Grading papers was absolute monotony.

Furthermore, grading papers was absolute monotony when Suri knew that she could shift to Zircon, leap from the second story window of the science building, and run off into the early evening, jumping across rooftops and feeling more alive than she had ever thought possible. Compared to her short experience of being a Negaverse Lieutenant, her normal life felt lackluster in comparison, and certainly nothing was more mundane than the inside of a classroom.

The woman muttered to herself, shuffling the graded pile of labs on her desk. She needed a break. She deserved a break.

With a forceful shove, Suri stood from her desk, taking a moment to exhale and adjust her hair accordingly. Yes. A break would be rather lovely, considering that classes had ended over two hours ago and she was still grading papers, always grading papers. The paper trail never ended with these children, and it made Suri burn to read their mistakes on every little page. If not for her job being at stake, she would almost consider trying to remove a starseed from one of the chatty brats.

Shaking her head, Suri left her classroom, turning off the light and locking the room quietly, the only sound in the halls being the clacking noise of her bootheels echoed against the light blue Crystal tile. The teacher's lounge was on the first floor, and a pretty good walk at that, but one of the advantages of working for a private school was that it had a ready supply of snacks available to the staff. And coffee. Suri internally beamed at the thought of getting more caffeine into her system. Without becoming Zircon, she'd need the boost to get through her day.

So this was the infamous Crystal Academy, hm? Varete thought to herself. as she took a leisurely stroll among the grounds of Crystal Academy.

Weary of her old ditch-and-run school routine, she had decided to come somewhere else for fun instead- Mainly, Crystal Academy. Dressed in a blue Crystal Academy uniform (some girl would have probably found her closet to be ransacked about now, minus one uniform), Varete had snuck into the school without a problem. Hell, as long as she acted the part, both the staff and students remained oblivious to her little charade.

Arms clasped behind her back, she took her time in admiring the sights; the grounds, the facilities, the classes, the cafeteria, whatever the usual touristy activities was.

Not.

In reality, she had just been curious to see what this famous all-girl's school was like. While she detested snooty private schools like these, her curiosity had gotten the better of her. And she had only one thing to say- The rumors at Meadowview were grossly over-exaggerated.

Oh, well. Not to say that she didn't have any fun, while she was here.

Using her fingers to count them off, "Brats, brats, and more brats." Varete smirked, as she listed number of girls she had 'met' today, within the academy. If one called bullying a form of introduction of course. All it took was a little mockery, and they broke down crying to their mommy or daddy, threatening to bring down her parent's company. Not that she cared of course. Her parents didn't even own a company!

Stupid stupid girls, she murmured as she laughed to herself. Her laughter rang loud among the silent halls of Crystal Academy.

Laughter? That was interesting.

The Crystal girls were not permitted in the main academic buildings after hours with the exception of those who were given exemptions for tutoring or other such activities. It was a policy that Suri took great relief in, as it gave her some much needed quiet time to herself, to think and grade papers. The fact that someone was laughing further down the hall was a taint to her peace, almost sacreligious to Suri's daily ritual, and especially during her break it was something that she simply would not have.

There was a certain sense of justice that beamed through Suri as she rounded a corner and spied the delinquent child, whom she did not personally recognize but acknowledged as just another of the general Crystal populace. She made eye contact from about fifteen feet away and stopped, crossing her arms in disapproval. "Where are you supposed to be?" asked Suri in a threatening, condescending tone. To the woman's knowledge, the only tutoring going on that day was English, which was in another hall entirely. If the girl was wandering, she'd most certainly get her ID tagged and reported, possibly incuring some detention time. And if she didn't have her ID...well. God help the child that disturbed Suri's quiet time and didn't have her ID.

Left, or right?

Okay, this confirmed it; she was officially lost. She had realized this a few hallways back, but had refused to admit it. Instead, she continued to roam the empty hallways at random, convinced that there had to have been an exit somewhere. No longer amused, she groaned in exasperation.

What is this school supposed to be, a maze?!

She supposed that she could ask someone for directions.. or save herself the embarrassment and escape from a different exit. Taking a peek at the corridor of another hallway, "Maybe there's a windo-" Her thoughts were quickly interrupted by the voice of another. Whirling around, she caught sight of another girl nearby. A student? No, she looked a tad too old to be attending high school. A teacher assistant maybe?

"Where are you supposed to be?" She said in a stern tone, as she crossed her arms in disapproval.

That proved it; she was most definitely a teacher, all right. "At school?" Varete suggested with an innocent smile, as she greeted the teacher with a friendly wave.

Sarcasm: now this, this was a challenge. Suri took several steps closer to the girl, assessing her through narrow eyes. Was she a freshman? She had to be, the way she was acting. Either way, Suri would have no qualms with snatching the girl up and escorting her right down to the office, where she could fill out a disciplinary report. The main office had better coffee machines, anyway. This was turning out to be a better break than expected.

