Never before, had it been a park. In all of her negaverse hunts, she had chosen areas within the city- mostly dark alleys. As it was, parks tended to attract too much attention. It wasn't as easy to hide a body there, especially when so many others lurked within the darkness, there was no telling who.

But tonight, she felt as if an invisible force had dragged her there and before she knew it, she had found herself standing at this bench.

No longer standing, per say. Laying on a bench nearby, back flat, legs dangling from one side, she laid there as if she was star-gazing. She made no attempt at the hunt, instead choosing to lay back for once and relax. Her monotonous routine of hunting star seeds and battling senshi now bored her. When she had received this power, she had thought life would have brought her something.. more.

Is it too much to ask for a little excitement? She mused aloud, as she stretched one hand out to the sky as if to grab a star.

Castor knew that hat. He also knew that bench. Two very different things, in totally different worlds. This was how Castor saw Val on the bench. "Life is exciting, depending on how it's played." He had done his best to try and sneak up at her from behind. Val was an attacker. A fighter. Sure, she talked like he did, but she would still fight. He remembered that cross thing she had.

Castor laughed, remembering how that ended. "So, ring mistress," he hissed out the 's' in what he considered to be a great snake impression. "Who is on casting call for tonight's performance?" He was getting slightly better with his joke...pun...things.

"You and me baby, in the ring. Rematch.” Val replied, taking the time to sit up and grin at the Senshi before her.

She had recognized that voice- It had been Castor’s. And while she hadn’t been on the most pleasant terms with Senshi—Castor was the one exception she’d allow. After all, he had saved her freezing a** the fight before. Not that she couldn’t save herself of course, but a little extra help was always welcomed.

Swinging her legs over the bench into a normal sitting position, “Sure you should be wandering out here so carelessly?” She teased, with a wave of her hand as she motioned to the surrounding area. While waiting for his andwer, she reached over to retrieve her hat from the seat on the bench beside her, leaving room for the senshi whether he cared to sit or not.

Not that it mattered. He could have stood there for all she cared.

"Sounds like fun. I always like a good rematch." Unless it was with Nealite or Obsidian. He lost those...a lot. "As for careless wanderings..." he smiled, pleasant as day. "You could say I'm a sucking for danger. Now Val," he bowed, taking off his imaginary hat to her.

"Are you inviting me to sit and chat, or, are we here to fight? While I don't like beating on girls, as you might know, I do think talking would boring. Unless you want to go back to my place for talk of a little more intimate?" He knew his vow. No negachicks. Didn't mean he couldn't hit on them and tease them. "Because I'm pretty sure my boss would love to hear what the negaverse has got cooking."

"Likewise." Val replied, breaking into a laugh at the senshi's antics to be playful. He enver failed to amaze her with that silly and carefree attitude of his.

Replying to him in the same easy manner, "I'm inviting you to sit, of course." She answered, with a grin of her own. She would have thought it was obvious; He wasn't on the ground, was he? "Like I'd fight you?" She scoffed, dismissing the idea with a wave. The thought of losing, and getting her a** kicked again was enough to make her vomit; There was no way in hell she was about to fight him, if she could help it.

And Castor's feelings appeared to be mutual, as he moved on to invite her over to his place. Chuckling, she settled for placing a patting hand on his shoulders. "With a playboy like you?" She teased, "I don't think so. Who knows what would happen?"

If their last encounter was any indication, she had an idea.

Not that she wasn't tempted, but if Charonite had ever found out, he'd kill her. As tempting as Castor was, she wasn't willing to risk her life over a simple boy.

.. But then again, Castor was no mere boy either. The thought of the General-King sobered her up slightly, as she recalled the Charonite's words at their last meeting. "You want to know what's going on? I can tell you that the king has his entire army hunting you down, that's what."

"I'd rather not sit to be honest, makes a man an easy target." His grin was all over his face. "And you should know that I'm not up one to make myself and easy target." Castor was quick to ignore his past mistakes. Mistake that had at times, cost him dearly. The bench made him smile.

Some mistakes, he didn't regret.

"The whole army huh?" His hand took hold of her own. "Well Val, you don't seem to keen on hunting me down. Or fighting. My boss gave me an order as well though." Castor's other hand cupped her chin. "Kill." Something dark flickered in his eyes, something that clearly showed he could do it, he would do it. Then that light faded, his hands moved away.
He wouldn't do it.

