Y'know, revamping the guild and doing away with all that 'srsbsns pseudo-power trip' nonsense would probably draw members in. Metal's not the end-all, be-all of music (and as a matter of fact is quite inferior to genres like Prog Rock and Jazz), so get some
authentic and intelligent musical discussion in here and stop encouraging shitty music taste by being METAL METAL METAL METAL all the time. People who listen to and discuss nothing but Metal are factually boring.
Oh, and taken from your Nu-Metal discussion, as an example of misinformation that needs to be fixed:

This comes from facts passed on either by word of mouth and through forums and certain websites, because no other forms of media know their face from their a** when it comes to music. This should become apparent when one sees someone on T.V. comparing Slipknot to Black Sabbath. It has nothing to do with opinion. Genres are pure 100% fact which are determined by key characteristics depending on the sub-genre or genre.
Common misconception. Genres are fact once they're
established, but they come about by subjective means. A musical genre can't really have a defined sound if it hasn't been established yet, now can it?

Many of the genres you listed are non existant. See the Metal Recomendation thread for a complete list of known genres and bands which fall under them. The key characteristics of Nu-Metal include, but are not limited to: Heavy repitition, hip-hop influence, and angst lyrics. Nu-Metal contains the word 'metal' simply because of the mass media and their throwing the word around. It was labled "Nu-Metal"
because Nu means no in Romanian[sp?].
Uh...no? It was labeled 'Nu' because 'Nu' stands for 'New Urbanized,' which was supposed to be a heavily watered-down form of 'Metal' that ended up not being Metal in the first place.

Hence the name Nu-Salt of the salt-substitute intended for those who cannot consume high levels of sodium. To back up Kitti's analogy, it is not salt, although it is simular because the chemical composition is different than that of actual salt. Hence, it is not salt, just as Nu-Metal is not metal. Do you see the Metaphor? If not, it is quite simple. Nu-Metal is Alternative Rock with heavy Metal influences such as heavy dissortion, harsh vocals, and dark themes.
Nu-Metal isn't Alternative Rock. Not even ******** close.
As a matter of fact,
here, educate yourself.Quote:
However, it is not metal because it lacks complexity in instrumentals. Contrary to popular belief, metal is not determined by how "herdcurr" a band is.
By that logic then, Black Metal would be 'not Metal' because it's one of the most technically devoid genres out there. Same with Doom Metal. Hell, Om would be 'not Metal' because they don't have lead OR rhythm guitar, just drums and bass.

It is determined almost completely by complexity in intrumentals with normally includes guitar solos.
Uh...once again, no. Not even close. Obviously you're playing with outdated information, either that or that whole 'power trip' thing or the 'dead guild' thing caused the people to not bother pointing that stuff out. I'm not even going to bother with the rest of it because it's so insufferably wrong it makes my eyes hurt just reading it.
And lolol, guitar solos were 'complex' long before Metal even existed. See: Blues, Jazz, Django Reinhardt who pretty much INVENTED soloing etc. etc. etc.

I'd like to also state that Hair Metal/Glam Metal, are nothing more than rock and will also not be tolerated. Think of them as the Nu-Metal of the eighties.
No. Just...no. Granted SOME 'Hair Metal' was truly Hard Rock, others were very clearly and factually Trad. Heavy Metal. I've seen Dio mentioned on 'Hair Metal' comps, yet he's not Hard Rock now is he?
Just some food for thought, and maybe to get you to actually bring this guild up to date. Considering it's the 'original' I figured it should be held to a much higher standard and be as up-to-date as possible.
