see, i have this guy friend/ex bf, and our relationship has been a disaster--we tried to stay friends, then he lost respect for me, so we stopped talking for months. it wasn't until recently that we even started talking to eachother again. last week, we were texting eachother. i recently got a job, and had invited one of my best friends to help me blow my first paycheck. next thing i knew, said guy and my two other best friends had invited themselves to my outting--he went so far as to ask me for a specific item. while texting him, i remarked that since so many people were comming now, it didn't feel as fun as i wanted it to be. aparently after i said that, he texted one of the two friends that had invited herself, angry that "i wasn't going to deliver on my word for once in my life." after being forwarded his texts from my friend, i asked him outright if he thought i was selfish.

he called me a selfish, ungrateful b***h who never thanked her friends for buying her stuff enough, and that the times that i had thanked them didn't amount to anything.

at that point i decided to just not talk to him anymore, since he seems to think so low of me--btw, my three best friends that have known me for a lot longer disagreed with him.

is not talking to him anymore overreacting?

i don't think so. it sounds like he's trying to come up with excuses to justify that newfound lack of respect you mentioned. if your friends were honestly disagreeing, then he is just being rude and doesn't really deserve you being his friend.

i asked my friends for their honest opinion, and they're the type to give it.

then i'd have to say that he is exaggerating and just being a jerk. maybe he just needs time away from you or maybe he's not worth being a friend. either way, i'd say that limitting conversation with him sounds best.

I agree with the others when they've said it was the right thing to do. He seems like a jerk unworthy of your kindness.
Maybe in ten or twenty years -Depending on your age- you might find him again on facebook or something and find he's grown up a lot and is in need of a familiar face from the past. I'm thinking thirty would be an appropriet age to do this.

Let me put this simply. It is NOT complicated. This guy is just being a jerk.
If you don't want to have anything to do with him fine he's a schmuck. Just don't let it bother you. Even tiny insignificant remarks can turn into nasty grudges, I can vouch for that.