"Well, unfortunately, classes have ended, so you're not allowed to be in this part of the facility without a pass." She noted that the girl was not wearing her lanyard, but then again, few girls ever did because it was easier to carry around a wallet in their designer purses. "I'm going to need to see your ID, Miss." That was one aspect of being part of the faculty that Suri positively loathed. No matter what, students were to be referred to with 'Miss' or some other honorific, as if their heads weren't inflated enough. Suri never remembered acting so self-entitled when she was growing up, but she supposed that times had changed, and policy was still policy. It didn't matter, though: proper honorifics or not, this girl was going to be disciplined, and maybe then the child would learn her place.

Matching the teacher's frown with a grin of her own, Varete continued to smile at the teacher in the same cheerful fashion as before. Hands clasped behind her back, she rocked back and forth on her heels, as she endured the woman's stern reprimands.

"Oh really?" She said, feigning a look of surprise. Ah, that would explain the desertation, wouldn't it? She noticed, taking a discreet glance at the hallways around her.

Unfortunately, before she had a chance to make up some sort of excuse, the teacher moved on to the subject of passes, and identification.

"...ID?" She thought to herself, coming to a utter blank. She hadn't taken her identification into consideration.. but then again, she hadn't expected Suri Ellis either. Pretending to rummage through her bag, she shot the teacher an apolegetic glance.

Taking the coward's way out, she offered the poor man's excuse out. "Oops, I guess I forgot mine." She said, with a sheepish look.

Whether or not the girl was aware of her actions, she was most certainly feeding Suri's vindictive tendencies. No ID? That was perfect, icing on the cake. After the bland day she'd been having, the science teacher imagined it would be fun to swing down the disciplinary hammer on someone, to ensure that no one caught to squeak through the cracks of the system without some sort of reprimand. No. Suri had been following her rules and regulations as an instructor all day, and she wasn't about to let some snot-nosed brat get away with sneaking around campus without her ID.

Without even suppressing the smirk on her normally pouty lips, Suri stepped forward, within arms reach of the girl.

"Well, then, I'll have to escort you to the office to fill out a report. It's absolutely essential for every student to have their ID at all times on campus." She gave the girl a smug look that dared her to run.

Wow, this girl really needs to get a life. Val whistled, noting the smirk on the teacher's face at the chance to reprimand one of her students.

It was obvious that the teacher was enjoying her authority status, inflicting punishment on poor students- which Varete would strongly protest that teachers not take out their frustration on others. As 'students' learning from their examples, this was poor behavior indeed. Luckily, Varete could advise her on a thing or two, that would handily solve the problem. Unfortunately, it wasn't meant for innocent ears, and she doubted the Ms. Ellis would take it as 'helpful' advice.

At this point, her 'helpful advice' might also serve the teacher to hasten the trip to the principal's office, all the more sooner.

Not that she planned to go obediently of course. Taking a step back, she maneuvered her way smoothly out of the teacher's grasp toward the window nearby. Resting her back against the window, she observed the teacher with an amused expression, her lips curved into a smile; a strange expression to wear when in trouble.

Noting the teacher's daring glance, she replied back with a challenge of her own.

"Escort me, if you can." She announced breezily, before jumped out the window, exiting onto the font lawns outside.

Serah had heard the conversation outside-- when making up yet another assignment for a class she had missed. It was art class, actually, the assignment was a nature drawing. The convenient spot next to a window when the incident happened.

"Escort me, if you can."

That rebellious tone with a cup of flippancy.. Ears perked forward, Serah was surprised to hear an old voice-- a familiar voice that definitely did not belong to this school. Her pink head watched from a side of the window, the scene playing out before her. It probably wasn't discreet if you were looking through the window, the contrast of pink tones against garden tones-- Well, thankfully, none of them were looking this way.

She would have sighed at this point. Really, Val, really? Sassing a teacher made far more trouble than it was worth-- especially running! HOSHIT, she was running?! Especially from Miss Suri, the teacher that Serah liked to think of as a extremely sour lemon. The stupidest move ever-- Count on Varete to pull it. It would have been much better to send the teacher to the ground with a good kick and walk smoothly out. It would have been a facepalm moment if she even had time to facepalm.

"Psst. Varete, this way!" What Varete termed as her 'elf friend' pointed hastily to a hallway down to the dorms, the pink-haired crystal girl tilted her head left to the direction of her dormroom. Miss Lemon could run fast-- If only Varete had run into the older teachers instead, they couldn't catch up as fast.

Suri had expected some resistance, certainly. Maybe even some name-calling, with how entitled most of the Crystal girls felt. Honestly, it was as if there was no such thing as a healthy respect for authority. But jumping out of a window? Really? Now this was something that Suri considered as taking it a bit too far.

"H-hey! That is beyond against school regulations, Missy!" Perhaps Suri should have been concerned for the child's safety, but the only thing that clouded her mind as she rushed to the window was a feeling of utter rage at having been ousted by a little blonde brat. Her eyes scanned the courtyard only for a moment, but it seemed that wherever the girl had fallen, she had already made it to some sort of cover.

Still, the girl couldn't have run far.

