it's because she's so shy or she's not interested in anyone. I believe she's perfectly content with listening to her papa. He's the only relative she actually has.
What is there not to like about the soldier of rebirth and destruction? She's weak, yet has a lot of power. When I say she's weak, I'm not saying she can't do anything. She can do A LOT, because she is able to destroy the world in order to save it. If you haven't noticed, she can't really run very far without getting tired and fainting. Unfortunately, I can relate to that and I also don't like P.E. She's intelligent, yet isn't a complete know-it-all. I also like Hotaru for her mystery. Even though she's loyal and likes being with her friends, she's still the senshi of destruction. Not to mention the fact that she's the only senshi with a power when not transformed.
I actually see why she wants to be a doctor. She can easily heal people and help others that need it. The factor that makes her so easily liked is not only her mystery, but her kindness to others despite the power she wields. The friends she has are completely loyal to her and would sacrifice a lot to make sure she's happy. Even Chibusa, who's Miss. Useless, is able to have a trait I admire. I admire her loyalty for Hotaru and the fact she accepts her for who she is.
Chibiusa may be a brat, but we all have to at least agree that opposites attract. It helps for them to have something in common that'll help their friendship though. For example, Hotaru and Chibiusa are both loyal. We may not necessarily like her, but Hotaru does; she sees the good in people and is very thoughtful. Who wouldn't find it able to enjoy the arguments between Usagi and Chibiusa? They're hilarious.
Anyway, there's my two cents. It isn't the best and I'll probably edit it one day when I learn more about Hotaru. My knowledge of her is still limited. I'm still watching the rest of the anime. Perhaps someday I'll be able to get the Sailor Moon manga. For now, however, my riches are limited. sweatdrop