"I really don't like fighting girls you know. Even insane ones." Ones like Tanzanite, who blood stain was still visible. "And defiantly not ones with cute top hats and sensible choice making skills." He backed off slightly. "But, an order is an order...Maybe..." Castor's shoulders rolled. "We could just half a** it? Then we can both get off the hook. I sure as all hell don't need another bitching from Astraea, er Luna, er well whatever her name is. Point being, we half a** the fight, everybody wins."

Everybody wins.

Yeah, right.

Despite the easygoing rivalry between them, Valleriite sensed something amiss.

Cupping her chin in his hand, Castor tipped her face towards his as if to, call her ludicrous but she felt as it was to trap her-- if only, merely for a moment. And for a split second, Val felt a shiver of fear run through her spine. Fear of Castor. Castor, who she assumed to be nothing more then a simple playboy.

Kill.

She could have killed a person without flinching, but never had she imagined Castor to..

Eyes wide in surprise, she averted her gaze from the senshi's own. She kept her emotions discreet, pretending to examine the strange stain on the ground with intense interest. A few minutes later, he let her go but the places he touched felt as if they burned.

Castor had changed.

That much she knew for sure. She couldn't quite place her finger on it, but Castor's dark eyes had reminded her of a warrior's. A warrior's intent to kill.. the same as Tanzanite's. And that wasn't a good sign.

Pasting a shallow grin on her face, she turned towards the senshi with a forced laugh. "That's not how we work Castor. We win or we lose."

Some people would call change good, progressive. If they were naive, they would claim this 100% of the time. If they were knowledgeable about the past changes and what such changes could mean for whole civilizations, they would say 'not always'.
If they were like Castor, they would say that such a quote is bullshit and can't be applied to everything or anything. To something like emotions.

"Val, I'm not going to lie to you. This one man show used to come with a second act." He was moving away from her. His face also seemed a bit...sad? "But after a few budgets cuts and less then spectacular past performances, we've had to make a few choices." A space between them ended at a few steps. Just out of each other's range of attack. "While I don't agree with those choices, I can't help but follow them. That isn't to say, I have to follow them to the letter." It was said to him once that each person had the capacity, the 'nerve', to kill, but few had the will to do it. Looking at Castor's face, it was clear. He had all the never, but none of the will. He could kill, but would rather not.

He did not want to kill.

"We're not on the same stage anymore Valley." He gave her another nickname. Maybe to draw out some of the tension? "Stop running with the circus and run home." Castor sighed, eyes closing. Reopened. That dark blue haze of determination had set in. "Run while you still can Valleriite."

Stiffening at his words, Val fear's of Castor was overshadowed by her furious reaction towards his little 'dismissal'. Who did he think she was? She wasn't someone he could order around so easily, nor was her position one to belittle.

An offended expression crossed her face, as she stood up, and brought her hand up to his face. And without a second's notice, gave him a hard slap against the cheek.

Wha-pack.

The sound rang clear in the night, as Val stood there with a furious expression within her eyes. "Not gonna happen." She announced, in a curt tone, her tone seething with anger. She didn't what he was getting at, 'the second act', and all but to her, it didn't matter. Her naivete was painfully obvious in the fact she didn't understand the meaning nor kindness behind Castor's words. She had only taken his words as a challenge to her pride, and she wasn't willing to let it go.

Unfortunately, she had the sense to know that she wasn't up to his level. She had already admitted it to herself and him only a few moments ago.

"Try and kill me." She couldn't believe that he would, but the determination in his eyes said otherwise.

Laughter bubbled up before blue eyes fell to Valleriite's form. The laughter slowed as Castor rubbed his cheek. He had no doubt a hand print was forming. His blue eyes were still looking down at her. Condescending.
"You should have aimed for my chest." His first swung upward at her chest. He wasn't aiming to grab her starseed, he was just aiming to hit. Castor was somewhat true to his word. He wasn't holding back anymore. Castor was aiming to cause damage. Castor was going to try and kill.

Though she had uttered just a ridiculous statement, she really couldn't believe that Castor was truly trying to kill her. Yet, here he was, ready to fight.

To the death.

Though she had prepared herself, she wasn't prepared at all. His fist swung upwards while she threw out her arms to defend herself while leaping back. Though she had leapt with perfect execution, she stumbled back slightly on the landing. A sign of her rising panic. Panic, not from the fear of death, but fear of turning a blade upon a friend.