Suri bolted for the stairs, slamming open the door into the main grounds and jogging on to the green, searching the area for any sight of the delinquent. From where she stood, the pissy teacher failed to see one of her pupils watching from the window, and even if she did notice, it certainly was the furthest thing from her mind. She wanted the prissy little runaway detained, and she wanted it done now.

Okay, so she had no absolutely no idea where to go next. Unlike Meadowview, Crystal Academy had (what it seemed to be) a million buildings. The school, the dorms, the church, the gym, the stables.. and countless others. Damn it, why did Crystal Academy have to be so confusing? Slowing down to a halt, her gaze traveled over the row of buildings in hopes of finding an exit. Feeling exasperated, she knew that there had to have been an exit somewhere.

Right?

Just when she had about to give up hope, a familiar voice called out to her from behind a window. "Psst. Varete, this way!" said a pink-haired girl, whom Varete knew well. Serah, a blessing in disguise. Unfortunately with Ms. Ellis fast approaching, there were no time for greetings.

"Thanks." She called out, with a wink toward Serah. "I owe you one." And with that, she disappeared into the dorms.
PostPosted: Sun May 23, 2010 10:30 pm

Damn right Val owed her one. But Serah saw this opportunity to scare off her pesky science teacher. She wasn't eager to take the teacher's starseed, even if the teacher rightfully deserved so. But Serah wasn't adverse to teaching Ms.Suri a lesson of her own with a starseed scare. Taking out her starseed should suffice-- if it came down to it, a teacher's starseed wasn't all that bad.

She ducked behind a wall, phasing into the familiar feeling of darkness that made Serandite. Truthfully, it was risky to transform at a school but most of the other students and teachers were out. if there was anyone to spot her, she could probably knock them out with a swift hit to the neck.

It was a few minutes later that Serandite stood behind a pillar, her eyes landing on the furious teacher on the green lawn, only a few feet away from her. A gloved hand lunged forward towards Suri's back, her actions only as speedy as a high school girl's could be.

Suri was livid, which on the anger scale was a step above pissed and just shy of red-faced screaming. She was not about to allow such insubordination on her campus! If word got around that some girl had just traipsed away from the science teacher, well, there would be chaos! She would have no authority, all rights of such stripped from her by the cruel words of rumor! Ms. Ellis had little enough control in her own classroom as it was, what with the special allowances she had to make for Destiny City's special princesses, and she was not about to yield any more easily.

She thought she could hear the clacking sound of a pair of penny loafers running down by the art building, but before she could dash off in pursuit, she found herself frozen by a sudden pang of hesitation, as if she should be remembering that she'd left one of the bunsen burners lit. There was something more important, she could feel it, but despite the familiarity of the sensation there was still something she couldn't recall...

It was pure chance that Suri had subconsciously caught the sounds of Serandite's approach, and just as she felt the brush of a gloved hand on her back she whirled, stumbling to the ground in the process. She looked up, wide-eyed, at the Negaverse officer with her outstretched hand, and though she didn't quite understand what the Captain had been about to do, she did understand that she was in the presence of a superior officer, one that she'd seen several times in meetings.

"...Captain," she said breathlessly, not even thinking to shift to Zircon. In her flustered state, it didn't even occur to her that she was still 'in danger'.
PostPosted: Mon Jun 07, 2010 1:46 pm

"Oh. You know my rank? I dont believe that I've met you before-- Oh well." Serandite shrugged, assuming that Suri had either run into another negaverse captain or someone who had informed her of them. Serandite withdrew her hand only the slightest bit. It was a shame that Miss Suri had picked up so fast-- a surprise to Serandite. She didn't expect the teacher to have such fast reflexes.

(She was curious.)

A sly smile curved her lips as she stared down at the wide-eyed shocked teacher, a change from the confident and authoritative exterior that Miss Suri usually gave. Oppositely, Serah's confident negaverse demeanor was vastly different from her low status as a procrastinating student. "Are we doing this the easy way.. or the hard way? Just to inform you, I'm adverse to neither." Serandite said sweetly, kneeling down, pointing to Suri's chest, indicating her starseed.

Suri was dumbfounded. Why was the Captain on her campus? Was there some sort of training activity going on that she wasn't aware of? Despite a part of herself nagging that she shouldn't be getting grass stains on her lab coat, she found herself glued in place, her mind working a mile a minute in a vain effort to assess the current situation. What was going on? Why had she not been informed? She had her cell phone on her, there was no reason for her not to be in the know--

And then Serandite motioned to her chest.

Suri knew that the primary objective was to collect starseeds. She knew that people didn't get promoted without just cause, which meant that Serandite had probably collected her fair share of them. And, after a moment's careful deduction, she realized that there would be no reason for the captain to be even remotely aware of her civilian identity. After all, she had only been in the Negaverse for so long, and she wasn't exactly the most 'meet n' greet' type person. Therefore, there would be no reason for herself to not be a target.

Had Suri been gifted with a better sense of humor, she might have laughed at the whole situation. As it was, she simply stared at the captain, wondering how she was going to reveal herself without shifting in public. "I think there's been some sort of misunderstanding," began the woman softly and slowly.
