Stega had woken up from a deep deep sleep only a few minutes ago, and now her systems were just waking up as she groggily looked around at what was going to greet her today. The sun wasn't over the horizon yet, but she expected the sky to be an array of pinks and oranges in only a few minutes. This was a time of transition on the island. All those who were awake at night were going to bed, and all those awake in the day were just getting up. A slight russle filled hte area around her but Stega was not roused to become frightened yet, she was still too tired. There'd been a storm the night before and she, being terrified of storms, stayed up most of the night until her body just sort of shut down and she went to sleep.
Stretching her body out, she gave one last yawn before getting out of the little hole she'd dug for a place to sleep the night before. If she lived in a burrow with other rats, she wouldn't have to worry about finding a safe place to sleep every night because she would already have a room to go to. If only if only.....Shaking her head, she dismissed the depressing thoughts that overcame her out of her head. Sighing, Stega decided to go in search of food. Before doing so, she decided to give herself a little bath so that dirt didn't get in between her spike plates and rub up against them. After a bit of cleaning, she felt confident to go and look around.
After some searching, she'd come across a bushel of raspberries and blueberries. Excited that her first treat of the morning was going to be so juicy and sweet, she decided to try and make a little basket to hold some more in for later. Grabbing some grasses and twigs, she made a skeleton out of the twigs and weaved the grasses in and out of the skeleton. Only a few minutes later did she have a small basket. Adding a handle, she was pleased at her handy work. Being a rat with very flexible hands is nice, she thought, giggling. Grabbing some berries of both kinds, she ate some and put some in the basket. Soon enough, her basket was full to almost the top with raspberries and blueberries. If she happened to come across anymore goodies, she'd just add them to her stash.
Walking over to where she knew a stream was, she put the basket down and washed herself again with water, making her fur shine and her plates glisten. Never had she met another rat that had plates like her. Hopefully she would one day, or a rat that wouldn't judge her for being different. Sighing, she got a little to drink and went on her way. Little did she know, there was going to be another storm passing through today, and she wasn't nearly prepared to go find another place to hide. Thoughts of being in a rat clan crossed her mind again and her good mood was slowly slipping into a sad and alone mood. Trying to keep her spirits up, she went back to the creek and put her basket down again on the edge. After testing the cool water with her foot, she waded in and cooled off just as the sun made it almost half way over the horizon.

Diendal shook, sending water droplets flying everywhere, he had not been fortunate enough to find shelter during the last night's storm and was soaked and exhausted. Not to mention that he probably looked half dead. Feeling very waterlogged, thirsty, and rumbly in the hunger area, he crawled slowly toward the river and began to slowly lap up some of the clean fresh water.
Yawning, he looked around through half closed eyes. Blinking wearily he wondered why the river here was so spiky, but the thought slipped away from him just as quickly as it had come. Who was he to judge the water? The water probably thought he looked very odd too.
Ever so slowly, Diendal crept toward the base of a nearby tree and began to nibble on the nearest green plant, laying as he did so. Chewing almost took away the last of his energy and it was hard to keep awake. He did though, knowing how unsafe it would be to sleep in the open. Yawning around a mouthful of greens, he wondered where he could find to sleep.

(I decided that I wanted Stega to be the caretaker and adopted mommy for my new rat, Prez)
After finishing her bath, Stega decided to climb out of the water and dry off in the now risen sun. Sure, it wasn't beating down like it would be in a few hours, but she wasn't going to dry off in the middle of a creek, that was for sure. Hopping out, she shook off, the water flying in all sorts of directions. Grabbing a blueberry, she munched on it while sitting under a big fern. Hearing a whimpering sound from somewhere else, Stega's ears perked up. Walking around for a few minutes, a patch of yellow caught her eyes. Lifting the leaf the object was under, she found a baby rat curled up in a ball, crying. The motherly instinct inside her ignited like a flame as she looked down at the little baby. Picking it up in her paws, she held the little creature close to her, warming it up against her body. "Shh little one, you'll be alright. Did you lose your mom?" Hearing the reassuring voice, the baby girl stopped crying and was nestled in Stega's fur. Nodding, her eyes welled up in tears again and Stega wiped the tears away, nuzzling the baby on the top of the head. "Well I'll take care of you then." The little one seemed to be content with that as it snuggled up against her. Bringing it over to her basket, she fed it some berries.
Together, they both ate the rest of the basket, which was alright. Seeing that the baby was so small, she put some grasses in the basket and set the baby inside, where it promptly fell asleep. Smiling at her, she picked up the basket and gently walked with it. Turning to another part of the creek, she caught eyes with a green rat with silver swirls on him. Tilting her head to the side, she wasn't sure if he was dangerous or not, and with her newly acquired precious cargo, she didn't want to take chances. Staying very still, she contemplated on what to do.

Diendal could smell other rats, that was for sure, but that wasn't enough for him to waste the dregs of his energy looking for them. Slowly, painstakingly, he began to dig a small hole, planning to burrow among the tree roots if he could. It seemed a better idea than getting lost in the forest alone.
Dirt clung to his damp fur and weighed him down as he burrowed slowly. Sneezing twice, he kept at it, determined to have a safe place to rest. Awkwardly, he looked over his shoulder to make sure nobody was sneaking up on him.

Stega knew that if this male was dangerous, she'd be able to fend him off with her plates and spikes. Though she was a small rat, her bodily weapons helped her stay out of trouble. Thankfully she hadn't run into any larger animals yet. Making sure Prez, the little baby rat, was situated in the basket, Stega walked up to the rat and peeped, "Do you need help?" Making sure to be on guard just in case he made any sudden movements, Stega waited for an answer from this rat. He seemed very tired, and alone, like she was, other than her newly acquired baby which was in the basket.

(Sorry about the late reply, been having a series of bad storms and he internet hasn't been friendly)
"I've got to get shelter before the storm returns, you should too" he said wearily, glancing at the female rat and her small babe inside the basket. "Especially with that little one, you wouldn't want your baby to get sick"
Coughing once, exhausted, he lay still for a moment, resting after that long speech. After he felt well enough to move again, and he did so slowly so as not to disturb the female and her babe, he began to dig once more, slowly.
