It was another bleak day. The sky was overcast and shadows littered the ground. It was the perfect sort of day for Paradox to be out and about. He wasn't accustomed to running about in broad daylight like some sort of pearlescent beacon. No...the shadows was where he felt most comfortable, a trait handed down from his father. For the longest time, Paradox has viewed his father as weak for his gentleness and virtue, but...Paradox was beginning to wonder if it truly was weakness that his father displayed. After all, Cobalt was happy. That wasn't something Paradox could honestly say about himself. He wished he could blame society, that he could say that happiness was a luxury given to only those without tormented blood. But Cobalt and Airlia were his parents. They had just as many demons as he did...and still they were happy together, pleased with the way their life had turned out.
Paradox sighed as he stepped out of the protective fringes of his forest. He hadn't ventured this way in over a year. A wry smile tugged at his lips. He had become something of a hermit after all, with the way he had holed himself up. The pariah of his family. But Mei had shown him that he didn't have to live that way. If she would accept him truly, even though he lied to her and used her...if she had enough goodness in her to see the goodness in him, then maybe, just maybe, others could do the same. Of course, if they didn't, he could just run them off. He hadn't lost his edge, oh no. He could still be the big, bad Kalona if he chose. It was just that he wasn't sure if he wanted to be that way any longer. If he could find acceptance, wouldn't that be better than living life alone?

Lior was finding herself to be a lot like her mother now that she'd grown, she hated to stay in one place for too long, and she loved to discover new places. Edel had been quite the adventurer when she was young, and Lior decided she might as well have some adventure of her own. She knew that meant leaving her delicate brother to take care of himself, but now that he'd grown he was stronger too, even if just a bit odd. She'd go back home one day, but she wanted to learn about the rest of the world first, so she could have a fulfilling life like her mother's.
She didn't expect one of her first days out to be so dreary. Most other would look at her and assume she liked dark, shadowy days, but she much preferred the sun then the clouds. Just because she had crazy, mutant genes didn't mean she was that cold-hearted. Her mother had raised her well, and she knew how to be polite, but she also chose who, and who not, to be polite to. And, she valued herself more then anyone, other then her family, but that didn't make her mean or nasty, just, maybe, a bit stuck-up. In a way it was her best defense, she didn't make friends easily, because sh put others through so many tests of their trustworthiness that they usually got fed up with her.
She found a nice little area in the forest to gaze, and think about which direction she would go next. She had no idea she was just outside someone's territory, and even if she did know she probably wouldn't care. Her little flutter wings buzzed constantly as she reach down to gnaw on the grass, while her larger wings stay motionless at her side.

Paradox hesitated at the borders of his lands. It almost felt wrong to abandon them this way. After all, some miscreant might decide to take up residence, and he really didn't feel like having to run someone out of his home upon his return. If he returned. But his heart had decided, or been decided for him, that he needed to know. So he took the first few shaky steps out of his forest, turning his head to scan for anyone who might be around.
He wouldn't have seen the mare at all if she hadn't chosen that moment to snatch at the grass by her hooves. She was like a patch of bluish shadow, so reminiscent of his sister's colors that Paradox's breath caught in his throat. But it wasn't Sapphire who grazed by his forest. This mare was definitely different, her wings more similar to his own than his sister's feathery ones. The design of her wings nearly mirrored his, save for the delicate, insect-like fronds she bore as well. He possessed nothing of the sort, and he was mesmerized by the way they fluttered gently, as if they had a mind of their own.
It dawned on him, slowly but surely. She was a half-breed, just like him. Sure, the mix was different, but she too had mutant blood, blood no race would recognize as their own. A thousand questions flooded to his tongue. The many things he wanted to ask, about her, about the world... But perhaps she too was looking for answers to the same questions he would ask. After all...if he didn't have the answers, why would she?
He decided one thing. She was the first mixed blood he had seen who shared traits similar to his own. If he didn't speak with her, he would never forgive himself. And so he approached her, wondering if she would run like all the others. But of course she could never know of the miserably weak emotions harboring in his heart. Paradox could do many things, but he would not betray his blood by becoming a weakling like his father.
"What brings someone like you into my forest?" he asked jauntily, a wry glint in his eyes. She was a puzzle to him, something to be figured out. And if she didn't run, perhaps they could roam together. Not as friends, exactly, because Paradox knew that a monster such as he couldn't have friends, but perhaps acquaintances or partners. Two misfits, not judging each other on the mix of their blood or the leather of their wings. It was a thrilling thought.

Lior cursed to wandering mind when she suddenly heard a voice, her first reaction was obviously defensive. Her wings spread out on either side and she glared at the other stallion. He didn't seem to startled by her reaction, and she realized they had a lot in common, mutant wise. Her expression slowly softened as she stared at him in wonder, she'd never actually met anyone with wings like a kalona before, after all she'd never met her father. This stallion before her was the first, and he was mutant too! There was no way she could pass up this chance.
So she straightened up, and put on a light smirk. "Well, I'm just trying to live up to some person expectations." She wanted to be just like her mother, without the caring for everyone else part. She gave him another once-over, to make sure her mind hadn't been tricking her again. He had a long mane a tail, which oddly reminded her of her brother, an large wings that reminded her of her own, although she had her mother's addition of dragonfly wings. He had dark blue eyes, that look like they'd shine in the dark, and was just all around interesting.
"I never thought I'd meet someone else like me. I knew there had to be other's out there, heck, my father could have a ton of other kids I don't know about, but I didn't expect to run into someone so soon. It's um...nice to meet you a suppose! My name's Lior~" She wasn't sure exactly what this might become, but maybe they could be friends? Just because they were both a little scary, intimidating, didn't mean they couldn't be nice every now and then. She never had a friend quite like him before, and most of them she had forced to be her friend when she was younger.

Paradox watched her as he listened to her speak. She was young yet it seemed, as she expressed herself with the attitude of one who had just set out in the world. She was beautiful, but he reckoned she didn't realize it. Pity her beauty was offset by wings of darkness...wings that many others would see and cringe, for fear of the power that came with a Kalona's genes. But Paradox didn't pity her. Fear was nothing to shirk from. Properly used, fear could be a powerful tool. He would know, having frightened others out of his forest for over a year now. But this mare...she still seemed innocent somehow. She seemed more friendly than not...as if the genes apparently inherited from her father were not the dominant force of her personality. Paradox took grim note that her wings were from her father, like his were from his father. Oh, the bane of wayward fathers...and the leathery curses their offspring were forced to bear.
"You may call me Paradox," he said, his eyebrow raised ever so slightly in amusement. "It is interesting to meet you, Lior. Like you, I've never met another with a set of wings so similar to my own..." He paused, peering at her intently. "A word of advice, though. You can live up to whoever's expectations that you choose, but it's been my experience that it isn't exactly a fulfilling lifestyle. But maybe I'm not the best one to speak," he admitted as he thought of his life." His way of life included blood and death and fear...as opposed to his father's which lacked all of those.
"You didn't tell me, though," he said, grinning, "what you're doing here. Why you are alone, nosing at the fringe of what, for all intensive purposes, appears to be a dark, spooky wood of questionable origin. I'm sure it's a thrilling story, and I for one, am curious to hear it."