But he wasn't a friend.

In the war between them, he was the enemy. She refused to believe it. Her anger turned to confusion, as she struggled with her feelings about Castor; feelings of friendly affection against forced obligation to kill him. "Why?!" She said, with furious tears brimming in her eyes. "I don't understand why you're doing all of this, Castor." She said, clenching her rod to herself while bracing herself for another attack. She didn't want to fight him.

"If you wanted to kill me from the start, then why? Why did you save me?"

He wanted to scream. It was all so pointless to him. So ******** pointless. They fought because they were told to fight. No questions. Sure, Castor fought some because he knew they were evil, but really...He didn't want to. Peace was all well and good, but with how things were, peace was not an option.

"Listen Val." Cracking his knuckles, Castor got ready for his second run. "I don't...want to hurt you. But I can't just let you go." He took a step towards her. "I saved you because..." Castor's eyes couldn't meet her own. They remained downcast, avoiding. "Because it's what I do. Just..." Word stuck in his throat. "Just run away Val. From experience, getting connected with a senshi-" A tiny bitter laugh. "It really doesn't end well for either side, no matter how we feel."

Castor was one of the rare few who was able to catch Val's broken composure, as she awaited an answer from the senshi. It seemed an eternity had passed, before Castor began to speak.

"I don't...want to hurt you. But I can't just let you go."

Struggling with his words, Castor's face was distorted into an expression of agony- a pain that Val didn't understand. Nor could she, with Castor leaving her with vague explanations and half-finished sentences. Val understood that the war between both sides was a battle of domination; where both senshi and Negaverse were forced to fight regardless of the situation. But they had both known that, since from the very beginning. So then, why was he acting like this now?

She knew that it couldn't have been a simple change of heart, something else had happened.

The silence was deafening, as silence between them lingered on. Castor's eyes were downcast, avoiding her's, as he tried to warn her away. By his clenched fists, restrained manner and harsh words; she knew that if she fought, she couldn't guarantee her own safety. And he was trying to protect her by offering her this one last chance to leave.

But she couldn't.

Her face turned pale as he eyes shut tight in a uneasy manner. "I can't." came the reply, as she opened her eyes once more to reveal an expression of wary determination. Call it instinct, but she felt that if she left now..

Everything would simply shatter to pieces.
PostPosted: Mon Apr 26, 2010 1:17 pm

Watching her was almost like watching a mirror. Neither would back down and walk away. Neither would surrender. Castor sighed as he let his body relax. A moment reprieve. They had made their decisions, their commitments. They couldn't hold back, not anymore.

"I'm sorry Val." Castor's arm raised skyward. "I wish there was another way." The arm was raised, and his face showed grim determination. "Stinging Storm!" His arm came down, as did his attack. Small sharp fragments of ice.

He was still holding back.

She had expected this. What other choice was there? She reflected sadly upon herself. Castor had warned her..

And as expected, he kept true to his word. For all his lechery, he was an honest man. Though Valleriite would have liked to think of him otherwise, in order to conjure up some ill will towards the man, she simply couldn't. She didn't have a personal grudge towards him- they fought, but only because they were enemies. The fact that he opposed her, should have been reason enough for Val to fight. But to her dismay, it wasn't.

Raising his hand high above him— the trademark of most senshi, she knew that he was preparing to launch his attack. Stinging Storm. An familiar attack she knew well from past experience. But unlike before, she didn't plan to be caught within it again.

Jumping backwards, her gaze darted nervously from the right to left, and back again in search for some sort of defense. Seeking cover from behind a large tree, she was able to avoid the brunt of the attack. Though a few stray shards manage to pierce her from the side; shredding her clothes, and leaving shallow cuts from her skin, allowing the blood to drip from her skin. "s**t.." She winced at the pain, but displayed no obvious sign of her suffering.

A uncharacteristic reaction, considering the fact that Valleriite detested injuries of any kind that marred her body.

Though she was tempted to linger there and rest a few moments longer, she knew that she couldn't afford the risk. It would only take Castor a few seconds to find her. Her heels dug into the ground, as she leapt onto the large tree before her.

Concealed within the tree's leaves, she took on a defensive stance, awaiting the moment the senshi would run directly below.
